  • This is my 2003 dodge ram 1500 with a 5.7 hemi engine. I just bought 3 days ago and didnt know anything about it. Until i notice it had no gas at all. Changing the spark plugs makes a big difference. Performance and better gas mileage. Before replacing them. I was getting 10mpg. Now im getting 14.7mpg. Much better. And more power.

    Man, I cant thank you enough for sharing this video. My son called me last night at midnight saying his Ram wouldn't start. He told me he had 1/8 of a tank of gas and his computer told him he still had 40 miles worth of gas. Today after work, I showed up with 5 gallons of gas and the truck started right up. I added a can of Seafoam to the 5 gallons and got the truck back to the house and did a hot soak with Seafoam spray. After that, we went and filled his tank. He has learned his lesson about running his truck so low on gas. THANKS AGAIN!

    i had a 03 ram 5.7 hemi....spark plugs suck on that thing! i do believe the gauges have small stepper motors that control the gauge needles. i replaced some on a 2005 Chevy cavalier once. years ago i worked at an AutoZone and a customer came in with an older Buick car. he had taken a taxi to the store, i got him his parts then i was off work, drove him to his car to help out, helped him replace some sensors but nothing helped the gas gauge said it was full i crawled under listened to the pump as be turned the key on. i tapped the tank it was bone dry! he walked across the street and bought a gas can and some gas. started right up. as my automotive instructors always told me K.I.S.S.
    Keep It Simple Stupid! best advice i ever received

    Just to let you know, a half of a quarter, is one eighths. Or half of 1/4 is 1/8, but you seem like you can clean an engine compartment nicely, very clean!

    Wifeys truck did the same so changed the mass air flow sensor and the pcv valve … it worked for us and blue smoke stopped … if you gap just a tad bit extra better fuel economy and HP response was awesome

    You can not check fuel by pushing the schrader valve on the fuel rail. Even if fuel came out does not mean you have pressure, you need a pressure tester. And that was a map sensor not a mass air flow. Good for you that you found the problem and it was an easy fix. You will need to get to the tank and replace the fuel level sensor to get it right though

    • @pwalms65
      @pwalms65 5 років тому

      Why not just use an 1/8 of a tank an/or 40 miles left to go as your new "empty"?

    • @joehyundaitech7961
      @joehyundaitech7961 3 роки тому

      steve hi you hit it right on the head man he needs to check the fuel level sensor. not throw spark plugs at it.. and keep more gas in his tank the gauge is parable fine

    That was one of the suggestions that i had either pump gas or computer i also have a dodge 1998 which i love much and had to change those two this but if u can give it a good tune up maybe the gaa pump is staring to miss or the cable gauge

    also keep in mind if you have a loose wire, just adding gas may not be the fix, your wire could be making a good connection again at the time and you might find that you'll have the problem again later, so be ready for another break down

    I also ran in this problem and still trying to figure out, i have a 07 chrysler 300c 5.7 hemi and m’y car died 3 times already… once was when i was with my friends and the car just shut off on a red light but luckily i was able to started back over. second time was when i got home n it died there idling. that time it didn’t start back up at all… after some thinking we just put some gas in the car for luck even tho we tought it wouldn’t need it because the fuel gauge said a little less than 1/4 tank full but guess what, the car started right up. finally the third time was when my father took it for a drive and it died again… once again it died when the tank said it was just a little under 1/4 tank full…. we tried starting the car without putting fuel n it wouldn’t start…. but once again, once we added just a little bit of fuel. started back up… i have a weird feeling it has something with my fuel pump assembly like the leveler thing or it could be the hole fuel pump assembly idk

    If truck has been running just fine , its a possibility [no guarantee] to disconnect NEG battery terminal for a couple of minutes to reset computer to default. Then reconnect.

    there are 2 relays and 2 fuses to check and a wire down in the engine compartment to check. also if the crank position sensor is bad the fuel pump won't come on for more than a second. usually if it tries to start for a second and cuts off, it's that circuit that has a problem.

    I recently had a problem on my 2004 model. I'm starting to think the engine computer was designed by Microsoft.
    In other words, when encountering a problem the solution is to close all of the windows, shut off the car, restart it, and reopen the windows before you continue driving.
    Mine is back to working, but I'm not sure exactly what I did to make it work again. :(

    I just had this problem with my 2004 Durango, I did have a quarter tank but put two more gallons of Gas but I wasn't that Lucky. A new months ago I also had a problem with what at the time I thought was the Throttle body, I was driving then it suddenly turned off but then It started up again. It happened again when I was showing off That Hemi power on the road, suddenly it felt like the throttle body was acting up again. Then two weeks after I came outside and started up my Truck then it shut off and didn't start anymore, it just cranked and cranked. Turns out My Fuel Pump went out, but I replaced it without dropping the tank.

    ok i work at a dodge ram dealer you want to fix this problem don't let your fuel tank go below 1/2 tank problem solved veh fixt keep it simple just don't though parts at it spark plugs are no going to cause the problem that you were having . the truck did not have enough fuel in it to keep running maybe your fuel gauge is not working correctly you need to have that checked you also need to learn how to read your gauge and your gauge reads just above a 1/4 of a tank done

    Hi, I´ve the some problem wont start my Dodge Durango 2008 5.7 Hemi. Car stop suddentlty, fuel on 1/2. fuel pump was not working. I changed fuel pump(it come out with some parts broquen), by a short Chrysler fuel pump. find out no negative to fuel pump i fixed that and engine starts working. but on next day problem came back. So a replaced de 16 spurks and problem still, I read on google and I´ve tried just turn the ignition key to the "ON" position without cranking the engine over three times then, On the forth time crank the engine over and starts right up. So my question is do I have a weak fuel pump? Or other things happen?
