Yeah, it doesn't really blow me away. I sold my EOS-R last week to see what to get next. The A7SIII I like because of smaller file sizes especially and very good video quality. But that 12 MP is sooo limiting (as a hybrid shooter) I would have to spend another $3k on a good photo camera. The R6 has better IQ than the A7SIII (lower noise (shocking), slightly shaper), but the file sizes are big and there is the heating issue. 20 MP seems a bit low to me (coming from 30MP 5D and R) as well.
The A7RIV looks great all around, especially for the price, but the high ISO noise for photo isn't great (lots of shadow noise) and the video tech, while great, isn't cutting edge.
R5 is a great balance at 45MP with industry leading video, but the video file sizes are massive and there are the overheat issues.
@@77dris I wouldn't call it "industry leading video" with the overheating issue. But the R5 is a good stills camera.
Let me put it this way, this is a video camera with shit stills. R5/R6 is better for stills but have limited but good video. No IBIS. The price, R6 is cheaper. If you going full video, this is ur camera... but if u need stills or hybrid, r5/r6 is better. If this was priced at r6, this definitely beat Canon. Exceed expectation? Overheating as well. Seems really bias review especially when you straight out compare it to Canon. By the way, i have use Sony and Canon, each has its strength n weakness.
Honestly, in every video I've seen of this camera, I've been really disappointed with the video quality. It's kind of soul crushing because I woke up early to pre-order it. It just feel really muddy, and lacks any pop. I love the auto-focus, but man, I really wish the images looked better. The specs seem great ON PAPER, but in actual reality, for pure video, the blackmagic cameras look better to me, the S1H looks better to me, and even the R5 looks better to me. This camera just really doesn't have that "wow" factor at all. Like if you showed someone footage of it who had no clue it was a brand new A7S3, I doubt they would be blown away by it. But I do love the Sony system and I do really admire how great that auto-focus is. I just cannot get hyped. Really wish the FX9 costed just a little less.
@@renestaempfli1071 Don't forget A7s3 also has overheating issue when shooting 4K120 outdoor as mentioned so many reviewers. "Industry-leading video" capability I guess is on the resolution "8K". A7s3 has no 8K is a fact, and many 8K sources produced by R5 users are sharing all around. A7s3 has great improvement as Sony mirrorless camera has many problems that need to be fixed, like response of touch screen, no flipping screen, etc. So, A7s3 is definitely a good choice for Sony users if they don't mind it can only take 12MP photos.
Great video, and my goodness.... that 4K 120fps footage is like my screen is a window. Absolutely stunning, can't wait to get my hands on this baby!
I was looking for reviews and immediately I saw Max i knew I have gotten the right review. Thank you Max
you had the freaking camera this whole time???
I know, these guys lied to our faces!!!
At least we know why they bashed Canon 😂😂😂 Disgusted.
@@mohdnorazmil they have had it for a month!!!! I can imagine
@@nyambeppl still blame Canon for marketing the 8k and not as stills, see some comments here. Man... some ppl can't tell the they getting played. Anyways, after seing the reviews, people should figure it out themselve but better get reviews from unbias channel.
Yeah potato jet got his review sample a few weeks b4 the canon r5
Thanks Max. Yours are always the first reviews I watch because of your detail. Still looking forward to my Canon R5 for hybrid usage and may pick this up used next year.
Max, great shots of the family! That sony footage looks wonderful.
Thank you. I wish I could have made it a lot better. I only got my hands on the camera a 4 ago and spent all my time on this, had a 22 hour work day yesterday to get it done, shot my script at 4AM and posted at 7 lol. Some people got the camera up to 2 weeks ahead of time. I have 20X the footage but decided to make the video short so could barely fit anything. Will need to make a more typical 30 min one later lol.
Can’t believe you have it, my treasure...
Max, congratulations on your success sir. For Sony to let you shoot with the camera then drop a day 1 video is awesome.
Excited for your next video.
Thanks! Great info! Looking forward to a practical guide in what compression/mode to use in certain situations (studio/outdoors/night etc.).
This video is really detailed well. Thanks a lot ☺️
Best in-depth review as always. Thanks Максим!
Short and very informative, thank you very much 🙂
Great review!
Dude, that was an incredible review, best I've seen. Thanks for the very technical review.
Much appreciated!
Amazing review Max. You helped me make my decision with Sony
Most helpful camera reviewer in all of UA-cam.
Thanks for including the HD samples.
Glad that they gave one to you
solid review Max....looks like a huge winner!
Thanks! This is quite informative to decide my mind!
Thanks a lot for the video! It was very informative!
Wonder review. What a nice person. Such good information. Thank you.
Fantastic info! Thank you!
Great review! Really informative. Thanks!
Great work Max!!! I have an old Átomos Ninja Inferno. What will I be able to achieve with this camera?!
9:15 Max have the unit number 921, that means there will be at least about 900 hands-on reviews on youtube\internet today.
This was my thinking.
No! haha! For me the first 9 is just a batch number
@@brianckelley how do you find the rest?
@@pcofranc I don't hunt down every single video on a topic I'm interested in. The YT algorythm chooses what I get an impression of based on what I've watched.
Every time I watch a Max video his beard is a little longer 😍
hahah :) I'm on my way.
Hehe, spot on. 😅👍
Another great vid! Please please, a Sony a7S3 vs canon R6 comp vid... that would be the bomb diggity!
MAX... i don't know what it is but your reviews are always so concise, yet so thorough. As a technologist and photo/video enthusiast, I always come back to get the gist of things from you before considering buying or what to avoid, etc. Thanks for all your hard work! //g
lol forgot to comment about the camera... it sounds absolute legit. I may consider this after more colour testing... right now I am still rocking my a6400 and still fairly happy with it (only use it for video). Thanks again
just a wild guess... but maybe its because his reviews are always so concise, yet so thorough??
I love this camera
Looking forward to the editing options and performance tests on my I Mac -
Best coverage so far :-)
Dope thanks for the video.
Thank you! Would really love to see the Sony vs R6...
Great job Max.
Thanks! I wish I could have done it better. I only got mine 4 days ago and spent all my time testing and pulled an all nighter getting the video done to post (at 6:51am when embargo was 7am) Some others got them 2 weeks before lol. Oh well. I can do a follow up better one. I have 10x the footage to share as well but wanted to make this video shorter and had almost no room for footage. Wish I got more B-roll too but oh well.
- DR please (including highlights! recovery AND shadows recovery)
- Continuous AF in low light tracking a person moving towards us!
THANK YOU!!
on youtube, your review is the most reliable
Max, the Sony A7iii has a x1.2 crop in 4K 30p, does the A7S iii camera also have a crop in 30p 4K?
Only a slight crop in 120p 4k
Nope, no crop thankfully. 4K 60 also no crop. 4K 120 has a slight crop (1.1x) but that just goes to 1:1 UHD readout which is why there is no "actives stabilization" mode since its already 1:1.
Max can you review the low light capabilities vs the a73 and a few other models like you have done in the past?
Max you told us the razer studio could do 8k well when are you going to test the 8core 5000 version??
Thanks for the video! Has the highlight roll-off been improved over the A7iii?
oh stop it darrell
Yes please to the Sony vs Canon comparison! Another great review video, thank-you!
Sony vs. Fuji would be nice ;) Great Channel guys - love it!
I dont know exactly what Max but there is something in your and your brother’s voice that keeps me to this channel Also I would really like to know more about you Maybe a office tour or a day in life The thing is that anybody without any tech knowledge can watch your videos and understand
Because they are russians like Everythingapplepro? I thought Max is a daddy to Vadim :) but they are brothers haha
Interproservice How do you know this? Have they ever mentioned anything?
Please make a video comparing it to the S1H!
Please bring back camera and lens reviews on this channel! Miss you!! 😢
Max. Great review, as always---clear and concise. I just have one question for you: how is the peaking feature now? It's been horrible in the past. Have they improved its look and accuracy. As a manual shooter that's REALLY important to me.
Good job.
Max... Your videos are awesome. I'm not a camera guy so maybe that is where it starts but do you ever stop to breathe? The data, testing, and details fly at you so fast for a full 11 minutes. Haha. Silence and pauses I think would help with the flow and viewing pleasure of your viewers. Keep up the great work. Love it!
I really tried to make it 10 min lol. Usually this video would be 25min long but I wanted to make a short one. I also worked all day and night to make it, and shot the video at 4am and rush edited and finished at 6:51 am to post at 7 so I was out of it when shooting.
@@MaksimYuryev I totally get it. You're a saint for sticking to your release schedule and producing highly technical and enjoyable content. That was just the feeling I had when I finished watching and thought I would mention it. Hope it helps you have a differentv point of view. Not meant to be disparaging or discouraging to you.
The first time I saw Max on UA-cam he was reviewing the Sony A6300 Mirrorless. I needed a companion Mirrorless to go with my Nikon D810. I used Max's link and ordered my A6300 from B&H. Thank you again Max! Your reviews are one of the very few on UA-cam that are 100% trustworthy!
It will ve cool if you make a video with your recommended settings once you get a final production unit.
Awesome review. Could you do photo comparisons between a7iii and a7siii. I mostly do video with an a7iii but I’ve really gotten attached to the photo side.
Hi Max ! Do you will make a match A7SIII vs S1H ? It will be very interesting ! ✌🏻😉 Thanks for your work ! I love your videos !
Looks like a great camera ! Nice short informative review Max !
Super clean image. Surprised you didn't mention the improved menu system.
I did :) this is basically a 20 min video in 11 min lol.
@@MaksimYuryev You did get a lot in there! Good job as usual.
Excellent review as always. Max does it crop the 240p in Hd?
I would LOVE to see a Sony A7SIII vs A7III comparison
You grew a massive beard waiting for this camera :-D
You mentioned a low-light comparison with A7Sii but on the screen it says A7iii. Which one is it?
My bad. The first one at 100K ISO was against the a7sii. The 12K was against a7iii.
@@MaksimYuryev perfect thanks!
Hey Max!
Love your videos man, but please try to implement time chapter things into your videos :D
those are very useful, especially on longer videos
4k 120fps with audio! Awesome!!!
Helpful! Wondering how a MacBook Pro 16” handles editing the footage 🤔 Also is there any file size and quality different when shooting 420 10-bit vs 422 10-bit?
It struggles a lot, I have to make proxy’s
Great! Waiting for the review of editing processing on imac pro and compere with Canon R5 )))
Great review Max, can't wait to get my hands on this sucker!! It would be awesome if you could do a really in-depth test comparison of 4k 60 and 120 fps in various codecs/bitrates/bit-depth and how the performance was when editing all that footage in Premiere Pro. I'm very curious how the new XAVC HS codec compares with the XAVC S-I and whether there is any real world advantage to using the much higher bitrate one. Also how does H.264 10-bit compare with H.265 10-bit. Thanks!
Sounds really good. I would like to see an auto focus comparison VS the eosr5 dual pixel ll focusing. To see who is king of auto focus.
Thanks for the video.
Now lets see if this can be graded in the ipad pro :D
Спасибо за видео!
Hi max please make a video on editing the footages from this camera like you did on eos r5. Need to see how the macbook pro 16 and mac pro perform.
I believe native for s-log 3 is actually 640, it lets you sacrifice highlight dynamic range with expanded iso, and rate it at 160 though
max, will you make a comparison video about 1080p quality versus a7iii? i heard that a7s3 does not have line skipping and pixel binning just downsampled from 4k. As I still use 1080p mainly, i would like yo see the quality. I always thank you for 1080p compasion your video but I can't find any for this time. Love you always :)
Hey Max, please make a video comparison with the Sony a73 stabilisation with something like a gimbal or even a Panasonic camera. You did once a video comparing the GH5 image stabilisation with a gimbal.
Please make comparison videos (with other brands..)
Do editing test just like canon r5
Because both shoot in same codecs
man, looks like it’s time for me to get one.
I'd like to see a comparison of the A7sIII Vs the A7III because of the oversampling from the A7III. You already showed some short clips and I'd like to see more. Gerald Undone showed that it seemed sharper and more detailed on the A7III because of the oversamplr, but he only had a short capture of it for us. Would be interesting to see if there's really such a big difference, how the Colour varies from 10Bit to 8Bit and how the improved color science looks in comparison. The A7III is probably one of the best known Sony cameras and therefore the best comparison.
Sony's new BIONZ processor is so efficient
They could add modern rounded corners to those menu icons like all phones does.
Please do editing performance tests on your Laptops. And FHD240p footage as well as original files to play with would be great!
Man it's pretty nice
But can you recommend a great camera with lenses under 2k? Thanks
First Max does a review then Sony does presentation.
Good that Sony knows its place.
@@ruslanr.6171 🤣🤣🤣🤣
So Max in your opinion, R5 or A7siii?
Could you do a low light performance test for a7siii vs a7iii
Sweet!
Amazing camera for sure! Well done, Sony! I will be sticking with my A7III / GH5 combo for now though and I'll wait and see what the A7IV has to offer! I think like the A7III Sony will hit the sweet spot with the A7IV with it's photo and video capabilities vs. price point.
What are you rocking now?
Is eye autofocus still enabled in video mode when connected to an HDMI monitor?
Yes. HDMI mode mainly changes different record outputs such as 4:2:2 10 bit in 4K and whatnot. All of the features of the camera remain though.
@@nathaneng1 SONY HAS DONE THIS RIGHT!!!
Yes, Gerald Undone did the test. You lose nothing by plugging in an external recorder. Not only that, but you can record to both cards while also recording HDMI RAW to an Átomos. This camera is freaking perfect.
Firing on all points. Sony outdid itself with this camera. Even on UA-cam even with it compression. The pics and video came through clearly. You can see a difference.
You showed how good it is.The information shows were it shines and were it does not.
Good Video 😎
they literally address all the issue they had. all the issue why i chose GH4 over A7S back then. this is the perfect camera for me
Great video like always ! So if im mostly using it on 4k 60fps what card do you recommend for the highest quality and cheaper option card? Sandisk, Sony M, or G card? Do the difference in those matter? Thanks man!!
ProGrade v90 works for me, records everything except S-I 4k120/1080p240
Is 6:08 using the 'active tracking' along with Lens OIS? Thanks for the great content!
Looks like you went to Silverwood!
Just a doubt. What picture profile are you using in the A7III for low light? My experience with this camera in slog 2 or 3 is too noisy where as the mode without picture profiles look much cleaner... Am I doing something wrong? Thanks for the help and also for the excellent review!!!
@ 8:00 in the comparison HEVC 10/4:2:2/100 is slightly out of focus - that's probably why you thought it's the worst. h.264 8/4:2:0/100 is also slightly out of focus compared to other two codecs - it is visible by the size of the bokeh of the light leaking from the hole on the background :D
Great compact and detailed review Max! Lookin forward to get this Sony baby in my hands. I am going to shoot a music video soon with the A7iii mostly in ext. nite situations with a prepared PP2 for better blacks - taking a nice "lift" into grading. - was wondering - how much quality margin i could win if the a7s iii would be available allready (in Berlin she is just going to be released.) - Did you ever had some comparison between the 16 Bit Raw footage (via hdmi) from the "old" Sony versus X-AVC 422 / 420 10bit/8bit in Resolve for grading? was 16 bit Raw ever available befor with the "outsourcing" signal path trick via hdmi? Cheers
S-Cinetone testing would be great content when available. It seems like a very interesting mode.
it doesnt have it
Sean Visser ah too bad. I thought the rumor sites claimed it. No matter, the other modes works perfectly for most folks. It just seemed like a cool trade off between delivery ready, log-like and in-camera grading.
Its a color science bruh, not a picture profile
Faris Radzuan maybe bad wording. On FX9 there are at least two different settings call S-Cinetone, either gamma curve or image matrix. Affecting the image and colors in different ways. And you could shoot S-Cinetone for delivery or for s-log. You could over expose and under expose in delivery ready formats without unwanted effects, the extremes behaved like log while most of the image behaved like a traditional image, and it looked very good. If a7s3 behaves in similar manner in delivery ready images that’s really cool.
@@theblizza Has been updated and is now PP 11
Currently closer to 5k in Germany. Gotta wait for the prices to drop at least 1k.
Hey Max, do you think that the Sony E-Mount is limited in size and hence the quality produced by the lenses when compared with the Canon RF-Mount & Nikon Z-Mount?
Waiting for comparison with EOS 45
Amazing review. But hey, we're talking MAX here, so no surprise! LOL
Max, can you tell us how the photos are? I'm primarily a videographer, but would still need to shoot pictures. And of course, how does it compare to the R5 and R6, for video, photo, and multi-purpose use? Thank you for all you do!
I’m curious about the 16 bit raw. How much better should that be than the Canon. Don’t they have 12 bit raw?
Yeah, Media can be confusing, I hope somebody makes a nice Table with ALL the recording modes as Rows and All the Cards (V30,60,90,CF) as colums, and Have X or Checkmarks where they are compatible. That would be soooo helpful. Great video btw :)
Here you go. Keep in mind at the top where it says up to 120P and V60 required that is V60 require if you're doing 4K 120FPS and the bit rate is 200Mb/s (or 280Mb/s for 10 bit) If you're going to do 4K up to 60FPS you only need a U3 card (or V30). even if its the same 200Mb/s that the 4K 120 uses and it "needs" a V60. drive.google.com/drive/folders/1LNN9hvpvVEAQifD-1UDs2EubGvvt9i4W?usp=sharing
