I really miss when Nintendo would just put a bunch of random ports and slots for things they’ll maybe do in the future since it always makes for a good story
The reason analog triggers were never attempted again past the Wii Classic Controller is due to a lawsuit by a patent troll Anascape, where they sued Microsoft and Nintendo in 2006 over the violation of 12 different patents, 7 of which involved analog triggers. Nintendo lost this case in 2008, owing the troll 21mill dollars, but eventually appealed/won it in 2010. While this protects their rerelease of the gamecube controller (and I suppose the original Wii Classic), if they were to attempt a new controller with analog, they would likely face another lawsuit, with no guarantee of winning this time. Hope this helps!
I remember I bought a Wii Classic Controller Pro from a Walmart around 2015 in the Wii U days. They took a lot of time in checkout because the controller was removed from their database because they hadnt sold one in forever.

Beavis and Butt-Head is an American adult animated television series created by Mike Judge for MTV (seasons 1-8) and later Paramount+ (season 9 - present, as Mike Judge's Beavis and Butt-Head).The series follows Beavis and Butt-Head, both voiced by Judge, a pair of teenage slackers characterized by their apathy, lack of intelligence, lowbrow humor, and love for hard rock and heavy metal. The characters originated in Judge's 1992 short film Frog Baseball, which was broadcast by MTV's animation showcase Liquid Television. After MTV commissioned a full series, Beavis and Butt-Head ran for seven seasons from 1993 to 1997. It was revived with an eighth season aired on MTV in 2011. A second revival, consisting of an initial two-season order, premiered on Paramount+ in 2022. During its initial run, Beavis and Butt-Head received critical acclaim for its satirical, scathing commentary on society, as well as criticism for its alleged influence on adolescents. While it is a bit light and insubstantial, the fact that kept costs down by leaving most of the electronics to the Wii Remote was a fantastic choice.
Resident Evil 4 supported the Classic Controller but not the GameCube one, but there was a trick to use it: you plug in your GameCube controller and remove the batteries from the Wii Remote so the GameCube controller is the only thing connected, and ta-da, it works. The prompts shows the Classic Controller buttons tho.
I love the randomness of all these Scott's Stash videos, it makes my day. Only thing is when you wrap around the controller so tightly you damage the cords. Just a heads up. ❤
18:50 there was also something sold at Walmart at one point that was a combination of these two bundles. It was a package a lot like the one on the left, except it also included a Wii Points card. It was also absurdly easy to get the Wii Points card out of the package without even opening it, so many of those bundles had the card stolen.
Opening my Wii on Christmas morning with the Classic Controller, browsing the Wii Shop Channel, and playing Super Mario Bros. with my dad is a core memory.

The Classic Controller is pretty much the most versatile Nintendo controller, considering you can use it with most Virtual Console content on Wii and Wii U, most Wii U games, and even the Switch if you have a USB adapter. I also think it works with GameCube games on Nintendont, so I suppose those analog triggers do get some use after all, assuming you're willing to jailbreak the console.
The classic wii controller having hexagonal cutouts for the sticks really supports your hypothesis that it might've originally been meant to be used for GC games. Maybe they ran into technical problems getting GC input to work through the wii mote.
I actually had a classic controller with one of those covers and I actually really preferred it with it. Not because it added extra grip but it was just really soft to the touch and felt nice

As a kid I only had the Wii and I had no idea it could play GameCube games so I always looked at those store shelves are the game Store in my country still having GameCube games looking like "damn, wish I could play those". Man.
In all fairness not all Wii Consoles could play Gamecube games. The exterior differences of course the Gamecube ports on top of the console, but without looking at that the orientation of the Wii Logo on the front of the console. If the Wii Logo was upright while in Vertical orientation, it was backward compatible. If the Wii Logo was upright in horizontal orientation, it was one of the consoles that had backward compatibility scrapped.
8:40 right on the money, when the gigaleak happened one of the documents mentions hardware that would allow emulating the GC controller via bluetooth. It's assumed this hardware didn't make it to the Wii but we know it's possible to do it in software because of homebrew like devolution (and much later nintendont) have support for it.
Nintendo no longer implements analog triggers into their controllers as a company owns the patent for the technology behind them, Sony and Microsoft pay a fee to include them. They only included them on GameCube controllers still as I guess they think that they have to.
Let's not forget there's also many games that allows controller remapping. I for example use a switch pro GameCube controller. It has all the Bells and whistles like a normal switch pro controller just with a GameCube shell.
Love the Wii Classic Controller Pro - I use it on PC with an 8BitDo GBros adapter. I agree it's a bit light, so I opened mine up and wedged a stack of washers inside each grip - now it's perfect.
@@gab_v250 I use it wired, since I'm right in front of my computer anyway. And if you didn't know, that adapter also works with the nunchuck. Mouse + nunchuck is great for FPS games, as long as they don't need too many buttons.

It works even better in the other direction. You can use the Wii Classic Controller on the Mini Classics and the home button takes you back to the game selection
The only missed Classic Controller variants that were officially licensed by Nintendo that you missed were the PDP fight pads. Released around the time of Smash 4, PDP made GameCube-style classic controllers themed after Nintendo characters and franchises. I used it for N64 games and Mario Kart 8 since the GameCube Adapter was only compatible with Smash 4.
Classic controller pro was one of the most (if not the most) ergonomic feeling controller I've held. Used it for PS1 emulation via a Mayflash adapter all the time 11 years ago. A shame it lost out on the analogue triggers. And it never got the thumbstick buttons.
I literally played every game that supported it and only used it. I couldn’t play smash on another controller if I had tried back then. And I loved it for fire emblem. Will go down in time as my favorite controller
I still maintain that the GameCube controller was one of the best controllers ever. I love the analog easing of the trigger + the buttonpress at the end. That needs to be a thing nowadays. I just wish the GC controller had clickable thumbsticks, and a left shoulder button.
Those NES and SNES classic controllers get a lot of use out of me ever since I got the 8bitdo dongle that allows me to Bluetooth them (as well as GameCube controllers) to PC and switch, so any time I play a PC 2D game, I’m usually using my snes classic controller, worked wonders for the FF Pixel Remasters. I’m glad that controller connection is so supported.
Plenty of comments have already mentioned how you can use the Classic Controllers on the minis. But surprised he didn't when he brings up the reverse. Similar he brings up adapters to make other controllers "Classic Controllers" but no adapters to use Classic Controllers elsewhere? Those Wii Points just sitting in a box hurts me.
The best part about kirby's dream collection supporting classic controller is that the challenge stage mode, which basically uses the same exact engine and gameplay as kirby's return to dreamland, supports the classic controller.
Plugging in the classic controller to an NES Classic or SNES Classic is great too. Home button takes you back to the main menu without having to get up and click the reset button!
With an adapter, you can use the Classic Controllers on Switch and they work great mimicking a Pro Controller...even the home button works! Perfect for the Switch Online Apps to play retro games!
I have an adapter (don't remember where I got it) that allows you to plug Wii Classic Controllers into the SNES console. So I played through Terranigma and Secret of Evermore (SNES games with no modern ports) using the Wii Classic Controller. It was great because I had no actual SNES controllers remaining that don't have problems
I used to play this NHL game on my wii with the classic controller and for some reason that game played smooth as butter with that original classic controller. I loved that thing
Homebrewed wii is THE console for 240p emulation on a CRT. This is the best you get for playing them, basically. They're really very decent controllers. Some people would take them apart and hack them into fight sticks.

I love damaging the cords
18:50 there was also something sold at Walmart at one point that was a combination of these two bundles. It was a package a lot like the one on the left, except it also included a Wii Points card. It was also absurdly easy to get the Wii Points card out of the package without even opening it, so many of those bundles had the card stolen.
What is even weirder is that you can mash the d-pad to do everything motion-controlled in Kirby's Return to Dream Land
Opening my Wii on Christmas morning with the Classic Controller, browsing the Wii Shop Channel, and playing Super Mario Bros. with my dad is a core memory.
Man I just love hearing people talk about niche Wii stuff. It had so much half hidden forgotten features and accessories, I used to own a classic controller but forgot about the classic pro.
It was my favorite console (and it still is) and it just brings me joy to hear people talk about it and know some people still have fun with it !
Thanks for the video:)
I use it for GC and it is the perfect modern GC controller for 2006 lol
Now I'm wondering if there's an adapter to use a Classic Controller on a GC.
Love the Wii classic controller! I still use it on my switch from time to time
The classic wii controller having hexagonal cutouts for the sticks really supports your hypothesis that it might've originally been meant to be used for GC games. Maybe they ran into technical problems getting GC input to work through the wii mote.
This was my Favorite Wii Controller i used it soo much.
glas to see you cover it. i still have mine from when i used it when i was little
A time where I can say I own all the Wii Classic Controller Pro Colors and Scott doesn't is a W in my mind.
common Alm W
I prefer this channel over your main one, obscure topics with a more personal feel
SNES classic controller plugged into wii remote was how I was able to “properly” play Super Mario All Stars on the Wii.
I actually had a classic controller with one of those covers and I actually really preferred it with it. Not because it added extra grip but it was just really soft to the touch and felt nice
Im so glad scott the woz is finally sober again ❤️
I love this channel so much haha. It’s for all of us that know way too much about these little things
I actually used this on my switch for a lot. One of My favorite controllers, it just misses a few needed inputs for modern gaming.
How do you use Wii controllers on a Switch? Never heard of that being possible.
how?
@@philipp_mayr Just searched it. 8-bit Doe makes adapters to let you use Wii classic and Gamecube controllers on Switch. Might get one myself, seems cool.
@@noodleman4555 exactly 👍 I also used that dongle to get my PS4 controller to work on the switch. It worked so perfectly for botw until I discovered bootlegged amiibo NFC tags which needed joycons specifically.
Anyhoozle, the classic controller is great in conjunction with a joycon by your side for the missing buttons. I beat Pikmin 3 with my wife using the classic controller 😎
@@TheScripflipNetwork I got that 8bitdo adapter to use my Wii Remote and accessories on my Switch, but I found out it also works on PC so I also use it to hook up my Wii stuff or even my Switch controllers to my laptop too. You can get a lot of mileage out of just one of those adapters, definitely work it.
Really love these videos. Feels so good to see stuff I grew up with again. You're awesome Scott
God I love consoles, accessories, and all their quirks and nuances. I live for this content.
I’m praying for Scott The Woz channel to return one day!
The wii u video is coming
@@spennywenny I hope so!
I used to always want the Wii classic controller. It's kinda nostalgic seeing someone showing it off for the first time.
I can’t wait for Scott to do the nunchuck episode where he explains that the Wii nunchuck is just a wired n64 joystick
A GameCube controller without analog would feel so weird considering the extremely long travel distance until 100%
Let's not forget there's also many games that allows controller remapping. I for example use a switch pro GameCube controller. It has all the Bells and whistles like a normal switch pro controller just with a GameCube shell.
the wii classic controller now is older than the snes controller was when the wii classic controller was made
Love the Wii Classic Controller Pro - I use it on PC with an 8BitDo GBros adapter. I agree it's a bit light, so I opened mine up and wedged a stack of washers inside each grip - now it's perfect.
Cool! Do you use it wired or wireless?
My copy of the adapter only works with the batteries, and it eats up them quickly
@@gab_v250 I use it wired, since I'm right in front of my computer anyway. And if you didn't know, that adapter also works with the nunchuck. Mouse + nunchuck is great for FPS games, as long as they don't need too many buttons.
Scott raally got 20 minutes out of a controller, he can get atleast 10 minutes out of the L button
This controller works on the mini consoles they released too. I used mine on the mini snes and the home button works!
I literally just picked one of these up for mk wii. ( ctgp ) normally id use a gc controller, but its getting hard to find a good one for a reasonable price, so i switched to this. Also, i used to use a pro classic, but i hated the fact i had to use the top shoulder buttons..
Nahyou can still find genuine gamecube controllers for cheap. Just don’t look online
@jspantonio8807 that's the problem. My area has like one game store, and EVERYBODY buys up gamecube controllers. So still the same problem. And of course, they don't have any way to test them until you buy them.
i love scott's scripted, lore based videos so much, but i really love the lofi rambling style of videos.
A pretty decent controller I have the pro version
Scott I'm in love with your stash
I never got a classic controller for my wii back when it was still the console of the generation but I did get the dragon quest wii classic controller a year or two ago which is absolutely amazing in every sense of the word
The classic pro might be one of my favorites to this day. I still use it to play games on steam with an adapter.
I have an 8bitdo that feels pretty close to the classic pro controller
The controller with glove was sold at my local Walmart for the same price as the original. I have used the cover to this day and it has really helped keep mine white.
Scott's white Wiimote with a non translucent 'A' button is the most cursed thing I've seen all day
It works even better in the other direction. You can use the Wii Classic Controller on the Mini Classics and the home button takes you back to the game selection
So many UA-camrs are going down this path of using their original channels for hour long videos and their 2nd channel become the main channel.
Love this content man cant get enough of cool video game stuff
Classic controller pro was one of the most (if not the most) ergonomic feeling controller I've held. Used it for PS1 emulation via a Mayflash adapter all the time 11 years ago.
A shame it lost out on the analogue triggers. And it never got the thumbstick buttons.
I literally played every game that supported it and only used it. I couldn’t play smash on another controller if I had tried back then. And I loved it for fire emblem. Will go down in time as my favorite controller
I literally just talked about this today as my friend and i played mariokart wii for the first time. Love this lil thing!
I love the classic controller. It definitely needed to be used more
The funny thing about return to dreamland is the shaking feature is bound to spaming the D-pad too, making the motion controls unnessesary.
I’ve always loved this controller. It also works on the NES and SNES classic.
My 007 Goldeneye game came with a golden wii claasic controller and its so good. Still have it to this day, although i wish it could be used on PC
I love that there are now TWO Scott the Woz channels for double the Woz content.
Love Scott’s stash keep them coming please!!!
Very informative, appreciate you Scott!
I do the same thing with my Wii Classic Controller. Every button maps right to the Switch equivalent - it's super nice
I had to get this controller when I bought Mario RPG from the Wii Shop and this was the best thing ever.
The classic controller was my way to play smash and classic n64 titles so I was very fond of the two I had.
I used to play this NHL game on my wii with the classic controller and for some reason that game played smooth as butter with that original classic controller. I loved that thing
collecting controllers like infinity stones
ok how has no one seen this
Great video ! Cheers from France !
I use a 8Bitdo GBros adapter with one of my Wii Classic controllers, also works quite nicely
Homebrewed wii is THE console for 240p emulation on a CRT. This is the best you get for playing them, basically. They're really very decent controllers. Some people would take them apart and hack them into fight sticks.
Love this channel!!!
Bought mine in highschool (2006-2010) still works.
One time, I came across a garage sale, and they had a like 3 authentic wii classic controllers. Bought them, but turns out none of them work right, so they were sold on ebay. Mine, which was probably Bought in 2007, still worked, even if its a little yellowed.
