I remeber being a kid walking into houses under construction, with other kids, just being curious and wondering what something being "constructed" looked like. We never took or trashed anything. It looked to me like he was doing the same. Even if it was not the case, he didn't hurt anyone and didn't deserve that. Shame on those monsters.
Has anyone else gone into a construction site of big houses and look around? It's fun, he didn't steal or take anything. Why chase him down and kill him? This story hurts my soul
There are videos of him there at night time as well as during the day, he wasn't just "looking around". He lived 12 miles away too by road. Nobody jogs 24 miles, especially not in timberland boots and cargo shorts. You are trying to cover up for a guy who was doing a criminal act just because of his skin color, doubt you would do that if the races were reversed or if you would even care.
@@terryh1680 The two men who are finally arrested had no idea who he was, or what he was doing! If he was there at night time as well, then they don't know if it was him, and we don't know if they saw him there twice. Doubt you are the one who cares! Those videos were Mr. English's and the house is his as well. Those videos just recently came out to the public. So please! And somehow that make it ok? Let me walk in your home while you are not in it so I can look how your house looks like compared to mine. Will that make it trespassing and a criminal offense?
WillFanofMany here is the fact, you can only do a citizens arrest when you witness a FELONY. At worse this is a trespassing which in Georgia is a MISDEMEANOR.
Ya it's quite common. Some random people show up just because their curious. I worked wood finishing for many years before my heart got worst. Even after hours and it was difficult to tell people to leave because as an employee we don't know if the person is a client or friend of client and we let them wonder.
It's trespassing to wander around on a construction site that isn't your own. It's not anyone's fault but your parents that none of you were taught that. Ignorance of the law is no excuse. I used to go on construction sites as a kid, and even then I knew I was misbehaving and it was wrong. Besides, this guy had a record and was 12 miles from home, wearing boots. In a construction site that had cameras installed because things had been going missing. The police were called on a trespasser, and before they arrived, he's on camera running out of the house. You can do the math, unless your childishness gets in the way.

Rictusgrin Only local law enforcement knew about this until the tape was released, keeping it hushed up until the tape came to the attention of the state, after which , hours later arrest warrants were issued by the state. This is according to news reports& borne out by the almost 4 month delay between the killing&the state's involvement. It's apparent the county was willing to cover it up&forget about it.

The person who recorded the shooting could have called the police before anything knowing something was going on 2. Don’t charge at someone with a gun 3. If they got a gun just call or wait for the police then the whole situation would get fought in court and the dude would have won with a couple of bands in his pocket
Except in this case, the McMichaels were justified in their actions under GA law. Reasonable suspicion based on immidiate knowledge of a crime. (1st or 2nd degree burglary). Lawful citizen's arrest, lawful open carry. When Arbery comes around from the other side of the truck and runs straight at Travis, he has innitiated contact and he is the aggressor. Autopsy shows the first shot goes through Arbery's hand, and was first from the driver's side of the vehicle. That means Arbery had his hand on the muzzle of the shotgun, and the location the shot was fired from reiterates that Arbery attacked McMichael. At that point, GA stand your ground law comes into play, which means that if you have sufficient reason to believe your life, or the lives of others are in danger, or if a forcible felony is in progress, use of force becomes justified to end the threat. It's regretable that a man died but people need to drop the narrative and drop the race card. This case is pretty cut and dry.

What we can't see if you don't look good enough, is the son going around the front of the truck to attempt to stop him in his tracks. When the camera pans back over that's why you see them coming from in front of the truck. He didn't run towards his door side when he seen him getting out he tried to run around but was cut off with a gun in his face. Tyler Jones First, they did not have the right to stop Ahmaud because they did not see him commit a crime which is required by GA law. Running and suspicion is not enough. I was just saying this. When I was a kid, my dad and my sister and I would take walks every evening after dinner. We would walk into the unfinished foundation of houses just like this, just to look around and then leave. I never once thought anything of it until now. Smh.
He was not shot for trespassing or stealing. They attempted to detain him until the cops got there (perhaps foolishly, I think they should have stayed in the truck trailing him & on the phone with police.) There is no evidence of either men pointing a weapon at Arbery prior to being attacked by him & him attempting to disarm McMichael. Arbery escalated it to violence.
Citizens should not attempt to take the law into their own hands. If you suspect a crime then call the police. If you think following a suspect is a good idea, try calling 911 while you are following at a safe distance. Wow. I've walked onto construction sites out of curiosity. I would hate to think I could be shot for doing this. I appreciate the homeowner's disclosure of the video and context.
I was an HVAC contractor working on new construction homes. People walk in looking all of the time to get ideas for building their own house or neighbors looking at what the new neighbors home will be. It doesnt give anyone the right to chase someone down with a gun. Even if he took something then you call the authorities. Just my thoughts
He was probably just curious about what the house looked like, probably jogged past it frequently and wanted to take a peek. I know my dad’s in construction and he’s done this before.
but when cops were called, he took of sprinting. why? and when a man tried a citizens arrest, he attacked him and tried to take his loaded gun from him.
@George Hennen complete nonsense assumptions on your part. Your racism is what is driving the country apart. If he was shot by a black guy, this would not be news
When Mr. English called the neighbor "a couple of streets down," how did that neighbor already know the man [Ahmaud Arbery] who'd been killed was the same man in the home video alert?
right....because she also said it was two weeks before they saw the video....how you get a video alert two weeks later....lots of inconsistencies with what she says in the video.....cause other videos show lots of different people in and out of their house while it was under construction....and also they released something saying those two men approached him about a couple days to a week later and asked him if he had video surveillance. anybody else read that?
Hawk 1 I think part of it is they don’t want negative repercussions coming down on them for simply owning the house. There are nut cases and extremists on all sides. Another reason, though, is probably also that this really is a senseless horrible crime

@@jamesnevitt3400 very true. It appears that not only are they mentally ill but they have trouble understanding basic concepts as well. So I provided definitions for them. Hopefully they can read them with comprehension.
*Murder* : the unlawful *premeditated* killing of one human being by another (they weren't going to say hello neighbor with the guns). *Aggress* : attack or behave aggressively towards; *initiate* a conflict with (the aggressive behavior started when they tried to entrap a person with firearms, I'd defend myself too, but would have been carrying). *Break in* : *force* entry to a building (it had no door to force open, because it was under construction). *None* of these things were done by Arbery.
You know, to me it seemed like the likely reason this man was killed was the fact that he charged, assaulted and aggressively attempted to gain control of a loaded firearm possessed by a man who was legally carrying the weapon while conducting a perfectly legal activity in the state that this took place. Look, this is a sad situation. I understand if you feel like it was unnecessary for these men to have pursued Ahmaud with loaded weapons. I actually agree, in my opinion they shouldn't have confronted him with weapons drawn. BUT, what does that have to do with the legality of what took place on that day? NOTHING! If you have a problem go protest to change the laws.
dfy goh he could have had his day in court if he had done what the gentlemen asked him to do. Instead, he violently went for another man’s legally carried firearm that was not pointed at him and forced the man to shoot him by attacking the man. Your statement abt this country giving the death penalty for trespassing is false, misleading, and ignorant. Stop trying to be like the msm by sensationalizing bs.
Not true. According to Georgia state law, a citizens' arrest can be made by any citizen who witnesses or has personal, first- hand knowledge of a crime. They do not have to be the homeowner.

"Walking" on to a job site is not justification for murder. It's also extremely common for people who live in or around a neighborhood where construction is taking place to SURVEY the new by building. I've literally done this hundreds of times while bike riding through my town. Its a nice way to take a break when you're exercising. It's honestly relaxing to see what the inside of a half built house looks like. This situation is beyond sad and I have absolutely no sympathy for these men. They're cold blooded murderers.
What's sad is, if I was jogging I would have walked into a house under construction too. I LOVE looking at stuff like that. All the tools all over the place, angles and perfection, materials excite the hell out of me. I'm such a child. I'm sorry it makes him look like this.

He was trespassing and was seen at the place numerous times and was arrested before for being in another abandoned home while doing drugs.
Me and a friend went “house shopping” in a new development on a Sunday afternoon in the summer of 1982. Back when there was NOTHING to do on Sundays as nothing else was open. We pretended that the biggest house was ours. Did it again 23 years later with other friends whilst on a Corporate summer picnic down on the waterfront. Only this time it was with the docked yachts (we did not enter the house or the boats). It was all in fun just pretending we were “the other half” and could afford such expensive things. Both occasions remain fond memories.
One thing that's very clear from this case, is that law enforcement is not homogeneous. Laws are enforced or not based on when someone feels like enforcing them. Laws are enforced according to party lines, and as weapons against certain social groups, and are not enforced when the belligerent is popular with the right people. Laws are not used in this country to limit behavior, merely to oppress undesirables.
its starting to bother me that the stories on both sides dont sound correct. Wil we ever know what happened? Either way this man did not deserve to die.
When he was in high school, Arbery was sentenced to five years probation as a first offender on charges of carrying a weapon on campus and several counts of obstructing a law enforcement officer. He was convicted of probation violation in 2018 after he was charged with shoplifting, court documents show.
@@webranger1962 exactly. If he would have put his hands up then nothing would have happened to him. Maybe a ticket for trespassing. But he got shot beacuse he chose to fight and try to take a gun from someone. What an idiot.
Excellent report, excellent reporter to allow the interviewed to speak at will. Also, that's a really good attorney the English family hired, she spoke very clearly and competently for her client. I've been curious and nosey enough in my youth to enter homes under construction to see how it was done and what was doing. What a horror.
I live in Maryland about 2 years ago me and my friends made our way into a construction site of a school building I never would’ve thought it would just justifiable for me to be killed for trespassing
This is what typical kids do. I grew up in a town that was expanding and my friend lived in one of the new neighborhoods and we always wandered into the houses being built at night
The sad thing I've seen about all of this in the shooting is that had he not encountered them, he could have very well gone on to want to be an architect. There's been times where I have Snooped around sites out of curiosity and now I am becoming a naval engineer and officer.
They is trying to use him checking out the new home being built as a justification for killing him. Trying to say he was burglarizing it. That does not line up with the facts though. Everything the homeowners lawyer stated on their behalf very clearly demonstrates how there was No burglary.
1. This is Georgia not NY. 2. This was not his neighborhood, he was ten miles away from his house. 3. He looked around before SPRINTING inside the home, why would he do that...4. When questioned about it he SPRINTED off instead of just explaining himself, ( like every innocent person does) 🙄. 5. He could have simply kept running forward, but instead he ran 15 feet across the road to attack McMichael. Try to think logically and fairly and not based on your race for once in your life
I got chills when i saw that video of him looking around, I'm a colored latino who was once an architecture student and can't tell you how many times i went into construction sites to look around, especially when the framing was being done.... The section of my neighborhood where I live was completed less than a year ago. When my house and current neighbors house were under construction, many people living in the completed portion of the community, and others that did not live here were always walking in the construction areas that were not roped off. Not one arrest or shooting regarding protection of property occurred. What you have are two individuals who decided to conduct their own so called policing because of their ties to the local law enforcement. What they did was murder. I think the homeowner called his neighbor which ultimately made the neighbor contact the McMichael's. my argument for this is when you have a burglary happening in the neighborhood and it might take a long time for the cops to get there, the second person you call after the cops is the ex-cop neighbor ofc.
@@trowa4914 The homeowner called the police on several occasions. The only occasion which he mentioned anything mention missing was when the white couple were in his house. Prayers go out to the English family. I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t close on that home. It’s just not worth it. A whole subdivision has been changed. Let’s remember that the man was only looking at the house. How many times has the common man looked at a house under construction to get ideas on what he wants his future home to look like? If my memory serves me right, this guy was a electrician. That’s good money. Maybe he was trying to see how the electrical wiring was run through the house? We don’t know. However, my understanding is that Ahmad was already on a jog/run through the neighborhood and just stopped to look around before continuing his run. From what I’ve heard, he was an avid runner. The two white guys started the altercation by attempting to stop a free person while brandishing their guns. In this climate of racial tension I would certainly fear for my life, as Ahmaud rightly did. And look at the end result. There is no justification by saying the black kid punched the shooter or grabbed the gun. The GA laws are not on the shooters’ side. They did not see Ahmaud commit any crimes, misdemeanor or felony. And they used excessive force to try to detain him. Ahmaud had the right to go an his way and the shooters could have simply asked him questions or even followed him. And using deadly force in defense of another’s property is not a valid defense. Sad.
Hard to say. If he didn't fight for the gun, they may have just held him until the police arrived. I mean, do you think they were that stupid, to just shoot someone like that?
The only theft that had been reported in that neighborhood was from the murderer's house; a gun stolen out of a car parked in front of their house. This had nothing to do with a construction site, this was personal.

Even if he stole a drill and saw, it doesn’t justify being shot. Jail time, sure... rehabilitation, sure... Death sentence, no....
He was not shot for trespassing or stealing. They attempted to detain him until the cops got there (perhaps foolishly, I think they should have stayed in the truck trailing him & on the phone with police.) Arbery attacked them for doing so & began attempting to take the gun while punching him. Then the shooting occurred. There is no evidence of either men pointing a weapon at Arbery prior to being attacked by him & him attempting to disarm McMichael. Arbery escalated it to violence.
He could have just stayed there until the cops came....But he resisted and attacked them and got shot.
Citizens should not attempt to take the law into their own hands. If you suspect a crime then call the police. If you think following a suspect is a good idea, try calling 911 while you are following at a safe distance. If you are following a suspect and don’t call the police, then get close enough to get into an altercation, YOU then did something wrong. If the two men did nothing wrong, why are they now under arrest?

Arbery attacked them for doing so & began attempting to take the gun while punching him. Then the shooting occurred. There is no evidence of either men pointing a weapon at Arbery prior to being attacked by him & him attempting to disarm McMichael. Arbery escalated it to violence. This will be a manslaughter charge, at BEST. The predictable misplaced outrage will ensue.
He was killed because he started throwing fists at man holding a shotgun. It is legal self defense. Case closed.

dfy goh the racism and ignorance in these comments is stunning
dfy goh nah but they got self defense laws for people trying to grab shotguns out of your hands.
There was a fight over the gun though - that’s a different situation altogether.
dfy goh he could have had his day in court if he had done what the gentlemen asked him to do.
