Thank you for mentioning CURING time. Most people don't talk about it because it requires patience, and most people don't have that. Many paint manufacturers don't mention curing time anywhere, and each paint seems to have a different time (not to mention local climate). They NEVER want to discourage the customer from buying. I find that if you don't respect cure time, strange and ugly things can happen. Also, priming: what an important step towards a successful outcome that few want to talk about. Most people are lazy and want to skip that step. A lot of people hate the word SANDING. The art of sanding well should never be overlooked or dismissed. You are a superb content provider, and a very talented artist. Thank you sharing.
Good tips! Fantastic idea on damp brush with chalk paint! One thing I've found true and learned from a designer is to never shake paint, Especially chalk paint. She recommends you store upside down and always keep sealed as you do, but also I turn them on the side and roll them back and forth to get a good stir. Shaking paint causes bubbles in the paint which is not good for pure color transfer when painting.
Hi Christina, I have watched hundreds of videos and nobody explains things better then you . Nobody has your simplicity of visual tutoring like you do . Nobody has your warm voice and flair of the flow. My project will be my living room floor that is 99 years old coming to the conclusion that the best way to renew this floor is to chalk paint it using a blend method of two colors . As you said if you screw up you can always repaint it .
You have such a calming voice. I have a sold dark wood chest of drawers that I want to paint. After cleaning it thoroughly do you suggest I sand it lightly before priming?
First time I have seen EVERYTHING I needed to know in one video - THANK YOU! - fellow BC lady!!! I have watched tons of videos on chalk paint with Annie Sloan herself, ("on no, you don't need to prime" - really, Annie??)and lots of other videos from ladies in the painting world - and have finished alot of furniture myself, sanding, stripping, swearing - yes swearing - and staining. Having finally pried open a can of chalk paint for the first time, I painted one coat on my beautiful vintage drop leaf storage table, found bleed through so now I've sanded and primed - waiting for it to dry for a day or so, then, armed with my spray bottle and new brush, I will be re-watching your video and attempting to finish my table! Thank you!!!! Soooo helpful!
Oak is a hard one. Because the oily knots come through. Best to prime oak furniture for sure. Chalk paint will not cover it and it bleeds through. So I’d like to know if a good primer as well
Excellent presentation! A couple points I want to remember are: Don’t mix tap water in the paint. Don’t wax b4 painting & more. I love the fact that you stress that if you don’t like the end product, the color of the paint, or whatever, it’s no big deal ....it can be done over. thanks for that!
Yes that was tip number six that was one of my favorites, A big yay! and not sticking a dry brush directly into The chalk paint. I’m redoing a table to use in my office for my desk and my first time I ever do anything like this so like someone else said I learned everything we needed video❤️
I just did that. was so happy to start painting my vintage vanity and now i am disappointed.. its way too bleh light grey with cream under. then i added of all things dark wax and now it looks like it was soaked in tea :-( i had to walk away
This tutorial was as close to perfect as you could get. No nonsense, the don'ts and the why. Plain and simple. I love videos that get straight to the point without all the extra fluff. I am tackling two wingback chairs; this will be my first furniture paint project. Sure, I could have started with something small, but I'm a go-big or stay-home kind of lady, so let the painting begin. Worse case, there is an upholstery shop just a few clicks away. lol
#8 THANK YOU. I understand that many people are trying to sell the brands or are very brand loyal but this is the first video that says flat out "mix and match!" I'm new to this so I'm watching lots of videos trying to figure out what brands and colors to choose. I also would like to know how well top coats and different finishes mix across brands. off to watch more of your channel!
I love your presentation professionalism. Thank you for your skilled pleasant voice, articulation, calm, and mature mannerisms. Your style places you above 95% of others offering chalk paint learning opportunities.
Thank you for sharing. I am at the right place. I’m realizing I don’t know very much about refinishing furniture. I now know where to find the answers. I’m so happy to find your videos.
Wow. So much obvious logical stuff. But people want to do things cheap and dirty and fast. And they don't understand why what they end up with looks cheap and dirty. So thank you very much for these very insightful comments. I do appreciate them. Gail in Central Florida. March 24, 2021.
I have what I call “decor anxiety.” I want to love decorating and home projects, but I just find everything overwhelming. I got the itch to try again and found your video. Your voice is so calming and the tips sound helpful! Thank you! 😊
I have been interested in redoing furniture for quite some time now, but have never worked with chalk paint. I saw this video and I think you may have just saved me from a lot of heartache! Thank you so much. I have been to B.C. and just loved it there. My sisters and I had a sisters vacation to Victoria and just really enjoyed it.
Hi Christina! I love your videos, particularly this one, because I'm gonna start a small project and I was not sure whether I could mix different colors. I know the best I can do is to marathon all your videos on that! Starting now 🤩 Thanks a lot!
Thank you very much for your recommendations! You have an excellent style to speak nad your voice is so smooth and sweet !! I'm watching you from Greece. The world is so small indeed!
I've never used chalk paint, but I will soon. All of these tips are very useful for someone just starting and I'm glad I watched before starting my project. As an acrylic artist, I'm all about the water bottle! Nothing more useful. Curing is also important for everything from acrylic to oils to wall paint. Just let it sit and acclimate and cure and I've been much happier with projects. #6 is awesome! Don't be afraid! It's just paint and a little bit of time. And if you're creative, you can always make something work, even if it's a re-do. I can't tell you how many canvases I've covered with gesso and started all over, whether acrylic or oil. Question: I understand you can mix chalk paints, but can you adjust tints and tones with acrylic paint? Heavy pigmented acrylic paint shouldn't thin it significantly, especially if you're toning.
I love this video. I wish I had watched it *before* I started chalk painting some oak kitchen cabinets that had pretty good coat of varnish on them. I've painted all of them with one coat of Annie Sloan Chalk paint original white. A few of the drawers I have painted a second time. But they still end of looking distressed and not super white. I'm thinking about doing sanding the cabinets down, applying primer to all of them and the then painting the last coat. I will say, adding water to the paint does help a lot. I think my first coat was too thick. Do you think adding the primer and sanding will help?
You certainly have put my mind at ease. I have several pieces of older furniture that I want to chalk paint but have actually been too anxious to begin, thinking they may be ruined or the colors will not be as I had hoped. I can redo them! Such practical, good tips and even your voice is soothing. I compare this new undertaking to trying computers over 20 yrs ago, thinking I would break the machine or wipe all good work away. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos. Thank you, Christina. I just subscribed & I see a big light at the end of the tunnel.
I just found this...and thank goodness I did! I am about to do my very first chalk paint project on an antique Hoosier cabinet that belonged to my mother. It has several coats of paint and I have been advised that stripping it will most likely be a much bigger job than I originally thought. I think these tips will help tremendously!
Hi! Now I m on my first steps in furniture make over but I have to tell you something: I like a lot when you re smiling to the camera, and i think You are Soooo cute, Jorge from Spain, Menorca
oh my God im just amazed by your ideas to all the DIY that you do i just suscribed to your channel recentely im in miami florida been retired the past two years and lots of ideas of my own but now you took me to the next level thank you so much for sharing all you diy thank mariela
Can I use this on wall panelling ( new ) I'm so tired of commercial paint that here in France is about 75 euros for 2,5 litres that need sometimes three coats, it makes painting really expensive. Primer paint is just as expensive and I have a horrible memory of that. One year with a friend we took apart her dated oak kitchen, scrubbed it, sanded it, primed it, rubbed it down each time then gave it more than two coats and it just chipped and rubbed at once, not to mention bubbles as if we were painting on oil. If I had know chalk paint then it would have helped. I've not seen it used on walls yet ?
Always a good idea to moisten a brush before beginning any paint project with latex (water-based) paint. It will make clean up so much easier. Think about it: if you dip a dry brush into paint you are essentially painting the bristles themselves!
Hi Annie, I got this desk with drawers from a charity shop and will paint it with white and pink for my daughter. Thank you for the amazing tips! I feel more confident after watching this video! Hopefully, I will succeed🤞😊
Thanks for this info. I've painted over wax and nothing happened. Good to know it can be a problem. Question: Do you paint your walls with chalk paint? Do you wax over it?
Thank you ! You do beautiful work ! I’m am changing my colors in our home ! What should do when chalk paint OVER WAXED FUNITURE ? All Annie Slone products. Anything to prep THOESE waxed pieces ?
I am a mixed media contemporary abstract artist and in my studio I use a little trick with my acrylic paints to get them to flow better. In my misting spray bottle and secondary rinse bucket I add a few drops of glycerin to my water. Why? Because glycerin makes water more wet or more slick, if that makes sense. So, I tried it one day when I was going to paint an end table with chalk paint. I added a few drops of glycerin to my misting bottle. There was a big difference in paint flow and the paint application was much smoother. Hope this helps. 😊 Note: A few drops goes a long. For a large misting bottle like the type hair stylist use, 4 to 5 drops of glycerin is all you would add.
Hi Gina!!! thank you! This is a great tip!!!!! I have to try this! where do you get the glycerin? I have seen glycerin in the pharmacy, is this the same one? Many thanks for this tip!! ❤️🎨🙏
Thanks for having a nice soothing voice and being professional and not trying to instruct while talking about yourself or kids running thru and all that other jazz. That stuff drives me nuts. Great tips and definitely subscribing 💖
Hey Katie! I am coming to you to learn my top 10 don’ts with my spray gun!!! 🤣Lol I can’t wait try it on a piece!!! Looking forward to seeing your new video this Saturday. Ps I am burning the midnight oil tomorrow night! Feel free to DM if you need help staying awake!!! 🤗 🎨🙏❤️
Very helpful guide. About to start my first chalk paint project, a small book case. I hadn't planned on priming but I will now. Considering temperature and drying time, I will paint inside the house and not in the garage.
Thank you for another great informative video. You explain things so well - great tip re buying smaller sample sizes of the not so neutral colours. I'm itching to try using corals and pinks next. Cheers from Sunny Coast - Down Under.
Oh my goodness, be still my ❤️ where have you been all my life lol I just love you! My pieces have ok but I’ve been doing it all wrong. Thank you so much ! Can’t wait to see all of your videos. Great advice! So glad I finally found you !
Thanks sooooo much!!!! You have been most helpful.. Very new to painting.. And I am loving it.. It is so peaceful and takes a lot of patience 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾❤️❤️
Wow! I am so glad I found your channel and subscribed. You gave me permission to repaint. LOL! 😆 I painted an old secretary desk white and I want to antique it but I’m afraid I’ll mess it up ... mostly because I’m so detailed oriented and I don’t have to be with these paint techniques ... so now I can antique and if I don’t like it I can repaint it. .. who knew that!? 😉
Gracias Cristina, por todas tus recomendaciones. Es importante aprender cada detalle para mejorar cada día en este trabajo de renovación de muebles. Saludos!🙇😊
Oooh Thank you So much.I dint know I had to wax again after six months also twice I add tap water 💦 in the container of paint a couple other mistakes but been fixed.. And all your Tips.. Thank you again you are amazing 😉
@@TheReclaimedHeirloom they have several different recipe on youtube that you can choose from you can pick one that will work for you as for color I usually make my own with acrylic paint but it basically goes back to you just feel it out and what works for you. I still use the wax dark as well as light depending on what ever color I'm with !!! I have a little Botique in an antique mall and buy and sell furniture as well as everything else. So I find making my chalk paint cut's the cost, so I can still make money with out over pricing.
Thank you!! You can used any Chalk paint you like! my techniques will work on all types of paint!!! Thank you so much! I hope you enjoy today's new video! ❤️🎨🙏
A most enjoyable anD wonderfully executed presentation Thank you. I have just got into chalk painting as a hobby so your tips were invaluable. I have subscribed as I need to watch the series from the beginning. Best wishes from London UK.
Hi Stephen!! Welcome to my channel!! So glad you subscribed! I have my previous videos on playlists sorted by techniques which may help you to start out with!! If you have questions please reach out! Thanks again for your support to my channel! 🇬🇧🇨🇦❤️🎨🙏
I must tell you I watched your post on washing furniture you did an old oak dining table and washed rubbed and ragged and the water spray bottle was a good save as I'm painting in south Africa and tge paint dries super fast you made my day and got the task done an excellent totorial well done you rock and don't stop your the bomb xxxx
Great info! I live in sunny Florida and try to paint in the garage on occasion. I don’t recommend it if it can be avoided. Some pieces are just too large to schlep into the house. So glad you mentioned water in paint jars. I have one that I must have done that with and - just wow! Not pleasant to open. I assumed that was the issue, but now you have confirmed my suspicion. Have a wonderful week! 😁
Thanks for that. I am a beginer and live in rural Queensland. And guess what I knew all of your tips. Thank you, it was so reassuring to not only think I'am on the right track but to actually know it. The only thing is A.S Chalk paint is very hard to get out here. I have had to travel to Brisbane to buy some, postage is prohibitive, so I wait until I have to go down there. Last trip I even bought an expensive wax brush and it disappeared on me and didn't come home with me. Upset me no end. stay safe
This was a great presentation thank you! I am painting a marble fireplace with chalk paint. On the second coat I used a roller. It shows. Do you recommend doing another coat on top with a wet brush as you say here or lightly sand first?
Hi Christina, writing to you from the other side of Canada (NS)! Thank you for those fantastic tips. I have a couple of questions: 1) What is the best way to store my brush between coats - taking into consideration that I sometimes (o.k. Often) get distracted with other things in between! 2) What is the best way to clean my brushes? I have two Annie Sloan brushes (1 for paint and 1 for wax). Cheers, Shannon
Thank you Christina. Love watching your videos and learning from you - also live in BC where the weather can be extreme 😊 I have been having fun with furniture, but would like to do a wall. A vintage Paris wall. I’ve noticed a beautiful wall in the back ground of some of your finished projects. Did you paint your wall , and if so , do you have a video of the project? Thanks again for you fun and informative videos. You rock 🤗
Thank you so much Barbra 🙏💙 for your kind comment and cheers to my BC neighbour 🤗 I plan to make a few mire tutorials on how to create fun wall textures ( plaster layering ) I love old world looks and o know what your thinking . This was my first wall paint tutorial and wanted to see if subscribers had value to it so your feedback really helps 🙏💙🎨
Thank you for your video. I recently bought my first can of chalk paint to cover a large plastic mirror frame. I'm now on the third layer to really cover the black frame. It's covered pretty well, but I wish that I had seen this video prior so that I would have done a little sanding first.
Thanks a lot for this excellent recommandations ! 🙏 So cooooool ... I love all your gorgeous projects ! It s so frenchy 😊. You have the "vieille france" feeling !! 💙
Ur information was absolutely great. U informed hope many things in regards to chalk paint. I knew about the spray bottle but had no idea about adding water to it from ur tap. Great info. By the way has anyone ever told u that u have a very nice voice. It’s very soothing. Many thanks 😊👍
Christina I loved ur episode. Your video is so helpful I can't wait to paint my old furniture. It's so important to know the dont's than the do's. Very well explained. thank u so much Christina.
This was such great information- I’m about to try chalk paint for the first time! I want to do it right because if my little project works out, I might just use chalk paint on my yellowed wooden kitchen cupboards. I’m in BC too! Near Victoria 😀
I have the same question - want to paint kitchen cabinets. Why is she saying ASK QUESTIONS and I am seeing NO ANSWERS??? I need to know why chalk paint over regular paint on my kitchen cabinets.
I like the fact that you dont "waffle on", just to fill minutes. You just give us the hard facts, in a clear and concise way. Great presenting.

One thing I've found true and learned from a designer is to never shake paint, Especially chalk paint. Oak is a hard one. Because the oily knots come through. Best to prime oak furniture for sure. Chalk paint will not cover it and it bleeds through. So I’d like to know if a good primer as well

@@TheReclaimedHeirloom Yes ma'am it indeed is. Your local Walmart and grocery store should carry it too. 😊
Thanks for having a nice soothing voice and being professional and not trying to instruct while talking about yourself or kids running thru and all that other jazz. That stuff drives me nuts. Great tips and definitely subscribing 💖
Thank you so much! I hope you enjoy today's new video! ❤️🎨🙏
Thanks so much! I learned something new. I did not know to turn over the paint can before using. You are so good at explaining things!
great program. I'm a beginner and have 2 questions: how do I remove the clear wax sealant when I repaint my project?
How do I clean my brushes?

Jeniales consejos voy aguardar este video gracias ❤️
I'm so terrible for "can care". I know better but I still make the same mistakes over and over again. Thank you for laying down the law!
Thank you so much José for your thoughtful comment and feedback 🙏💙
I really appreciate your kind words and support 🤗💙💙
Oh my goodness, be still my ❤️ where have you been all my life lol
I just love you!
My pieces have ok but I’ve been doing it all wrong.
Thank you so much ! Can’t wait to see all of your videos. Great advice! So glad I finally found you !
Hi Christina, what if you used distilled water to add to the paint tin, would that eliminate the long term bacteria?
Bonjour,
Anna
Love these Q&A’s. Learnt a lot watching them as I’m fairly new to up cycling. Thankyou from the UK Christina.
Thank you so much Susan 🙏💙

Hi Mary!!! Welcome to my channel! So happy to hear that are inspired to paint!! Give it a try you can do it!!! See you this Saturday!! 🎨🙏❤️
Thank you for your helpful tips I will try I have been collecting all the information before I try painting with the chalk paint very helpful👍

Oooh Thank you So much.I dint know I had to wax again after six months also twice I add tap water 💦 in the container of paint a couple other mistakes but been fixed.. And all your Tips.. Thank you again you are amazing 😉
I worked a lot with Chalk paint. So I started making my own chalk paint and have had great success.
That is fantastic!!! How are you making your chalk paint? I would love to learn to make my own!! ❤️🎨🙏
Thank you so muchfo4this information. I just chalk painted with Country Chic just a beginner. Next time I’ll use Annie Sloan.
Thank you!! You can used any Chalk paint you like! my techniques will work on all types of paint!!! Thank you so much! I hope you enjoy today's new video! ❤️🎨🙏

Thank you so much, Christina! Always informative! Love your channel.
Thank you very much! I hope you enjoy today’s new video 🎨🙏❤️
Thank you for the 101's. So very concise and helpful. You are wonderful !!
Hi Rebe!!! Glad it was helpful! ❤️🎨🙏
Hi Cynthia! yeah I was surprised when I was told this tips ❤️🎨🙏
@@TheReclaimedHeirloom would this also happen with distilled or filtered water?
Thanks for #6. Just lifted a great amount of self doubt off my shoulder.
Upset me no end. stay safe
Thank you Christina! Another informative show!
Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment and support 🙏💙💙
Awesome tips!! I’m thinking about trying my hand at doing a re-do on my buffet. Wish me luck🙏🏼🙏🏼
Love your videos. So helpful. 👏👏👏👏
Hi Linda!! Glad you like them! ❤️🎨🙏
Gracias, excelente, me encantó, saludos desde Los Andes, Chile.
¡Muchas gracias por sus amables palabras y apoyo a mi canal, muy apreciado! ❤️🙏🎨
You rock 🤗
Thank you so much Barbra 🙏💙 for your kind comment and cheers to my BC neighbour 🤗
I plan to make a few mire tutorials on how to create fun wall textures ( plaster layering )
I love old world looks and o know what your thinking .
This was my first wall paint tutorial and wanted to see if subscribers had value to it so your feedback really helps 🙏💙🎨
@@TheReclaimedHeirloom loved your tips thx much question..why does chalk paint dry to such a pale almost there when dry brushed
Thank you for your video. I recently bought my first can of chalk paint to cover a large plastic mirror frame. I'm now on the third layer to really cover the black frame. It's covered pretty well, but I wish that I had seen this video prior so that I would have done a little sanding first.
Glad you liked the video! ❤️🙏🎨
Thank You very much Ms Christina, that was so helpful.🥰
Thank you so much Regeina 🙏
Your kind words and support means so much 🤗

I have been using chalk paint for a few years and learned great tips from your video 👍
