Cognitive behavioral therapy saved my life!! I started therapy with 10 years of built up anxiety and after 9 months of cognitive behavior therapy I was like a brand new person!! Haven't had a panic attack in forever

Best video so far in CBT. I practiced this “self therapy” through the toughest times of my life and to me the most important step was FOCUS ON WHAT YOU HAVE CONTROL IVER IT, and do something about it, loosing my mind over things I didn’t have control over it was just pushing me down and making me feel worst (really stupid if you look it up from outside, in my opinion). Take car you’all and use your mind wisely

Everything sucks to a certain degree, people will never fully understand you, and you’re really irrelevant in this life just like everyone else. I know it sounds odd but that is the realest starting point, and it only gets better from there. You can be doing everything right and the closest people to you will tell you otherwise. Just try going with the flow, doing what feels right, and don’t beat yourself up when u get sad/mad/angry etc. It’s normal and it’s usually the best time for us to grow 🌱

CBT - something that we can use to change a negative cycle. It can work & is a process of challenging your thought - Is the thought real? What evidence do you have the thought is real? Can we change the negative thought to a helpful thinking style? - example: Believing others don't like us can make someone feel upset & hurt, and our behavior is to get upset, angry or to lash out.... But what if our thought was not based on a FACT! If it's just based on a feeling (feelings aren't fact - feelings don't last - feelings change) Instead of believing something negative, trying to change the thought by CHALLENGING that thought (not every negative thought is real or false- hence we challenge it) Once we challenge a negative thought & discover if it's real, - if not real, we can put in the process of trying to change how we react. (we can only control our own actions & reactions- We cannot control how others act or react) Negative thoughts are often automatic & this takes practices, but it does work. We can also change how we act & react to real situations, how we think & address these by using CBT
When i have to speak or do something in front of a group of people my hands starts shaking and sometimes my voice too ... I don't have any Idea what to do..😟
Believe in yourself! You’re an amazing human being with great ideas and thoughts to share, always remember that, you’re special whether you think so or not.
Too much alone time and being away from people for a long time can mess up their mental health. Hope CBT and other types of behavior therapy can help change their thinking and behavior.
My best friend has been through horrible trauma. She needs CBT but she claims it doesn't work for her. She claims she goes to therapy regularly but I know she's not. The person has to be willing. I'm afraid she'll never get better.
Honestly, CBT is not the best option for people with a lot of trauma. CBT is loved by insurance companies. That should tell you something. It sounds like your friend needs a deeper, more nuanced approach to therapy. It might be more supportive for you to trust your friend rather than judge her because you think you know what she needs.
CBT is insurance-covered professional invalidation for a lot of deeply complex systemic issues people face in my experience. Mental health is similar to physical health, but constant "you're not thinking clearly" etc feels flat out downplaying for those with nuanced issues that you can't just talk out of. Patient blaming only stigmatizes therapy and mental health even more in my opinion.
@@NoRegerts I would say Psychodynamics is a good place to start. Internal Family Systems could also be helpful. Somatics as well. I would also suggest doing a lot of reading. Find good books about developmental trauma as well as shock trauma.

I’m here to chat if anybody needs help ⭐️
A childhood friend who became a Psychology Professor told me that CBT would work wonders for my phobias (not comfortable stating which ones I have). I read several articles online, & it sounded scary and expensive. And I was afraid that, if it didn't work, I'd want to kick myself for the rest of my Life for having wasted so much money, money I could have spent on alcohol or other things that help me cope.
@@doms5755 Bought a DVD set on CBT shortly after I posted. The third lecture told me that I needed to do a "Personal Inventory." I shut it down right there & keep forgetting to throw that waste of money in the trash. Never told my Psychologist friend. Certain she would rip on me. I just didn't need the additional aggravation.
@@doms5755 Never even Heard of it until you mentioned it. Here's what I found: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) encourages people to embrace their thoughts and feelings rather than fighting or feeling guilty for them. It may seem confusing at first, but ACT paired with mindfulness-based therapy offers clinically effective treatment. It doesn't sound like something that I believe would work for me. I don't believe it addresses my Situation. That said, I do appreciate the suggestion. I can say I learned something today, thanks to you. Cheers and All Best!
No offense but it sounds like you really wouldn't try anything and is more comfortable getting drunk and being sad till you eventually die?? If I'm wrong please correct me because if there is a chance something will work even if it's small why not take it?? It took me years to try something until I finally found what works for me. And those years was very very very painful and sad but it was worth it. Nothing just happens
As someone who loves the study of pharmacology, I am all too aware that there are only one family of medicines which are extremely effective in relieving all your symptoms of anxiety within the first 30 mins of the first dose, (the Benzodiazepines) but of course, they are unfeasible due to the development of tolerance and addiction. Shame because they even have a safety profile which is attractive. They replaced the Barbiturates in 1950s, which were equally as effective, but which did have a narrow therapeutic index. The minimum effective dose was close to the minimum lethal dose.

Easier said than done especially when the person you love is going through it ! Finding a good therapist is monumental ! It’s also incredibly expensive! What if the person needs CBT and they can’t afford it ?
So positive thinking is all it is? Like the break up from a relationship. The answer is I still have my friends and could meet someone else in the future.
It's not just positive thinking. It's challenging thoughts that we have that are not true. All of us have a habit of falling into cognitive distortions and this form of therapy helps us to recognize them and challenge them.
1:36 - 1:45 ? just because it's evidence based, doesn't mean it's automatically more effective more often than whatever alternative whatever... right? there's a gap.. but nah, i'ma just practice more awareness and just... be. have my. self. in the comment section. this is a cool video. i enjoyed the questions.
Symptoms could be same but reasons could be different. Does having hatred towards everything around you specially the way the work, the malice , the cheats , the behind the back hand shake hook ups if all that's the reason why one is here , what is the suggestion for him? Is CBT the right solution for such situations?
I can't answer whether CBT is the right answer for such problems, but psychologists are taught to tailor-made each interventions to help the clients. They will decide which intervention is best for you basd on your problems. That's why therapies such as CBT is done by professionals. Hope this helps!

You know what we can do. We can take time. We can take moment and then apologise ourself. We can take a moment and apologise for something wrong we did in past to others. We can take accountability for a past and do that. These things doesnt go away, doesnt lift for most of the people. It something they still have to wrestle. It doesn't go away. Think the same, rationalisation seems forcing myself to think in a particular way which actually does not change the feeling (depression, sadness, lack of motivation anxiety) and in a way creates resistance and hence a battle begins. I don't understand this thought process of people. You KNOW that YOUR life is shaped by YOUR choices, right? I know life isn't always easy, but YOU can make better choices to make it better, right?
If you actually understood CBT you'd be saying something more like "I haven't found anything that helps as of yet" but you wouldn't be saying "meds don't help" - in other words you wasted two years by not listening on day one.
What about having PTSD with memory loss which the recommendation is CBT. This wont help when your amblagada fear center part of your brain is overactive and you Hippocampus is shruken.

@@devinwatkins8953 yeah you’re right in that sense & honestly I wasn’t trying to discredit the method entirely. It’s just that people like to believe that the answers to their questions are somewhere out there but in reality it’s within. The more adversity/uncomfortable situations the better, as long as you’re looking for your flaws in order to work on them consistently. This is what builds mental strength & confidence overtime. It’s a less talk more do kinda of formula
Me too. Im a pessimist and i know that CBT wont work with me. I always see things negatively. I never really see a positive side to something. No matter how much positive energy someone gives me, it doesn't change anything at all. That's how i am. Thats my personality. I hate it but i somehow have to live with it. I have contamination OCD btw.
No, that is not what CBT is. Both of your comments are examples of negative feedback loops which CBT helps to address. Saying "I'm just a pessimist" or "this won't work for me" is simply excuse making.
ADHD and comorbid depression has to be treated a bit differently than either one alone, but any dexmethylphenidate medication (Like Focalin or to a lesser extent Ritalin) is a good first-line treatment to discuss with your doctor if you have both ADHD and depression. Also exercise makes a wildly huge difference. My totally unprofessional 2 cents is to look into a boxing/jiuitsu gym or a yoga class or a kayaking class or a dance class or something that requires both strength/stamina AND sustained focus, and you will see some improvement in your mood and attention after a week or two. There's some solid psych lit on that. Good luck
Thank you for your comment. The NAMI National Warmline Directory is a great resource, unlike a hotline for those in immediate crisis, warmlines provide early intervention with emotional support that can prevent a crisis - and a more costly 911 call or ER visit. The lines are typically free, confidential peer-support services staffed by volunteers or paid employees who have experienced mental health conditions themselves.
I love CBT
When i have to speak or do something in front of a group of people my hands starts shaking and sometimes my voice too ... I don't have any Idea what to do..😟
Believe in yourself! You’re an amazing human being with great ideas and thoughts to share, always remember that, you’re special whether you think so or not.

This book pairs well with the mindfulness workbook "The Days to Reduce Depression" by Corin Devaso.
@@Jacob1451_Kapnobatai I couldn't agree with you more. Yes. So much yes

Good short description of CBT.
How it go?
@@doms5755 Bought a DVD set on CBT shortly after I posted. The third lecture told me that I needed to do a "Personal Inventory." I shut it down right there & keep forgetting to throw that waste of money in the trash. Never told my Psychologist friend. Certain she would rip on me. I just didn't need the additional aggravation.
@@domjervis have you tried ACT therapy?
@@doms5755 Never even Heard of it until you mentioned it. Here's what I found:
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) encourages people to embrace their thoughts and feelings rather than fighting or feeling guilty for them.
As someone who loves the study of pharmacology, I am all too aware that there are only one family of medicines which are extremely effective in relieving all your symptoms of anxiety within the first 30 mins of the first dose, (the Benzodiazepines)
but of course, they are unfeasible due to the development of tolerance and addiction.

It's the little things that matter. Having a positive mindset goes a very long way!
It's not just positive thinking. It's challenging thoughts that we have that are not true. All of us have a habit of falling into cognitive distortions and this form of therapy helps us to recognize them and challenge them.
So I’ll take like being optimistic & or fixing the bad thought with something good?
1:36 - 1:45 ? just because it's evidence based, doesn't mean it's automatically more effective more often than whatever alternative whatever... right? there's a gap.. but nah, i'ma just practice more awareness and just... be. have my. self. in the comment section.

Think the same, rationalisation seems forcing myself to think in a particular way which actually does not change the feeling (depression, sadness, lack of motivation anxiety) and in a way creates resistance and hence a battle begins. Thinking if psychotherapy is a good option.

CBT is nothing more than “cause and effect” analytical thinking in hermetics.

Why was I in the middle of watching this when I got distracted by thinking about something completely different? 😂
Can you suggest books?
So basically just "think positive"? Too bad that I have always been a pessimist and wouldn't be able to lie to myself like that.
Saying "I'm just a pessimist" or "this won't work for me" is simply excuse making.
it's actually not lying to yourself. It's seeing reality instead of negative thought process.

@Глеб Воронин What if I don't love Israel?
Good luck
