Hiiiii everyone! I'm back this week with a new video sharing some of my best tips for taking exams in nursing school🤓 What are some of your favorite exam study tips? Did I forget to mention anything? Comment below! ❤
I love the advice about sleep. I noticed a difference. Doing everything that you mentioned will not make a difference if you are sleepy the day of the test. Sleep and being dehydrated will dig your brain and this will cause us to make silly mistakes on exams. So many times during test reviews I looked at my exam and wondered why the heck I picked a certain answer. Lol my mind was clear. Guys getting rest is better for us than doing that extra studying. We tend to actually know more than we think. Get your rest! Take care of yourself.
Not a nursing student, but I’m in a very intensive funeral service program so that I can become an embalmer and funeral director. I have finals in a few weeks and found your tips to be useful. Thank you!
i'm in an accelerated and program and i am an lvn who did lvn school which was hard but rn school is definitely harder and kicking my butt. dealing with anxiety/depression/ adhd I am trying to find other ways to stay organized and other ways to study efficiently. hopefully this will work for me thanks for the helpful video
I dont like to take notes on digital system, but prefer to write my notes. I print out the powerpoint slides then write on them. I will probably start writing questions on them in different ink. My school doesn't allow us to retrieve the test questions and only give us our grades. I have problems trying to come up with test questions. [l
Love these tips so much! Thank you for such a wonderful video. I can attest to the active learning process. Back in A&P 1 a few years ago I went from making C’s on test while studying up to 10 hours for one test to making A’s while only studying a few hours by creating questions stemming from the review. I used the same process in Microbiology except no review this time so required a bit more time but wow! Night and day difference. You are totally right! I would see question on the test that were similar to questions I had made up. Makes you feel very smart 🤓
This might be a funny question but how did you know what questions to ask yourself? Was it based on topics? I’m a prospective nursing student and have heard of this study method but have never understood how to come up with questions

I just started NS and i have failed both of my exams so far. I feel like my world is crumbling down. This is what i wanted to do my whole life and i know the concept but when it comes to the critical thinking part of exams i overthink or second guess myself i guess. I just need help. 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
High school student here, parents forcefully helping me because sixes and fives werent enough, im really stressed because i have daily tests, three exams a week, and its not even a test week. Which im even more stressed for. Currently failing because i just gave up hope.
This works. I was doing active recall before I even knew what it was. I study and then i teach it to my classmates. It works for them because they like to hear a lecture, it works for me because it forces me to store it for a longer periods of time.
Omg I ALWAYS second guess myself on exams and I always regret because my initial answer was right! Thanks for the tips and recommendations. For the app you mentioned, is it like anki?
Lol no prob 😊 I hate when that happens but lesson learned! And I would Notion is more of an organization tool and less like a flash card app because Anki lets you arrange your cards based on difficulty. Notion just has a toggle option that lets you make up questions to test yourself, but that’s pretty much it and it doesn’t really resemble a flash card. I just like using it instead of Anki because of the simplicity of it and how clean it looks! Anki was too confusing for me lol

can you make a video on how to set up notion?? Also thank you for this, I got accepted into nursing school recently and honestly, I'm the most nervous I have ever been in my life. With covid and everything going on highschool is not bad at all but nursing school will be a whole new level and I don't know how to study and just scared tbh
i was scared at first too but it does get better! make sure not to be shy. if you have a question or concern TELL your professors and use your campus resources. Also, try to get to know the people in your classes because its really not a lie you will see them in every class every day with you lol. you would think it would be difficult bc of covid but, trusttttt me everyone in your class wants to meet each other and make study groups, they just need someone to be the first hello:) and one thing to remember, which i have a hard time trying to remember myself, that this is YOUR journey. DO NOT let people choose or influence your steps in nursing school negatively, because unfortunately it is such a competitive major and many people will act like it is a competition. Cs get degrees, it doesn't matter if you get As or you get Cs, it matters how great of a nurse you will be to your patients. congrats and the best of luck!!!!

Feeling like a failure right now! I just failed my dosage calculations test...I scored an 88, but need a 90 to pass. For this reason I have failed out of the nursing program even with a 94 weighted average in the class so far! Nursing school is a savage beast!!
At my school, dosage exams must be 100% pass. They see it as if you don't get 100% you can harm a patient. I just did a TON of practice 3 days before these exams. Also, anything below 80% on exams is a fail. I just finished my first semester and am moving to the next....pray for me!
I am going to try this method because I am studying all wrong ! Question : are the questions you come up scenario questions or just content questions and do you add space repetition to this method? Do you formulate your questions after you review book and PowerPoint. I guess I am trying to figure out if you read review material first and then make questions?
Hi there! The questions I came up with were content questions, I just rephrased the material as questions and then used the class powerpoints to answer the questions. I formulated the questions after I reviewed the lecture material from the book and powerpoint. I did use spaced repetition when possible but since our exams were a week apart usually I could only space it out like 2-3 times for each exam!
I always take notes and took me forever to finish one chapter😢😢 can you tell me what should I be taking notes in medsurge or mental class? Or any classes in nursing...
Ive failed 2 exams already, if i dont get 80s on everything from now till the end, i fail. It was so easy in patho but, now in fundamentals... idk. I hope this works

I just did my first written assignment in nursing school and I thought I'd at least get a high credit, and I got barely a pass - a grand total of 58.9/100... oh to my terror. its so discouraging and since I know nursing employment can be really competitive especially to new grads.. can you provide some advice or discuss about this topic, please? thank you.
I'm on my first semester and it's so hard, my semester nos divided into 3 blocks that last 4 wks, 3 classes per block. The next block starts during finals of the previous one. It's not an accelerated program, but it's so fast I have a hard time catching up. For this now 2nd block, professor's don't have powerpoints or recorded lectures. We just have chapters that are due that day and they give us case studies, with little guidance. I don't know how to study now. In prereqs I learned that I learn better with drawing things. I would take notes in class, rewrite my notes in color and draw multiple silly pictures to help me remember, but I don't even have enough time to take notes now and I don't even know what to focus on. I'm afraid I'll be focusing on something entirely different from what the professor wants us to. I'll try your method, but do you have any tips on how to create study guides from the book only? Without prof guidance or powerpoints? I'm so nervous I don't want to fail

When I was in my last semester we were learning critical care which built on fundamentals/med surg so I mostly used Notion to review key concepts I had already learned in previous semesters. But if there was something I had a really hard time with, I would make charts and mind maps like in this video: ua-cam.com/play/PLQHQuKhubl7wrEzQK5TsP7l9oNOl6q8ga.html hope that helps! 😊
I'm in an accelerated program and I "failed" every midterm. I didnt get anything above a 78. and I can't find any resources on how to recover from that when youre in an accelerated program.
Which computer do you use for school or to write down notes? I’m an older student and not very technical and nursing school online is crazy for me. Trying to simplify things. 🤦♀️
I’m having trouble creating my own study questions. Any tips? Also, were your class exams NCLEX style questions? Or different? Thank you for all the information, is really helpful
Hi! I would try to model study questions after the questions you usually see on your exams. For example, my program always had questions on our exams about nutrition and risk factors for diseases, so I would try to make questions based around that. Try to think about what your professor might ask on an exam and go from there and try to rephrase your lecture notes as questions 😊 And our exams had NCLEX style questions with different formats like select all that apply, hot spots, etc.

I don’t because it’s been a while since I took it ☹️ but I’d recommend doing a lot of dimensional analysis practice problems to get comfortable with conversions. Also reading the chapter before class helped because it helped solidify the lecture instead of going in blind. Hope that helps!

Hi! I've been using active recall for a while. The way I go about it is for example what are the symptoms/ causes/ risk factors of hypertension. I also use the headings and subheadings of PowerPoint slides to help me come up with questions. Like what is the mechanism of action of a toxin or what are the characteristics of red blood cells . I try to use questions to tackle and learn new information and as Thalia said if I've managed my time well move to practice questions. Hope this helps

I tried to study for the most content heavy classes like patho and med surg by reviewing a few powerpoints for an exam each for like 30 mins-1hr and the next day I would review the remaining powerpoints. Then I would make questions like how I showed in the video with Notion and go through those questions every few days using spaced repetition in the days leading up to the exam. Is that what you mean?
Casually searching this up because i am failing half of my classes (not even my fault! 1 question is worth 5 points like tf-) but anyways my mom is ready to avenge my grades and d1sown me unless i get better grades

So I just did what a most of my class did and that was writing everything down and reading it a couple days later again to make sure I was retaining the info and then again before the exam. Good luck it’s doable just keep pushing..oh and lots of questions I saw a lot of questions on the tests that I had done already on quizlet and other sites
Thank you!
These were AWESOME tips! Thank you very much Sis, this video made me feel more hopeful
So glad you liked it, thanks so much for watching 😊💕
i'm in an accelerated and program and i am an lvn who did lvn school which was hard but rn school is definitely harder and kicking my butt. dealing with anxiety/depression/ adhd I am trying to find other ways to stay organized and other ways to study efficiently. hopefully this will work for me thanks for the helpful video
Good tips ! Never thought to look at the select all that apply as true or false
I feel like it’s hard adapting to these questions.. lots of questions on the exam appear nowhere in our written material/lecture
That's what I'm running into. Ever since we started pharm it seems like we are magically supposed to know answers to material that we never learned.
I'll starting my bsn program on 2/22/22 and i'm glad i found your video right on the edge. I will try my best!
there is so much info to remember and retain, i definitely needed to watch this vid and change my study habits
currently a junior
this is probably the BEST video of study tips I've watched
I wanna come back here before my 4th year in ns
and share how I improved
You were so realistic in this video. I experienced some of the things you explained. I will differently use these tips
This might be a funny question but how did you know what questions to ask yourself? Was it based on topics? I’m a prospective nursing student and have heard of this study method but have never understood how to come up with questions
everything you see will come out on the exam so ask yourself everything lol
Use objectives outlined in textbooks and class lectures & turn them into questions.

I just started NS and i have failed both of my exams so far. I feel like my world is crumbling down. This is what i wanted to do my whole life and i know the concept but when it comes to the critical thinking part of exams i overthink or second guess myself i guess. I just need help. 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢

That is same with me!! How are you doing now?
How did you use active recall for med surg and patho/pharm? 🥺
Thank you so much for this video! You’re the best! 💗👌🏻
High school student here, parents forcefully helping me because sixes and fives werent enough, im really stressed because i have daily tests, three exams a week, and its not even a test week. Which im even more stressed for. Currently failing because i just gave up hope.
Highschool senior hear taking a college biology test went from an A+ to a D over a test and I’ve never felt so down about a class
Ok. I’ll try it out! Thank you! 😊
@Jungie that’s me and I said that’s it! I’m not going to this anymore!

Love your tips! Thank you! Probably one of the most helpful videos I came across when it came to studying before nursing school! Thanks for being Real ♥️
can you make a video on how to set up notion??
@@jennamangano3832 holy shit thank you so much for this I really appreciate this a lot. I definitely have been stressed but this really made me feel a lot better. You’re a gem 🖤

@@dubbytash927 oh i am so happy to hear!!! the one thing you want to get ahead of right away is YOUR personal way of studying to get you the results you are reaching for. its taken me a year to truly fins a great way to study for myself and my course style. this can alleviate a lot of unnecessary stress for yourself. also making sure you take a break, whether it is taking the night off for yourself or even the weekend, GIVE IT TO YOURSELF. you will work so hard you deserve breaks and to not burn yourself out, but ofc dont forget to get back to it lmao. and last thing i have actually just started was looking up nursing student vlogs and stuff on utube because they all understand the stress and it kinda can be nice to see others going and knowing what your going through. i hope some of this helps you and stay positive!!! you got this and its truly such an amazing journey and reward!

can you please make a separate video on how you used notion and the workspace section you mentioned?
Feeling like a failure right now! I just failed my dosage calculations test...I scored an 88, but need a 90 to pass. For this reason I have failed out of the nursing program even with a 94 weighted average in the class so far! Nursing school is a savage beast!!
In my nursing school, we only needed 80% to pass with 60 math problems. Your school is too much
My school needs 100% score on the dosage calculation exam so...pray for me!
@@s.c.6279 what school do you go to?
My school requires 80% to pass
At my school, dosage exams must be 100% pass. They see it as if you don't get 100% you can harm a patient. I just did a TON of practice 3 days before these exams. Also, anything below 80% on exams is a fail. I just finished my first semester and am moving to the next....pray for me!
Awesome video, gotta try some of these things out!
So glad you enjoyed, let me know what works best!
Great tips, really appreciated them.
Thanks so much glad you liked them!
Good info & insight 👍🏾 Thanks a bunch!
Hello, please. i have a question, and any reply would be appreciated. So i am about to start my nursing school this august. I will be taking the fundamentals of nursing and pharmacology. I really like this notion workspace. Is there any way i can get like a copy of your questions so i can add it to what ill be studying in the month months. Any help you will offer will really help. In LPN school I skimmed everything and passed easily. But forgot most of it. I just started bridging from LPN to BSN and I'm _struggling_ . I'm 26 and never learned how to actually study, so I'm having to figure it all out now.
cool tips I learn from example questions so I will def implement this, have an exam in 3 days let's see if it works

What dose the app look like that your talking about? I can't seem to find it?
How do i take notes like those on notion?
i had failing my midterm and now how dont know what do do i am so upset
Hi Thalia! Could you by any chance discuss if grades matter in looking for a job? as in will the employer ask for your transcripts, how much do grades really matter, etc?
Hi, how are you in your nursing studies. I am going to start in this Fall and I am nervous about it. Thanks
How do you come up with questions? This is what I really struggle with

How do you create questions?
Is it possible to succeed without reading the textbook. Im having trouble.
Do you still write notes in addition to making questions with the app you mentioned?
When I was in my last semester we were learning critical care which built on fundamentals/med surg so I mostly used Notion to review key concepts I had already learned in previous semesters. But if there was something I had a really hard time with, I would make charts and mind maps like in this video: ua-cam.com/play/PLQHQuKhubl7wrEzQK5TsP7l9oNOl6q8ga.html hope that helps! 😊
See like MAKING the study tools is so time consumptive.
Can you do a video tutorial on how to use notion like you do?
I'm in an accelerated program and I "failed" every midterm. I didnt get anything above a 78. and I can't find any resources on how to recover from that when youre in an accelerated program.

Which computer do you use for school or to write down notes? I’m an older student and not very technical and nursing school online is crazy for me. Trying to simplify things. 🤦♀️
My nursing school make you sit out a whole year cause you have to wait for that same semester you failed the course, to redo the exams
I keep getting 60-70 no matter how much I study 😢
Hows it going for you now
I feel like my mind won’t grab what I’m reading even the simple things
How long does it take you to make those questions in that app?
I tried this study method and brought up my grade 20 more points ... this works :)

How much hours or time do you spend studying a day? 😊I’m going in my 3rd semester and still struggle with thinking I NEED to pull all nighters
Did you figure this out?
You have encouraged me! Thank you...
You got this!
Thank you so much. I failed my first exam. And writing out notes is taking too long.
This video is full of wisdom thank you so much
I’m having trouble creating my own study questions.
I have 60 days remaining to go about with my exams in nursing. My first exam. Goodluck to me!

Do you have a video of how to study for Chem m?
I don’t because it’s been a while since I took it ☹️ but I’d recommend doing a lot of dimensional analysis practice problems to get comfortable with conversions. Also reading the chapter before class helped because it helped solidify the lecture instead of going in blind. Hope that helps!

How do you know what questions to make up? I suck at this!

Eating healthy, exercising and enough sleep can be very helpful.💪🏽🙏🏽
I was wondering if active recall works in nursing school, what about spacing though and interleaving?
I tried to study for the most content heavy classes like patho and med surg by reviewing a few powerpoints for an exam each for like 30 mins-1hr and the next day I would review the remaining powerpoints. Then I would make questions like how I showed in the video with Notion and go through those questions every few days using spaced repetition in the days leading up to the exam. Is that what you mean?
Casually searching this up because i am failing half of my classes (not even my fault! 1 question is worth 5 points like tf-) but anyways my mom is ready to avenge my grades and d1sown me unless i get better grades
i am a bit concerned how this came up when i searched, "nobody: the school tho explaining how they got straight a's" and this and a bunch of other nursing school videos came up
