I friggin love the cinematography of this game. From the flowers falling to Shogo getting bodied in the rain and small things like the katana hitting the post just before killing Kazuo its just magnificent.
Whoever wrote Carlos’ death needs to brought onto other projects, I’ve never had a death in media ever get to me until this game. The fact that there’s no words or music speaks volumes.
Sometimes less is more and Carlos' death, even though his overall presence in the game is pretty small, is still pretty haunting. It's YOUR fault, the Boss' fault, it happens and the fact the last thing you hear from Carlos is a bunch of choked gasps and pained screams before the Boss does what needs to be done just makes it worse. Carlos doesn't get any meaningful last words, no blaze of glory, or potential revival in a sequel; he's just in a massive amount of pain before he's gone. He doesn't have the will of the Boss or Johnny, he can't shrug off being stabbed by swords, getting shot, or exploding boats.
Love the content! SR2 is definitely the best in the series, and is proof that Volition lost the plot with the series after this one. Also I can confirm GotR can help on PC with performance, but just a tad. Makes 60 FPS more stable when there's a lot going on screen. Got a sub from me!!
For anyone curious, according to BradyGames strategy guide, after the "Boss' Eventful Boat Ride with the Alderman" they ended up in a 15-year coma. Hence why SR's cast looks significantly older.
@melochronic9895 Canonically even back in 2008, it was only five years (the game takes place in 2011, five years after SR1, but was released in real-world 2008.) But I think it was originally _meant_ to be 15 years, which is why Gat, Troy, and everyone else looks like they're in their 40s.

Did you play it on a console or PC? Because the PC port is just awful and was apparently bad enough that the "Gentlemen of the Row" mod was basically mandatory to fix vehicle controls, a few game-ending bugs, etc.
You gotta understand that this game was not built for modern hardware so the cutscenes aren’t going to be very stable. Though I didn’t really experience any of these issues.
As someone who played SR2 on console, there was NEVER a bug during the cutscenes with objects... The only bug that happened during a cutscene was when the audio suddenly cut out, and then the cutscenes restarted.
It would be so amazing if they remake Saints Row 2 and kept the story and mission structure the same, but if you complete certain missions before others, then other characters will appear in alternate cutscenes and objectives. Sadly this may never happen because Volition got shut down + they already proved to not give a fuck since SR3.

I can see there was some inspiration from San Andreas in this game but that's not a bad thing. It may not be as in-depth as San Andreas was in some aspects, like the RPG elements and abilitity to take your character from human string-bean to land whale or even a sentient wall of muscle, but things like spray painting rival gang tangs, taking rival gang turf, having multiple fighting styles, the various clothing and tattoo options raising your respect gain multiplier, and more are all cool features I wish more open world games would incorporate in some form or another more often. Although I AM one of those peope who wish Rockstar would bring back more of those RPG elements in future GTA games; being able to raise specific weapon skills, vehicle skills, and even gambling were all super cool. Especially with the bonuses some of the side activities game you; like the fire truck missions making you fire-proof, the ambulance missions doubling your health bar, the vigilante missions doubling your armor bar, etc. I wish more games nowadays would give you tangible benefits like that for completing side stuff instead of just giving you money and/or experience. We put the time and effort in, damnit, make it worth our while!
in my 15 years of playing i’ve gotten those same bugs but never as bad as yours lmaoo usually for me it’s just the characters gun floating slightly outside their hand. still one of my favorite games 🙏
I started with saints row the 3rd and from the second I met Johnny Gat I was like "yo this guy is him" then they killed him. I didn't have any experience with him before this point but I knew that it was a mistake on their part and I also felt life the 4th game was weak but I enjoyed it. I always felt like I missed out on the first 2 games. Of I had known about them when they came out I would've been so excited about them.
Even funnier is Roman’s voice actor does Roman’s voice on the radio. I don’t think it’s better than GTA; both SR2 and the whole GTA series scratch multiple itches I have in different ways. I love them equally.
Its funny how highly rated SR2 is nowadays when it was highly criticized for being a GTA clone.( that was 2 now one. Thats why 3 is wild) In fact the highest rated SR game was 4

Saints Row 2 is my favorite Xbox 360 game of all time, but god DAMN did I forget about the Tera Patrick DLC. That voice acting is almost as bad as RE4 Remake Ada.

If we’re putting up against games of its generation I’d say it’s on par with GTA 4 and it’s sequel if not better.

Letting your characters make critical mistakes is good writing. The Boss getting Johnny stabbed was huge.
