Misspelling and not capitalising Emperor. That's a blamming.
I laughed my ass of when I first saw the Phalanx on your stream. This game perfectly catches 40k in all it's glory. Completely over top, to the point where it get's rediculous. And they manage to deliver that rediculousness in a utterly serious and bombastic manner, together with a hint of irony that makes it all the more awesome.
El Bastardo I have a question, what is ridiculous about 40k? I never really understood when people say it’s ridiculous when the lore gives perfectly reasonable explanations for the things that exist in universe.
@@severanguardsman9428 in other sci-fi universes, several hundred turbo laser batteries is seen as apocalyptic. In 40k, the gun batteries on the side fire shells the size of small apartment buildings through gun barrels the size of the empire state building at a fraction of the speed of light. In other universes a ship killing torpedo is the size of a fridge, in 40k a sufficient sized torpedo carried by a void borne torpedo bomber is 2km long. In a certain movie an alien mothership the size of Australia was practically the end of Earth as they know it, in 40k something like that is just one of many weapon platforms surrounding Earth (Terra) "studded with gap maw'ed graviton world enders each enough to obliterate an entire fleet in a single shot".
Heinrich Dethahal but I don’t see how that is ridiculous just because it is bigger. It just shows how dangerous the universe is that it requires technology of that size/firepower just to survive.
@@Autechltd I don't mean rediculous in a bad manner. Just look at the Phalanx. It's a giant blob of heavily armed and armored space cathedral, capable of traveling through mega hell. No person in their right mind would build such a thing. Likewise the imperiale warships. They have armored prows for ramming. In space, where mass drivers, torpedos and directed energy weapons are a thing. Or think about Trazyn, a millions of years old, vaguely egyptian themed terminator with a trollish personality and a habit of stealing things that spark his interest. The planet Mars has a goddamn face because of the way it's buildings are arranged.
Look at it without the lens of immersion into the fandom and lore. It's rediculous, but in an awesome way. We sometimes tend to forget that 40k is not only science fantasy, but also satirical in nature. And I love it for that.
@@Cognitohazzard well you also pretty much summed up how the Tau felt when they heard of an Imperial Titan for the first time.

This is a 40K space battle as it should be, on the proper scale and believably of star empires like the imperium. Given the importance of Cadia, it's about time they showed there being more ships than there were at Coruscant.

Given how important the planet of Cadia was, I would have been dissapointed had the scene NOT looked like the opening scene of Revenge of the Sith except in 40K.
As for Tau, the Imperium has many times the military and resources to completely annihilate the Tau, even in their current state, were it not for the fact that the Imperium has a dozen other major threats pressing on it, heresy everywhere, and ludicrous levels of bureaucratic incompetence at every level of government, and also the relative slowness of warp travel across large portions of the Galaxy.
@@fadelsukoco3092 Tau is like the shark trying attack American US Navy ;) Like Monaco on World Map.
That's the scale of 40k. The Tau even though are beginning to have an empire are literally classed as a minor annoyance.
If the Imperium truly wanted the Tau gone, They would be extinct.
Mate the Tau are but a mere speck tolerated by the Imperium because they ain't a real threat. Heck the Imperium would rarely muster a counter push if the Tau decided to conquer a planet unless it was a Forge World. However if they insited on a large scale war, like the Damocles Campaign, the Tau would get completly overwhelmed by sheer Imperial numbers alone.
Am I only one that thought the phalanx was bigger?
@Nik Liwanag the thing is about the size of a moon if I recall
Yeah it's the size of a planetoid/moon but for the game I'd imagine it had to be scaled down
@Nik Liwanag roughly the size of the mothership in Independence day 2..
It is, they were never going to quite capture it's size however.
Just a few of it's descriptions:
"The Phalanx came from the trans-Neptunian gulf like a comet. She was the largest ship that had ever served mankind. Others had made warships that tried to rival her size: the Vengeful Spirit, the Furious Abyss and the Iron Blood. None, though, could match the flagship of the Imperial Fists."-'Praetorian of Dorn' by John French
"And larger than all of them, hanging above Terra like a second moon, was the Phalanx. In all the Imperium, there was no warship larger, or mightier. Even the Gloriana-class craft fell short of Rogal Dorn’s fortress flagship."-'Praetorian of Dorn' by John French
"Dorn oversaw the great reinforcement effort from his flagship and star-fortress the mighty 'Phalanx'. The size of a small moon it was forced to remain clear of Terra's shipping lanes for fear that it's great mass would exert a tidal pull on the lesser orbitals. Standing sentinel over the ongoing work of the defenses the star-fortress was a grand artifice of gold. Ramparts and towers. Cathedral like halls and acres of domes covered its flanks. Phalanx was not only the flagship of the VIIth Legion but also their home. With room for hundreds of thousands of warriors and support serviles in its habitat tiers."-'Garro: Burden of Duty' by James Swallow.
"Phalanx is the mobile battle station that serves as both the Imperial Fists’ home world and their foremost warship. In form and scale, it is nearer a planetoid than a conventional vessel; it is a mighty cathedral of war that dwarfs the largest Battle Barge, and wields the firepower of a formidable fleet."-'Sentinels of Terra'
"Of these war bastions of the stars, the greatest was the Phalanx. A pre-Imperial relic of vast size and unimaginable power, Rogal Dorn rebuilt the cold wreck, found orbiting Inwit, where it had drifted dead since the Dark Age of Technology, and presented it to the Emperor on their reuniting. Although ponderous and a difficult voyager int he Warp, this titanic star fortress was nevertheless a space-carried weapon whose firepower dwarfed entire attack fleets by comparison."-'The Horus Heresy Book 3: Extermination'
"The Phalanx watched the last few seconds of the starship's life unfold. The massive construct, the nomadic home of the Imperial Fists Legion, was more planetoid that it was space vessel."-'Flight of the Eisenstein' by James Swallow
"The Phalanx defied description. Ship was not a big enough word for the home of the Imperial Fists. Fortress made no allowance for its grace and ability to travel between the stars. It could be defined in several ways: as fortress-monastery, temple, relic, the single biggest warp-capable object in all the Imperium, a symbol of Imperial might, battle-fortress. But none adequately captured the reality in words. Human speech was too limited. Phalanx's mass blotted out the stars."-'The Beheading' by Guy Haley.
"Even before their division into Chapters, the Imperial Fists never laid claim to a single home world. Instead, they are a space-borne Chapter, and their home is an ancient and unique vessel called Phalanx. As large as a moon and capable of docking over a dozen cruisers, Phalanx is a marvel of the starshipwright’s craft that predates the Imperium."-'Deathwatch: Rites of Battle'
More Bigga, more Dakka!
I imagine abbadon saw the phalanx and decided "welp, its about time for me to get my boots on the ground".
hmmm....so they've changed the story a bit, lore-wise it was the blackstone fortress' hidden thrusters that activated and rammed the ship towards cadia, here it was pushed by multiple battleships, any reason for that?
Why not both?
