    Thanks man. Same sound my fridge was making...but my relay was not rattling and I used a multimeter to test it. Had extremely high reading. Got a new one and voiler we were back in business.

    You are the Man. I was ready to scrap my 15 years old KitchenAid side by side fridge which I have in the garage, but I was thinking give it last shot and I changed relay which you're showing on the video. It did not clicked- it was dead with brawn burned spat on the bottom. Replaced and the fridge is working again ! Thank you

    Had 12 amps for 5 to 10 seconds then out. I thought was a locked compressor, even though the lock out rating on it was 14.1. After testing with a new relay it now running at 1.2 which is optimal health! The Samurai Repairman Rocks!!!

    Exact same issue with my Whirlpool fridge, unplugging the unit for 5 minutes would get the compressor started and running/cooling, then the very next cycle back to humming and click. Swapped out the starter relay, but that was only a temporary fix. Replaced the relay with a Supco 3 in 1 hard start kit and no issues so far, compressor runs normally all day long.

      @@jaygoss6632 Purchased mine on Amazon. If I remember correctly it was a matter of finding the model number of the compressor (Huayi B25H5 in my case) and Googling " starter relay". I found a relay that looked just like mine after some digging and go THAT model / part # and then found it on Amazon along with some pictures in the reviews of the relay sitting next to a compressor with the same model number printed on its side. Good luck! IIRC the "pin" count and location is the key thing you want to confirm before purchasing. Almost bought a 2-pin relay before realizing mine had only 1.

    • @AppliantologyOrg
      @AppliantologyOrg  4 місяці тому

      The PTC start device ("relay") and the overload should be sized for the compressor. Generally, they break out by horsepower group, 1/4 hp, 1/3 hp, etc. You can get the OEM replacement at an online parts store like Repairlinic or Appliancepartspros (two of my faves) by searching with your model number at their site.

    I am replacing the relay and overload on my Kenmore 596.58642890. We have them put on the compressor ( which we checked by Ohms and it looks good) cannot figure out the wiring. We are going from using 4 wires down to 3 and cann't get it to work. It does not have a capcitator that we could find. How do you know which wires go where. I have a white, blue, and a black split in 2? Any help would be appreciated.

    What is your rule of thumb to know when the amp draw of the compressor is indicating an imminent failure ?

    • @AppliantologyOrg
      @AppliantologyOrg  10 років тому +1

      On most modern home refrigerators, current draws much over 2 amps is a sign that the compressor has been damaged. The extra current draw will create excessive heat. This heat will compound the problem and cause early failure. I like to see current draws well under 2 amps.

    • @mohnewyork1082
      @mohnewyork1082 Рік тому

      @@AppliantologyOrg you mean if current draw over 2 amps it's mean the compressor is bad and if draw under 2 it's mean good?

    Hi, my name is Mike from Kenya. my Samsung refrigerator is powering on but won't start the compressor and it wont cool. what might be the problem?

  • @louisnichols
    @louisnichols 8 років тому

    Would the compressor get hot in this situation? I do hear that clicking sound, but the compressor is (very?) hot. The question mark is because I don't know what is normal in this case. It feels hot to the touch. I have a Samsung RSJ1KEPS

    • @AppliantologyOrg
      @AppliantologyOrg  8 років тому

      Yes, the compressor would be hotter than normal running temps. Typically too hot to comfortably touch.

    • @louisnichols
      @louisnichols 8 років тому

      OK, thanks! That's exactly how it feels. So I took down the part and will try to replace it. Unfortunately, it seems it is not available anymore. Hopefully I will find some equivalent...

    • @louisnichols
      @louisnichols 8 років тому

      Well, no joy. I got a new relay (quite expensive, but well...) and the compressor still won't start.
      Funny thing is this new relay rattles straight out of the package, quite badly... But I measured it's resistance and it goes to 36 Ohm. I understand it should sit between 10 and 50 Ohm, so it looks fine (I measured also the old relay and it also looks fine, so I guess that may also have been OK). Also, if I hold down its terminals, it doesn't rattle so bad anymore, so I'm guessing it's just something about its construction.
      The compressor also measures fine electrically, with 33 Ohm, 19 Ohm and 14 Ohm between the terminals. Could it be that capacitor next to the PTC relay? Or am I looking at a mechanically failed compressor?

      I had the same issue. For me it was the thermal protection on the compressor. The coils were dirty towards the front of my SxS fridge. It was like a carpet and was blocking airflow. I unplugged the fridge for three hours. Cleaned coils and fan. It fired up right away and the heat was venting towards the front on the fridge vent normally. I also changed the start relay/overload combo but it didn't help I initially because it was a thermal issue
