Using Wii Controllers on the Nintendo Switch with 8Bitdo Adapter

- Hi, this in depth video shows various different Wii controllers on the Nintendo Switch and whether or not they work when using a 8Bitdo Bluetooth Wireless Adapter.
With the release of Super Smash Bros Ultimate at the end of the year some people are wondering if they can reuse their old GameCube inspired controllers for the Wii on the Nintendo Switch. If you watch the video you will find out.
The video also shows you how to update the 8Bitdo adapter to the lastest firmware.

Fun fact, when you press either 1+2 at the same time or sync, the number of LEDs that light up on the front of a Wiimote is coordinate to how much charge is in the battery. So more LEDs lit up, the more battery.

This takes away and adds another resolution to the “Control Drift” problem.
Reusing controllers from other game consoles and syncing them to your switch makes it more awesome.
Version 10.0.0 for the Nintendo Switch added button mapping, so you can change the inputs for a more traditional button style.
i don't think they work on 3rd party controllers though, for example, i have this usb gamecube controller and the shoulder buttons are swapped. since they are 3rd party and usb, i can't remap them to what i'm used to.

My mate VINCE: You can use the Wii controller.
The Wiimote's D-Pad is registered as a D-Pad, which sucks for Smash Ultimate players, which requires a joystick for actual battle.

When I bought smash bro’s brawl, I thought that I would have to learn how to use a Wii remote and that the game cube controllers would become extinct. Unfortunately, two smash bro’s later the GameCube controller is completely relevant and it’s the Wii controller that is disappearing. Thank you so much for this video, I can now feel hyped for smash ultimate!

Brawl supports the GameCube controller?
The NES and SNES classic controllers also work with the Wiimote. You can use this adaptor to make the classic controllers work.

What is good is Nintendo are using the same plug as the Wii on the classics so you can buy a Wii remote connecter and play with any Nintendo controller(obviously not the orginal Nintendo controllers )apart from the Wii.u pro controller

Hey Vince, great video! I was wondering if with the 3bitdo or with the magic-NS adapter there was any kind of compatibility with the xiaomi controller or other Chinese controllers (eg. the gamesir one). I couldn't find any kind of information about. Keep up with the great content!

Not only does it drift, it automatically presses random buttons quickly. And yes my nunchuk drifts in some games. I have to take it out of the Wii Remote and plug it back in for it to work properly.

Thanks, I prefer the Magic-NS because you can use wired controllers like the Xbox 360 controller. If you want to use Wiimotes then you have to use the 8Bitdo which is wireless only :-)

Hi, apparently the Magic NS adapter now supports the Wiimotes on the latest firmware according to some comments on this video. I haven't tested it yet but if it works then that magic NS adapter just gets better and better.

Unlike others' experience, I had no issues with motion controls back then. The switch controllers for Skyward Sword are not at all as fluid or comfortable.

I’m really interested getting these. Not just because they work with my Switch, but they also connect to my Wii U and my Mac Mini. They would probably work with iOS if Apple and 8bitdo would just get that stuff certified. :(

Besides using the wii controllers and battle pad
Controllers using the 8bitdo adapter you can also use an adapter call the Bluetooth adapter for PC and switch and what that does is it lets you use game cube controller and wii classic controllers on the adapter that connects to either of those devices and then you can use we controllers on your switch if you don’t know what that is Look it up on Amazon it’s really cool
Would I be able to use this to play the new Smash game with the Wiimote sideways? this looks like it would just activate the d-pad (so taunts) over and over instead of like with brawl where it actually lets you move side to side and jump or duck. I hope you all can repress your need to berate me over my choice in controller just long enough to answer my question lol.
I believe you can remap controls in smash, but I'm not sure if that would work with the dpad
I think you can remap the controls to certain names, so you should be able to swap taunts and movement.

softyoss Yeah I tested it for smash ultimate. The Wii remote connects but there’s no movement for the characters. The dpad on the Wii remote is not mapped to joycon’s joystick sadly :(

I have an update on this, You can use the wiimote on the switch, everything works fine. Only problem is the Wiimote doesnt have a control stick, and in SSB ultimate it treats the Wiimote as if it does have a control stick, which leaves you unable to actually move around in battle. The dpad is limited to taunts and attacks, not actual movement. Im currentyl trying to figure out how to get the Dpad to act as a control stick

When I first got the adapter I tried using the nunchuck and I freaked out a bit.
Also L & R and ZL & ZR are mapped properly on an official Wii pro controller

Thanks to Mission Control you can now connect these controllers without the adapter, while this is a good alternative for people with unhackable switches

I just bought the adapter from best buy. Soon as saw how small it was I said yea I wont be unplugging this once its plugged into my dock. I aslo bought a wii u pro controller to pair with it. Its a really good controller so I would be disappointed if I lost my adapter too.

Thats what the people who made PUBg mobile need to hear because they are idiots for banning people just for using octopus to play PUBg mobile i wanted to play it with my X-box 360 wired controller on my phone and i googled and googled and googled some more and the only thing that can get the X-box controllers to work is octopus and when i saw they were banning people for useing it i didn't use it because i don't want to be banned so i jist use octopus for running MS-DOS software on my phone.
