I am so happy for my brother Amir. His story is inspiring even for us who were born muslims. Sometimes we take religion for granted and seeing his story and my brother Mutah story make me and a lot of people stop and appreciate the blissing of islam. May Allah protect us all and keep us firm in our deen.

There is no such thing as being born "Muslim" and khalas automatically you're a Muslim. Every single day you have to choose to be a Muslim, in hopes that you will die upon it. Other than that, just because your parents followed a thing, does not mean automatically you are that thing. We each have our own records and we die and resurrect with those records.

"the Muslims were most loved, most feared, and most respected in prison" - because of the mercy, the firmness and justice the Sunnah called to.

A point that stood out to me was the advice brother Amir got from sheikh abdirazaq al Badr to memorize the 40 Hadith . The forty Hadith is amazing beginning book and it covers a lot in the hadiths starting with intention and others like halal and haram ,leaving off doubt , following up a bad deed with a good deed etc.

About the note-taking system, brother Abdulwali has mentioned Sonke Ahren’s book that was describing the “Zettelkasten” knowledge management system. That has actually introduced me to a set of “Personal Knowledge Management” systems. I’d claim that the Zettelkasten method is a bit not very suitable for taking notes in real-time, it’s usually better for reviewing and summarizing after you’ve taken your notes. But one other thing it had introduced me to was tools and the notion that we should always have a “framework” or a “process”, or, crudely enough, a pipeline for condensing and processing our notes to put it in a very specific way (a guy created a system for that called evergreen notes). A good tool to do that - that I am currently using throughout my PhD - is Obsidian. I’d actually go as far as claim that it is one of the best; it allows you to view your notes as a network graph. I’ve found it very useful with hadeeth transmitters (I’m no specialist though, my main study is engineering), identifying cliques of scholars, and so on.
About this note-taking thing though, something that my mother - May Allah preserve her and reward her - had recently sent me a snippet of Shaykh Ubayd - رحمه الله - giving advice about this particular thing: note taking, where he recommended that each individual should have a notebook in which he collects the different categories of fawa’id (benefits) in! And he was talking about a physical non-electronic hand written notes.
Subhaan Allah, he was insightful. I am an electronic note taker (I use a keyboard, and an iPad with a pen), and while note-taking using these tools is very efficient in recording the net sum, they aren’t very efficient in retention. In fact, if you’re very good at typing (fast), your notes end up being a transcript with zero retention. Blank, no recall. It leaves you with a requirement to go over the notes once again - and like brother Abdulwali has mentioned regarding listening to the audio again, you won’t revisit it. I have notes since 2014 (On engineering and maths, I was using OneNote at the time) that I have never revisited!
What I have observed is that there is really a trade-off in note-taking between speed and retention. You can be fast, get a vis-a-vis ditto transcript, but not digest the knowledge. I tested that and noticed that actually being less meticulous and less swift with the note taking - in real time - and summarizing on the fly is actually more effective in making you learn and retain what you’ve learnt. Typing fast is good for Tafreeghat, but eventually AI will be able to do that (and possibly fabricate that, from a more dystopian perspective). Identifying key points to summarize and return though needs some practice.
But I’m growing old and the iPad with the pencil, while convenient, is slippery and the light hurts my eyes, lol. There is nothing better than what Shaykh Ubayd - رحمة الله عليه - has said, physical notebooks with physical notes. Retention is just superior. (Even though there are super cool apps out there like LiquidText that are amazing for shurooh!!)
On that note, though, there is a nice product called Rocketbook, which is a wipe-able notebook (which saves A LOT of money) that uses Pilot Frixion pens and then you can scan the pages and convert them to a PDF. It can be convenient for some people.
May Allah reward you for this beautiful podcast my brothers.
(P.S., for some reason I was able to access the podcast before it premiered somehow; just wanted to let you know :)).

I wanted to add to the part where you guys talked about setting up agreements when you talk to people you disagree with.
I remember Shaykh Al Albani رحمه الله was like that.
If you go back to his debates, you'd see that he would bring up what they agree about, then he would move forward, and he also used to be very calm and collected.

    Assalaamu alaykum.
You brothers (may Allah preserve you all) have mentioned throughout various episodes some benefits or jokes relating to non-muslim content. Specifically, in this podcast our brother Muhammad mentioned a book on note taking. The English language is saturated with expressions and phrases that oppose our Aqeedah (ex. Mother Nature), so much so that you may find such statements on a cereal box or even a miswak package. Being that most content that we may encounter daily in fields such a science, literature, health, and news is produced by non-muslims, it is difficult to avoid these things. What is the middle course between excessive screening of non-Islamic content and over exposure to it? I believe this issue is especially crucial for new muslims, those with families, or new muslims with families who can't control what might come home on a homework worksheet, let alone the internet.
In the first few years of my Islam, I almost completely cut of reading or listening to anything that was not related to the Qur'an and the Sunnah upon the understanding of the pious predecessors, and that was in order to build foundations for myself by which I could filter the truth from falsehood. What is your advice in this issue?
