This has been such a great series. A V-pin is next on my list of projects once the new year rolls around, so thanks for documenting your entire process so we can learn from it!
@@wayofthewrench I'm a big fan of the Stern TMNT Pro table that they released in 2020 so if I can find that artwork, I'll use that. The color scheme matches my arcade cab so it'd be perfect for my Nerd Lab :)
You have taken us on a wonderful journey. Well done 'Pinball Rabbi. Thanks for your generosity of sprit and sharing lots of fabulous tips and experiences along the way. A gold class series.!!!
Thank you for renewing my interest in Virtual Pinball! You have taken an incredibly difficult hobby and made it 95% accessible to everyone. And anyone who's ever built these knows about that extra 5%!
Thanks for your kind words! I'm super happy that everyone is enjoying the series and that I can contribute to this amazing hobby. Yeah that last 5 percent is a learned lesson from building a vpin..lol. thanks for the watch and your support for the channel!
Phenomenally clean built! Wow. The attention to detail is out of this world. You certainly embrace the saying:" If it is worth doing, it is worth doing well!". Congrats on a great cabinet and excellent videos.
Thank you very much, I'm glad you enjoyed the video and like my hard work! It was a labour of love really. Stay tuned for my next big budget build coming soon! Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel!
Amazing job Emil! So clean. I can't imagine the hours learning, researching, building, tutorializing, filming and editing. What a great resource. Thank you. Rad synth music too!
Thanks dude! Yeah it turned out nice, you'll have to come check it out sometime! You also gotta make one of these! Thanks for the watch and the support for the channel!
This is the best series ever! I love how maticulous you are. Far beyond that of a stern asembly line. Just amazing to see how perfect and precise you get everything. Well done!
Super thanks dude! Love that I can be a part of this amazing hobby. Yeah no dissing major pinball manufacturers but there's just no replacement for spending time and effort on the little details to make a project like this perfect. They can't compete when there's a bottom line to reach and the extras take too much time and cost more. My vpin cabinet will probably out live me the way I built it....lol. thanks for the watch and your support for the channel!
I agree with the other comments, this has been an amazing journey and I hope you continue with Vpin videos. The Vpin community is very creative and dynamic and having such a great teacher sharing and explaining will help grow the hobby. I will also say, your attention to detail such as the grounding and cable management, has me contemplating some adjustments with my table :-). All the best.
Thanks, I'm glad people have enjoyed the series. Yeah I'm nowhere near done, just the budget build is done. There will be lots of upgrades and videos and future builds too. Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel!
It's been a long journey, 2+ years I think, you should be proud of it! Congrats! I think the main lessons are resilience, as things don't always go right, adaptability as you have to find solutions to problems, and persistence. 👍
Wow. Moving up in the world. Virtual Pinball legend TerryRed even commented on this video! Nicely done, and I am sure you are super proud of the cab, and rightly so. I have followed this build from beginning to end and your choices and explanations have been top notch. A total cost breakdown of your cab would be awesome. This is especially true since you called it a "budget" build. Keep up the great work!
Right? Pretty cool when Terry Red loves your work and Major Frenchy shares out your playlist. Pretty cool. Honestly, it's such a cool hobby..... I'm just glad to be a part of it and help contribute to it. Yeah I probably will make a budget breakdown video for it. Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel!
It's an amazing build, but I'm a bit sad that this building series is over soon. Hopefully you doesn't stop publishing videos about your VPin in the future, eg updating the system, or adding tables. Thanks a lot again, this building series is THE resource for helping people to build a VPin!
Thanks Gerhard! Don't be sad, the budget build might be almost over but there will be lots more content coming out for vpins, arcade builds, auto diy, welding, etc. plus I plan on doing a bunch of upgrades to the vpin. Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel!
Glad you liked the interior, it was a lot of hours cleaning up the wiring only to show people and then immediately hide all that work...lol. thanks for the watch!
Yup.... being Canadian means... pinball parts are not cheap! I was posted to Petawawa, Ontario when I built mine. So there wasn't "any" electronics related parts to buy nearby anywhere as its pretty isolated, and everything took forever to get there! Despite being an electronics tech, I just did whatever messy hack solution worked at the time. Seeing your immaculate clean build makes me super jealous! I'm still using my hacked up xbox 360 gamepad, lol (my KL25Z is only for nudge / tilt bob). Very nice work!
Yeah it's crazy how much stuff is here in Canada..... it's literally 50 to 60% higher. Don't be jealous, every build deserves love for the time and effort we put into them. It's not just the final product, it's all about enjoying the build too. I'm sure you enjoyed building yours too! I had a blast building mine and I'm looking forward to setting up some Terry Red FP tables! Thanks for the watch and the props! Cheers!
I cant thank you enough for these videos. You are the reason i was able to finish my cab. Looking forward to adding more toys to my cab and your future videos.
You're very welcome! I'm happy to help and glad you are enjoying the series! These vpin cabinets can be a daunting project so I knew this series would be a good one to create. Yes, there will be lots of upgrades to come plus way more content and cool projects. Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel!
B...E...A...Utiful. That is just about as tight of an interior as I ever seen and puts mine to shame. Excellent job. Note, that I got excited and skipped ahead a bit, but this is just awesome.
Wow! Turning out beautiful, inside and out! Sorry to see/hear you fried you bored. Mistakes are often costly! 😢... Besides that! Absolutely Epic build. Can't wait for the big reveal when you get the new board!
Yes! Thank you! It turned out pretty awesome! Yeah that sucked big time but made for great content so it's all good. Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel!

Thanks! It turned out pretty nice I think. You're very welcome, glad you're enjoying the channel! Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel! Cheers!
You sir are a master craftsman! What a journey, and this final bit was just so satisfying to watch. The interior is one of the most beautiful and clean I’ve ever seen. I love how clean the interior LED strips were integrated AFTER THE FACT - it turned out perfect! And it can’t be said enough how much work it takes to put together a video of this length. Kudos on a job well done. Can’t wait for the unveiling! Now play some pinball 😁
Thank you very much for your kind words! I try hard to make the very best videos I can so it's always nice to hear from subscribers. Yeah it's a ridiculous amount of work to film these videos but people are enjoying them so it's worth it. Yeah the led lighting turned out great, I just kept thinking of cool accent lighting and the ultra white interior made it look great. Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel! Cheers!
I’m going to make a bartop arcade cabinet but love watching this build because how good it is! It’s a masterpiece! I’ll definitely use some ideas from this to put into an arcade cabinet 👍
Thanks Mikey! Love that you are enjoying all my tips! If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel!
Fantastic series! I had my cabinet pretty much done and your series inspired me to add some toys, SSF, addressable LEDs and completely re-do my front end. I did my build about 2 years ago and I also painted the inside of my cab white and used those same plastic wire minders and they are awesome. Sorry you fried your KL25Z. They are incredibly hard to find right now. So if anyone is looking to start a project, but can't find a KL25Z one option is to check out Cleveland Software Design. He has all kinds of interface, expansion boards and virtual pin parts. Thanks again for doing this series and hopefully getting more people interested in this very cool hobby. Side note - you can also use the end of your soldering iron (just not the very tip) to melt the heat shrink tubing.
Awesome! Glad I could inspire you to mod your vpin! Gotta love all the cool tech eh? Yeah Cleveland stuff looks cool, maybe I'll try it out for another build. Thanks for the tip about using the soldering iron. I think I'm starting to get to the point where I know so many tips that I start forgetting them too. Lol. Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel!
I installed my playfield trim (railings) with the tape left on just because of the finality of taping it to the wood. It still looks and stays on great.
Ya know what.....so did I. I looked at it and it sits super flush so I left it as I could always do it in the future but added the tips for people if they did. Thanks for the watch!
Glad you're enjoying the tips and the series! There's a lot of love that's been poured into this one for sure.... thanks for the watch and your support for the channel!
Cheers! I appreciate hearing that! If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate a share out on your social media so I can help more people! Good luck on your build!
I wondered if the speaker visibility would be an issue when I saw what the completed back box looked like after the initial build. Glad to see some speaker cloth going in there to clean up the look!
Great series, thank you! I'm not there yet, but one of these days I'll get to build one. One suggestion, make that LED USB connection easy to get to so that, if you ever need to power down to work inside the box, you can externally power the LEDs inside and use them as work lighting ;)
Bruh....you have to build it! Just start and go slow, take your time and you can thank me later. It's way too cool a project to not do it. Yeah not a bad idea. I can plug the PSU into an extension cord and then it works too as I did that a bit when filming. Thanks for the watch and send me some pics of your build when you're done! Cheers!
As someone who have been building their own VPX table and watching our channel over the last year. I feel your pain. My main goal of my machine is buy as little over the counter stuff as possible finding alternative ways to accomplish as close to the same thing a much lower price.
Nice! That's what I did too but I spent a little on parts to really make it authentic. Not too shabby for $1,500 though. Anyone can spend money but it takes a real craftsperson to create without the money! Thanks for the watch!
"It's just money...." The catch cry I have been using for months doing my build. Amazingly I am at the point of having to fit my painted backbox to the cab and as you mentioned in past videos about paint, oil based paint is touch dry in 24 hours but even after a week is still not cured and can easily stick and come off especially when a little thick so I love that tip with hte wax since I litterally thought about that just 30 minutes ago thinking I wanted to start fitting monitors and stuff but dont want it to stick when loaded. Damn, I have actually a spare KL25Z board already flashed with Pinscape and tested but I decided to install a Cleveland Software Design PinOne solution since that is so much neater and self contained than messing with power supplies and all that cabling.... would also solve almost every issue in this video since everything is a simple plugin connector. Costs a little extra but even with the $500au shipping and import taxes, it saves so much time.
Yeah it's just money but money's also money.....lol. it's easy to spend too much too. Yeah I'm sure the pinone system is good, just a bit pricey for me. Glad the wax trick worked for ya. Thanks for the watch!
So... Probably a good advice to protect all 12V connectors everywhere from the beginning... You learned it the hard way, people should definitely be aware of it...
Goodnight! My friend, these kl25z boards are extremely sensitive, I burned two boards in the process of assembling my pinball lol. I almost gave up on the project when the second board burned, but I continued and I'm close to finishing the pinball. Now your project is wonderful, your pinball is fantastic and your video series is the best on the Internet. Congratulations!! Sorry for the English, I live in Brazil and I don't speak English, I just translate using Google lol
Ouch! Now I don't feel too bad only burning one up. Thank you very much! Glad you're enjoying the channel and my teaching style. Hey, your google English is pretty good....lol. thanks for the watch and your support for the channel. Cheers from Canada!
A similar goof happened to me with my Virtuapin kit. I bought a replacement KL25Z on Amazon and reflashed to Pinscape. I didn't realize Virtuapin boards were closed source 😢 until it was too late.
What a great video series this was. I am building a cabinet too and learned so much from you. I didn't realize I would be bummed out when it was over! I just wanted to thank you and ask you if you put some kind of vibration eliminator under your PC slider.
Thank you very much for your kind words! How's your vpin build going? Don't be sad, there will be lots of vpin videos to come and new arcade projects as well as automotive/welding videos too. No I actually forgot about that. I need to see if there is room as I have lots of that anti vibration mat left over. Thanks for the reminder and the watch! Cheers!
Cabinet is going okay, I just got my graphics on and am starting the inside now. The software part is scaring me a bit due the amount of info out there and determining what is outdated and what is new. Looking forward to more of your brilliant videos!@@wayofthewrench
@@wayofthewrench welp... A tv hunting we will go... Just fried my backglass tv trying to fix vertical lines caused when mounting to the backglass frame I built ... Just money huh.... 😅😩
Next video suggestion. Updating your tables. Constant file updates with improved visuals and game play occur every week. How to properly handle those updates for an improved experience.
Thanks for the suggestion, yeah the updates are crazy how many of them there are. Tell you it's a very active hobby to be in. Yeah there will be a bunch of videos to come. Stay tuned! Thanks for the watch!
Does not compute, I am a real person. The death of my fellow cpu will not be in vain. Initiate first protocol......protect AI UA-camr Emil......Beep Boop. Lol, thanks for the watch!
You're videos are very helpful. I’m following your instructions to check if my power supply is grounded but my multimedia doesn’t beep. What should I look for on the display to verify ground?
Multimeter? Yeah most don't have a beep function but all of them will go to zero or close to zero when you put the leads together. Hope that helps. Thanks for the watch!
@@wayofthewrench Meant to type multimeter (haha). Anyway, I think I figured it out. I was touching a part of the case that wasn't grounded so getting nothing and getting really high numbers on the other side of the case. I got lower numbers when holding the probes more steady.
Hello... what is the name and where did you get that rectangular channel you used to contain your wire bundle in the cab?? Thank you for the vids!!! Great stuff
Thanks! I have a great parts video in the playlist that should have a link for you. It's a Stageek brand wire management system. It's really nice and I'm using it on my big budget build too. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
You skipped my video! In the words of Great "How dare you!". Lol. The led lights are only on when the coin door is on so there is no leaking light. There aren't any light leaks even when it is on though either. Thanks for the watch!
yep i trashed a kl board in a similar way i dropped small needle nose pliers that shorted out across a illuminated button terminals 😪 and recently in a new build killed a ledwiz i guess diligence is key🤣🤣🤣
Is your bass shaker connected to the sub output on the amp with the front exciters? Any reason you didn't do another bass shaker with the rear exciters? Space? Cost? Unnecessary?
Whaaaaa? Small world eh? Yeah that could have come in handy....oh well. I just bought the entire Virtuapin kit again just for the board. Hang on to that board.. it's like gold! Thanks for the watch neighbor!
I would not have grounded everything, instead insulated exterior metal parts from internal ... basically double insulation (class 2 appliance) would have been easier and more safe, as for static, by grounding the metal parts you guarantee a static shock.
Hrmmm not sure about that but this is how real pinball machines have their ground straps installed for the last 60 years so it should be good. Thanks for the watch and your info! Cheers!
I drilled a hole in the motherboard for getting the graphics card firmer and stable, not realising that it´s multilayered, so that cost me a new one. Oh well... as we say here it´s ´learnmoney´.
Ouch! Yeah that was definitely a learned lesson there, you always learn these with money mistakes. Oh well.... it's tuition for a really cool hobby. Thanks for the watch!
Man....the commenters have told me about 10 lost kl25z boards now.....crazy, who knew there were that many of us making mistakes. Thanks for the watch!
Great video Emil! Sorry for your loss of the kl25z, real bummer! But its part of this hobby, i remember grilling a adressable led stripe with the wrong power supply (12 instead of 5v), pops up like firecracker ;) As always, good tipps and even problems where shown, great help for us all, thank you!
Thanks Sam! Yeah it sucked, just glad I was able to get another quickly and get it finished. It just takes a momentary lapse of judgement and poof! It's gone up in smoke. Thanks for the watch!
Possibly, depending on condition and desirability. A real pinball machine can also be MUCH more expensive depending on those same factors. Although I would question the fairness of comparing a single pinball table to a virtual pin that can house effectively infinite tables.
God no. A decent pinball machine is $7,000-20,000 and it's only one. You might get a worn out EM one for $1,000. I spent roughly $1,500 for my vpin. Thanks for the watch!
Absolutely beautiful! I know that you went budget, but this thing eventually deserves the 4K treatment.
Thank you very much! Yeah the plan is to do a big budget upgrade build to 4k so keep your eyes peeled! Thanks for the watch!

Yeah it didn't really big me until I painted the grills but with the cloth it looks slick. Thanks for the watch!
Well done sir!
Why thank you good sir....lol. Thanks for the watch! Cheers!
So... Probably a good advice to protect all 12V connectors everywhere from the beginning... You learned it the hard way, people should definitely be aware of it...
Yeah for sure! That's why I added this in the video....way to easy to hurt yourself and the parts. Thanks for the watch!
nice and clean inside! 👍 you forgot the shrink tube on the 5v interlock connector ;) ;) ;)
Thanks! It might just be the editing but thanks, I'll take a look. Cheers!
Great Videos!!
Thanks! Glad you like them! Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel!
Absolut Amazing!!!!!
Thanks! Turned out pretty nice eh?
A similar goof happened to me with my Virtuapin kit. I bought a replacement KL25Z on Amazon and reflashed to Pinscape. I didn't realize Virtuapin boards were closed source 😢 until it was too late.
It's just too easy to do. Oh well, now you have an excuse to build another vpin! Thanks for the watch!
I hear ya, I'm needing to update my vpin now too....soooo far behind.
Awesome clean work, I blew up my KLZ too :D
Thanks! Dude.... everyone is commenting on blowing up their parts..... it's crazy. Thanks for the watch!
I cried with you 😥😥, but it looks BEAU-TI-FUL... so far lol
Yeah that sucked....oh well it's just 🤑. Thanks, yeah it turned out nice. Thanks for the watch!
@@wayofthewrench welp... A tv hunting we will go... Just fried my backglass tv trying to fix vertical lines caused when mounting to the backglass frame I built ... Just money huh.... 😅😩
Ouch! At least it should be too much for a backglass monitor as compared to a crazy pricey playfield one. Good luck!
@@wayofthewrenchgood ole FB marketplace.... Got 1 for $20. Back in action.
Awesome!
Bravo.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video! Cheers!
Wow! Also, thanks for including the part where you blew the chip. Let's us know you are human
You might have to sand a bit of the paint off to get to the raw metal.
Hello... what is the name and where did you get that rectangular channel you used to contain your wire bundle in the cab?? Thank you for the vids!!! Great stuff
Thanks! I have a great parts video in the playlist that should have a link for you. It's a Stageek brand wire management system. It's really nice and I'm using it on my big budget build too. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
@wayofthewrench nice looking raceway
Omg, that looks so clean compared to my cabinet. 😮 I do however wonder if the white will not make small leds light leak to your playfield border?
You skipped my video! In the words of Great "How dare you!". Lol. The led lights are only on when the coin door is on so there is no leaking light. There aren't any light leaks even when it is on though either. Thanks for the watch!
@@wayofthewrench I did not. I mean LEDs from amps / pc / pinscape / ...
Nah, they are under the monitor so no light leaking anywhere. Cheers!
Emil..... I was TOLD that "soon" we'd be removing that tmolding tape. AHEM.
Lol...gotcha! It's coming off soon. Next video I swear.... thanks for the watch!
yep i trashed a kl board in a similar way i dropped small needle nose pliers that shorted out across a illuminated button terminals 😪 and recently in a new build killed a ledwiz i guess diligence is key🤣🤣🤣
Ouch, that sucks. I've been hearing from tons of people who have done something like this...who knew everybody does it too. Lol. Thanks for the watch!
Yeahhhhhh Buddy....
Dude!!!!! Buddy!
Is your bass shaker connected to the sub output on the amp with the front exciters? Any reason you didn't do another bass shaker with the rear exciters? Space? Cost? Unnecessary?
It's shown in my earlier videos but yes, I do have a rear base shaker that is just in front of the PC. Thanks for the watch!
@@wayofthewrenchthanks. I missed that in the SSF video somehow.
There's a lot of stuff so easy to miss stuff. Cheers!
I just watched this and thought too bad I didn't know you burnt that kl25z board, I have a spare that I don't need and I'm also in Tsawwassen.
Such a clean build!!! Great series!! Inspired me to get moving on my build. Bummer on the KL25z card.
Thanks dude! Glad I could get ya going on your build! Yeah it sucked but hey..... it's just money. Thanks for the watch!
I've popped 2 of them
Man....the commenters have told me about 10 lost kl25z boards now.....crazy, who knew there were that many of us making mistakes.
Thanks for the watch!
is a real pinball machine cheaper ?
A newer real pinball machine can run $10,000 or more (Canadian) easily.
Yes but only has 1 game :D
Possibly, depending on condition and desirability. A real pinball machine can also be MUCH more expensive depending on those same factors. Although I would question the fairness of comparing a single pinball table to a virtual pin that can house effectively infinite tables.
God no. A decent pinball machine is $7,000-20,000 and it's only one. You might get a worn out EM one for $1,000. I spent roughly $1,500 for my vpin. Thanks for the watch!
Nice video! I'm also posting videos of my build, but it's a slow process :)
Thanks! Oh yeah? I'll check out the videos, drop me a shout out in one of your videos! What's the channel? Same as your handle? Thanks for the watch!
@@wayofthewrench It's on this channel indeed. The build was already completed a year ago, I didn't really know your channel back then
ok cool, I've seen some of your clips on UA-cam already. Nice!
