  • How to use a Bivvy loo as a slow cooker.
In the old days people used to slow cook food using a box packed with straw around a hot pan. We are going to use materials that we already have with us in the campervan to pack around a pot using the Bivvy Loo as the overall container.
If the thought of this grosses you out then please don’t watch the video as we like to travel light and use objects for multiple purposes.
This worked great for us but use it at your own risk.
If your food is not kept hot then there is a risk of bacteria growing which could make you seriously ill. On your first try test it after an hour to make sure that it’s still steaming hot.
It occurs to me that using one of those hot hand pouches in the base of the Bivvy Loo could provide additional heating which might prevent the need for extra boosting on the gas ring. Sadly being summer I didn’t have ours with us to give this a try.

I have a cooking recipe you can use while driving. We use to do this when on long trips in northern Canada. In aluminum foil add raw hamburger, cubed raw potatoes, canned peas and carrots and dry French onion soup mix. Wrap it up tight and add a 2nd layer of aluminum foil then pack it on the outside of the vans exhaust manifold make sure it's tight in there and won't fall out if you hit bumps. After about a 2-3 hour trip stop and pull the package out of the exhaust manifold make sure you use oven mitts and open and enjoy a hot fully cooked meal.

Great idea! I know some people cook their oatmeal, or other grains, in a thermos - so, same principle. We have a little oven that looks like an old-fashioned lunch box. It plugs into the 12 volt outlet and cooks at about 300 degrees F. This is faster than a slow cooker, but slower than a regular oven. It's lovely to have a hot meal ready when you arrive at a campsite, especially if it's a cool day.

It works perfectly fine without the bivy loo part. My mum always used to cook the rice in bed. Same principle. Heat until boiling, then wrap in cotton kitchen/bathtowel. Cotton is more heat resistant and in case anything spills... the wrap in the bed covers and wedge with cushions if necessary. Work the same.

I knew it would work.....I have used a similar method to cook corned beef....but minus the bivvy loo.
After I prepare the corned beef, I wrap the saucepan containing the corned beef in some big cotton towels & an old chenille bedspread.
Prepare in the morning....eat in the evening.

So you cooked a pork chop on the stove, added some canned vegetables (which were already cooked), wrapped it up in blankets and stuck it in your toilet for seven hours? And then stuck it back on the stove again to warm it up? Seems like you could have just eaten it after you cooked it on the the first time.

Green beans were raw. Browning meat is not cooking it. We reheated it only because we checked it was working. Stuck it back on the stove to heat the rice which was added cold. Your observation skills need some work but thanks for trying.
