- A very RARE video for The Teardrop Explodes with my FAVOURITE track of theirs "When I Dream" along with "Treason" my 2nd FAV from this BRILLIANT band!
BRILLIANT video which TOTALLY captures the excitement of the Early 80s New Wave British movement!
I've introduced my son to Teardrop Explodes... he now loves them too... what a good mother I am...
You're an excellent Mother! Teaching your child very important musical taste. I've done the same with mine, and we deserve to be congratulated!! 😃
Incredible mum ,at that !!🙏🙏🙏
I heard this track on the radio only once, when I was a very young lad being sick at home. It has since never left my head (I go pahpahpah...) but could not find the song again as the only thing I knew was that the band was from Liverpool. No bandname, no title, no lyrics. And now today, 42 years later I have found it! MAGIC.
Glad you found this magical track.
Great metrics, Julian rules!!!
59yrs old now....summer in ibiza, good times
I actually have the Original single on 45rpm vinyl.
53 year old Pennsylvanian here, Pittsburgh to be exact, and we loved your British alternative music scene of the 80’s .
Teardrop Explodes, A Flock of Seagulls, Echo & the Bunnymen, Liverpool was a fabulous place to be musically in the early to mid 80’s
Absolutely spot on ..I grew up.then too ,add afraid of mice ,the wild swans ,dead or alive ❤
I have met Julian Cope, he didn’t let me down, it was in Manchester in Waterstones, so pleased I was there.
Not bad. The late '70s - early '80s Post-Punk era is among the greatest in musical history.
Growing up in the eighties these guys summed up being a kid in the UK back then.
Excellent music .. Talented and so original - Lyrics and music .. Flowing new wave - dare to be different WLIR
This reminds me when I was at college 1980, Christ I’m getting old…,😢😢😢😎👍👍👍
This song is so catchy it's almost addicting 🤣🤣
Loop, Repeat1 like me Now. Best dtf
Good melodies
The most underrated track ever released by the teardrops
All the exitement and joy of falling in love and thinking about that other person. Teardrop Explodes nailed it! Great song.
Spot on !
I wish I was alive when this came out. This is good music! 80s was fantastic
Great stuff. Saw them live on the Kilimanjaro tour. Brilliant. Not many mention it but the drumming on that album is special.
This entire album is crazy good!!!!!! I miss A Teardrop Explodes! I miss these days!
Kilimanjaro...superb album
Best pop album of 1980
Friggin way ahead of their time. love this song
Used to frequent a local nightclub back in the day. The 3 songs that stand out from that club were Love Song by Simple Minds, Charlotte Sometimes by The Cure, and When I Dream.
Absolutely bloody brilliant..!
I go uh bubh bubh bubh bubh bubh bubh bubh bubh bubh bubhuuh duh bubh ah uh bubh bubh bubh bubhdubha ohohoho
thank you for typin this
This is the sort of song that would've played perfectly in an episode of THE YOUNG ONES!
It was this week when I learned this song existed. HOW is that even possible? Because I AM THE 1980s. I was there when MTV was launched. I was dropping quarters at arcades back in 1981. I had leather ties. And starter jackets. And feathered hair. And I was beat up by bullies driving Camaros. And I saw Ferris when it first came out in theaters. And my first girlfriend wore banana clips in her hair and we listened to the Femmes and Bowie and early REM before we had our braces off. I had AFoS LP's on my bookshelf and U2's "War" poster on my wall. Yet .... it took me until 2022 to hear this specific song for the first time? How? What? Who? Where?
Julian Cope - a supreme pop technician at heart. Check out his superb 1984 solo album 'Fried'.
What a brilliant song from a fantastic Album, still sound fresh in 2020.
One of the best of the Scouse bands.
Very trippy! Julian Cope rules! Remember when it was OK for music to be unpredictable and exciting?
Saw Julian twice in Manchester puts a great gig on👍👍
Just about
They were the most unusual post-punk band - on acid!
great postpunk psychedelist, thank you Mr. Cope !
I played "Kilimanjaro" to DEATH when it came out. Thanks for posting this! What a great song.
The best album of 1980
I remember. This blew my mind. I was 17, had just got a driver's license, and I was driving around a lot doing errands, and listening to the late great KTIM in Marin County, CA. This song was in regular rotation and I could't wait to hear it on the shitty AM radio in my shitty 1975 Ford Maverick.
i had a shitty 1975 Ford Maverick also. But i loved that car! and the 80's were the best decade for me! Musically speaking.
glorious tripped out pop madness.......one of my favorite 80s bands.......they were blisteringly good live too.
These guys were pure genius
Saint Julian staring lovingly at his own reflected image...
Adrian Rutter hee hee ! Loving his recent Afflecks Palace new steal
I was just thinking that, very sophisticated for 1980.
Saw them in Leeds in 1980. Always loved this song. Thanks always Dean.
This was my first ever favourie song.
I went a baababbaabbaaa again after 35 years years. I used to listen to this over and over back in that day. Great times.
thanks for the funky trip to the past!!!
Brilliant song 🥊🥊💪😎💕
Yay. Found it finally. I knew this song existed and now I be happy .
This IMMEDIATELY takes me back the dancefloor at SPIT in Boston, where this was a huge hit when it came out!
the chorus and refrain of this song are excellent from start to finish and perfect vocals too by Julian cope.
For me hearing this as a demo on the John peel show signified the start of the electronic new romantic movement at the beginning of the 80s. The long album version is the best.
Julian I salute you!
Great frontman!
God this was terrific! I so miss these days
The first song I heard from these guys was ‘Sleeping Gas’, and I knew virtually right away that I’d discovered another gem of the 80s Pop/New Wave scene. Just a great, great group with such a uniquely catchy sound.
I cannot get enough of this song.
Loving this song - it came about as my friend D wanted it for a birthday present. Fantastic taste and timing as it became the backing track to one special relationship.
I discover Teardrop Explodes through a cheap cassette bought in a flea market!! Since then, I love this group and Cope´s career...
Yes, this was one of the good ones. (so many awesome life memories. wow....)... but all the tracks off Kilimanjaro
did it for my Ears.....
Brilliant pop song - A trippy dippy thing of beauty
Very cool.
Sometimes less is more.
JC and these gents ROCK!
Oh Julian, avant-garde boy soprano, wannabe actor and expressionist, drama teacher reaching for the heady heights in the 1980s, mixing it with the best the decade had to offer. Like so many many of the great Liverpool bands on the scene at the time so near the cusp. Incredible lyricist and distinctive voice. It is great to listen too and it still resonates. Thanks for the rare video.
Heard this on Rage. Aware of band and Julian Cope but never listened to music. Love this single. Very poppy but psychedelic. Gold
You have to listen to the album Kilimanjaro, Scott and Kieran.
I have an original in vinyl with the beautiful cover of the Mt Kilimanjaro and African plains in the forefront.
this was a love song for me by the teardrops . still is now kilimanjaro was so good ,.when i dream is like a heart beat in me . so so dreamy. and relaxing.10/10.
Where has THIS been hiding ALL this time..
Love that excellent song!
Love this tune. Thanks. Memories
This was created in such an enlightened time for music.
Amazing song, the extended version is hypnotic in a very good way. Try it!!
Oh fuck me!! I finally found this song. Geez, damn. Thank you.
Someone on Twitter just referenced this. Hadn't heard it in ages. Really takes me back when new wave/alternative music started to take over my senses.
❤😊, Hi, Val and Family! Xxx
I first heard them on John Peel, he played Poppies in the field. Got a ticket to see them a few weeks later. Great stuff, love the Kilimanjaro songs.
thx for posting! i can imagine JC dislike this along with sunshine playroom... but this is rare!!
we can see this classic lineup! dave balfe in his salor shirt & andy gill!!
Great to see this, pretty rare like you say. Thanks!
...pure euphoria...
MAGICAL
Such a catchy song its timeless!!!
Great stuff Jules. Timeless.
We got this in Australia around 1980 , a beautiful example of the new wave (post punk). Just feel good/sound good music. I wish these guys did more stuff.
If you haven't already, check out Julian's solo records - great for the most part.
The best Teardrops track just loose yourself in it, saw them 1980 at the Manchester Apollo, he was mad.
First time I heard Teardrop Exolodes was on the Phil Ross show, Radio Merseyside. He played Camera Camera.
When I Dream should’ve been a huge hit but it didn’t get the airplay it deserved. Radio One were probably too busy playing Captain Beaky or similar shabite.
I f'ing love it! We used to listen to this album so many times! One of the BEST Liverpool bands, EVER!!!
Fantastic album 1980 was the peek of 80’s musik
Love this song.
Hard to beat that as a song.
His book is worth checking out as well.
Great read.
@@localboychopswoodlocalboym6028 one hilarious and brilliant read. One of the best music books I've ever read.
Brilliant band !
Bill on drums 👌👌👌👌
Used to play the crap out of this album - loved it!
THANK YOU for posting this... I've waited so long to see this - also my favorite song by the Teardrop... wish I'd shot a video for my version of "Books" (off the Cope tribute CD).
Great name for a band.
Sometimes dreams do come true...
Ive woken myself up screaming from a dream and now as i think to myself the years still left for me will be the most frightening
Love that drummers smile
very good song
Yes !! Finally I found a music video on UA-cam without a “ one of the most underrated …” comment 🥳
@@mattgrant6910 … most underrated reply 😌
I f**king LOVE IT! They were so excellent....
This might be my favorite song by TE
Teardrop Explodes...what a big band
amazing
It was 1976 or 77, or sometime around there. I was 19 and a student at Lancaster university.
"You`ve got to listen to this!" Mary said as I came into her room in the Kirby Ireleth student block. She put this song on and even now its stood the test of time, back then it was just wow!
Mary dressed like a sorta hippy chick and had a ready blue eyed smile and long Black hair. Her build was slender and her favoured short skirts showed her long, toned legs off to perfection. She was smart, funny, liked the old poets like Rumi and played guitar. She was known as a nice girl, and everyone liked her. She was into history, a reasonable cross country runner and a snarling piece of fury on a hockey field. She wanted to join the forces after her study. We were the best of friends and despite her vibrant personality and beauty there was never any spark or hint of a relationship between us. We were more brother and sister to each other than lovers.
I had known her a year when her twin sister Janet visited from Hull university where she studied History. It took me about a full day before I could tell them apart at a glance. They were not only exactly the same to look at, but also in the way they spoke, and in their sense of fun and easy humour. Janet also played guitar, was a superb cross country runner but not quite as good or competative as her sister on a hockey field. They were more like clones than twins.
But janet was different in some ways. Mary was known as an attractive young woman, but Janet was a head turner, even if physically they were exactly the same. Mary was considered "attractive" but janet was just sexy as hell. She had a raw earthy appeal that smoked of her like perfume and the men`s (and a few women`s) jaws dropped as she passed.
There was one other thing, something that at first I found a little spooky. When Mary had to leave her sister for two days, I kept Janet company. We got in the same way, as I did with her sister. Except for one thing. In everything we did there was chemistry.
I had good times I had with that amazing, stunning, fun lady. She was a firebrand and a fuzz ball rolled into one and for a fair while we made each other laugh. I have nothing but respect for her and feel proud to have spent time with her.
I haven't seen Janet or her sister for over two decades. But this song brings them back to me, preserved at 19 full of fun and life and youth. I hope they are happy.
Nice memories, old chap. It moved me a bit cause I have similar ones and once in a while they come to me through music.
Amazing story. Lucky you to have met these girls.
In this age of information, it might not be too difficult to find something...
MrRainjunky Hey mate I don't think this was even written in 1977 why not try 1980 or so.
What did Mildred end up doing?
It was a single released September 1980. Was my fav TX song but that lies between Passionate Friend and Great Dominions now.
It looks like Zoo must have spent literally pennies on the videos.
Psychedelic vibes ~~
Para fliparlo..qué temón.
Oh my goodness, this takes me back to Bristol 1980 with the highly dangerous but irresistable Mr W. Everything about that time has a musical background from this to Adam Ant, Siouxsie, Elvis Costello, U2, Visage, Joy Division, XTC. Squeeze, Bruce, Steve Forbert....... so much good music and we were so young.................... down at The Dugout after late shift at Crockers.
Now young people make horrible music. What has happened?
I SO ffing love this song!!
Pure Pop Perfection
a great track.....shared to the Netshows Radio "Program 186" Playlist on youtube
Seen them in concert in Manfred hall Liverpool back in the day♥️
THANK YOU
Great record
Brilliant...🙂
