I really recommend people picking up Saints Row 1, playing that game then moving straight to SR2 is such a perfect transition, and if anything, allows for you to enjoy SR2 even further as there are many arcs that get wrapped up or continued in the game. It's brilliant writing!
the problem is, Saints Row 1 still is trapped on X360, if the game was ported to PC or even PS3 back in the day (as I poured hours into 2, 3 and 4 on PS3), I would play.
@@atomic747 That's a shame :( Yeah I can imagine how it'd hit different if you entered later on or something. Going back to the first game after mostly having played 2+, was rather disorienting. But it is workable. It's just a more simplified SR2 control scheme. Largest change for what I can recall would be the lack of an aiming system. What's crazy is that the amazing story of Saints Row 2 happened only because some animators got lazy with the final cutscene of the first game and then they had to work around that laziness for the sequel.
This is an exaggeration. It was just planned to originally be Troy who set the bomb but SR2 would have turned it mostly the same (not sure about the life support aspect though, maybe it wouldn't exist?)
@@stoptiktok1691 ...Not only did you destroy your own argument, I'm not entirely sure where you got info about Troy. Life support aspect is absolutely critical to the story, given that Troy is the sole reason that Playa survived for this long.

The explosion was always meant to happen, but Julius' betrayal wasn't. You can hear this in a commentary some of the developers made on a Livestream. They talk about how Jim Boone the creative director (not sure if it was him or another person), changed it at the last minute to include Julius' betrayal. Then they comment on having to make the cutscene in a day in order to meet the deadline for the games realease. They even comment on the fact that Julius' doesn't have a watch on his wrist when he looks down to check the time. They rushed the final cutscene of the game due to time constraints and re-writes at the end of the development cycle.
After 10+ years and upon hearing about the existence of the reboot (after SR3 when I heard about ufos in the sequel I lost interest in the franchise up until last week), I installed SR2 and have been playing it non stop, already at 30 hours and I'm only now about to take out the gangs. I'm having fun, and as much as I feel inclined to be horrified at where the series went/is going, I'm thankful we have the originals available to us. Saints Row 2 is so memorable, even as a kid when I could only speak basic English and had no clue what they were really saying, I loved the story and the characters. It was brutal, funny, exciting, hilarious. Playing it again, I'm loving it even more. No rose tinted glasses. I was thinking of reinstalling SR3, but recalling how much of what I loved in SR2 (so many customisation options, the mission system, GAT, the badass Boss who I love to bits, the overall tone... a lot of things) are missing from SR3, I'm sticking to playing 2.
Honestly SR3 is the best when you just want to do random nonsensical activities and not do the story, whenever i fire up the game i just ended up spending hours and hours of doing all kinds of weird shit and forgot the time.
@@xastielmuffinz3047 I remember having lots of fun rampaging all around Steelport, and saying to myself that using cheats doesn't take away from the experience. At that time I also remember not finding fault with... anything, really, I was just going with whatever the game threw my way and enjoyed it without question - from story to missions to the tone.
Ngl i wish you mentioned the voice acting in this one. Just beat the game after 7+ years and I was blown away by how the VAs made the characters come to life like Johnny and Pierce. I still think whoever did the hispanic voice for the boss is the best one to this day thanks to his ruthless yet sarcastic tone, 10/10 easily!
The fact that Stillwater is ironically the least still of all places in the entire franchise with NPCs living day to day life with unique interactions is what makes it my favorite. They even have an entire recreation center modeled and enterable. Complete with courts for indoor sports. And they do nothing with it. That's commitment right there.
The reboot is basically killbanes and shogos quote in video game form. "The saints legacy ends here, not with a bang but with a whimper" "I don't know how far my shame could extend"
Which sounds better as a story for a saints row game: Waking up from a coma and slowly taking over the city after being betrayed by your mentor/friend Or Starting a gang to pay student loans and to buy a waffle maker
Saints Row 2 still the best in the series. They could have just remastered SR2, slapped on the DLC's, and called it a Complete Remaster Edition and I'd have bought it up.
On subsequent playthroughs I’ve always done the Julius mission as soon as possible. The reward is a really nice chunk of change right at the start of the game.
The funniest thing about SR2 is that the story wouldn't have been like that if it weren't for the animators in SR1 getting lazy with the ending cutscene that made Julius look sus, thus making it look like Juluis planned or was part of the plan to kill the Player. The original ending was supposed to be Julius limping from an alleyway iirc.
Yooo, i enjoyed the way you talked about the game. Thank you, i had a blast playing it when it came out ( was 19 years old back then). I just wanted to say thank you i guess, i had my fun with sr2
1 thing that always bothered me about this game is that when you save Johnny, you realize the Boss entered from the backroom of the courthouse in the cutscene, meanwhile they should've entered from the side you end up leaving. Similarly there's 2 missions at the 3/4 point of the game where the mission start point is in the wrong spot to where the cutscene(and gameplay starts). But then when you beat the mission, you respawn at the mission start point way tf out there away from where it just ended.
