You got the cause wrong. The "teeth" you saw on the cassette carrier (around the pawls) is caused by the carrier being pushed into the teeth in the hub body. This is caused by a bad inner bearing on the cassette carrier. These chinese wheels are actually quite okay, but they come with bearings that are really, really bad. Make sure you always replace the bearings in the cassette carrier on a new wheelset like this.
Seems like the pawls don’t return to the outside position and therefore did not engage properly with the outside ring. Is the spring of the pawls too weak? Splines are fine. Especially in alu hubs you get this also on a normal mtb (non e-bike)
The spring is pinched in the grove due to the damage so no it is not engaging properly. Was it that way that caused it to fail? It's hard to say. Shifting under load at times probably did not help.
Shifting under load is torture for your chain plus cassette. But not for your hub. Huge power is. But normally it is pretty difficult to break your hub except for giving it no maintenance for years (and even that usually does not cause problems).
So it’s nothing to do with the number of pawls the wear on the freehub is due to the power of the ebike motor driving through a aluminium freehub and steel cassette. The wear in your video looks like the whole internals of the pawl engagement mechanism is from movement on the axle, there should be no marks on the pawl side. Zitto now do a 6 pawl EMTB specific hub with steel freehub body and stronger axle
Have very much enjoyed your channel. I bought one of the alley express mountain bikes 29 inch wheels. My son and I are currently building it up. When it came the rear derailer hanger was broken. I will message to get to from China but would like to get on with the build. Have you found a US source that was easier to get. You mentioned Kona in one of your videos but I can’t find it any hints would be grateful. My son really wants to go riding. Thanks again
@Lad Brooks The best option would be to reach out to Wheels Mfg. They make derailleur hangers for hundreds of different bikes and by filtering hangers by size, inside mount vs outside mount, and more you can find them on their site. Or just call them and send them a pic they will find it. wheelsmfg.com/derailleur-hangers/all-derailleur-hangers.html
Very good video! I've ridden a loaner by a friend for a while and it has these wheels, and now I'm kinda glad I'm getting my new bike tomorrow. Edit: forgot to say they squeak like shit tho
what do you ride? xc, trail, enduro? bikepark, local trails, street? a freind keeps reccomending them but i brush it off since he never breaks anything on his bike (always taking chicken lines and avoiding exposure)
@@xnirvanaXnevermindx me and my buddy's use hardtail bike and we rides on local XC and Downhill trail..sometime just did fun ride to find new trail for our next project. I'm not sponsored by this company, I only spoke based on my experience. It's been 4 month since I write my comment and as this moment the hub still working normally and I haven't service it yet..btw my weight was 79kg so you probably get the idea
@@ulquiorra7586 yeah, sounds pretty tame. I'm constantly breaking shit, every upgrade eventually revealing different weak points.. I always have at least 2 things I need to change or maintain. Urban Freeride is mostly what I do but when on trail I'm doing double blacks, basically asking for a flat or mechanical bc I want the most capable bike I can get
@@xnirvanaXnevermindx I'm not sure for urban freeride bro.. hopefully you can find a product that you need with reasonable price.. nowadays most of the parts was so damn expensive, in my case I need to spend twice the price for my wife bike cuz she really into XC after the lockdown... 😂
I mean I've met a lotta people who've used cheap hubs and it works fine.. Most of the time these hubs are exact copy of expensive hubs. Yeah I doubt if it can handle e bike cause these hubs weren't designed for e bikes in the first place
i defently want a long range distance and uphill climing TEST / Review, that for what i would buy me my bike :)) battery test, components durability etc. Real staff, thanks i am subcriber :)
When riding with something like those motors it better to disable freehubs altogether. But even then some of that chenese alu shit won't survive with powerful controller
Your diagnosis is wrong the hub is slipping because the springs are not engageing the pauls simple , alloy freehub bodies are just dumb . Not really any true info in your review sorry i see your trying but not technical minded enough those hub looks like it would be fine if the pauls springs were replaced cleaned up with light grease .
Unfortunately if you pay lot in many cases it's similar. And hg is never was alllsed to be aluminum yet even dumbasses as dt swiss make it alu not talking about chenese
1:15 , no worries at all since Industry Nine hub's do come off like that as well

The seller is sending me a new hub free of charge.

Thanks for the video, good content! Think I will go with a DT swiss wheelset for my e-bike project :)
Just pick up higher end stuff for hubs.., even lower cost shimano mt400 hubs are really good
You should explain if the hub of another brand can be installed on this wheel. 👍
It can be, but at this price point (unless you know how to do that yourself) it’s almost not worth it for most.
What model your hub sir..nice contain new supporter
The old hub from aliexpress is not branded. The new wheels from Amazon are novatec.

How did the front wheel hold up?
Tried ARC brand.. I've been torturing the hub for several months now but surprisingly it can handle a lot of abuse considering the price tag..:)
I’ll give them a look.

How did you open the freehub?
no need, it is free, jus pull
What do you expect from adding a motor to a bike, seriously. Ebikes?

That cassette really hasn't done many trail miles at all and it's dead already. High tech component go cheap and you'll get what you deserve.
