    Give me one good reason why I shouldn't love Earl of St. Germans as much as I still do. She makes a much better sound with her new sound decoder, music to my ears. Even though Cookham Manor comes out on top above her, Earl of St. Germans is just as beautiful-looking I admit. Happy steaming. As you can see, it's not all doom and gloom. Glad you got your appointment fixed. I have a bit of bad news myself. My AF has come back, so it means I have to go to Liverpool Hospital at some stage. Don't be alarmed, it's not like I need major surgery or anything. But when Cookham Manor and Earl of St. Germans strut their stuff for me, I'm always left with a cheerful grin on my face. Hats off to you, Robert. I'm not just saying that.

      Cheers Robert.

    The tracks are very nicely ballasted
    I also like the points motor
    Because of the noise, I think that your board is reflecting the noise like that

      Hi Christian,
      Cheers for watching and your very nice comments and yes the construction I used on this may well be acting as a sound board but it is what it is I will live with it.
      Cheers Robert.

    Hi Robert. Before embarking on any rewiring, I would try a different decoder in each loco. I have a Jinty that buzzed and growled, I fitted a Lenz decoder and that cured it. Really enjoy your videos. Regards, Pete.

      Hi Peter,
      Thanks for watching and your very nice comments and one of the things I hate doing is opening up a loco if it is running ok so its making a bit of a noise if it runs then I will live with it but I am doing tests on this layout to see if its anything to do with the noises. I am please you are enjoying my video's it helps make all the time and money invested in the railway etc seem worth it.
      Cheers Robert.

    Hi Robert - It is frustrating when locos fail and hopefully the Rapido one is fixed/replaced and also you now have a reliable decoder in the Earl of St Germains . Most importantly you are moving forwards with the hospital treatment and hoping that all goes well.
    Cheers Kev

      Hi Kev,
      Yes yet to hear about the Rapido but as Kelly still loves the Earl of St. Germans all is well so thanks for watching and your very nice comments. Yes its nice to know you do not have to wait years to get treatment on the NHS so I will just have to see if having it removed is it or not.
      Cheers Robert.

      Cheers for watching and your very nice comments pleased you enjoyed it and I am hoping to sort out the problems with the noise from these locos if I can. You to have a nice W/E.

    Hi Robert i would say two things, 1 it could be the track downstairs is glued down and upstairs it isn't i believe, so i think that has something to do with it maybe, 2 the niose sounds abit like dc the wire you use was i think 1.5 solid core wire, i believe that low voltage, amps only travels around the outside of the solid core were multi thin core there more wire carrying the low volts, amps to the track.
    With Lodi and itrain you use the same multi core wire with about 15 strands of wire inside to make a wire, to loop each Lodi booster which detects the trains i can have 63 in a row then each booster detector feeds 8 blocks which is 504 blocks using the same wire that is so there is a good connection to the track.
    I don't know if that helps.
    Glad you've got appointment for your skin. Colin

      Hi Colin,
      Thank you for watching and your very nice and informative comments. So I have done a few tests here for the next video and my thinking is that the baseboard contruction is acting like a speaker encloser magnifying the sound these make and the reason it is so much quiter in the loft is that it is layed on 16mm contiboard and is open underneath as well as only pinned down were as the end to end is only 9mm MDF and a sandwich with only 15mm gap between. I think the Manor is worse because it only has a 3 pole motor and the Jinty is a very old design as for the twin & earth lighting cable that I used only for the buzz wires do you think changing it would help ( a lot of work) or just live with the sounds that are only at very low speeds ???
      Cheers Robert.

      @@robertstrainset6556 Hi Robert, I would maybe live with it and I would ballast that bit to the station because I think it will change the niose again and maybe for the better. When I was in the other shed I had 3 different sounds, one when the track was stuck down with double sided tap, two some was stuck with glue and one side was ballast and to be far the ballast was the best. And for me if it is the echoing take the bottom board off and just sit it on the frame and it maybe better to let the sound get out, then screw down or up through the frame that's what I would do if it was me. Colin

    Hi Robert .Check to see if you have the right amount of ampage. i heard the same type of thing on DC layouts .Try and compare between the two layouts. as well as voltages.
    Just an idea Robert.

      @robertstrainset6556  2 місяці тому +1

      Hi Allan,
      I am fearful that the wiring on this which is just what I had available may be the cause as the Hornby Railmaster/elink worked fine on the loft one so if my tester will do the ampage I will check as for the volts the same tester only shows about 10 volts ac but it also only shows about 11 in the loft so hopefully it is the amps and a rewire may be needed??? I as always thank you for watching and your helpful and very nice comments. Hope you are all keeping well there and not to wet.
      Cheers Robert.

    Hi Robert if it's not one thing it's another. Sorry can't help with the noise problem it does seem strange. The only thing that did cross my mind was is the curve after the point a bit tight or pinched in some way. I've got rid of most of my hornby decoders they just don't seem up to the job, cheers for now Andy

      Hi Andy,
      Thanks for watching and your very nice comments. I am beginning to think that its to do with my wiring so I am going to do a few things to see if I am right and make a video if it helps sort it. My Hornby decoders work well nearly all the time so I am happy with them if I was starting now it would be different but it is what it is.
      Cheers Robert.

    from what i can hear on decent headphone's, the noise seems to be created quite normally by the wheel but is amplified and re verbing on the end to end by the board you have used to enclose the underneath, try running the same experiment with the bottom board removed.

      @robertstrainset6556  2 місяці тому

      Hi,
      Yes what you say is probably right but as for running without the bottom board fitted is a no go so will have to put up with it. Cheers for watching and your very nice and helpful comments we all make mistakes do we not but I did have reasons for designing the B/B this way at the beginning.
      Cheers Robert.

    Inclined to think as others have suggested, it sounds like low power on dc. I would check if there's a setting on your controller or power pack.

      Hi Roy,
      Thanks for watching and your very nice comments and the Hornby railmaster/elink system with its 4 amp transformer is what it is and worked fine on the loft one before iTrains came along so fear it maybe my wiring at fault.
      Cheers Robert.

    Listening to it, it sounds like PWM on DC. I know you are running DCC. I wonder if your downstairs end to end layout controller is using a form of PWM.

      @robertstrainset6556  2 місяці тому

      Hi Duncan,
      The controller I am using is the same one as I used on the loft railway until I went the iTrains route so I agree it does sound a bit like the old DC locos more thought needed as to why it sounds this way I think. Cheers anyway for watching and your very nice and helpfull comments.
      Cheers Robert.

      Hi Andy,
      No the Hornby Railmaster/elink that I used to use so it may just be the construction of the baseboard that is acting like a soundboard magnifying the sounds the locos make???I thank you for watching and your very nice comments. No Anthony tonight it will be about 6am downunder a little early I would say.
      Cheers Robert.

      @@hotdogpilot6319 Thanks for the reply and no I think its maybe something to do with my wiring and the Manor is bad as its only a 3 pole motor so I will do some tests to see if changing the wiring will help it will at least make another video for everyone.
