Back in the beginning of April my little Chihuahua had to have surgery to remove all his teeth he developed a bad infection and suffers from Tracheal collapse. After the surgery I was terrified that I was going to lose him. I gave him everything I could think of everything the slippery elm the dandelion ,Hawthorn, licorice root I mean everything including Suro. The doctor told me his blood vessels to his heart was like spaghetti, and he had a murmur.4 Months later she barely detected the murmur so I just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for what you do. I forgot to mention when I showed the doctor everything I had been giving Baby no lie ...She took notes of everything ! She was amazed she said he is healthy. He has a small hernia because of the surgery all the coughing he did. But because of his age, and since it ain’t bothering him we will just let it be. Thank again.

Also want to add I get Thor's Lion's Mane from Harmonic Arts. I was so happy to see this video as I recently brought this up with my vet who dismissed it. For Thor, it seems like we are at a point where he is no longer responding, but he is 13 and for a large breed dog that is great! I believe Lion's Mane extended his life and greatly improved the quality. Now, I just need to navigate the end of life options in the best way possible for him

Would a brace/wheelchair possibly help him? There is an animal shelter in Greece, named Takis' Shelter. He has over 500 dogs (+cats+goats). One of his dogs is a large breed that had been hit by a car (his back legs were paralyzed). Takis had surgery done for him, but it didn't quite work (mostly due to his age), but he has a cart/wheelchair which he puts Jack in twice a day (his front legs still work, not his back). The dog's name is Jack. Here is a video showing Jack (at 2:03 of the video). If it is of some help. So sorry you are facing this. My heart goes out to you Colleen. ua-cam.com/video/vvqXovC7sUg/v-deo.html

Paul Stamets has a wonderful book on mushrooms and their health benefits and this really got us to add a mix of mushrooms to our daily diet. Our 3 pomeranians don't have any major health concerns atm., but we all about prevention, so I add fresh lions mane, maiitake and shiitake (which I steam) on a rotational basis to their home made meals. For humans, lions mane is amazing when fried in slices in a little oil or butter (like you'd fry an egg) and has a very distinct texture and taste.

Thank you, so much, for telling us the weight/math/index for determining dosage. I've always known it. It's a no brainer to figure out. But, it's amazing how so many people feel a need to ask dosage questions for their fur baby's weight. Just read the bottle or package the product comes in, then figure the math/ weight ratio for your fur baby.

Wow is this timely for my family. My husband has been dealing with severe sciatica for two weeks now. I think there is a disc pressing on a nerve or possibly muscle swelling impacting the nerve. We've tried so much with little relief. I worry that we need to get the pressure off that nerve quickly before possible long term nerve damage occurs. Tried the urgent care clinic, ice/heat chiropractor, inversion table, tens unit and we are waiting on a package to arrive with a device that stimulates/strengthens back muscles to help with spacing and alignment. Never heard of Lions Mane before. Will be doing my research very soon. Feel so bad for our furry family when thinking about their silent suffering with this condition. They can't even tell us they hurt like hell.

We took him to the vets, 3 xrays, thorough checks, were done n it was confirmed he has spinal cord damage. Despite this he plays with our doberman, they play football, he literally runs around like a lunatic, you would not think he had the ailment, he jumps up, is very playful and extremely alert. Now I got a question my mums dog he is a chow chow I guess hes always had a bit of a limp since he was a puppy but it just seems like its gotten worse as the years pass he is 7 now I always thought maybe its hip dysplasia but I just don't know. Hes been on gabapentin from the vet 1 in morning and 1 at night but I got my mum to try the 95% curcumin for night time. Problem has been his left back foot wants to turn inwards I don't know how long to try the 95% curcumin for or change to something different?

My almost 16 y/o Lab mix (and I!) both get a lot of pain relief from DMSO at a 50%-70% concentration. All you have to do is wet the skin over the affected area, and it absorbs on its own To get beneath thick fur, you can use an applicator bottle for hair color, the kind with a nozzle. DMSO also helps relieve swelling, which is another benefit for spinal issues. I always get DMSO at 99.99% purity. It costs a little more but the reduction in odor is worth it.

If there's no adverse side effects then adding some lions mane to your large breed's diet should potentially function as a preventative and potentially just beneficial for development overall right? I'd imagine it'd be better to avoid getting it (edit*: DM and DP) rather than treating it after the fact.

I'm sorry doc, but Degenerative Myelopathy is the wasting away of the myelin sheath and there is no way to regain nerve function once it's been affected. Unlike a disc issue pressing on a nerve causing similar motor problems like knuckling and proprioception, in those cases relieving pressure on the nerves early enough abd the nerves can regenerate. Not so with DM. The sheath gets holes in it like Swiss cheese and doesn't grow back. Another thing you said that is concerning is your dog wad "diagnosed with DM". There's no DM diagnosis, only a presumptive diagnosis. The only way to diagnose DM is post mortem in a necropsy.. examination of the spinal cord and other tissue is the only way to know for sure. You can rule out other similar spinal or nerve issues but I know enough about it and GSDs to know what is presumably DM or HD or IVDD etc..
Im dealing with a possible cuada equina issue with my current GSD but she Aldo has HD, so I'm trying to help my vet narrow things down

I just read something that says dm is diagnosed by testing for a gene. But yeah, that does not sound like you would know for sure unless you autopsied. Because my father died from MS, im always hopeful when i hear nerve growth is possible. While already affected myelin is not able to regenerate, could new nerves grow and connect elsewhere with unaffected myelin connections?
