FX30 seems like a great camera for filmmakers who are going to set up shots and do their own lighting. For run and gun weddings, I agree that the 12 MP Full Frame is going to be tough to beat. I filmed weddings on the A7sII and A7iii for years with few issues and effectively no grain issues.

What would you say about the a7sii? It’s significantly cheaper, I’m recording classical concert that last for an hour and a half and looking for a good 24fps 4k option to do this, knowing there’s a low-light but not drastic as this is a long shot (therefore using the 4k) - would you say I’ll be better waiting to have the money to get the a7siii? Or the a7sii will do the trick? I’d love if you’ll have the time to share :)

@@jonathanelboim7338 The 1st and 2nd gen A7s have record limits of 30 minutes. Then they will stop and need to be restarted. The A7sIII (3rd gen) doesn't have this issue if I'm not mistaken, so that might be the best for you of the S-series. You could also look to the A7 IV, as that also doesn't have a record limit I don't think and should do well in lower light. I've been away from the game for a minute, so double-check on all this. The S-series and A7sIII will probably be the best still for low light and record time, but if you paired the A7 IV with a low-light lens, that might be a cheaper way to accomplish something similar. That could be a good option if you're just setting up on a tripod and don't need to deal with your focal point changing.

I am mainly a filmmaker. I think I've taken 5 maybe 10 pictures with my A7iv. The FX30 is more fitting to my needs. So, I'm selling my A7iv for the FX30. A couple more reasons why are 1) the timecode output. Which is very important for filmmaking. 2) Recording externally in 16-bit RAW video. Which is good for visual effects. Having worked on over 40 feature films as a visual effects artist, I will take advantage of the 16-bit output on many occasions.

Nice job! A7siii with 16-35 PZ for real estate/architectural videos, light setup with great low light performance. Just picked up the FX30 as a 2nd camera with the 20-70 PZ, this will be used for outdoors, details and longer views...also a 2nd camera for interviews....and for stills it's the Nikon gear...Kinda like to keep video cameras and photo cameras separate. Coming from a Z6 to the A7siii, had a chance to video the same home I shot with the Z6, which had challenging light, the difference in richness of color and lower noise is noticeable.

The way I look at it, you get the FX3 with the A7S III, but the FX30 will match much better with A7 IV or A7C II, which are sharper and in APS-C mode are about 24MP. the crop at 120 and lowlight is only reason imma stick with the s3. only got annoyed when you kept saying s3 is hybrid. but in reality you are right. maybe back in the day the s line meant more cinema but that is only in relation to the other a7 group (a7_, a7s_, a7r_). and i also understand in this context the fx30 is definitely more video focused. if it wasn't for lowlight capabilities and 4k120 crop the fx30 at 1/2 cost is definitely the better buy (IMO), cause you can buy 2 of them to run whatever you want, would be perfect for podcast and streaming budgets. active cooling is major also. and being cropped you just buy a sigma lens 3 pack and you ready to go to be honest, and you have access to that creamy f1.4 goodness for the low. I think in the near future i will get it simply for the fact that 2 full frame lenses right now gonna run me basically the cost of the fx30, while i have multiple crop lenses available that arent being used currently. sigma 16, 30 and a few more. i want to see how well the pancake kti lens runs on the fx30. the 16-35 if i remember right. that would be a crazy run n gun setup. arguably fit in a pocket.

NZD $6100 + cost of lenses for A7Siii vs NZD $3500 and I can use my existing APS-C lenses, and my ZV-1/ZV-10 can be used for what little photography (mostly close up stuff) I do. I had been waiting for an fx6 and they have been outta stock since the pandemic began. We shoot mostly Blackmagic, but I own a A7IV, A9, and a A7RIII.
I happen to be looking around at the Fx3 and the Fx30 for a few weeks and I happen to look at the A7siii and saw one in the next nearby state at a Bestbuy. We took the hour trip.
I saw one that was an open box along with a new one in store and I wanted to know what was wrong with the open box. Well the actual box said residue along with the listing on the website.
I had them open up the box and everything was there and the body looked brand new, but it was missing the body cap. The price was 2729.99.
I was expecting a torn up box with no manuals or anything and scratches or stickers on the body from maybe being a demo model, but no the box looked brand new and all of the other accessories were included.
I have the total tech plan, which isca 60vday warranty and I can return it up to 60 days. I bought a body cap at 8.39 and the camera was 2978.00 with tax included. I decided to buy the camera after testing it in store.
My decision was made for me at 778.00 off. I will use it until my fx6 gets in stock and I will then use it as a B cam.
The deal was too good to pass up even for an Fx3. I'm taking it home now as my wife drives and I set up the menus.

Ill be getting my fx30. I wanted the fx3 and by the time it was on pre order i can actually get it but i choose not to because i used the money for something more important hence i just bought the a6600. Hoping sony would give a firmware update to enable gyro and have it compatible with catalyst browse since the rx0 ii has it and a6600 was their flagship apsc at that time and even when the zv-e10 was released. So please SONY if you are reading the comments section. So back to fx30. Now i think it is more justifiable to get the fx30 that i think i can still use if my channel get more subs or grow. Than just having a6600 that has horrendous rolling shutter (firmware update can change this by enable to choose a down sample 6k or a true 4k might help) and without proper stabilization like active steady shot and catalyst browse. But im still hoping that SONY will give a6600 owners the update I mentioned. I will still buy the FX30 even if they give the mentioned update to a6600 and will use the a6600 as b cam and thumbnail shooter.
