The will it run is a popular tag. I can't say I do only crank it and yank it. I like getting an old unloved car and getting it some kind of shiny.

That freeze frame of hugging your boy hit me in the feels. Goes to show where your priorities lie. Not only are you a great dad, but you don't mind showing it. That moment could just as easily been edited out and saved for your own personal use but instead was cast into your already great vids. Your family is a shining example for the rest of us to see.

23:10 I'm British - my father never hugged me or told me he loved me, although he did shake my hand once - that's why some of us come across as a bit cold sometimes. This was the 1960s so I think that sort of nonsense is passing nowadays here. I'd be interested to here from Americans my age, 60+, how their fathers were.

Looks awesome. I'm a Chevy man at heart but I really do love the style of these old F100s, and that 6 shooter was hard to kill. I had a buddy who sank his deep in a waterhole. Took over a week to get it pulled out, but not for the lack of trying. He ended up lifting it straight out with a crane. He changed all the fluids a few times. It sounded like a Cummins diesel from then on but it ran another 12 years until he sold it. Will probably outlive us all.

I think the weathered dinged thin paint look that it's got going on looks pretty cool to be honest and it makes it look like it's not been abused but also like the owner isn't afraid to actually use it.
I don't think it needs a respray at all and i fact i think what would be more fitting is a protective coat to keep it as is.

That is an excellent rig. The condition for a 1978 ? Score ! I've owned many SB V8 Fords over the years, the 300 I-6 was the true workhorse of the gas powered fleet. They were used in tractors, farm equipment, generators, dump trucks and more, then some. I love her as a survivor with the clean up. Keep her as she is appearance-wise. Derek, You're taking the perfect approach with this one. Possibly the best body on a vehicle I've seen you bring around. I recognise it's original protective layer as moss/lichen from a cool dark place, hardened by either bringing inside, or a place in the sun! When I was tasked with cleaning an engine I was given a jar of petrol, a paintbrush and the instruction "Don't get it on your hands!" Said it before😀. Reminiscing, my dad would have been able to straighten out all those panels with his hands and a few odd shaped hammers and things.... bus company panel beater..... lots of practice! Regards Stephen.

I remember when you were back in Minnesota in ur Lil 2 bay garage... I'm thinkin that the neighbors were giving you grief... the tree row was getting heavy and the all mighty American neighbors were making your life miserable right... I din-na, but I've experienced the same rif-raf in Cananada. 🎉
leave them alone and get closer to Nashville as possible.

Hey Derek, next time you have to clean a vehicle with a lot of organic growth I have an easy way to clean it and the results are phenomenal. Super easy too.
Get a pump up sprayer with 30% bleach 70% water and some soap to help it stick and stay wet. Let sit for a minute and rinse thoroughly. Don’t let it dry on there. I have clean alot of dirty vehicles like that. Your working to hard pressure washing and your right you are running a high risk of damaging the paint

With an old truck like that, where the paint is getting thin in some areas, you can scuff it up a bit with 400 grit and rattle can those spots to thicken the paint, then after a few days, wet sand with dull 600 grit, wash, and buff and make it look almost new. No major work like removing trim, excessive masking, priming, etc... necessary

Those old 70s ford trucks have always been my favorite. Its great to see this one is good shape and getting a second chance. Also, the Meguiars mirror glaze products are great. They've been around a while and used not be the cheaper option. Ive used them for nearly 20 yrs. Looking forward to the interior build.

you get those black stains when they cover the car with a plastic tarpaulin in high humidity climates black rot is created. (those squigly patterns are formed by algae and fungal growth. it looks like there were several layers of black rot from different periods where it dried out got wet again etc. next time use sugar soap first. it kills the enzimes that is burrowed into the paint. just a tip. bloody nice job though....

I am loving this series! Other than mine was a 400 with a C6 auto, add a saddle blanket seat cover, a set of white wagon wheels wrapped in BFG Radial T/As and you have my first truck in your possession. Bringing back some serious memories. Good stuff, keep it up!
Side note: Keep loving on those kids and getting them involved. Maybe let each one pick a build and direction for an upcoming series. They are only kids for a little while and these are things they will remember and cherish forever. My oldest is my camping buddy. We built my old Isuzu Trooper into an overland rig (before it was popular) because she loved backwoods camping. I thank God everyday for the relationship we have. Now that she is in college we have a lot of stories of adventures to look back on and thankfully she still wants to hang out with the old man. I also (because God has a sense of humor) have a four year old daughter. My wife doesn't understand why I am constantly pulling her into my projects and taking her camping and hiking even though she is a girly girl... I see her smiles when we are getting outside of her comfort level and hear her laughter. I may have to take her to get her nails done after going 4 wheeling cause the mud ruined them, but she will tell everyone she talks to about how much fun it was. lol
Waiting for the next notification bell. Till then I'll be in the garage tinkering. Cheers!

That ole truck looks great as it is...I'd love to repaint my 87 Ford Ranger but, the prep work alone is well there's a lot, and without a garage to work in it wouldn't work out, tried to repaint the lower section and by the time I got that done over a week or so of prep, then paint, and some clear coat, I had a lot of issues trying to get the tape back off the truck which of course damaged some of the new paint in the process....not sure what tape a person could use, if any that won't end up permanently attached from the sun hitting it but that's what caused my problems I think is the heat kind of baked the tape in making it almost impossible to remove without peeling off the new paint in the process.
