My comment is ALWAYS can you imagine the kind of band you get when the founder/lead singer fires HERSELF and gets a better singer so the band do more? Yes Miku did just that and THEN learned guitar to make her band sound even better. Oh that PO thing is her inisde joke because her name in Japanese Characters looks very close to 'small pigeon and in Japan pigeons go Po Po NOT coo coo.

Dive into their catalogue, it's comprehensive and wonderfully varied but all rock solid. But a word of warning these Rock Goddesses will steal your heart so have a replacement ready 😁 cheers 👍🍻

To get an idea of the musical talent of Band-Maid, try "From Now On" and "Onset - live". More official live videos, try "Domination", "Puzzle", "Play", "Manners/Black Hole". Official music videos try "Warning", "Unleash", "Influencer", "Blooming". Seriously though, you can't go wrong with Band-Maid. Saiki is the lead vocalist and lyric contributor. Miku is the band creator, lyricist, rhythm guitar and backing vocals, Kanami ("Mincho") is the lead guitarist and song composer, Akane is the amazing drummer, and Misa is the bassist but she's so good you can't say her name just once, it's always Misa Misa Misa! The have such a great back story to their formation. They always smile while playing the most ridiculous hard music. Their quest is to dominate the world with their music! So hard to pick a favorite song, it's usually the last one you just heard.

Quite simply THE best Hard Rock band on Earth. I'd recommend listening to their 120+ song back catalogue and anything they make in the future! It's literally all good though mostly excellent, whether MV or live, though they shine brightest live. In fact, this song was taken from their 3.5 hour , 33 song concert in front of 17,000 lucky people - they give out so much energy, happiness and love. And, of course, always superb musicianship and vocals. They are perfect.

Oh my gosh, you have opened the floodgates. Why do you love this? Because they may be the best rock group in the world today (I think they are). They are certainly the most creative band since the Beatles. (Yes, I stand by that statement!)
You are going to get a lot of suggestions. First, a little background on the band:
Saiki Atsumi - Lead vocals Born Feb 8, 1994
    MISA - Bass Born Oct 15, 1992
Kanami Tono - Lead guitar, Main composer and arranger Born Sept 28, 1991
Miku Kobato - Rhythm guitar, backing vocal Born Oct 21, 1991
Akane Hirose - Drums Born Dec 14, 1990
Miku was working in a Maid Café after being in an idol group that didn’t break through. She envisoned the idea of a maid-band that plays hard rock and metal. She recruited Kanami, after finding a Kanami guitar cover on line; Kanami then recruited Akane, who recruited MISA. Akane and MISA had been students together at the Tokyo Music Academy. The group decided they needed more vocal “oomph”, and collectively recruited Saiki. Miku didn't know how to play guitar when they started, so Kanami has been teaching her. She's become good so fast that she is really adding to the music mix, and Maidiacs are daring to dream of a dual shred.
The band was struggling early on, and in 2014, even as the label was considering dropping them, they posted the music video for “Thrill” which went viral globally. When they realized what was going on, it gave them the momentum to forge ahead, and they have now done multiple tours of Europe and the U.S. and are building a global fanbase who call themselves the Maidiacs.
They have released seven full albums, as well as several EPs, singles and music videos. They have put out around 170 songs, covering a wide variety of styles and sounds, without any duds. They combine a punk vibe with instrumental virtuosity (two things that are often seen as being incompatible), and have done some amazing progressive-rock songs with a metal edge to them.
They toured the U.S. in 2022 and sold out 14 cities in less than 48 hours. They followed it up with a 2023 tour which had to be expanded from their original plans. Their fan base skews heavily to actual practicing musicians. Some of those followed the band to multiple dates and documented everything on youtube-some of the footage is hilarious.
I’ve seen them three times (2019, 2022 and 2023) and their shows are truly life-reaffirming. So far no announcements of another European tour but it seems likely in 2024.
Band-Maid are that rare band that sound perfect live, even better than in the studio. Here are more links:

And an official MV, one of their most popular: Daydreaming (it’s a slower ballad, gorgeous and truly heart-wrenching): ua-cam.com/video/RCaeUkrItyY/v-deo.html
If you want more background, I suggest you react to this classic interview. It's hilarious, it's insightful, you will learn their names for good, and their cuteness will destroy your brain. Oh, and they are completely nuts. ua-cam.com/video/R4PofsQYwn4/v-deo.html

Ten years as a band and this concert was a three and a half hour celebration of their work. But they have no desire to stop so plenty more to come. This is an older song but a great one nonetheless. Plenty to enjoy and once you get to know the characters you will know the live performances are phenomenal and there is literally no band like them.

  • @GlennWH26

Okay, names, pronunciation, nicknames, and roles, in order that they joined the band.
Miku Kobato - mee-koo - Kuruppo, the Little Pigeon, the Little Engine Who Will - band founder, backing (and occasionally lead) vocals, rhythm guitar, principal lyricist, tireless Spokespigeon and PR machine. Wielder of weapons grade cuteness. Poker shark and horse racing fanatic. So determined to see her band succeed that she fired herself as lead singer (she decided her voice wasn't strong enough for hard rock), then went looking for a replacement. Learned to play guitar after the band was formed. Definitely eccentric, possibly insane.
Kanami Tono - kah-nah-mee - Kanamincho or just Mincho - lead guitar, keyboards, principal composer and arranger. On stage, she's a savant mad riffer with a room temperature IQ and a huge crush on Saiki. In reality, she's a genius, and not just musically- she has a degree in economics with honors. A sweet, motherly woman who turns into a beast when you hand her a guitar.
Akane Hirose - ah-kah-neh - A-chan, the Gorilla - drums, sequencing, snacks, the leader the band doesn't have. What you see is what you get- a cheerful jock with a huge appetite who burns off the calories murdering her drums. Completely unflappable. Frequently snacks between songs. Has been known to sign her banana peels and throw them to the audience.
MISA - mee-sah - the Barefoot Assassin, MISA MISA MISA! - bass, booze, occasional wet work. Usually stone faced. Barely acknowledges the audience's existence. Always has a beer or a bottle of Jim Beam on her Orange amp. Originally, these were ways of coping with stage fright. These days, that's just how the assassin rolls.
Saiki Atsumi - sah-ee-kee (but Psyche is close enough) - the Ice Queen, Sensei, Sai-chan - lead vocals, some lyrics, the "We're done" girl. Fashionista and train nerd. Regards her band mates, especially Kanami and Miku, with bemused exasperation. In total command on stage; hides behind Miku off stage (she's actually kind of shy).

Band Maid were the rabbit hole I fell down during the pandemic that got me into a lot of other Japanese bands. Some other suggestions for Japanese bands you could react to.
Gacharic Spin: all female funk rock, some jazz flavour in there too. Start with Mindset, then try I Wish I.
Scandal: another all girl group, been together 17 years and only in their mid 30s. Their stuff is very varied, but leans toward pop punk more than hard rock. I'd suggest AMDKJ as a starting point.
Babymetal: They combine metal with more J-Pop styled singing, and lead vocalist Su-Metal is one of the best singers in rock music right now. There's a DEEP well of mythology and a lot of history behind them. Monochrome is probably my favourite track of theirs right now.
These aren't all girl groups, but also well worth a look...
Glim Spanky: Remi Matsuo's raspy voice is unique, and the 60s/70s influenced classic rock sound is great シグナルはいらない [Don't Need a Signal] was my starting point and remains a favourite.
Gordon: A newer band with a small following right now, but the guitar lines are spiky and vocalist Con has a great vice and presence, I'd recommend either Classic or Bathroom

Welcome, Dreez. You are embarking on (along with many others - over 190 million YT views plus over 40 million reactor plays!) an awesome, progressive, hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid:

BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Prog, Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Jazz, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Joy of Playing, Consistency (130+ songs), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destined for mega-stardom.
Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off-the-rails spectacular!
Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 70 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: ua-cam.com/video/Uds7g3M-4lQ/v-deo.html Their songs from albums Unleash, Unseen World, Conqueror, World Domination, Just Bring It, Brand New Maid, and New Beginning drive even more - Shambles, Warning, No God, Different, Black Hole, Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Don’t You Tell Me, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on.
But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, About Us, Memorable, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, At The Drop Of A Hat, Mirage and Smile... or more punky like After Life, Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like Manners and The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or progressive like No God, Giovanni, and Black Hole… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like From Now On, Don’t Be Long, Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts… or their many acoustic versions like Catharsis and Sayonakidori... and last but not least, their Anime hits (AniMaid) like Sense, Glory and Unleash!!!!! (from their own Anime MV (series?)): ua-cam.com/video/7LB_EPS48HE/v-deo.html)
And many songs are represented with over 50 well produced music videos. ua-cam.com/users/BANDMAID
Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE audience & online OKYU-JI concerts:
     ONLINE OKYU-JI (Feb. 11, 2021) “No God” ua-cam.com/video/nAdWnIRjGak/v-deo.html
     Tokyo's LINE CUBE SHIBUYA (February 14, 2020) “Domination” ua-cam.com/video/QbyQCJn6rYg/v-deo.html
     ZEPP 2018 “Real Existence” ua-cam.com/video/-qQnKILR5u0/v-deo.html
 Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 and other full concerts are on bandmaidprime.tokyo, bili, and official Band-Maid’s DVD/BD/CD.
 “P and D⁴” Photo Collage videos at www.youtube.com/@PinDakaPanic810
And some of the better quality fan videos are excellent. Here’s two of what it’s like to see Band-Maid LIVE at an intimate venue:
 Shot by Pat McKee from their 2023 US tour concert in Detroit: ua-cam.com/video/DgxU-MVjta0/v-deo.html
     See the Maids 2023 Rockville Festival’s short-set perfection performance: ua-cam.com/video/vjZkNeoGmhc/v-deo.html
If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, CD, DVD/BD & Merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo
Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid.
For fun, check out an awesome, little known "Mega Band-Maid Mix" by DJ Ray of some of their earlier stuff: facebook.com/djrayboston/videos/1004709499579009
    Band-Maid Members:
Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “StarQueen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies. At 30 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock frontwomen... or frontmen!
Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 32 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kuruppo! No, no, no… KURUPPO!!
Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 32 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more!
Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 33 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party!
MISA (Me-Sa) "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass, 31 years old. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note... uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!
Maidiacs (Maid-e-acts) - Band-Maid’s crazed yet supportive, knowledgeable and loyal Super Fans.
    [BAND-MAID NEWS]
 BAND-MAID PRIME - Special Video Distribution Website. Along with nearly 50 great play-through’s by each member, concerts and skits, Band-Maid management / label(s) have included the Acoustic Christmas 2021, ZEPP 2018 and Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 concerts! Fans can now see more than 50 great live performances with awesome audio, etc. like Fate, I Can't Live Without You and the great MISA / Kanami exchange in Don't You Tell Me. Those concerts are two of the best produced & performed concerts ever recorded, IMO. bandmaidprime.tokyo
 The Maids SOLD OUT 2023 US & Mexico tour wrapped up and was a fantastic success. And so many great live fancams to watch! Their playing and antics were as fresh and fun to experience from first show to last. BRAVO Band-Maid!!!!! In addition, their Japan tour finished up with 13 concerts, AND they’re writing and recording for their new album. Their 10th Anniversary Tour concluded at Japan’s 17,000 seat Yokohama Arena on Nov. 26, 2023 and in Hong Kong Dec. 21! And their latest 10TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR SPIN OFF concert at KT ZEPP YOKOHAMA on February 22, 2024, where they played songs not performed at the 10th anniversary tour final at Yokohama Arena, was SOLD OUT!
The Maids are one of the hardest working super groups in the business! Their music, their sound, each of the Maids, and the love that permeates their live events is an experience not to be missed. Hope you can catch them LIVE!

Band-Maid's almost signature bass - guitar duels always set the stage on fire.
    Personnel:
*Miku Kobato:* Rhythm guitar and secondary vocalist, main lyricist, the band's founder and originator of the maid band concept, was the lead singer for about a month before she decided that the band needed a stronger vocalist. Did not know how to play guitar and was given lessons by...
*Kanami Tono:* Lead guitar, lead composer. While every band member contributes to song writing, it's Kanami who connects it all together. When you hear keyboards on the backing tracks it's generally Kanami laying down the MIDI files.
*Akane Hirose* is the drummer you hear tying every part of the song together with brilliant fills and in-the-pocket percussion. She's amazing on double kick drum and can do 220 bpm. Infectious smile and snarky sense of humor. Eats lots of bananas.
*MISA* the barefoot assassin of bass. Known for being able to instantaneous transition between slapping and picking. Watching her play bass is like watching a magician performing slight of hand. Can play guitar and trades riffs with Kanami, Misa is teaching Akane bass and Akane is teaching Misa drums.
*Saiki Atsumi* is Band-Maid's lead vocalist. Once very shy, Saiki has developed into the band's charismatic front person. Writes lyrics and plays piano. She composes each evening's set list and when in the studio, she's the one who tells them to stop fiddling about and wrap up the session.
Founded in 2013, Band-Maid has developed into one the planet's hardest working live rock acts with their unique pop-prog-rock style that includes elements of many genre and influences. Their huge and varied catalog of music is filled with surprises and never disappoints.
Try "Puzzle" live at Tokyo Garden Theater
    "Daydreaming", "Play", Domination", "YOLO", "Moratorium".
For another bass-guitar duel try "Dice/HATE?" at Lollapalooza 2023.
To give Saiki's vocal cords a break they do instrumentals: "Onset" and "From Now On" are particularly good.
Or choose songs at random on Band-Maid's UA-cam channel - they're all good.
And when you're hopelessly addicted to Band-Maid, listen to "About Us"

Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and bad-ass musicians to boot. They are currently into their 11th year with the original line up. They are:
Miku Kobato "Little Pigeon" - band founder - rhythm guitar and second vocals. Main lyricist. Claims to be an 810 year old pigeon and makes pigeon noises when she speaks. Po! Very good at poker, into horses - betting on them and eating them. Very clumsy, may fall into ditches. Has the energy of an average nuclear power station mixed with weapons grade cuteness. A comedian onstage - litrerally! She is the heart and soul of the band.
Saiki Atsumi "The Ice Queen" - Lead vocalist and frontwoman. The youngest member at 30. Into train spotting and collecting trainers (sports shoes). Very girly, into doing her nails and is a fashion icon. Really into Baseball and the Hanshin Tigers. Don't mess with her you will lose. But she has a heart of gold and a killer dry sense of humour. Recently started writing lyrics. Has final say on songs.
Kanami Tono - "Kanamincho" but usually just "Mincho" for short. Lead guitar and an absolute genius songwriter. Total riff machine. Has two personas. Normally a tiny cute shy very polite lady who seems very innocent (the band have to explain dirty jokes to her). Until she puts on her guitar. As the band say: "then she gets quite violent" - she turns into the shredding rock star she is. Takes guitar off, back to the little girl. Likes cakes, coffee and is totally infatuated by Saiki. She adores Saiki very much, to everyone's amusement.
Akane Hirose - "The Gorilla" on Drums. Seems to be the sane member of the band, but is actually the band clown. Has an enormous appetite, seen eating in a lot of MV's. Eats a lot of bananas including on stage, hence the nickname. But she is terrible at actual cooking. Usually has a big grin on her face while drumming manically, Akane was also a DJ (under the name DJ Achi) and likes dancing and goofing with MISA. She also plays trombone!
MISA (all caps, no last name) "The Barefoot Assassin" on bass. An absolute bass prodigy, MISA is very shy onstage (and a total clown offstage with Akane). Nickname comes from the fact she plays barefoot and looks like an assassin. Because of shyness often drinks onstage, you can often spot a bottle of Jim Beam on her amp. She drinks it neat. Lately drinking more beer than whiskey though, good girl. Doesn't say much, but when she does it's usually totally hilarious! At a lot of concerts you will hear the fans chanting MISA! MISA! MISA! which has become a slogan.
Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. The idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). They take the maid café concept literally. They call their concerts "servings" and their fans "Masters and Princesses". Oh, and Miku is an 810 year old small pigeon. Welcome to the pigeon hole Po!

Great intro to five of our favorite people!
Just want to throw in the basis of the 810 year old pigeon story.
Miku created the stage name "Miku Kobato" to separate her identity in Band-Maid from her previous mild fame in a pop trio "Li'l Cumin" that management put her in, that was dropped because it wasn't successful enough (one tune charted, but barely).
That was using her actual name (?) of Mika Noguchi.
So when she pitched her cafe-maid rock band idea to her managers and got permission to assemble the group, she modified her individual name and came up with a whimsical family name of Kobato, meaning "small pigeon." The smallest variety of pigeon in Japan is what we call a dove, which she used in one of her "Cluppo" side project videos. But in English, leaving it at "pigeon" is funnier. Which was the actual point.
In Japanese, the sound a pigeon or dove makes is "karuppo" - or "po" as a short reference. So she started punctuating her sentences with it, po. It bugs her family...
Also in Japanese numerology, this name has a value of 810. So she claims to be an 810 year old pigeon (perpetually 810), currently in human form.
Which is why the others often refer to her as "the kobato." It isn't a swipe, it's playing off her own joke.
A lot of the personality schtick in Band-Maid is humor, not intended to be overly serious. They have fun and that is the intention for us.

@@dazedandconfused318 Here is the rest of that file.
Band Maid was started in 2013 by Miku Kobato. At the time she had just left the Idol Group, Lil Cumin and she didn't like the type of music she had been performing. She approached her management agency with the idea of making an actual band playing rock music but dressed as maids. She had worked in a Maid Cafe and thought the image of maids playing rockin music would create what she called "The Gap" between what you see and what you hear. The Management company was like Ok, go ahead.
Miku then looked around and found Kanami a singer/songwriter who was posting her own videos on the internet. Miku had her agency contact her and Kanami thought the idea was cool and agreed to join. Miku then asked if Kanami knew a drummer who might be interested. Kanami had worked with Akane in the past and there is 2 versions of this, the first is, Kanami literally walked over to Akane's apartment and asked her, the second is Kanami called Akane and asked her. (Akane has said in 2 different interviews that 1: Kanami called her and asked if she could come over and 2: in a second interview Kanami just came over) Akane was actually hesitant as she had worked in an "All Girl Group" before and didn't enjoy it as it wasn't the type of music she wanted to play. After hearing a Demo, Akane was like ok, but was still slightly hesitant because of the "Maid Outfits", but she agreed to give it a try. Akane was asked if she knew a bass player and she had gone to Tokyo School of Music with MISA and had worked a couple of jobs with her. So Misa was contacted and after she heard a demo she was like I like the music, but she also was hesitant about the "Maid Outfits", but she relented and joined in as she really wanted to play the kind of music she heard in the demo. The 3 of them then "Auditioned" for the record company and passed the audition.
Now we have the "Core" members. The 4 members worked out some songs provided for them by the record company, and a setlist and they had performed 3 times with just Miku on main vocals. Miku after those performances felt that her voice wasn't powerful enough to really perform the songs she wanted. So she approached her management company again and asked if they had any singers who weren't in other projects. They then auditioned several singers. Miku heard Saiki rehearsing in a room across the hall and asked if she could be auditioned, the record company then had Saiki audition.
Saiki was signed to the same management company and had done some work as a backup singer and dancer and was asked if she would be interested in auditioning for this new group which currently had 4 members and she would be the fifth. She had been a member of a group with 8 other people as a backup singer and dancer, and HATED it. So she listened to the demo and thought "Cool" because she liked the music.
Now we come to the tricky part. Miku KNEW that if Saiki was told about the "Maid Outfits" she would say NO WAY!, so they didn't tell her. They told her they would have "Cool/cute Clothes"(I've read it translated either way), and she never met Miku until a few days before they had a contracted performance. She wasn't told about the "Maid Outfits" until the day before the performance, and she had considered backing out, but she had signed the contract. (Saiki also had NEVER met Miku until then as well)
So the Ladies, went and did the performance and Saiki really, REALLY liked the crowds reaction and the music they were performing. She DIDN'T like the apron she wore so it got ditched after the first performance.
And you now have the beginnings of the BEST LIVE HARD ROCK BAND in the WORLD!
      ALL HAIL BAND MAID!!!!!
Now that we have the Full band, it was felt that there needed to be a second guitar. Saiki was like, "Not Me, No Way." So Miku said, "I'll do it.", at first that was literally all she did, was hold the guitar and mime playing it, until Akane said, if you are going to hold it, you NEED to learn to play it. And Miku said, "Ok.", and Kanami started to teach Miku how to play. The Ladies released their first album in 2014 "Maid in Japan" which failed to chart, but later after "Thrill" it was reissued and charted to #26 in Japan.

Then in 2015 they released "New Beginning"
On New Beginning was the song that changed Band Maid's entire existence. "Thrill"...
The band was getting ready to release their first music video and the choice was between "Love, Passion, Matador" and "Thrill" and the ladies chose Thrill. (Little known fact, Miku helped with the lyrics on Thrill but did not get credited)
This became the seminal moment of Band Maid. Because their second album charted at #64, the record company was seriously considering disbanding the Ladies and switching them to other projects. (In fact they had Kanami and Akane work with Mochi to Cheese thinking that when Band Maid cratered they could use them in another band. MISA had also just started working with Mochi to Cheese as well). However about 6 months after the video's release, a Facebook page "JRock Radio" posted the video to their timeline. And the video went viral. Having over a million views in just a few short weeks. The Ladies Twitter page got so many hits they thought their page had been hacked. Their UA-cam channel also started getting more and more subscribers and views to Thrill.
Now the ladies knew where their fans wanted them to go. Harder Rock, less pop. And history was Maid.
If you have questions please feel free to ask.

Just one point, there is a reason when you read the song credits it says Music - Band Maid!! That is because Kanami doesn't compose the entire song's music. MISA and Akane create the bass and drums from a basic song from Kanami. Then to Miku for Lyrics and now with Saiki. Then as a Team they create the final song for release in the studio. With Saiki having the "We're Done" call. Saiki also creates the Set List for each concert.

Kanami is lead guitarist and composer. She can sing too (beautifully) but seldom does. She is the riff machine. And she brings layers and nuances going on behind things too.
She is the guitar sensei (teacher) who brought Miku from zero on guitar to impressive today. And still coaches her.
Kanami adores lead singer Saiki, whose encouragement got her through some very dark times early on.
One of their songs (The Dragon Cries) was produced by the legendary Tony Visconti, who said Saiki and Miku were the hardest working singers he had ever worked with.
Akane's drumming attracted the attention of Jimmy Page (yes, of Led Zeppelin) who was at an awards event they played in late 2016 in Tokyo. He asked to meet her and get a pic together and said very positive things of her playing.
She has gotten even better since then. She and bassist Misa played many styles including some jazz clubs before Band-Maid. You can hear it in their creative, fluid style and their groove.
Misa, well, you heard what she can do. With her long black outfit, at the left edge of the stage, in stocking feet to feel Akane's drums and lock her timing in to them, she looks like a Ninja assassin. So she is often called "the Assassin." We aren't allowed to know her surname. If she told us, she might have to kill us.
Her favorite drink is whiskey, straight up.

Girl Groups in Japan are common. Over here you have The Go Gos, The Bangles, L7, The Runaways... But over there are loads of them. But this isn't even the best LIVE version of this song. You can't see the original on UA-cam anymore. It was taken down ahead of a DVD release. You'd have to go to the 9th song from the Zepp Tokyo LIVE concert on the Chinese website Bilibili. In my opinion it surpasses this. But if you want to see something from their channel that's close, even though the sound and camera work aren't up to BAND-MAID Standards, check out 'Hate' from last years appearance at Lollipalooza.

More bands with women lead singers. Stevie Nicks, Alanis Morissette, 4 Non Blondes, Vixen, and the immortal Janis Joplin to name a few.

By chance, I caught a few of your LZ reactions. I'm older and grew up with the best rock band ever. About 3 years ago I was introduced to BM via the YT algorithm. I was privileged to attend their May 24th 2023 concert in Detroit. Led Zeppelin will always be my all time favourite band, but Bandmaid has moved up to be a close second. Five of the hardest working, talented and adorable people I've ever witnessed. Try - From Now On (an instrumental MV) and Domination Live (from 2020 World Domination tour). After that, only 100+ good songs to go

Thank you for your wonderful comment. Misa on bass, Akane on drums, and Kanami on lead guitar are all excellent technicians. Furthermore, Kanami has composed over 130 songs, and there is no boring song. he is a real genius. Miku, the side guitarist, is in charge of writing all the lyrics, and Saiki, the singer, is also amazing. I don't think there is currently a group in the world that has such a group of members. Truly one of the top bands in the world. Please have fun.

There are about fifty very good Japanese all-women rock bands, putting America to shame. This is the best of them with lots of great work. Suggest them live, with the songs, Domination, Freedom, Daydreaming, Hate, and just about anything else out of their many albums.

Young man, you have just reacted to the best that there is on the planet when it comes to rock. This is from the finale concert of Band Maid's 10th Anniversary World Tour last November 23rd in Yokohama, Japan. I have seen them live here three times in the last year and change. Twice in 2022 and once in 2023. I'm 77 and have been following rock since the late 1950's and they are the real deal. They have a catalogue of over 125 songs and they are all exceptional.
If you like all-female rock and metal bands, Asia in general and Japan in particular lead the world in that category. Besides Band Maid, there is Nemophila, SCANDAL, Lovebites, Hanabie, Aldious, Fate Gear, Doll$Box, Trident, Gacharic Spin, Hagane, Bridear, Hades and several others. There are all first-class experienced groups with a huge number of great songs. And if you like something a little edgy in hard rock there is a fairly new South Korean all-female band called Rolling Quartz, who are just fire.
And aside from their musical excellence, they are all good people who love each other and love their fans like no other group I've ever seen during my time in music. That's why we are called Maidiacs...........and it seems you are well on the way to being a full-fledged member. You have sooooooooo much to react to and as you can see from the comments, we are all happy to see you become one of us. I've just subbed so I can see your journey to the Wonderful World of Band Maid. Great reaction !!!!! Just keep it up !!!!!

    Saiki (SYE-kee) Lead vocals
Miku aka Cluppo (MEE-ku) (KLU-po) Backing vocals and rhythm guitar

Akane (uh-KAHN-ay) Drums half gorilla, half amazing, 100% Akane!
This should help you with the Maidiacs by not screwing up the names 😉👍 Welcome to the Pigeon Hole!

      @jamesredman1263 9 місяців тому

      Yes!
The Warning is three sisters who sound like a really great 5 piece band. Original Rock/Metal/Alt, some fairly deep lyrics. From Mexico, but mostly sing in very good English.
And Plush (USA). Kickin' basic rock, powerful lead singer.
Japan has many all female bands in Rock, Metal, Jazz, Jazz Fusion, and all sorts of Alt. They range from good to excellent to wonderful.
Rolling Quartz is a K-Rock band (not K-Pop) and pretty good. But the Japanese musicians have me spoiled now. After several years exploring Japanese rock and metal, Band-Maid is still my favorite.

The lead singer is Saiki (SIGH-key). The lead guitarist (and brilliant composer) is Kanami (Kana-mee) -- also known as Mincho. The bass player -- who usually has bare feet, even in this concert -- is Misa (MEE-sa). The drummer is Akane (a-KAH-nay or Aka-nay), The rhythm guitarist -- and founder of the band -- is Miku (MEE-koo). Miku also writes the words, with input from Saiki. Miku does other things too which this song does not show off -- she was in the background here.
Miku is an outstanding singer in her own right, and sings as lead in some Band-Maid songs. She was the original singer, but she sacked herself and they added Saiki because Miku is more a pop singer than a hard rock singer. At this concert she did a great performance as lead singer in "Rock In Me" as she walked around the arena, entertaining the crowds -- and high-fiving an audience member who happened the be the mother of the bassist. Miku is the genius behind Band-Maid; Kanami is the genius she recruited -- the genius behind Band-Maid's music. Akane is the expert behind the drumming --including composing entertaining and challenging drum parts. Misa composes her bass parts as well as playing them. Saiki not only performs and helps write the words, she also acts as quality control: the song ain't ready until Saiki approves it. She will be out front when it is performed, so she wants it to be the very best. Everyone in Band-Maid pulls their weight.

get your helmet... Maidiacs incoming....Live Maid is the Best Maid... you can pretty much pick any of the official Live videos and have an experience ... Band Maid is one of the few Bands that elevates in the Live setting.....even when they make a mistake in a live show (which is rare) it somehow adds to the awesomness that is the Maids...Now as far as other female rock bands... Nemopilia, Trident, LoveBites, The Warning are all great ... others will also add in BabyMetal but I think of them as more of a show than a band ... and its a great show but you have the girls in the front and the Band Backing them up ...

I hate that they don’t mix the crowd in for this video. Go watch Domination LIVE for a better idea of what it’s like at a show. I’ve seen them twice; including this song. You can actually hear the crowd in any phone recording because the crowd is a big part of this and many other songs. Actually this is my second favorite song I’ve gotten to hear in person. IMHO the best rock band this short century.
If you want more guitar and bass duels, check out Band-Maid Hate lollapalooza 2023. You won’t be disappointed.😊
