- The 207mph Ford GT was Ford's 100 year birthday present to itself. With 550bhp and brilliant dynamics, it was also evo magagazine's car of the year in 2005. Here, I look back to discover why it got built in the first place and what it's like to drive today. Thanks again to The Hairpin Company was allowing me to drive this amazing example they currently have for sale. www.thehairpincompany.co.uk/f...

“Let me go ahead and roast the tires in 1st again” legend
The lil' sound he made, the first time he did it...
Yep a' Don' Petrol Head of the finest order
One of the best colour combinations for the car. The blue with the white stripes
The Red/White stripes shows all the car's beautiful lines and sculpting much better. Most of Ford's promotions including "The One" were done with Red/White striped.
@@RayMelville Red is ok, but blue with white racing stripes are the traditional racing colours of the United States of America. Made iconic by use on the Shelby Cobra's of the 60's, Shelby Mustangs of any era and reminiscent of the colours used on the original 1960's GT40 mk 1 road cars. It has way more motoring history and significance than the red with white stripes. And just looks made for this car. Plus, blue is also the official Ford colour.
Silver and orange. This - gtspirit.com/2012/01/13/the-gt-guy-reveals-custom-ford-gt-merkury-4/ - without the decals.
Is there a bad combination??
Jeremy Clarkson car that one.
The amount of knowledge Harry has to share is incredible.
Nothing you can't Google.
Twobarpsi Wow really? You wouldnt say..
@@drazenbudis7881 yup
@@Twobarpsi Difference is, he doesn't have to.
@@godlyobject6509 you can't see the cue cards, just off camera...
harry is like the david attenborough of cars, he's a legend!
Same age .😊
Except Harry knows his subject.
Harry >>> that moron Clarkson
YOu're right. He's observing supercars in their natural habitat. In a garage.
or... Richard Attenborough... we've spared no expense ....lol
Most UA-cam channels I subscribe to have good videos, and bad videos.
However, it is no overstatement to say that Harry has not a single video I dislike. Pure excitement and enthusiasm, moderated with quintessential British finesse and restraint. Keep ‘end coming forever, Harry.
When it comes to Harry and these videos, "genuine" is the word that comes to mind for me. Always a pleasure to watch.
can't agree more...
Harry did a really great interview with Chris Harris on the Collecting Cars podcast, an amazing story of how he entered the car world and publishing, pure enthusiast.
Absolutely spot on
Couldn't agree more
2:30 that's the happiest little headlight I've ever seen! Amazing!
haha.. thanks for spotting it!
I wondered about that too.
Miata MX-5: "Are you challenging me?"
"It was more economical than an M6" ... Well ... having owned an E60 M5, i can say that the dover to callais ferry is probably more economical than it.
Yep, I have an M6. It's more economical to just pump the fuel directly down the drain. The most I've had is 22mpg, cruising at 70. Been as low as 5 on some fun backroads.
detaart I’ve got an F10 M5 and it’s not much better. The most I’ve ever seen was 29MPG on a 450 mile motorway journey and the worst 9MPG. On my drive to work I’m lucky if I get 19MPG.
„mpg“.... pls feel free to join the rest of the world into the 21. century
KwaPaN Do you think mpg is weird? How about this: American mpg and British mpg are different because the American gallons are smaller. How‘s that for simple, straightforward and well thought out?
Filip Konopacki To make it even more daft, we don’t even use gallons in the UK although we do annoyingly still use miles. I suppose it would cost a fortune to replace all the road signs now.
"and then... *pow*... you hit your head" I love this guy. He is awesome.
Rule number one.... LISTEN TO HARRY.
Did anyone else cringe when he sat in the car and slammed the door shut -- could imagine it had chopped the top of his head off!
@@williamr3840 I did too.
I just bought a 2005 and I absolutely love it. Watching your video reinforced all the reasons that I make this major car decision. Every time I take the cover off in the garage it's truly a thrill. And in case anyone's wondering...yep, I'm going to drive it!
Lucky SOB….
Yeah yeah we all love hotwheels mate
@@jamsstar2010 I'll e mail you a picture of my Hotwheels if you like Mate. It may though look suspiciously like a full sized Ford GT.
@@paulliberato689 GOTEEM! 😆
@@paulliberato689my 2005 GT looks suspiciously like a giant pile of parts, but that's because I haven't put it together yet 😂
You have Camilo Pardo to thank for no luggage space. Completely unwilling to sacrifice looks for practicality. And I'm glad he was
This is SO MUCH more desirable than the new GT imo, it's so perfect
I think so too and also a bargain in comparison
@@harrysgarage It sure is! Thanks for the reply Harry.
@@harrysgarage Gotta review the new one first Harry! I want to hear your opinion of it 😁
I would take the new but this is very nice. To each his own
it is, indeed.
Love the speedo over on the right, almost as an afterthought! "Let's see... Engine temperature, revs, oil pressure, battery voltage, boost pressure, fuel... Feels like we're missing something... 🤔"
Mid engined, manual, no traction control, great sound. Right up my street!
The ABS brakes are all you really need!
I don't think the styling of this car will ever grow old!! Pardo did such a stellar job. Great review Harry.
15:13, that engine roaring sound gave me goosebumps
The EcoBoost based V6 sounds really shit in the new one.
"conversation stopping muscle on show" i like that
Great video man. If I ever become a millionaire, I'll keep that head bump avoidance procedure in mind.
Mmm gorgeous Ford GT. Ford got that car spot on for its centennial
Have your luggage sent on.
I can't express how happy I was to see THIS car on THIS channel. Without reservation, my favorite road car ever made and now with Harry behind the wheel to add his thoughts. Brilliant. There's so much to this car, it was nice to see one on the channel. And the perfect color combo as well (midnight blue/white stripes)! Thanks so much for this, Harry.
Harry, you’re still one of the best. I absolutely love your reviews because you know the cars so well and you elucidate that knowledge beautifully.
Harry,I could watch you review interesting cars all day long, your knowledge, passion.Intrigue,is infectious.
Thanks,keep those video's coming.......
Harry is the best car reviewer. Educated, and knowledgeable.
Love the dash and the way the gear leaver leans towards the driver. Great video Harry, made my day.
I follow you since EVO magazine arrived in Italy in the 90's. What a spectacular magazine! seeing you in person chatting about cars on you tube is almost like having a friend. A friend who can speak about cars in such an exquisite and competent way that you really want to answer him... :-) The way you explain the opening doors "problem" is exhilarating and real at the same time.
Yes! One of my all time favorites, gorgeous car.
Fantastic car, great to see Harry enthuse about it.
The only shocking thing is the criminal low mileage put on it on all those years :(
Literally the phrase i used. Low milers should be punished!
Check the MOT history of ones shown in this video...
Totally agree. Why buy this and not drive it. A sunny day car certainly but hard to resist on those 4 days a year.
I am in America, my neighbor has the same spec as this one in the video, original owner and he drives his to work almost daily in the summer. It's maybe 5 miles roundtrip, but that adds up over the years, not including other driving and trips.
The GT is probably thankfull to Harry (as we all are) to being driven!
I love that smiley face at 2:27 inside the headlight. :)
Seeing a notification for a new Harry video review is the best thing that happens in your day
Absolutely. Looks like I'll be late for work this morning.
One of my favorite YT channels. A gentleman and a true car guy. +1 to you, sir.
With Shmee touting the merits of the latest Ford GT, it's good to see this forerunner. Have a sneaking preference for this earlier version. Love the dashboard. Looks like a real sports car and not one sanitised for the infotainment generation. Yes, with the new one, a lot has been gained, but quite a bit lost, too. Another great video, Harry. Thanks.
Thanks Harry. Your reviews truly rise to the level of the fine cars you make your subjects. Keep it up.
Thanks for the review Harry! You gotta admire Ford for doing something this cool.
Simply a timeless design and I love the sound of that V8. Wow! Thank you for sharing
0:55 my God the 550 maranello is beautiful!
I have loved your work since the earliest evo days and so happy that the youtube format suits you so well.
I think you’re the best car presenter on UA-cam. Thank you for another great video sir.
Best car reviewer on any kind of programme his enthusiasm is infectious!
Clarkson´s old car, has the same livery. TOP JOB Mr Harry! Love your enthusiasm, knowledge and plain charm. Keep it up!
Your channel is keeping me sane through this lockdown Harry. Thank you
Your enthusiasm always comes out for the car you are testing, another great video.
Such good videos from an enthusiastic expert and car-nut, with fantastic presentation skills - and a joy to watch, a always. Many thanks for your videos, Harry. Keep 'em coming. Best wishes.
The first Harry's garage video I've got the headphones out for.Simply brilliant.
what a beast. The onboard shots are amazing.
Oh yes, this is going to be class.
Gorgeous example. Great video Harry, thanks.
Thank You Harry ,once again, another superb video.
This channel gives me the feel of what I've been sorely missing on automotive television the past few years, here in the states. This is also my favorite all-time American car, and trust me I don't have many favorite American cars.
I just noticed the thumbs down votes for this video. In this case I can only guess that such votes were contributed by the same people who manage to accidentally engage the accelerator pedal instead of the brake pedal when feeling overwhelmed.
.....people giving thubdown are the redundant ones....
They probably eat cus cus.
Appreciate that end "note" of the exhaust!
Fabulous content as usual Harry. You're getting it absolutely right, imo.
Hands down one of my all time favorite cars! I had the opportunity to ride in one many years ago and it was amazing! If I had a spare $300 grand I’d pick one of these up over almost any other modern supercar. Great video!
I’m happy for you, a very nice presentation! Thank you 🙏
What a car, what a good presentation. Awesome as always
To hell with clarkson. One of the best cars ford ever built. Great review.
Brilliant video as always Harry. Thank you.
Yet again another terrific in car experience with 'Harry', like he's taking me for a ride. Well done.
Had no idea Harry revered this car so much. What a phenomenal machine. Keep it up, HG!!
Here in the States a few years back I attended a small Hot Rod show in rural Western Maine where my wife and I were visiting family. It was held at a local fairground and most of the cars on display were lined up on either side of narrow road that was part of the fairgrounds. While wandering amongst the various Hot Rods a Ford GT in the same color scheme as this one comes idling down the road passing by all of the cars on display. It turns out that it was owned by a friendly older gentleman whose only issue with the car appeared to be low seat height when it came to getting into and out of the car. He ended up parking it right in line with the cars on display which felt just a bit surreal to me. It remains the only time that I have seen a Ford GT in person. That car was one beautiful beast, as is this one in the video. Thanks for the ride!
Great history; great insight. Well done, Harry. Cheers
Wow it really does not get much better from its looks to the way it drives and sounds. Perfection gets closer! 😍😍😍
Harry is Simply the best at Automotive Journalism !
What a video of The GT40
Harry and Ian, no words to say. Incredible. Here in India, car nuts (me) are few and far between. Thanks to both of you, you make my day, everyday, sense in a chaotic world. All the very best
What Harry is Trying To SAy, "It's Very MeNtal!"
Awesome Stuff, Sounds Alone with massive retro overtones.
Unreal Show HG.
another brilliant episode , cheers Harry
Thanks Harry for yet another great video and amazing car.
Thank you Harry, lovely video as always.
Your enthusiasm is addictive Harry 🙂👏
Thanks Harry. Cheers from a Canadian fan.
"It''s like a 450 hp Lotus Elise" oh god, this must be a truly wonderful supercar. Thanks Harry, great video, as usual indeed
Great to see, thanks Harry
Great review as always. Hopefully we’ll be getting an update on the Espada engine rebuild soon!
Looks fantastic, sounds fantastic, with great handling & ride Comfort
Epic car...very nice video
Awesome content everytime 👊
Cheers Harry, great video, lovely angle for the ride along. Pretty sure I could forgive the lack of luggage space on this occasion. :)
The best enthusiast's channel on here. No obsession with times and shiny stuff. Most of us appreciate these things in isolation - and thats what it's all about.
What great advice for Ford GT owners about ingress and egress, superb video as always Harry. Thank you.
A great watch ! Brings back top memories seeing these on the road, thinking of Jeremy's Top Gear bits with it, most of which shouldn't make me think higher of the car... but it's got a real charm to it. Thanks for sharing this !
+1
Love watching your videos Harry!
Lovely little motor - what a peach the GT40 is
Superb stuff!
Best Ford GT video bar none. Harry, you continue to produce unmissable content. Many thanks. P.S. A Ford To actually want.
Awesome job as always!
what a wonderful car and great review Harry.
Great review ,good camera angles👍
Great car, great video Harry! Thanks for sharing 👍
This has been my dream car since I first saw the concept in 2004. It had a huge impression on me as a kid and I've been obsessed with it ever since. Ford was just starting to get its mojo back and it was finally an exciting time to be a car enthusiast in America.
Hey Harry... the 100 on the other side works fine... when one is following you and you are looking in your rear view mirror... Cheers.
Great car. I remember visiting Roush Technologies as a defence contractor many years ago and there were 3 or 4 of these in the workshop.
Sensational, such a beautifully aggressive-looking car with a va-va -voom V8 soundtrack to match.
Another great video from a great man about a great car. Well done.
Gorgeous Harry..simply gorgeous. Cheers, Bob
Every now and then, well mostly now, you come out with some real toppers Harry.
Thanks for my 14th birthday gift, Harry!
Great revue of a great car
Well done Harry
Beautiful car Mr Harry another top review thanks 🙏
Ford gt is so underrated I wish we saw more in this country I lost my shit when one came up next to me when I was out in my vw thing 😂
... I once walked up upon one at a small town breakfast place and thought I had been teleported into a childhood episode of Speed Racer.
Fabulous film as always
Harry's reviews of a rental car are worlds better than reviews by "certain" other owners.
Gorgeous car.
Another great video, i've always loved the Ford GT
