I love this era. I was at Uni. Fantastic. Martha and the Muffins. The Buggles. Tears for Fears, Ultravox, Depeche Mode, OMD, Spandau Ballet, The Thompson Twins, Alphaville........different genres. But not artificially created by a businessman.
I can't believe you got no thumbs up for this. 100% spot on! Great bands you mentioned and couldn't agree with you more regarding today's music. This video was a great find!
Actually, the genres were artificially created by business men. It's called record labels and record execs. And music critics. They existed back then and were ever more influential pre-internet. It was every bit as commercial as what's around today. Stop romanticizing the past just because it's the past and you were younger.
@NunzOnDrugs Yeaah, I completely agree with you..bands today are so dull, and you look at bands of the late 1970s and early 1980s and they were more interesting, and had more bite....today's bands are just limp. I wasn't even alive when the Teardrop Explodes were around and they mean more to me than today's music
Agius and Hammer only recorded one track with the Teardrops' which was 'Passionate Friend'. Thankfully Cope came to his senses and got Balfe back in the band for 'Wilder'. Hammer looks as though he should've played keyboards for Peter Frampton and looks seriously uncool, as mentioned in Cope's excellent 'Head On' book.
Whoever uploaded this...where do you live? Don't mean to be nosy, but I just wanted to know where to drop off a crate of beer for uploading this. I've been looking for a live version of this song for yonks. One of my all time favourite tunes. Not as good as the studio version, but it has it's highlights. Balfe singing is quite funny. What an arsehole!
I love looking at these old video of Julian, especially when you compare it to his book, saying that both autobiographies are really good stories, don't know how much of it is true thou, he can't of remembered much with all the acid he says he took, and I can't imagine him sitting there doing a journal b4 bed each night with all that madness raving around him. to back this argument up one of the photos include JP from the La's who he calls Joe from the La's.
Good job he did. That bass player was prancing round the stage like a right prat! And the keyboard player wouldn't have looked out of place in a pub band.

At least they're singing live & actually playing the instruments. Went to see Gary Numan & Kraftwerk a few years ago on separate occasions, worst fucking waste of money ever, so robotic, just miming to backing tracks.
@@duncefunce1513 Yeah I agree. This is an all out energetic in your face punch of talent and awesomeness from all angles. I wouldn't complain - especially in this day and age of millennial facebook drivel and docility
no wonder he got rid of this band and went back to try to assemble the original line up. Good musicians, but no stage presence...and the bass trying to upstage Copey.
A brilliant track...there is something about this song....such memories

@@nullvoid244 Yes but there was much greater musical variety. So leave me alone! The music then was better than today...period.

Bands are cobbled together artificially such as boy bands and esp K Pop. I love Teardrop. I bought Kilimanjaro casette tapein 1983..still have it.
Bassist playing the role of New Romantic
I actually think underrated. I mean, they're rated, but not enough, I reckon.
Best beat-band to come out of Liverpool ;D.
Close but not quite..mate. Echo and the Bunnymen were better.....just my opinion.
@@stephenlisson1994 no chance reward is better than anything they did
Utterly genuine and real
THANK YOU A LOT FOR THIS! been also looking for some more live videos by the teardrops of this era!

Superior song by a superior guy. Epic. :-D

Yeah, the ONLY Treason video I can play on UA-cam, all the rest say " not on this platform" what the fuck does that mean? UA-cam sucks at times....

@highriselowlife
Was this Alfie Agius of the fixx ?
cant listen to passionate friend either, bloody you tube
Cope always seemed to hate anyone on his stage who tried to draw attention away from him. Agius never stood a chance with his goofy stage persona.
Great band pos punk
Belting
if you look carefullybe throws the bass player dirty looks
Helmut thats why Cope kicked them out

jim was cuter,
and they kept upstaging him. cope also hates anyone mouthing the words if a song.
He looks like Jim Morrison
Great apart from the bass player ruining it.

Julian is brilliant, as always, but the band are really annoying, especially the bass player and keyboard player.

I see a few of these comments, and I have to disagree! The band are commited, and there's never any danger of Cope being upstaged. Charisma on legs
