I watched the Don Coffey video you mentioned in the last video - it really shows how well your model has captured the essence of Hadfield, and indeed Dinting. Fabulous modelling! And what an oddity the 'triangle' of lines to Hadfield and Glossop and the route back to Piccadilly is… which I guess is why you wanted to model it😊
Thank you so much, glad you like it. The branchline was an afterthought. Id already built New Mills Ctrl but was left with this awkward section, when someone suggested a return loop Hadfield and Glossop. Thats where it all began around a couple of years ago, or so.

Please dont worry about commenting Robert, so lovely to hear from you when youre able. The station section is complete, just need to glue the buffer stop in place. Not been able to fit station lights as I discovered I havent got any. So might be able to get some for Glossop and fit bothe together, as the whole unit is removeable. If fact it could be a layout all of its own.
Brilliant as always John! Your impressionist approach to the backscene is bang on the money. It blends perfectly your detailed foreground with the world beyond. Totally realistic. When we look into the distance we see the overall impression not the detail. Your approach totally works!
Having just seen the Sir John Lavery exhibition at the Scottish Royal Academy I am all for impressionism. I think the back scene looks great particularly once you get the foliage in. A good solution to fixing the catenery masts as always. Stephen

Thanks Ian, so glad ypu like it. I believe where backscenes are concerned its important to show the scene in layers. The model, middle scene, ie whats directly behind the model then the far distance. You can do more layers but 3 is sufficient.
Hi John I learnt a fair bit from your explanation on how you made your back scene which has come out well as the track level shots shows. Those overhead supports are not the catenary. They are just that-supports. The catenary is the topmost of the 3 wires (catenary, auxiliary catenary, and contact wire) that run between them, it takes its name from the shape it assumes. Nice to see a potentially economical and quick way to make them. But please do an old member of Woodhead traincrew justice, lol!
Hi yes I know. Sometimes, when filming, it can be tricky to get everything 100% correct. When you’ve shot something a dozen or more times because what you’ve said does not make sense, to let a little slip go is more of a relief and not the end of the world. Dear John, love the last shots, awesome how you did the backdrop painting. Only slight thing on the roof of the goods shed (pardon me I just call it that). For my humble eyes that roof line is a bit too high. The lines for the building’s extension sort of pull it down towards the perspective of the street. Considering the side view of this particular building you’ve shown, there’s that other construction behind it, slightly askew positioned, which seems just a tiny bit higher. Think it will pay off to introduce that particular roof line as it puts in a ‘relation’ between the lines on the right hand side of the disappearing street, and define the height of the goods shed. Of course, it is your backdrop, so please disregard my comment when you’re completely satisfied with the results as it is now. This comment just as a suggestion, no hassle, maybe even it’s just my askew eyes being too sensitive. Also, because you said you will put in some large trees in front of the goods shed, that may just be the best solution. Seriously think the extra space for the catenary posts makes a ton of difference. They describe the scene perpendicular to the backdrop and further emphasize the apparent view lines. Less wide versions would indeed shorten the view. Absolutely love the trees, especially the kind of bent one, simply beautiful what only a few brush strokes can create. Please don’t take my words too hard, it’s just what I observed, and felt it valuable enough to share it with you. Cheerio
Hi Vincent, I do understand what you mean. However, the main warehouse has a very wide and low pitched roof, as shown. This building is around 6-7 times wider than the station building. Ofc off scene. The extension is a lot lower with the pitch at 90*. There are 2 tall whispy trees in front of this building, so you can still see it, but it is somewhat hidden.
Hi, Sorry to put a spoke in to your lovely back scene. But if memory serves me right Hadfield station backs on to the High Street. Coming up at a 90 degree angle to the station buildings. The is a small square just behind the station building. Well if memory serves me right it is a small triangle pavement with the war memorial on it to the left hand side. There should be more roofs for the houses and shops of Hadfield that you mainly see.
Thank you for you comment Gerard, but please take a look at Google maps, there are many houses behind the station carpark, not forgetting the trees, which grow btw, lol (you get to station through a small entrance off Hadfield Road). Hi, Sorry you are quite right. It is Station Road. When you come out of the station opposite on the left is the war memorial and I think it was the library. On the right was a pub. I cannot remember the name of it as it is over 20 years since I was last in it. High Street is the main road through Glossop. Also known as the A57.
Thank you for your apology. Please remember Gerard this is an interpretation. The areas you outline, yes are there, true, but beyond the station. I could spend many, many hours creating each building with high accuracy for it to detract from the model. If you take a high quality photograph, the focus is on the subject and the background is blurred, that’s what I aim for.

Im adding the foliage as I type, then itll be fitting the board onto the layout and blend it in. Worry not about keeping up, watch when youre ready.
