    The show gives it a feel that the ship is a single deck vessel with a sub-level opening to the medical bay. The warp drive is clearly a horizontal in its design. You have to get Starfleet out of your heads. As everyone has moved on from their military roles. We have no idea what "civilian vessels" look like.

  • @vovacat1797

    Is it possible that this ship is actually designed to haul large cargo containers underneath it? I mean, one would fit nicely between those two pylons. We know from ST:Enterprise that cargo ships are actually those small manoeuvrable things that carry huge containers.

    • @loganholmberg2295
      @loganholmberg2295 4 роки тому +1

      That could explain the large pylons yeah. If they swung down to grip cargo contains sure. Its the lack of warp nacelles on a federation ship though that bug me. I know they have had ships like that in the past but those were cheap model redresses they did to save time and money for ships that would only appear in a shot or two.

      @@loganholmberg2295 Have they said that it's a Federation-built ship, though? We don't know where it was made, AFAIK. Being built elsewhere would explain the internal warp mechanisms/no nacelles design.

    Most civilian ships in Trek don’t look “Trek”. SS Xhosa, Arctic One, The Batris, The Merchantman to name a few.

    • @ZeroB4NG
      @ZeroB4NG 4 роки тому +5

      Funny that those are all freighters.
      The Merchantman at least has a very pronounced Bridge section and i've seen it used a lot in Trek so the design is very Trek in my eyes but only because it was used a ton in videogames like Starfleet Accademy for example. But yeah i agree with you, they seem to have more Star Wars Star Destroyer engines in the back than Star Trek Warp Nacelles or anything.
      Makes me think those are sub warp freighters for inside star system use. But of course they would never get anywhere without Warp.
      In ENT even the freighters had very distinct Cochrane Style Warp Nacelles, at least the ones from Earth, that was just the technology, you can't have a Star Trek ship without Deflector and Warp Nacelles just like you can't have a Car without wheels.
      Everything that doesn't is usually alien of the week or just kitbashes.
      Every shuttle, every Klingon every Romulan has some sort of Warp Nacelles on it... well, except the KDF Bird of Prey but that ships rear end is all engine.

    • @Exploder11
      @Exploder11 4 роки тому +3

      Trek cargo ships can be very generic, so La Sirena has that going for it, but it still is the hero ship. There should have been more distinctness and thought out detailing put into it. It's also unfortunate how much detailing there is but which is washed out by poor lighting choices.

    • @loganholmberg2295
      @loganholmberg2295 4 роки тому +1

      Thats only because in all honesty they had generic ships they would redress for episodes and didn't want to spend money on ships for one shot. If you look at all the other material for Star trek Federation ships usually follow the Nacelle design. You'd think a Heroship would have some more thought put into especially now that all the ships are CG.

    The ship looks like a Catamaran sail boat, which are meant for speed. Not applicable in space, however I like the idea that she's a quick little ship. I'd like to see it next to The Defiant for scale

    • @KuraIthys
      @KuraIthys 4 роки тому

      You can get a good sense of scale from the fact that it has a window at the front, and we see that window both from inside and outside.
      From that you could scale things pretty well. Based on this I'd say the ship's midhull is about 8 metres tall, give or take, and about 8 metres wide.
      Scaling the central body against this gives a length somewhere in the 40 metre range.
      If you then consider the side wings, we get an overall length somewhere around 60-70 metres, and a width of about 30-40
      The size of the defiant unfortunately has never been clearly established, and visually it changes from scene to scene in DS9.
      The smallest the defiant has ever been depicted as is 70 metres, the largest is 170.
      It's typical size more often than not comes to about 120 metres long.
      So, if we take this average for the defiant, the the La Sirena is about half the length of the Defiant, and about 3 times the length of a runabout.
      Basically, it's right on the edge of being a runabout/shuttle kind of ship and an actual starship.
      So, not that big, really. But not tiny either...
      Which kind of makes sense if you consider it's a civilian ship typically crewed solely by it's owner...

    It certainly doesn't look like a typical Federation Ship, but it might still be a Star Trek ship. There are some Vulcan elements in there, if you recall the Vulcan Warp Sled? I think it rather strongly resembles it. There's also the Federation Tug that it bears some resemblance to, which means that it could well be a tug if the show is claiming it to be a cargo vessel. It can move cargo, it's just meant to haul large cargo pods rather than hauling that cargo in its own internal bays.

    It looks like the Long Range Shuttle from TMP mixed with a Runabout, but a Runabout not made by Starfleet (thus no traditional-looking nacelles).
    As for it being a cargo ship- it probably isn't meant to primarily haul internally-loaded cargo but rather latch onto cargo modules between the wings/struts below the main body. There are numerous freighters in Trek that are pretty basic core components filled out with cargo pods and modules, from the Botany Bay to the cargo module of a Runabout to several ENT-era freighters.
    Here, we're just looking at it without a module attached.

    Another thing that kind of throws things off. In Star Trek, they use impulse engines for slower than light travel, which are usually square red exhausts. Star Wars is the one that has hundreds of different sized round exhausts of different sizes that burn white all on one ship.

  • @annalivia1308
    @annalivia1308 4 роки тому

    I have 2 ideas: 1. It is a ship that can pick up large cargo containers - the two side pods would "grab" the cargo container, the cargo container would be locked in place by some mechanism, and the ship itself would sit on top of the cargo container, somewhat the reverse of the Eureka Maru approach. 2. It is more like a courier freighter - small cargo which needs to be delivered fast across distance; somewhat like the equivalent of the Pony Express. - The crew appears to be 1 - this explains the holograms. They are integral to the ship (holomatrix), and the ship is the ideal match for her broody captain who probably, at this stage, never wants to work with a crew again due to what he experienced. I wonder if there is a hologram for an engineer. I would be interested in finding out about the engine room. The ship must have an engine room. This is Star Trek but maybe it's a matter of pride and the wish to give Star Trek a Star Wars touch in the erroneous belief this makes it more digestable to a larger audience (the world does not need another Star Wars so Star Trek would be doomed if they go this way). - This ship could develop a character, easily, if we only saw it more in action more and showing off. It would also be interesting to see what it is like being the captain of a hologram crew. It could be a continuation of VOY in this regard where the doctor could turn into command officer so you essentially had more than one hologram on the VOY already (but not simultaneously).

    The sad thing about the ship designs in the Kurtzmanverse is that even if we assume that La Sirena has 3 or 4 decks, I bet that they're going to add a turbolift rollercoaster scene one day.
    What are the glowing blue rectangles anyway? I thought they were some kind of shuttle bays too but they seem way too small compared to the cockpit.

  • @tzor
    @tzor 4 роки тому +2

    There has always been bad nomenclature in the Star Trek franchise, (and the Star Wars franchise) so I wouldn’t overly nit pick between the difference between a “freighter” and a basic “freighter tug” that basically is the engine component for a basically non-warp capable freight module. Those extensions could easily be the means to attach to the larger freight module. (That is like the M. Falcon, although that is not used in any way onscreen.)
    Yes, it would be nicer to get more consistency in the ship designs. But odd designs have been seen before. (Example the private star ship used in Mudd’s Women.) We don’t see them because other than opposing empires we don’t see non-Federation designed ships, except in the extreme rare example. As a result, I remain with mixed opinions on it. When the problems detail how the glow bits should be arranged, you know that the real problem is that there is a deliberate lack of common Star Trek sense. With just the right tweaking, that could be a really fine model.
    P.S. We need more starships with paint schemes we hate; after all there is no requirement for every race in the galaxy to have the same artistic sense of the natives of Earth.

Maybe even as a Bajoran design. I had a look at the Mass Effect designs and I can see what you meant. Mostly plates and panels and stuck off engine pods. I would agree it’s pretty generic, but on the cargo carrying aspect, with transporter tech it should be very easy to reconfigure spaces. Would be super cool to see some creative uses of that tech fully realized, dematerialize walls etc.

    It doesn’t bother me that a non-Starfleet ship doesn’t look Starfleet. That said, what struck me immediately about it was how much the forward cockpit has a Danube-class runabout vibe to it. Secondly (and Captain Foley kind of stole my thunder on this), the “pincers” definitely remind me of a Feringi shuttle. To me, the forward view of the La Sinera looks like a DS9 runabout had a baby with Quark’s shuttle. So, I do get a Trek vibe from it.
    But I also get another vibe from its insectoid appearance. It reminds of the Insecticons from G1 Transformers, lol.

    I like how the side bays seem to be slanted and not even with the rest of the ship (could just be a visual trick on me though). Perhaps the gravity that is generated there is angle slightly differently from the rest of the ship to allow people to walk upright. Could be an interesting shot to see someone on the bridge with their head horizontal and have someone in a bay walking at an off angle.

    I really like this ship.
    It's memorable, an iconic hero ship. Would make a really cool model or even toy. It reminds me of a ship from Deep Space Nine, it has vibes of a shuttlecraft or runabout. Would it be more "Star Trekian" if it were in an eggshell blue with Starfleet pendants running down its side? Probably, but clearly within the context of the show and her captain, this is his ship. I can see this being a cargo tug, the cab of a truck kind of ship and a ship that toes and transports cargo pods across long distances. Minimal crew, perhaps just Rios and his holographic crew.
    I don't agree that this is a Mass Effect ship, its different to other Star Trek ships but it fits into the Trek universe. It's just different, and when haven't these sci-fi franchises borrowed from each other... I think this is unique enough to be identifiable as a Star Trek ship. Can't wait to learn more about it!

    • @loganholmberg2295
      @loganholmberg2295 4 роки тому

      I could agree with you but there's no Nacelles or deflector dish. Runabouts and Shuttles from DS9 had those. If the ship had Nacelles I could like it. But without it doesn't feel like most Alpha/Beta quadrant ships. Most star trek ships have a look and feel that belongs in the universe. This dose not and feels like those cheap models they would redress for episodes that lacked things like nacelles cause who cares its only there for a couple of shots.

    The paint job could be something Rios did, maybe the original ship was one colour and he opted to give it something new (inspired by a Discovery shuttle or Babylon 5 :-P).
    Had no idea the ship almost had bussard collectors and field grills, that could suggest its either of Starfleet design or some other type of Earth based ship design bureau. The directors wanted it to look less Star Trek? :-/ Those ship details look really good, nice to see they do exist.
    Hopefully we will get some more background details on it soon inc designs.

    Turns out the side pods are impulse engines for when the ship tows cargo, because the central ones would get blocked. Weirdly the concept is the side engines were added later even though it's supposed to have been designed for towing. The prongs are the warp engines, as with the Vulcan warp sled. We'll see if any of that gets into the next season.

    Not all freighters carry onboard cargo. In fact, most freighters in Star Trek use underslung pods. Those two wings are most likely clamps to hold pods under the main body.
    Meanwhile, there's enough visual evidence to suggest the large array at the back of the main deck is actually an array of smaller warp cores. This would correlate with how many engine glows appear at the back. While this breaks the rules of warp field generation on capital-sized ships, there's never been a very solid standard for fighter-sized ships outside of the most commonly seen shuttlecraft. Having multiple small warp engines allows for the more limited hull real estate. It also means you can conserve power by only using as many engines as required for the cargo (even though weight isn't a thing in space, the size of the warp field needed to encompass a ship is). This would also explain why all of the elements intensified both inside and outside the ship during the fake-out maneuver. My only concern with this theory is that there are only seven chambers (a main and six auxiliary) but up to ten warp elements (depending on whether some are part of the same engine or all are their own engines).
    As someone who's designed a lot of sci-fi ships, I knows how tempting it is to have function follow form, with interesting design elements being given a purpose after being added. Star Wars ships are notorious for this, leaving it up to tech manuals to explain the greebly bits. But the important thing is to make sure every element has a purpose by the time you're done. The designers here have the form but have yet to explain the function, which is what's driving us all nuts - especially since Star Trek tends to reuse elements constantly so we already know their function as soon as we see them. I really hope they release some official technical data so we can see for certain what's going on with this ship's exterior.
    At least the interior (now that we've seen more of it) was obviously inspired by the likes of The Expanse, so the floorplan is well-thought out. I'm just waiting for a battle where someone goes over that balcony railing, though!

    I can't read all the comments so I don't know if this has been posted yet but it reminds me of the millennium falcon when you all say cargo ship.
    I believe this latches on top of a container. Either at its rear.... possibly its front....or anywhere in between.
    I believe you can see all the way through it. I know what looks like a warp-core is in the middle towards the rear but I believe you can see around each side of it.
    This would be very useful for maintaining visual contact with the container well docking or at warp.
    Also, let's remember that this is a civilian style ship. Why would he not want to paint it much like we do our cars and hot rods?
    Pretend now that Starfleet is the military like ours. Everything in the military is pretty much one color and one style. Much like Starfleet.
    All of our Navy fighters are the same color which is a almost Starfleet like a gray. Our Air Force's fighter jets, as well as reconnaissance, are very much resembling a Starfleet grayish blue LOL.
    Up until this show, with the exception of say 5% of all episodes of all series, have either been aboard a Starfleet ship or a Starfleet facility. Once again much like a military base or ships aka aircraft carrier.
    This would also explain the world outside Starfleet appearing like nothing we've seen before.
    The vaping. The cursing. Don't hang up, and in the last episode, "press play".
    These all seem out of place as they would seem out of place today on a military base or....wait for it, military "wessell".....lol!
    So maybe we are just actually seeing what Earth is like outside of Starfleet! .
    Please let me know I did get it with this explanation LOL.
    Commander, I don't know if you remember me or not, but it was during a chat and it was a super chat where I had donated and could ask whatever I wanted to.
    I simply askedto see and hear about your computer setup and you're filming room!
    I also was able to tell you all about my horrible multiple surgeries. I have now had another surgery and three screws have decided to back out.... Basically coming loose. This will require another surgery or two.
    I fell in love with Star trek again because of the card and because you all keep us informed and entertained at the same time!
    I wish I could give more to support the channel but I am entirely dependent on others and now as I'm unable to work.
    But don't worry, I'm staying positive and attempting to.....

    Interestingly enough? Am not someone whose been deeply negative about any of the Star Trek hero ships. Well rounded criticism for sure. But on this one Trekyards? You both gave this ship a lot more character than the actual ship seems to have. And actually hinted at a reason for that. The La Sirena is basically a generic modern sci fi ship, really not far removed from what could be seen on a dollar store space themed children's birthday card. Little creativity seems to have gone into its look and design. Up until this point, its by far my least favorite of the Star Trek hero ships. And that's mainly because, inside and out, it clearly isn't even trying to follow a Star Trek aestetic.
