New Ford GT review - attacking the Arctic Circle Raceway in Ford's Supercar | evo REVIEW

  • It would be all-too easy to introduce Ford’s new £450,000 supercar with endless references to yesteryear - because we all know where the story for the Ford GT began. Henry Ford tries to buy Ferrari to win at Le Mans in the 1960s, Enzo says get stuffed, Henry builds his own version of a Ferrari to do the job instead - called the GT40 - and puts one right up Enzo, the end.
    Or, in fact, just the very beginning for the Ford GT as things would turn out.
    Except there’s an intriguing new story doing the rounds about the birth of the latest Ford GT, and it only came to light at the car’s launch recently in the US. Because initially Ford wasn't going to build a new GT at all, it seems. Instead it wanted to return to Le Mans with a Mustang, and to then create a road car on the back of the racing project to market the Mustang globally.

      Very pretty indeed.
      However personally I don't think they even need to make videos with this high production values.
      I mean couple of videos with this caliber vs more proper reviews with less expense and I think I would prefer the latter. Also I think the actual technical content was little thin apart from eye candy.

      Flying a drone around and adding some classical music on top of the shots for 50% of the video is production value? Ok then.

    Epic footage! - Epic Car. A lot of negative bias towards American cars over the years - some justified and some not - Surely this GT does not deserve hard criticism but appraise for being a non compromise super sports car - Nearly everybody has been talking about low weight, getting rid of Hybrid systems and make no nonsense driver cars - This is exactly what the GT is. And it is also an immensely successful exterior design that combines full contemporary Aero and deep carved styling while maintaining clear DNA signatures from the Ford GT heritage.

    • @Dolby109
      @Dolby109 6 років тому

      Personally I think it would be criticized a lot less if Ford hadn't gone bat shit crazy with the pricing. It's a great car, but it's a hard sell to pay $450k for a Ford, esp with a V6 engine that shares all too many components with a truck, or Flex.

    • @arkhsm
      @arkhsm 6 років тому +1

      Such a hard sell,,,that they are making double the amount, to to quell some of the unhappy folk who missed out on one,,,,haha !!

    • @Alby911
      @Alby911 6 років тому +5

      The only problem with the car is the way Ford treated their loyal customers. Many die-hard Ford collectors missed out on the GT to likes of UA-camr's and celebrities.

    • @Dolby109
      @Dolby109 6 років тому

      Ford should have made 10 times what they did. Then the selling price could have been a lot more reasonable, they wouldn't have pissed off loyal wealthy customers, and they wouldn't have had to force reviewers to treat them like fine china, and not allow actual laps.

    • @Dolby109
      @Dolby109 6 років тому

      If sales of the Ford GT were bad it was probably because people were like "not paying $150k for a Ferd!". So naturally Ford's response was to make the new GT $450k.

    This is what beautiful to me. When you see the connection between the car and the nature or when you see a supercar is surrounded by the nature & it reflects with how beautiful the car personality in the nature. Bright supercar in the middle and the landscape is wherever you look, I just call it supercar connection with the nature !!!!

      Came here to say the exact same thing! I’m usually not a fan of watching flying laps since they have zero context for us watching at home… but doing it this way *really painted a picture of the intricate dance that went into creating that lap time. So cool to see!!

    This video just propels you into an exotic time warp where you simply loose count of minutes passed. Every aspect of this video from the cinematic shots to the calm tone of the presenter were amazing & of course the star of the show, the worthy successor of the legendary Ford GT gliding over the tarmac was an absolute joy to watch. Keep up the good work guys, you deserve more recognition.

  • @Glasseh
    @Glasseh 6 років тому +10

    I remember seeing this video from the Ford Europe channel. The audio/video cinematics are great, amazing even.
    I just have issues that Ford chose the Arctic Circle Raceway for this. As it's a fairly unknown track, at least for actual track times. The top 5 cars before the Ford GT took the crown?
    Audi R8 4.2 FSI Quattro (Mk I)
    Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII
    Toyota Celica TS
    Mazda RX-8
    Dodge Ram SRT-10
    Yes. That's a 2,300+ kg heavy truck with the 5th fastest time around that track. And a ~190 hp Celica as the third fastest time.
    I'm not saying that the Ford GT time isn't impressive. I'm saying that Ford really picked the low-hanging fruit when they choose this track to run it at.

    The lap record was set by a Mk1 Audi R8 with a 4.2 V8... Put a modern sports car on that track and give us some context. Ford probably found a track with crummy records to protect their darling GT.

    • @mjmont92
      @mjmont92 6 років тому

      Joel Schembri Agreed. That R8 is over 10 years old at this point and was never meant to be an all out track machine. They had the GT on a track in Canada and it beat a 675 LT by 1 second and a 458 by 2 seconds. But the drivers were unknown and those are the only records the track recorded.

    • @mjmont92
      @mjmont92 6 років тому

      Joel Schembri Definitely agree there as well. But the 488 is a good $100,000 less expensive than the GT and isn’t supposed to be the “all out race car” that the GT is. I’m disappointed that Ford is playing these silly games. The previous GT was a real honest under dog and people still adore them.

    Beautiful review, and the background music was amazing. Reminded me of the movie Da Vinci Code's music in the latter part of the film.

    this is an amazing review. The crew involved with the cinematography deserve huge praise... the opening alone is mesmerizing... top work boys.
    EDIT: Seriously this review is the best I have ever seen... it is going to be really fucking hard to top this one... you could have thrown a ford mondeo in there, it would still be among the best reviews ever...

    Stunning video!!!
    The soundtrack, presenter, photography, narrative, scenery and, of course, the GT... all come together to make a video that's sure to ignite passion even among non-motorheads...
    If this production is not art at its best, I'm not sure what is!
