To be fair, the Little Pigeon writes most of the lyrics, but I love the way Sai Chan delivers them !

Sai-Chan has affirmed herself as one of the best, if not the best, frontwoman in rock today. There are few that can match her, and there are a lot of great frontwomen. The only one I would rate ahead of Sai-Chan is Yuko Suzuhana of Wagakki Band, though they are not strictly pure rock like Band Maid. I like this version of "Don't You Tell Me !" live because you can really see exactly what the members are doing, though I wish they had a couple of cameras on Akane alone.

Her MCs are still pretty awkward but when she speaks her mind, as the level of her excitement and passion rise during performance, we feel that with her too.
Yuko is another different type of front person altogether. She's flawless, but Saiki's imperfections are endearing to me.😍
@@lurkmerchant I really wasn't comparing Sai-Chan and Yuko personally, but more of the genre sense. I understand Sau-Chan is learning exponentially as time goes by, but she has the instincts that cannot be taught. I've seen Band Maid 3 times in the last year and a half and I'm fully convinced that she has the goods to be one of the best ever. I'm 77 year old rocker and have seen them all and she just has that "thing" that grabs at you and doesn't let go. And the same thing applies to the rest of the band, Miku, Akane, Misa and the Master, Kanami all have that certain something that just endears them to the fans, especially us older fans who have been starved of great rock since the mid 1980's.

Genre got nothing to do with how good a front woman she is.
The aggressive raw energy Saiki emits on stage along with her stage vocal is truly rock. It's just her style.
Don't underestimate Miku. She has written most of the lyrics for Band-Maid. The cuteness is a diversion to keep you unsuspecting!
Helps a ton when she's whipping everyone at poker
And she is improving her guitar skills enormously.
Band maid fans give props to the crew as well. We know how hard they work in the back to help produce their sound 😉
Btw Miku isnt just the cute back up vocalist and rhythm guitarist, shes also the band's main lyricist responsible for those deep lyrics.

I just realized that Miku and Saiki are the physical representation of the contrast of Band-Maid's cute look and heavy sound with Miku being the "cute" one and Saiki being the "cool" one.

There’s a pun to be made about how much Band-Maid ripped, but the Japanese group goes even harder than that. Fluctuating between hard rock, aughts nu-metal, and pop rock, each member of the quintet is a virtuoso in her own right with more than a decade of practice in Band-Maid alone. They lured curious onlookers into the fold when highlights like “Domination” and “Don’t You Tell Me” got huge reactions from the crowd, but it was the bass solo-versus-guitar solo duels mid-song that got the biggest cheers. This is what those guys in Guitar Center think their ridiculous riffing sounds like. Turns out it’s done best, and most effortlessly, by women in black-and-white maid dresses and frilly hair-pieces as they smile ear to ear. -N.C.
Some have pointed out that Miku writes most lyrics, but the vocal melodies come from Kanami who writes the music. The lyrics are always added to the music, which seems unusual but fascinating. A documentary of the 2022 US tour gives us insight into the process. Yes. But arrangements are done by other members including vocals. That's why Kanami doesn't officially credit herself to be Band-Maid's composer.
Miku writes lyrics but with Saiki's input. That's the Band-Maid thing. Doing it together.
The duel is brilliant of course but you are going to really lose your mind when you see Dice / Hate? from Lollapalooza 2023 although it was even better at this show. And Hate? 's lyrics are Saiki's

Japan Open Poker Tour final tournament: Miku Kobato finished in second place. She really regretted that she didn't take first place.

Miku is also a producer and negotiator on behalf of the group, and also manages finances (the ladies said in an interview that they entrusted Miku with their wallets)
Those are Miku's lyrics, with an assist from Saiki. She's been the primary lyricist for Band-Maid, although some songs credit both Miku and Saiki. Saiki does have sole lyric credit on a few of their more recent songs.

I always believe it s a good thing to pause regularly. It engages the viewer and we get a chance to listen and watch something we may have missed but the host noticed.
Ironic. I was gonna say that Miku-chan WRITES most of the lyrics but in this case Don't You Tell Me was a collaborative effort by both Miku-chan and Saiki-san. :D
According to the Barks magazine interview, the lyrics of this song were written this way:
After listening to this song (without lyrics, of course), Saiki told Miku about the image of the song she got. Miku then wrote the lyrics and showed it to Saiki. Saiki asked Miku to change some words and phrases.
Therefore, the lyrics were mostly written by Miku, and the storyline of the lyrics was made by Saiki.

They probably tweaked words together in this one too, there are some straight-forwarded-ness in the lyrics that have Saiki feel.
Each Maid has a specific function in the band. Kanami is the song writer and composer. Miku writes most of the lyrics, (except for "Hate?" and "Corallium" which Saiki wrote the lyrics for), Akane writes the drum parts then hones them with Kanami, MISA fills in the bass parts and often sends them to Saiki to get her input and praise. Saiki is the "Quality Control" department, giving the thumbs up or down to songs she has to sing. A collaborative effort from Band-Maid, not letting ego interfere, just focused on making the best overall songs!

Saiki has final say on the costumes, while Miku works with the designer to get the uniforms made. It's more of a collaborative project now. I'm the past it was just Miku working on the designs.
If I am remembering right MISA's mom actually sewed the plaid uniforms for the Ladies way back in the day, as the store bought ones didn't meet the look they were going for.
Miku has co-written lyrics with Saiki a few times before Saiki started writing on her own.
I'll just say it - Tono/Kobato is up there with McCartney/Lennon, Simon/Garfunkel or whomever you want to name for the sheer # of awesome songs they've written. Sure there are a few standard fun lines, but the pigeon can be pert near profound with some of her lyrics. After 100 listens, I finally start paying attention to the lyrics. Not before, because I'm afraid I'll miss something going on elsewhere. Until then, Saiki is another instrument. (and again, the Queen was on 🔥 on this one!
I love Saiki going down that ramp alone and working the crowd while singing. She’s a beautiful woman and a great singer.

This duel was seen for the first time in 2018. They almost never repeate anything so all their "special arrangements" last only one season. I think all of us fans are especially grateful that they have dusted off this excellent duel for their tenth anniversary tour. I would gladly pay to recover some of their stellar intros ("Clang" European tour 2019, "Choose Me" European Tour 2018, "Alone" 1st Online Okyuji 2020...). Thank you!

Actually, Miku writes almost all the lyrics. She's outwardly a cute girl, but inside -- according to her bandmates -- she's a middle aged man. She founded the band, is the main promoter, front person in all their publicity, and best at staying on message and in character at all times. Man, what she says and does would embarrass me to death and she just sticks it like pro. That little look, like, "oh, does that seem strange to you?" No, acting the part of an 800 year old pigeon couldn't be strange. If Kanami is the brains, Saiki the voice, and Misa and Akane the strength of Band Maid, then Miku is the heart and soul.
It's not their first time doing this kind of conversation between bass and guitar. And most lyrics shredding is Miku's.
Miku was a girl with a dream of singing in a band and playing guitar with a band and writing songs for a band. Now she's a woman who sings, plays great rhythm guitar (and got to perform a shred solo at this concert) and writes nearly all of the songs for Band-Maid, the band she founded, fought for and gives her everything to. I find her very inspiring but very underrated (just like Akane's subtle drum work in every performance where MISA and Kanami perform a call-and-response/duel). Her lyrics are usually quite deep, with great plays on Japanese and English words and using Japanese philosophy, cultural references and idioms. She is also almost unfeasibly beautiful too, of course!
Okay, how Band Maid works, Kanami creates the basic melody, then sends it out to Akane and MISA for them to create the bass and drum lines. This is done by internet as they do not live near each other. Then the music is sent to Miku for the creation of the lyrics. Miku is highly respected in Japan for her lyrics which have been described as poetry. Saiki is now working with Miku on the lyrics and she has wrote the lyrics for 3 songs.
Then they go into the studio to fine tune the song into the final version. Saiki has the "We Are Done" call. They have total control of their music from creation to the order the song are on the Album.
One last thing, Saiki crates the set list for their concerts.
Look up song writer, lyricist on their DVD/CD's. It's Lyrics Miku Kobato Music Band Maid; now we are seeing Saiki listed with Miku on the lyrics.

As has been stated numerous times, Kanami writes the vocal melody first, then Miku listens to it numerous times to come up with lyrics that she believes will suit the song as a whole. Once that is done, it's Saiki's responsibility to understand and believe the message and sing it to the world with so much conviction. Miku/Saiki are the Peart/Lee of this century so far. Their messages may be different but their love, trust and respect for each other in the lyrical process is timeless.
Yah, their whole process of getting to the final vocal part _shouldn't_ work and yet...
Just fitting words (including in English which Miku is still a novice at) to someone else's (Kanami's) vocal melody seems waaaay harder than the melody- writer coming up with them or writing a melody to fit the words. And then, bilingual fans report that Miku's lyrics bend and/or break usual Japanese conventions of pronunciation and rhythm, so Saiki has to learn how to sing stuff that is often counter- intuitive for a Japanese speaker while still making it flow with emotional force. Somehow they make all this look easy.

I don't think it's all, but Psych has the final say on the set list and selection of songs for the concert.
As others have written, there is a scene in the previous documentary where Kanami plays Saiki a song she started writing on the tour bus during a tour and asks for Saiki's consent to proceed with the production.
Also, with the exception of a few songs, Miku writes the lyrics for all of BAND-MAID's self-produced songs.
Kanami creates the drafts for all the songs, which are then finalized by all the members.
There are statements that show this in their interviews.

Miku writes most of the lyrics. But Saiki of course makes it flow perfectly, and delivers the story and emotions behind the lyrics. Miku works with Saiki and they have co-written few songs, though.
Everyone contributes to their song-writing and everyone gets the time to shine, the band allows everyone's creative freedom. They support each other, they probably were already talented when Miku formed Band-Maid, but their growth came as a result of their team-work.

If you really want to see a duel watch HATE? live from Lalapalooza 2023. Kanami and Misa go OFF. You won't regret it, wear a seatbelt and protective gear. 🤓 Miku writes practically all the lyrics. Saiki is quality control, Kanami is the music ideas and the others do their own parts off of those. Miku created the band and is truly the heart and moving force behind it. She did write the lyrics to HATE? I believe.

Miku is responsible for most of the lyrics for Band Maid, especially earlier in the band's career. I believe that the lyrics for "Don't You Tell Me !" are Mikus. Later on Sai-chan had a lot more input, which was absolutely not to the band's detriment. Sai-Chan and Miku provide the bulk of the lyrics and they always come through to please the fans.
Miku is the main lyricist of the band including this song. Don’t get it twisted 😂. I think all that thought provoking you were talking about is usually the Pigeon doing the provoking. She is a master as the lyricist of the band. Saiki has been given some opportunities to write also. She’s been learning after joining the band and been given the chance to add to her artistic side.
Some of Miku's lyrics have some Saiki feel. I think they tweak words together.

Saiki sings the songs, but for the most part, she doesn't write the lyrics or music. Most of their songs start with music by Kaname and lyrics by Miku. The others help shape the songs, but those two are the core writers. There have been a few exceptions.
One day, Kanami Tono/Miku Kobato will be as ubiquitous as John Lennon/Paul McCartney. No that isn't hyperbole...it is fact. BAND-MAID is the best live rock band in the history of rock.

Actually MIKU brings most of the lyrics to the table. SAIKI brough some lyrics to spice up the menu with HATE? at this same concert! You better watch/review this one because you think your ashamed now?! rofl - In HATE? SAIKI teaches Taylor Swift how to write lyrics about an ex-boyfriend/Husband. Taylor is ashamed with that one.
