- In this demonstration, Aaron will apply Dixie Belle Van Dyke Brown Glaze to achieve an antique finish on a chalk-painted pair of contemporary nightstands. The two nightstands were painted with two coats of Drop Cloth Dixie Belle chalk paint color. With a misting bottle and a damp rag, the glaze was added and wiped away to leave a subtle shaded antique look.

Just "discovered" you. Really appreciate your work and enjoy your videos!
That's so great to hear!
Love the glaze over the drop cloth. It really gives it an antique finish which I really like. Thanks Aaron for a great instructional video !!
My pleasure! Glad you liked it.
gorgeous
thank you.
Wow! You did an amazing job. The nightstand is absolutely beautiful! After glazing, does it need sealed? I am looking for a china cabinet to makeover and think I want to glazing but unsure if I want white or off white. Have you re-done any china cabinets?
I have done a few. Maybe not with this technique but China Cabinets are a good bit of work for sure. Here's a link for a search result of my @bowtietreasures FB account: facebook.com/profile/100063687093044/search/?q=china%20cabinet
I am thinking of a raised stencil in fish scales. In teal. And put a glaze over it. I will be gifting it for a friend. Thank you for the tips. A porch board for her new house.
Great idea! Would love to see.
I am trying my hand at painting furniture for myself and am learning so much from your videos. Painted a TV console with Dropcloth and needed to learn how to use the glaze so thank you! Who knows how it'll turn out for me but it's only paint, right? :)
That is awesome! So glad this has been a resource!!
Great tutorial! - thank you! Where did you get the round turn table?
I made it. I hope this link helps you with your creation:

Thank you!
Have you ever used a sage or olive green with an antique look?
That's a great question. I am unsure if I have done this technique on those colors, but it would work great.
What if the glaze does set up on you and dries. How do you fix it? Thank you.
Probably repaint that section. Since I keep it wet and work quickly and work in small manageable section, I haven't had that issue overall.
Does the glaze only work over chalk paint?
Some like to top coat first. I guess it depends on what you want to use it on.
Could I wax and glaze
glaze is water based so it won't really work well on wax. It would be better to glaze then wax.
What top coat did you use on this piece? This is beautiful!
Just Dixie Belle satin topcoat
Haha you are making dirty furniture! 😄
haha, you know it. :-)
