I had the derringer with the pedal monster and it doesn’t come close to what the pulsar v3 and cts3 can do… night and day difference in power alone… and with the additional functions it’s a no brainer

I have an ‘18 Crew 3500. I had the Pulsar V1 and then purchased a Derringer. Later I did add in the Pedal Monster. Shortly after purchasing the Pedal Monster the Derringer put me in limp mode because it killed my communication to the fuel pressure sensor(and did NOT go into bypass mode). Back to the Pulsar, and when the V3 came out I upgraded to it. I was fighting somethings with the Pulsar but Edge has been supportive and I am hoping an update they released has addressed my issues (was getting some weird pulsing/jerks when the truck was trying to decide to hold a gear or downshift… more so during towing)
Pros of Derringer Combo…. Banks adds more turbo boost pressure. Going to the dealership is just really an unplug from the ODBII port. I can choose the version of code to run.
Cons of Derringer…. With the Pedal Monster the distance between regens TANKS! I hated the iDash. Moving between screens was horrible, and it would always reset my settings on its own or during an update. Need to run wires from the engine bay into cab. During winter it would always throw a code with my Injen CAI.
Pros of Pulsar V3…. Better pedal adjustments, more power throughout the throttle, you get the option of turbo timer, high idle added. Now you can adjust the max speed. No wires to run. SO much prefer the Insights display and layout options.
Cons of Pulsar…. If you are the type to pull off the unit before going in to the dealership… Need to mess with the ECM. Dealership cannot do any updates to the ECM if Pulsar is installed. Updates or version is strictly controlled by Edge, so any tweaks requires a call to them. Computer MPG is at least showing +2 MPG than actual.
Experiences average regen distances….
Stock: ~400 miles.
Injen alone: ~530.
Derringer and Injen (B4 Pedal Monster): ~580 miles. I saw a whopping 200 miles between a regen when I had the PM on.
Pulsar and Injen: ~530 miles.
MPG-wise…. I usually see a little better with either tuner if I am nice with them… This includes towing. I feel you can get a hair more out of the Derringer since that will not add power until you are in it a little more.
DEF consumption… I have not tracked that close, and since my truck is used for daily driving and rec. towing. It is inconsistent. Worse that I have seen is just under 500 mpg, best is 817 mpg.
So out of the 2 what would I pick? The Pulsar. It give you more bang for the buck. I do prefer the Derringer for more turbo pressure, but everything else goes to the Pulsar.
we can tell just just by the response of hearing the engine roaring up and how fast the trees are wiping by haters going to hate
It's weird because people always talk about horsepower with deleting a truck but all I can think about is longevity and fuel mileage hahahaha I feel like that is more valuable IMO

I can answer that. Only level 4, driving "normal" highway, I picked up 2 mpg on a 18, 3500 LB CC SRW. Hand calculated. Added 5 gallons DEF every 5,500 to 6,500 miles. No towing.
Is Marcus running a level kit and 37’s? If so which kit and does he rub?
Do you see any calculated mileage improvement, and is the DIC mileage still correct?

Serious question @JW Montoya. If I hook up the pulsar in my L5P and for whatever reason need to take it in to the dealership do you know if they can tell. I guess what I’m asking will it leave a footprint for them to find because I would take it off before taking it to them.

Does the Pulsar void the factory warranty?
Im having issues with my 2014 when I try to install my tunes from gdp. It throws the same codes, takes fuel filter life to 0. I can put back in my ppei 60hp tune and it runs fine. Truck has had weight loss and has old ppei tune. Gdp says the injectors need to be recalibrated with the original codes. The stock codes. If anyone has any insight Id be forever greatful. Thanks. I watch all your content and seen you have issues before with tuning and plenty experience. Hope you can help.

Not any info on the Evo HT2 or it’s Superchips counterpart I could find. I emailed Edge with specific questions and didn’t really get the clarity I was looking for.
Ok. To clear something up about the Banks video.
They ONLY tested level 5. Which is a race tune. But on the dyno, in order to get the EGTs high to have the ECM defuel, they had to put a load on it like they were towing and it took 15 seconds for it to defuel.
Soooo. With an empty truck, on a wide open throttle pull on a closed course, the EGTs do not get remotely close to 1500+ degrees because the actual truck is unloaded and in 15 seconds, you will be running 100+ mph, so its getting cooled....by actual airflow. It is makes that part of the video FAKE NEWS! Banks also says to not tow with the Derringer over level 2, same with Edge. Level 2 for towing. I have video of my 18 towing a 16k 5er up an 8% grade, while dowing a regen, cruise set to 65mph and EGTs do not go past 1350. It actually runs hotter with the Pulsar turned off.
I ran level 4 as a daily and never had any soot issues at all. I got 800 mile regen cycles almost everytime. Had V2 for 40,000 miles before switching to V3. I had the Derringer for 60,000 miles before that. Same truck.
So over the Banks and the Edge v2 and v3 that you have experienced… what would you suggest? Just leave it Stock, Edge V3, or Banks?
Great feedback…so many fish have built the Banks hook without thinking critically about what they’re seeing.

When you say level 3 how many levels are there? And can you switch on the fly or only when stopped?

The pulsar just dumps extra fuel and increases EGT to the point where the stock ECU will remove power and fuel back down to stock limits. The derringer is actually able to bring you to max safe levels of EGT and unlike the pulsar it can actually control and add boost. It can sustain peak power far beyond 30 seconds and the pulsar drops power from 5-20 seconds and leaves you with less power than stock. Also the pulsars first level is actually seating the truck to below stock. So that at top level it seems like more power. Very bad for resend cycles, DEF consumption, soot recirculation into the engine and your rings. Also does not fail safe, and can allow you to put settings in that can blow your Allison up quickly.

I don’t know. I believe I can make the power, but I don’t know about the long-term durability and performance of it. I am personally worried about the emission system, and overall engine and drivetrain health over the long term.

I have a 2017 l5p always going into limp mode it's out of warranty I'm ready to delete it what do you suggest go with the Pulsar or the full ECM delete I'm trying to save some money the truck is out of warranty and it continues to stay in limp mode I've changed a few real pressure sensor and other sensors it's very frustrating I love my truck pay a lot of money for it and would like to get some advice moving forward so one important question does the Pulsar system you talking about stop the limp mode situation

Figure out what’s causing it to go into limp mode. If it’s emissions, then there is your answer
