      The 80's had their ups and downs. It wasn't perfect. I think of all the good times and forget the bad, but I would give my left nut to go back in time to relive it all over again. Journey, REO Speedwagon, British Steel, British Invasion, RUSH, ACDC, the list is extensive. Today there seem to be fewer artists with any quality and talent. Too many samplers. Too man Autotune crap.

Looking back they just added a touch of 'New Wave' to their sounds and 'Poor Boy' is still an eternal fave of mine.

      Well, here in the UK in the mid 70’s into early 80’s we had bands that were world wide like The Who, The Rolling Stones, Black sabbath, T-Rex, yes, Duran Duran, level 42, the kinks, the jam, Pink Floyd, UB40, the Buzzcocks, the human league, Depeche Mode, the Cure, the clash, the sex pistols, led zeppelin, Eurythmics, Tears for Fears, Dire Straits, genesis, status quo, the sweet, 10cc, the animals, the pretenders, the undertones, Queen, iron maiden, Def Leppard, simple minds, madness, joy division, the police, Fleetwood Mac, Gary Numan, Ultravox, echo and the bunnymen, Judas Priest, thin lizzy, Motörhead, ELO, Roxy music, happy Mondays, Spandau Ballet, David Bowie and many more…so I wouldn’t say they were the beginning of.

      The magic of Memory Lane is that it erases the bad stuff so you just remember the good times. The reason you look upon it fondly is because you were young then. We all look fondly upon our youths, because everything is amazing when you're young.
      As we get older, the burden of age and time takes its toll, and if we are not mindful, we often lose the ability to appreciate the amazing things happening all around us.
      This is when it helps to have a kid or two around--they help us see the world in a new way. There are plenty of wonderful young artists working today--we're undergoing a rennaissance in both film and music, due to a more egalitarian means of production.
      Sure, there were some GREAT artists from our childhoods, but there are great artists now as well. It's possible to look back fondly while looking around at the present. Enjoy while you can. :)

    I love that the verses are made to sound uneasy and anxious; the 007 style muted guitar riff, the Prophet-5 synthesizer lead in the background, punctuating every sentence with a ghostly, distant howl. It's all so suspenseful and really makes me feel like I am alone in my room, lamenting over my love for someone, still paranoid and damaged from a previous relationship; just not trusting enough yet. Then the chorus kicks in all Elvis Costello style, with poppy organ and major chords, and Neil starts apologizing, stumbling over his words to the girl he loves. She wonders why he is so anxious and wound up over what she might be doing without him, behind his back, or when she doesn't answer the phone. "I don't know why sometimes I get frightened." he says, and then seeks reassurance "Tell me you're not lying".
    This is what makes a song fantastic. It all lines up! The sound, the lyrics, and the topic are all tightly nit; the tone of the music matches the mood of the lyrics, and it all comes together in a catchy song. I'm sure a lot of us have been in that jealous relationship, where you don't trust your lover because you think they're way out of your league, and could have anyone, so whenever you're left alone, you begin to ruminate over how they're probably not interested in you. "Why would she want to be with me, when she could have anyone?"

      yeah, but I'll tell you why it's sad, it's cuz we have proof we could have good music if we wanted it, we _know_ new music doesn't have to suck... reminds me of how punk was a reaction to disco, imagine just reminiscing about old pop/rock and letting disco reign forever

    • @anonuser5852
      @anonuser5852 4 роки тому

      ytubeanon There’s still good stuff out there, it is just very obscure. The real problem is that the popular record labels decided they could make just as much money cheapening out and trotting out the same old tarnished pop stars year after year. Like the film and TV industry, the music industry has been become addicted to “playing it safe”, only pushing the boundaries when it comes to explicit language and topics in music but never being willing to experiment with new and different musical styles. Eventually, that will change, and until then we have unknown acts to discover on the internet and classic hits like this one to fall back on.

      When you are thinking or speaking of her I think she hears you and she's watching over you. Always look out for signs. They can be very subtle. My mother-in-law let me smell her perfume a few years after she died it came to me for a split second. I was shocked I never had anything like this happen before or since. I hope you get a sign from your dear friend

    I heard this song as a junior in high school, we were all at a pizza restaurant called Mr. Gatti's. I didn't really think either way about the song, wasn't sure if I really liked the song, but there was a cute strawberry blonde girl that I had seen before but didn't know her. She said "OMG, I love that song". If she loved it, then I loved it! I was so in love with her, I couldn't hear this song without thinking of her. I bought the record and played the song everyday. Anne Adams, where ever you are today, I still think of you every time I hear this song and I still love this song.
