    • @theluckienurse
      @theluckienurse  11 місяців тому +1

      If you have the money and time to do it, I say do it because you have nothing to lose!
      I believe it costs about $30 to take a proficiency exam. If you pass it, you won’t have to take that course. If you fail, you have to take the course and have no other penalty. My advise is that if you feel that you are strong in a subject and don’t need to take a full course, sign up for the proficiency exam and go online to review any major topics you think would’ve been focused on in the class!

      Hey! Most nursing programs will accept science prerequisites that were completed in the last 5 years! And I believe that Chamberlain does!
      I took anatomy and physiology one, chemistry, statistics, and a few other prerequisites at a community college before transferring to Chamberlain , and Chamberlain accepted those credits!
      A lot of universities also accept gen Ed credits that were taken within the last 10 years. I was able to transfer in a bunch of credits from my first degree. I had to fight for a couple and search for my course syllabi to present to chamberlain, but once I did, they accepted those credits.

      Quizlet is actually surprisingly a good resource lol other than that, the only way to actually study for the proficiency exam is to try to get your hands on a copy of the syllabus for that course. When you take the proficiency exams, they do not tell you what topics are covered or give you a study guide. So anything that falls under that subject is fair game.

    • @theluckienurse
      @theluckienurse  2 роки тому +1

      It’s awesome that you’re thinking about going back to school to switch careers, because it’s not easy but I definitely think that it’s worth it!
      Chamberlain is a three-year program and costs about $90,000, however the cost can vary and so can the time. If you transfer into Chamberlain with credits, you can finish in as little as two years and four months. Also if you come in with credits, the cost of the program can dramatically decrease.
      My advice would be to reach out to an advisor at Chamberlain to see how much the program would cost for you and what classes you would need to take in the program, because if you already have a degree you will not need to pay $90,000 and spend three years at Chamberlain.
      I would also advise you to look around at other schools. I love Chamberlain, but it is very expensive compared to other schools. A lot of community colleges have amazing programs that are a fraction of the cost of Chamberlain!
      Good luck!

      Hi! What is TOEFL? I'm not sure what that is, so I'm not sure if they are similar. But I will say that when I took the English exam, there was a heavy focus on grammar (knowing verbs, adverbs, nouns, pronouns, parts of speech, and basic grammar rules like when to use a comma in a sentence). There was also material on identifying the purpose of writing material (opinionated vs fact, and persuasive vs. compare and contrast). Hope that helps!

      I'm starting the program in Jan 2022. I took the TOEFL iBT since English is also my 2nd language and I graduated HS from a foreign school. It was a pretty challenging exam. There were 4 parts in it and they were lengthy. My strong areas has always been reading, writing and listening. Speaking requires you to be somewhat confident and with a good flow with words. Well, being on a timer doesn't help at all lol so be prepared to be concise and to be on point. Speaking over a mic knowing there's someone remote proctoring you will cause some anxiety, well at least for me it did. I suggest practicing your speech skills prior to the exam. Brush up on the other skills too. BTW, I had to pay out of pocket for the exam and prior to this, they made me take HESI A2 and I also had to take placement exams. All because I was a foreign HS graduate. It didn't matter I'm a Licensed Practical Nurse for 15 years already. I wish they would at least offer some Pharmacology exam you could challenge to take some months off the program if you passed.
