  • In this video, we fix a fridge that is no longer cooling at all - it is just making a clicking noise periodically.

    This video was spot on! I was able to order the exact part based on the information Joe gave. My husband changed the part in 15 minutes. Great Video! Awesome save for us especially the week before Christmas! Thank you for your information and sharing it on this venue!

      No problem glad it worked out for you! These days with the poor quality of new appliances do better off keeping your older stuff running anyway. I actually keep one of those kids in my toolbox just in case. Cheap insurance is the way I look at it

      @@JoesGarageProductionsLLC would you happen to know why that relay on the side might melt? My compressor would kick on, then shut off.. you could smell the burning plastic of the crumbled socket.. what could be the issue ?

    Hi. I've got a Whirlpool 11 cu foot fridge. Bought it new 7 years ago.
    The relay seems to be bad as it is open (no conducting) thru the two lower round holes.
    The compressor checks good (no shorts to tank and leads, all leads connect with each other.
    And the capacitor tests functional also.
    Question,.when I plug in the fridge a loud noise occurs from the compressor tank. It sounds like something is stuck. Could all of the tank check good but it be locked up and causing this loud noise?
    The fridge was working fine one day, and next day it made this sound and I noticed the fridge not cooling anymore in wither section.

    Thanks for the video. I’m having the same problem. I replaced the starter before I found your video, but I am still having the same problem. Compressor kicks on for about 5 seconds every 4-5 mins. Is it possible I got a bad starter? The refrigerator went through a flood about 15 inch of water.

    Hi , my fridge stops cooling like usual , the compressor start then make a noise like ( losing some power / click back ) then make another click and work again , btw the fridge doesn't make on/off cycle anymore and it keeps running the whole day without stopping .. i cleaned the coils / the fan spinning greatly , i can't feel any hot in the area except some warmness of the compressor . Can you help to identify the problem ? please

    I removed my old start relay / overload because it was clicking and not allowing the compressor to start, I used my multimeter on it and was dead.. so I bought one of those 3 in 1’s like you used, wired it up, and still nothing.. i tested the compressor windings and got good readings and it’s not shorted to ground either.. any ideas why it won’t kick on? Thanks!

      Are you getting line voltage at the compressor terminals when the computer/t-stat calls for cooling? If so, and you are sure the overload and starter are good, the compressor might be locked up.

    When my refrigerator is plugged into the electrical outlet behind the fridge, the fridge starts up, runs a few minutes and then the compressor shuts down. I change plugs on the same outlet, same thing. I take an extension cord and plug the fridge into an outlet in another room in the house, and the refrigerator works fine. I tried going to the electrical box and resetting the power and the outlet behind the fridge worked about 15 minutes and then the condenser shut down. Why would the fridge work fine using another electrical outlet in the house? Thank you.

      Test the outlet. May have a bad or incorrect ground connection. Remember the larger of the two straight plug connections is always the natural connection. The smaller of the two is always the hot wire.. The third round one on the bottom is the equipment ground connection. connection.

    Hi can you please tell me (or anyone for that matter) 😅 what to do with the condenser fan wires? I don’t see anywhere to connect them and can’t find anything about it anywhere. Also will a 1/12 to 1/5 hp work with a 1/4 hp compressor. I hooked it up without the fan but the compressor still isn’t starting up. Thanks very much and happy new years.

    When turned on, the fans are working, the clicking noise you mentioned is also happening. After leaving the fridge on for a while, the compressor feels warm to the touch. I have ordered the part you talked about, but wondered if the fact that the compressor feels warm might indicate that it would not be the starter.

    • @JoesGarageProductionsLLC
      @JoesGarageProductionsLLC  2 роки тому +1

      Nope, the compressor will still be warm if the starter is no good. Statistically it's probably the starter.

    I replaced the start device. It works for a while (three weeks to a month) and then the refrigerator returns to cold in freezer section but warm in the refrigerator section. How do I fix that?

    • @JoesGarageProductionsLLC
      @JoesGarageProductionsLLC  3 місяці тому

      You may have a problem with the defrost circuit on the freezer side. Take the back panel off and see if the evaporator coil is icing up. If it is that is likely your problem.

    Hi I have a question my Frigidaire refrigerator sometimes has an intermittent problem which is it keeps running and don’t defrost I replaced the sensor in the freezer and also the defrost timer it works for a while but then it goes back could this mean that there’s a short somewhere in the wire harness. The defrost timer is Genuine part .

      This is lately my favorite universal start + overload kit. It has provisions for a run capacity as well. if your application has one (yours probably doesn't). I've had pretty good luck with them. amzn.to/3MtPkHV

    Whirlpool Model #GD5RVAXVB00. Just installed new OEM Whirlpool Start Relay 2-days ago. But it's clicking now. I know this is a bad sign. But Start Relay is brand new. Compressor is shutting off when the Capacitor Overload kicks in. Don't know what to do. Please help as I need to get this fridge back working. Thanks kindly!

    • @JoesGarageProductionsLLC

      If new start components did not fix the issue, you may have a problem internally in the compressor (I would start by ohm'ing out the windings) or perhaps the brand new start components are bad (it happens)

    If the fan is still kicking, then it's the starter?
    Anyway I can tell if my compressor has gone bad?

    • @JoesGarageProductionsLLC
      @JoesGarageProductionsLLC  2 роки тому +2

      If the evaporator and condenser fans are still running and the compressor is not, statistically it's probably the starter. You can own out the compressor terminals but that will only tell you if the compressor is electrically okay and still isn't a guarantee.

    • @JoesGarageProductionsLLC
      @JoesGarageProductionsLLC  Рік тому

      @@nelsoncanelas1978typically when a refrigerator is low on a refrigerant, the compressor will get quieter, rather than louder, simply because it is not working as hard. In your case, based on the information you're providing, I would recommend checking the current draw of the compressor while it's running and compare that to its running load amperage. If you see a high reading there, that will confirm the compressor is going out on overload. That, combined with the loud noise, might suggest a liquid line restriction. I would then hook up a set of gauges to confirm. If you see an elevated high side pressure that would kind of confirm it. Obviously it's impossible for me to say for sure, not being able to see the refrigerator in person. But based on what you're telling me, that's what I would try next.
