As promised, here is a link to my first ever on location mini-documentary, please watch it if you haven't done so already, thank you! ua-cam.com/video/FFwZIqzzY34/v-deo.html
David is a strong, powerful classic name. No matter where you’re from or where you go, people are familiar with it. It used to be a perennial Top 10 name and I always had other Davids in class. But as an adult, I haven’t worked with many Davids, particularly younger ones. There’s definitely many famous Davids that weren’t mentioned like Duchovny, Grohl, Foley, Grusin, Davies, Lynch, Crosby, Edmunds, Boreanaz. The list is endless.
I have a brother, a father, an uncle, a cousin, a 2nd cousin, a brother-in-law, 2 cousins-in-law, and a nephew all named David (plus a few I may be forgetting). My wife and I have made the executive decision that there will be no children of ours named David... Especially since I now work at a job where all but one of us are either named David, married to a David, or is the son of another David who also works at the same museum.
I'm just glad my wife's family is from México, so our kids will have an 'Uncle David', and a 'Tío David'. My cousins had to distinguish my dad and my Uncle David as 'Uncle Dave' and 'Uncle David' to keep them straight.
I remember hearing an interview on Australian radio not long after David Attenborough was knighted and the interviewer gushed "Should I call you Mr. Attenborough or Sir David?" He replied "Call me Davo." ❤
My brother David has a brother in law called David , and that David's sister is married to a Dave- can be confusing. Unlike England , Scotland has had two King Davids, although Edward the 8th's name within the family was David.
Another reason I’d imagine David isn’t seen as an old person name is became of the youth and strength associated with the biblical David. He’s often depicted as a heroic young shepherd and that cements David as a youthful name is most people’s minds.
My name is David Anthony Lewis. When I found out what my names meant I went to my dad and told him that I was a beloved courageous warrior of inestimable worth. He quickly reminded me that inestimable could mean too small to estimate. 🤣🤣
Went through a period where I wasn't the biggest fan of my name because it seemed like it belonged to people older than me and never anyone my age, apparently they are out there though 😅 happy with who I am now though 😊
So many Daves, so little time.. Tennant, Bowie, Grohl, Gahan, Attenborough, Byrne, Pikley (He goes by Dav), Hasslehoff, you can make a fighting game roster where the Daves fight. Davo Attenborough can narrate if wanted.
My cousin Tommy has a brother David. Also, I have a good friend named Dave, and a coworker David, so of course it's a good name. "Beloved" is a nice meaning, and fairly accurate.
I've always liked my name. I was once in a class of six people, three Davids, two Karens, and a Barbara. At least it's not as overwhelmingly popular as Mike/Michael, but it's a very common name. Thanks for covering it today!
Anecdotally, every David I know (4) goes by Dave. And weirdly enough, I saw the "name popularity" graph for Gary just yesterday. It has a sharp rise, peaking in 1950, and then an equally sharp decline. Sorry, Garys. But my generation isn't naming their sons after the jerk rival from Pokemon.
there was a time when if you were going to baptized Christian you had to be in part named after a saint my late maternal grandfathers name was David Joseph Kennedy he passed away in March 2017 aged 79
That's a Roman Catholic thing. It wasn't so much you had to be given a Saints name, as you had to have a Christian name - so if you were named something like 'Apple' for example, you'd be given a Saints name. This isn't a thing in Protestantism.
Fun fact! - David is the most popular boy name in Israel among male Jewish babies. Also fun fact! - Muhammad is actually the most popular name of all babies born in Israel, despite Arabs only making up 21% of the population. I know several Davids myself.
I like the name David. it;s my middle name and my grandpas name. There are so many cool Dave's to the point where my brother and I came up with the theory that all Dave's are cool. Not all people that go by their full name David are cool though, but a majority still are. David Suzuki is another David I think of.
My second year in college, I lived on a dorm floor with six other Daves. We adopted nicknames so we could talk about each other without getting confused. I wasn't as cool as Horticulture Dave or Amish Dave or Wiley Dave or Macaroni Dave. My nickname was pushed on me by my neighbor, who said I looked like Homer Simpson. Enough said.
I love the name, it is my name. Everywhere I've been there's always been 1 to 6 other Davids, my extended family has a few but I'm the only one in my immediate family. The only time I was the one and only David was for a period of time at my workplace. It was nice.
I'm running 3 weeks behind on my videos, though I'll go watch your In The Wild edition after I'm done here. Does that mean you've reached your Patron goal? Woot!
My name is David, I have uncle and a 2nd cousin named David. Two of my wife's friends married Davids and named their sons David. As an Art teacher I've taught 4 Davids and 3 who's last name is David.
How do you make a video about the name David without going into detail about its diminutive, Dave? So many notable Daves throughout infamy not to mention an entire TV channel.
Quite a few Davids in my family. My father, uncle (mother's brother), and cousin are all David. Interestingly, my father wanted to name me David as well, but my mother nixed this idea since there was already a David Sr. and Jr. in the immediate family (the aforementioned uncle and cousin, who both go by Dave). So David was placed as my middle name instead.
My grandads name but I couldn't name my son after him because my married name is Jones and in Australia there's a shop called David Jones lol . My grandad rarely was known as David but as ginger or ginge he was a red head. My brother is Gary his best friend is David haha
It’s interesting when you look outside the English speaking world. I’m Greek and in Greece the name David or Δαβιδ is not popular. The name is more associated with the Bible . I don’t think I’ve ever met a Greek David.
Dan Soders comedy special is called, son of a GARY… lol. Which is badass. But I know only one David, my brother but it’s spelled super unique lol Davide..lol. Where I’m at in the US I feel like the name David is gone the way of Gary I don’t know any or hardly any one under the age of 50 with the name David. So this video was a surprise to be honest. 🤷♀️
My name is very old, and of course based on my people's religion. Not a usual biblical character to name a child either. I haven't met a single one of my name in my age range -- only old people and obituaries. I still love my name regardless, it means "Of the Sun/Little Sun" in aramaic/syriac/hebrew and the Sun is a marvelous celestial.

Do Dominick Patcrick
Why do David's prefer Dave?
Do Noel or tord
One thing that most of the Davids that you mentioned, is the fact that they are all beloved which means that they are all living up to the name
Had a missionary told me it was to Be-loved instead of beloved.

I have a brother, a father, an uncle, a cousin, a 2nd cousin, a brother-in-law, 2 cousins-in-law, and a nephew all named David (plus a few I may be forgetting). why are there so many Davids? isn't there any confusion??
I remember hearing an interview on Australian radio not long after David Attenborough was knighted and the interviewer gushed "Should I call you Mr. Attenborough or Sir David?" He replied "Call me Davo." ❤
The Bristol video was great, please do more of these!
My brother David has a brother in law called David , and that David's sister is married to a Dave- can be confusing. Unlike England , Scotland has had two King Davids, although Edward the 8th's name within the family was David.
Even here in Germany, I had a classmate named David. It even is pronounced the english way.
Another reason I’d imagine David isn’t seen as an old person name is became of the youth and strength associated with the biblical David. He’s often depicted as a heroic young shepherd and that cements David as a youthful name is most people’s minds.
Plus a lot of cool people have my name
Finally it’s my time to shine!
My son is a David born in 1995 very late in popularity it suits him so well he has two brothers with 1960s names Peter and Andrew we were very retro.
My name is David Anthony Lewis. When I found out what my names meant I went to my dad and told him that I was a beloved courageous warrior of inestimable worth. He quickly reminded me that inestimable could mean too small to estimate. 🤣🤣

I'm David Anthony also...how funny
Because it’s the best name in the world, clearly.

Biblical names are the best names. And Latin names. My name is Daniel.

Hello Wendy how are you doing today
It’s a great name!🤣
There were 6 Davids (including me) in my year at school. Got confusing, so we mainly went by our surname
I've always liked my name. I was once in a class of six people, three Davids, two Karens, and a Barbara. At least it's not as overwhelmingly popular as Mike/Michael, but it's a very common name.

I have a cousin called David. Definitely named from the bible. As is all his siblings.
I just love the name of David. 😍
Fun fact: Nicholas Lyndhurst has played both Gary (Sparrow in Goodnight Sweetheart) and Dave (Trigger's name for Rodney, Only Fools And Horses).

I only know the Gary from the game IB and the snail from spongebob. I forgot all about that Gary from pokemon.
David's probably the most popular name which I actually like. Idk how to explain it.

my name is David
Some of us are Davids, but most of us are Daves.
To be honest I have never liked it when someone calls me Dave, because my name is already short enough why shorten it more
@@dnm3732 Me neither, but I've mostly given up on that fight.

I have an uncle named David, and my cousin who is uncle David’s daughter married a guy named David!
Literally as i clicked on this video my sons phone rang..it was his best friend David...
David's also the name of the American Boy from Cooking Mama.
David is associated with strength, a victor and a physically gifted male.
I am a David and I am not physically gifted at all, and I don't think anyone but you associates my name with those things
as a muslim, ive only heard dawood pronounced with a w, instead of a v

In addition to David, דוד also means uncle and water heater.
