  • I get asked a lot about how to glaze furniture over chalk paint. So in this video, I’m showing you exactly how I glaze with Valspar Antiquing Glaze.
    You can glaze over chalk paint with a few simple steps, transforming any piece of furniture into a masterpiece.
    Adding glaze to painted furniture accents the details and makes them pop, but also deepens a dark color, or antiques the paint color a bit!
    |What to Expect|

I would love to see this with a lighter color of chalk paint and then a dark glaze. I will look through your other videos and see if you have anything like that. Thanks for this excellent tutorial.

Wonder if I can use the Varathane Polyutherane over the Rustoleum top coat. Anyone know? Thanks. A Ray of Sunshine... Katie Scott (whose work i love) suggested her viewers check you out. So if the wood is dry and u use chalk paint and polly then the wood has no t been nourished.
    Can u use oil polly?
    Or oil paint.
    I noticed hardly any flipper uses oil paint. The smell is amazing and it is flourishing for wood.

    Hi, interesting video. I have been watching and learning about chalk paint and glazing. You are the first one to suggest that the poly goes on first and then a glaze. I am redoing my kitchen and wanted some distressed cabinets using different tones of chalk paint with a glaze up top. I would have put the poly on at the end as a top coat. I am now more confused, I understood that the glaze worked with the chalk paint not against it?

    • @ARayofSunlight
      @ARayofSunlight  2 роки тому

      If you put glaze on top of the porous chalk paint it will soak right in and you won’t be able to remove it or play around with it to your liking. Then when you’re done glazing you put more poly on the top to seal in the glaze. Do a little test on some scrap wood to see what you think.

      @judemclean1522 2 роки тому

      @@ARayofSunlight I am still on testing boards so will try both ways. Key is that my kitchen is painted white, I will be using a primer first, I am not painting directly on wood.

    After chalk paint, I waited more than 24 hours to glaze. A part of my dresser top is not drying. When I rub off the glaze in this area, the glaze rubs off showing the chalk paint. What can I do? I used Rustoleum chalk paint and Rustoleum glaze.

    OMG ..I was just looking at this paint and these two colors in particular! I’ve never tried it before, but sounds like you recommend trying it - and wow the mix of the two is gorgeous! If you didn’t glaze this piece would you have needed to top coat it?

    • @ARayofSunlight
      @ARayofSunlight  3 роки тому +1

      Wow! What timing! These two colors on their own are my absolute favs from their line.
      It would still need to be top coated without the glaze. I just put 3 coats of poly on if I don’t glaze.

      @@ARayofSunlight but I thought this paint had a built in top coat like Fusion paint

    • @ARayofSunlight
      @ARayofSunlight  3 роки тому

      @@dianealves8060 hmm. I’m not sure what other paint you’re thinking of. But country chic paint doesn’t have a topcoat built in. If you don’t topcoat it, it will get dirty really really easily and you won’t be able to scrub it if it gets anything on it.
      Just rubbing my hand on country chic paint that hasn’t been top coated will leave a dirty streak.

    • @dianealves8060
      @dianealves8060 3 роки тому

      @@ARayofSunlight good to know- I saw another video where the person said it was an all in one paint with topcoat built in.. Fusion Mineral paint doesn’t need to be top coated. I hate using a top coat - makes me break out in a sweat! Drips just make me crazy! Still might try it- will use your coupon!! 🙌🏼

    • @ARayofSunlight
      @ARayofSunlight  3 роки тому +1

      @@dianealves8060 hmm I’m not sure why anyone would say it has a topcoat built in.. I mean, it’s decently durable on its own, but it’s definitely not like fusion mineral.
      Honestly, if I had to brush poly on, I would hate it too. I absolutely love spraying it on though.
      Have you ever tried putting it on with a sponge? Country chic paint has a painting sponge that helps poly go on without streaks. I get the sponge a little wet first and then I dip it in the poly. That’s the only other way I can stand to put on poly.
