I came to this video after seen a life performance in the 60s on UA-cam. I got bit curious, because she seem to be a funky girl when she was young and I just want to see what girls like that are like later in life as an old lady. Seem...very nice.

You can see the emotion in Michelle’s eyes when she made the special tribute at the end recognizing Cass. You can tell that she had a deep love for her, and losing her was a deep loss in her life.
This was about Cass. So happy to see that. John, Denny & the lovely Michelle were all class here.

Denny Doherty was a class act. Natural entertainer. He had one of the best singing voices of all time. Even up to his unfortunate passing he still had a great voice.

That’s how I first discovered the music of The Mamas and the Papas! Plus, Theodore Tugboat was still in production in 1998 when the group got inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and Denny said at the time that people recognized him just as much for being the Harbormaster as they did for him being Denny Doherty of The Mamas and the Papas!! 😊❤️
when Denny died i was heart broken i knew him well he lived in Halifax Nova Scotia he was a train conductor in a kids program he will be missed he had shared with me a lot about the Mamas and the papas he got me hooked on there music i am and will remember him with a warm heart and ear to ear smile
He was the Harbour Master on Theodore Tugboat, and (I think) the voice of Theodore as well.

I remember this night! Watching this on tv with two of my all time favorite artists being awarded, The Mama’s and the Papa’s,,,,,,and,,,,Fleetwood Mac! I was sick with bronchitis and in my room at home in the mountains,,, with snow ❄️ all around my window,,, and fresh powdered snow falling,,,,,, with my two beautiful kitties taking care of me!! And watching this, and reruns of a brand new HILARIOUS tv show called South Park,,, although I was feeling bad, I was having a great time doing it!! ❤❤❤

Up to now 2021, I'm still listening to the songs of the MAMAs and the PAPAs especially 'CALIFORNIA DREAMIN' a simple song & lyrics, wrote by John & Michelle Phillips during their heydays.
Wow,Casse’s daughters look a lot like her ,miss Cass ,but still a great tribute .

Denny is so amazing, I love how he mentioned Cass first and acknowledged Owen. Cass and Denny are the reason for the groups fame and success, yes John wrote a lot and Michelle was there but Cass and Denny didn't need them. The music and the songs live on. Like a Picasso or a Van Gogh, immediately recognizable for the totally unique sounds. Great comfort in the music of childhood. Adults weren’t the first fans. 10 and 12 year olds were the first fans.

When I purchased my first stereo system in 1968, there was only enough $ left over for two albums - the first one I purchased was "Dream A Little Dream of Me", by Mama Cass.
1974 was such a heavy year. Cass died not to mention Jacqueline Sussan (Valley Of The Dolls) & Ed Sullivan. Can you imagine how sad and surreal it is to accept for your Mother/Father who is no longer alive. When The Temptations got a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award the Children of David Ruffin, Paul Williams, Dennis Edwards, Eddie Kendricks & Richard Street accepted as well as Melvin Franklin. Only Otis Williams was there to collect his Trophy.
God she is beautiful.

Whoa. I knew Hal Blaine and Larry Knecktel played for The Beach Boys on the Pet Sounds tracks as part of the Wrecking Crew, but I didn’t know they also backed the Mamas and the Papas! Super cool!
The late Eddie hoe was another drummer that toured and played with them at Monterey. Hal played along side Eddie towards the end of the gig to “Dancing in the street💕” I’m surprised Michelle failed to mention Eddie🤔

I saw a yt video It was the Carol Burnett show and Cass was the featured singer and I w was surprised she had a great voice and can really sing, and I have a different respect for her and it's sad she was not there to get the award

She was a very important member - but John and Michelle wrote most of the songs and John created the incredible harmonies. Denny had that very distinctive tenor, that caracterized the songs.
So it was a teamwork.
You know... I just found about these guys and am searching for their songs and interviews and whatever. Many people like you seem to attribute all of the success of a BAND to a single person in it. I tell you, if I just heard her singing I wouldn't have even batted an eye to look them up. I heard their style and their harmony and it grabbed me! I heard great VOICES that complimented each other - not a single good voice and 3 backup singers. STOP saying this - it devalues the effort of the whole group and makes you look like an ass.

I don't think, John Phillips got the credit he deserved for the faboulous harmonies he created for their songs - most of which, I believe, he wrote.
He actually wrote lits of incredible songs I've been learning about his talent lately. But drugs ruined him and can't wrap my head around that sort of stupidity and weakness.

Today is Monday, January 15th 2024. I was on youtube today to listen to Monday, Monday when I saw this video and watched it too. 1 member had passed and now 1 member survives. It makes me sad. Not depressed or anything, but when I was a kid, I guess I figured they'd always be around. I suppose I treated the bands I listened to as superheroes, not subject to the same rules of us mortals. I suppose a regret of mine is being too naive as a child or not taking life seriously enough, because I would have liked to have met many artists who've since passed.
The Mamas & and Papas music is so great. I love how they harmonize. I do think Michelle and Cass (and Karen Carpenter) are 3 of the best voices this world has been blessed with, so I listen to their music on youtube fairly often.
I am sorry that I never could see the Mamas & the Papas in person, let alone meet them. Maybe there might be a chance to meet Michelle someday and listen to her stories. But I'm sure that day will never come. Best I can do is say - if you happen to read this - continue to carry the torch for as long as you can, share stories, and help others with the gift that you brought to this music world. I'll look around for a youtube channel of yours to see if you happen to have any music you're doing maybe with family or others. I love your voice, I love your music, and I love that 3 of you were able to be present at the HoF induction. One day I hope to visit there. Thank you for you and yours.

Michelle is the last surviving member. The other 3 all died too young, but they punished their bodies. Even Michelle is now looking older than her years (2022 age 76 I think)
