Hi Michael thank you so much for this tutorial. The whole painting was stunning. I love it. Painting trees was never my strong point. In fact most are a disaster and I threw them out. But I did keep a few with the hope that I might be able to do something with them and this tutorial is just the tonic I needed. You gave me great inspiration here and please God, I might be able to do something with these screw ups 😅and bring the paintings back to something much better. It's the trunks and branches of the trees more than the foliage really but the trunks can ruin everything when they are not right. Now I know it's the wrong brushes I was using and technique. Thanks to your help I think I'll be able to go back to it and if not do them again and with better knowledge this time with what you've just showed me here. Thank you so much for this. I'm so grateful. God bless you and your work. Susan ❤👍🎨🙏🕊
It is always new experience to follow your techniques and to learn a lot from your videos. It is clear that you do a lot of home work to make it better. Thanks for everything
Mr. Michael, your name are renting free in my mind, i always want to live in almost all of your artwork, the sceneries is very satisfy my seek of solitude in nature. You are truly my inspiration and my reason liking Acrylic artwork, you are simply reasonable with your techniques and artwork, simple yet extremely advanced. I have to say i saw so many many artists, but you are always my top 1 teacher, favorite artist, and inspiration. God bless you and peace be upon you. We learned a lot from you.
The painting is so beautiful. I envy your skills. I'm going around to learn oil painting these days. I'm still new to it. Your painting warms my anxious and painful heart. I'm not good enough to copy it yet, so I just watch the video. I want to copy it someday, decorate my house, and post it on UA-cam to show it off. Thank you. 😂
What a treat this was! It was quite helpful to see up close what you’re doing. I always am unsatisfied with my trees but you have shown me exactly how to fix that. Thank you for your generosity in sharing your methods. (And PS the music was lovely)
👋Hi Michael, thanks a lot for another of your excellent tutorials, clear, precise instructions. I like the motif, very beautiful, and the finished painting, I'm sure of that, is gonna be outstanding good again. Have a nice weekend❤
Are ya sure the piano wasn't in the same room withya? Sounded like it'was right behind you, had a tight space echo about it, quality that be. So good to see you outdoors doing your ever self-unique search for examples and did I 🤣 when spying all the studio wall tape-ups, that's how I've seen you over the years, quite the mess! (& never having enough room!) The same layer logics, bonzer simplistic technique and uncomplicated explanations, but my how you've improved your brushes and detail work, very exciting and boy I'm extremely beholden of your sharing this ever-travel artists endure. I very much remember whilst painting a forest scene for me gramps, I started it, stopped for nearly a year, came back to it and the end result showed quite the difference in mere brain maturing, there were two glaringly different styles, but gramps never said a word, he framed it and proudly displayed it in his foyer where all entering couldn't miss it (including me & my criticizing 👀s). Thanks SirMikey, best yet lesson on trees (& how to LIVE like a real artist 🐒) love ya 🤠
@@MichaelJamesSmith I'm anyway just gonna start with trees , so I'm glad I got you're video today. I'm gonna apply it right now... Thank you so much ! God bless you
Hello! You make near to real paintings and it is such a pleasure to watch you create such outstanding paintings. Can I suggest you to please mention the colors you use for the foliage in your description or as you speak. Will you?
"But what the hell is that?" is my genuine reaction to the most random spot on my almost done painting and me having to go over it multiple times until it actually gets covered 😭. All jokes aside, your paintings are awesome! I do a bit of painting and drawing myself, and I have to say I am very close to your realism aspect! I made a painting of thanos and iron around a year ago, I feel so much pain from not finding your youtube channel until today. Your videos would've helped a lot TvT. Keep up the good work!
Most of the original mid-tones layed down disappear once the other layers are applied. So is there a point in putting down the mid-tones in the first place?
Michael, I paint most of my landscapes with acrylics. I do use flow extender, retarder medium and have used glazing techniques in the past. I have painted over 40 plus years but can’t seem to reach a more advanced level in my skills ( my love of Impressionism plus also an OCD to details….). I continue to remain at best, an intermediate skill level. Suggestions? Would your TV channel lessons apply as well to acrylic artists? Your work is stunning and I could lose myself in it.
MJS has made me unsubscribe many other co-called artists. What an exceptional artist and teacher you are! Sharing your painting secrets and skills is extremely generous of you!
I really wanted to join your online painting academy, but I'm not fluent in English, and I'm writing this comment with the help of Google Translate. Can I still make satisfactory progress in my studies just by carefully observing the classes? I'm from Brazil and a big fan of your art. Cheers!!!
I absolutely love watching you work and you are an excellent teacher. I work only with acrylics and find I can apply most of the same techniques. Would you agree? I’d love to be in your patreon group but fear two things (1) I’m a newbie, and (2) you work mainly with oil so will the content be suitable for me?
I truly appreciate your sharing of your skills. Watching and learning from your explanations has greatly improved my own skills. Thanks!
Great to hear!
Newbie here and just now learning about blocking and undercoating. Now I'll know how to add the details and background back in.
Thank you very much.
I really like that detailing in the trees. Excellent.
Beautiful sunshine, blue skies, and relaxing music. And wonderful detailed art. Thanks. ☀️😊
Many thanks!

Absolutely incredible your steady hand, and the results, bravo!

I totally agree I love your techniques, you describe them so well you do not need the Muzak.
Personally, I like the music in the background, it is relaxing and helps me focus on the instruction and technique.

Excellent work but for me, it looked more real somehow before all the highlights went in with the fan brush.

Very good, but do lose the music. You're teaching - you have an active audience - and so the music is a serious hindrance.
