Of all the technology in 40K, the Phalanx epitomises the great contradiction. It's systems are failing because no one knows how to repair them, yet the Mechanicus never deletes data. These two statements cannot be true unless the Mechanicus is purposefully holding out on the Imperium, allowing it to die a slow death. If they never delete data then the records of how to fix its systems exist and one has but to read the tech manual to know how to fix them.
But the Phalanx predates the Mechanicum. It is from the Dark Age of Technology, and in truth probably a one of a kind piece of wonder from that age. We still don't know the full capacity of the Phalanx and it's unknown weapons systems.
