I didn’t “need” another camera I already had more than I “need” but I ordered one based of the colors you got out the shot of your daughter. I have NEVER seen skin tones like that out of any of my Sony’s.

I ordered on B&H at 9:01 EST USA and seems that Sony is giving privilege to some people instead of taking care of their loyal money-spending customers.............hmmmmmmmmm
About the no S35 crop in 4K: one way to work around it that I’ve tested on the A7SIII, is to use Clear Image Zoom.
One of my fellow video shooters wanted to still use the Sirui Anamorphic 50mm 1.8, and we found that using Clear Image Zoom at about 1.3x to 1.5x (maximum) gives enough coverage. You’ll still be able to record in 4K 60p. And you won’t really notice any quality loss.

I really hope since you have done this for so long, that you will never change your style. This video you said you were not going to do an exausting review, which is true, it was very informational withput being boring. But you went so deep into so much I loved it. Another polished and well-balanced video. Thanks for putting it together Caleb. I'm sorely tempted by the A7S3 to compliment my GH5 and GH5S shoot kit. The autofocus and ability to punch in to check focus while recording are the main draws. The other features would just be gravy. So nice to have all these amazing cameras but so tough to choose these days. I'm probably going to wait and see what the C70 and FX6 bring to the party before pulling the trigger. What do you think?

I love how he's talking about the color space improvements on the a7S III when UA-cam compression added so much banding.
Hybrid cameras have gotten so good at video these days that we're only really dealing with differences on the margins. You can make great-looking videos with just about anything today if you understand lighting. All other things being equal, would I rather have a 10-bit 4:2:2 camera? Of course. But that a7 III does not suck for video and is totally usable in 97% of circumstances.
Have you tried grading a7iii footage? It isn't too bad but log is not usable in real world scenarios (not controlled lighting) so there goes the dynamic range.
Steven Useda It’s most definately useable...I have literally shot every video in the last year in slog2 on my a7iii, even at night. And I don’t do subtle grades most of the time
itnrnt I'm glad it works for you but I've found noise and banding that isn't acceptable to me. I started using a pocket 4K for about a year and the difference between 8 and 10 bit is huge (talking about 10 bit prores) but who am I to tell you differently. If it works well for you and you like your footage that's all that matters. I just didn't like mine on the a7iii even though I still love it for pics I try not to use it in video (especially in 1080p as I've found it's so soft it looks borderline out of focus)
Steven Useda I grade A7iii footage all the time. In HLG it’s amazing. Seriously powerful. Slog is fine too, but not my fav. But then I’m never pushing the grade hard, cause why would I want to anyways. If one can’t make a good image from the A7iii then the camera isn’t the issue. It’s a powerful camera
@@stevenuseda6317 Did you overexpose slog2? Cause you gotta over expose it in the alpha series, than bring it back in post. But I dont think its worth to shoot in slog at 8 bit....
I used this camera for a few days and after Pre Ordered 3 of them for production work. Love it, what a big difference an all around camera that just works really good.

I heard they edit like a dream.... where as R5 is horrible to edit.
Magick Metaphysics yeah, the R5 and R6 shoot H.265. Those files are half the size but not yet optimized on computers.
Benny Amst XAVC HS is h.265. The other XAVC codecs without the H are h.264.

Can confirm R5 is in my opinion very frustrating to edit... You have to make proxys or transcode. My i9 can't really handle it
It’s not perfect, but can’t you use 4K clear image zoom instead of HD super-35 mode?
My A7SIII has shipped. I will have it in my hands on Thursday (pacing back and forward with gimbal in hand).
this is such a proper video dude, seriously so so well put together and really gave me all the information I needed about video on this camera! I'm definitely still going to stick with the a7iii for another year or two but this will definitely be a good option once I need that 4k 120fps which would be amazing honestly

Great video , what's your take on canon R5 video capabilities ??
The very first video I saw about the a7siii I immediately noticed the improved color science. I noticed there is a lot more saturation in the shadows compared to other cameras and less saturation in the highlights, like actual cinema cameras do. Wish you could do more videos on color science since it’s most interesting for me!
What about this "dual iso" thing with the A7sIII? Is the low light performance still similar?

Just wait until after the staged alien invasion and they start releasing advanced technology to the public.
Cameras have been shooting in 4k120fps for many many years now, this isn't even the first one to do it in a small body. Look at the Zcam E2 that released late 2018 that can shoot 4k160fps. But yeah this isn't something new sony is doing especially since they are using a low megapixel sensor to get the job done

Another vote for the comparison with BMD PC 6K. It seems to me that the BMD option is much more attractive: much cheaper, much higher resolution, and with the ability to shoot RAW. On paper the BMD 6K is a clear winner.
People's Tech Channel of course not taking into account the weather sealing, battery life, sensor size, articulating screen, AF, etc. but that depends a lot on what you want to use it for.
That's right. Those are features of no importance to me, given that I shoot in studio. While 6k and RAW recording are very important for my work. Cheers.

I would be interested in a quality, color and noise performance comparison between the S5 and the A7s III. Looking at the specs, the A7s is superior, but I would be interested in seeing if the results are worth the massive price difference (Here in Germany the A7s costs more than double the price of a S5)

Hi. Do you get a jittery image on the A7SIII EVF when filming in the 4K S-I 10bit codec. It literally only occurs with this specific codec and is totally smooth with no issues in all other codecs. Main screen is smooth, just the EVF view. I’ve got the latest firmware, reset the camera and tried different lenses with the various stabilisations turn on and off. Wondering if this is just my unit or a more common problem nobody is talking about? Thanks.

Is it possible to run a boomed shotgun into the audio mini input? Also, thoughts on best wireless hot-shoe lav mics? Trying to stay away from the bulky XLM XLR adapter and just double mic via mini and hot shoe input.

Isn't the slightly green tinted S-log3 a way to counteract these magenta artefacts? Hence why the Arri Alexa and the FX9 also has a green cast...

I have definitely watched other videos, and I will always watch yours too. You do a great job.
There's one thing I wanted to ask that I didn't see anyone actually dive into: It's great that the Slog3's Base ISO has been lowered to 640, however, this is the first camera that allows you to go even lower than that with the extended ISO range. Everyone says that this costs you a bit of Dynamic Range. Sure, makes sense, but how much though? Is it noticeable? Is it great for a run and gun situation without an ND outside in the shade? I'm assuming it's fine 1 stop under, it must be, but I don't know, that's why I'm asking. Did you go lower than 640 in Slog3 outside?

I've just got mine but when I set the ISO to AUTO, it always goes to the maximum of 409600. Is my unit just faulty or is there something I'm missing here?

Hey Caleb, could you verify wether when you shoot in 4K you can use the clear image zoom mode? If yes, then theoretically one could get about 2.7K of resolution that way in a Super35 crop equivalent to the 1080p mode you mentioned . Most probably this would thus be the best option unless Sony decided to cripple clear image zoom on the A7SIII. Let know and thanks! :D

Why cannot they correct the magenta cast on the A7iii? Is not possibile via software or firmware updates to make the log profile more neutral and correct? 😕
