I feel like Imma get dragged for this but if a black woman was charging 500$ for this people would laugh in her face. This woman is definitely in the right market because her consumers are going to assume that what she's doing MUST be worth it for one reason. AND she's milking a big insecurity? She's lining her pockets with black women's coin for a diet jeri curl. But it's cute though so don't come for me y'all 😂

I’ve had my cosmetology license for 9 years and that’s a jheri....... and at a black salon it’s nowhere near $900.
Hell I just did one on my aunts hair last month and she’s been rocking a curl for 20 years. STOP GIVING GINA TO MUCH CREDIT FOR SOMETHING THATS BEEN IN OUR COMMUNITY FOR YEARS.

Hey girl, yea the price is 👀 lol but I’m not sure where in the video I gave credit to her creating the Jheri curl? Not gonna lie, they seem pretty similar, but not the same though. We probably could have been more clear in posting about the differences. And from what I’ve read, Gina already knows this has been in the black community for years, she’s been doing it on black clients herself, so it wouldn’t make sense for her to take credit for it which she’s not doing. Gina herself can explain it better, so we’ll do a follow up to this video with her on this soon! I have questions too :)

I have a Gina Curl and it was $700 ($250 deposit). I was two years post transition when I got it. My hair was nice (curl definition) for about 6 months and then it really dried out. Shedding was an issue, although she claims your hair doesn't shed. Everyone's hair sheds - its science.; so I'm not really complaining (just wish she'd stop making her product God's gift to black women). My new growth was healthy and I experience no breakage between processed and unprocessed hair. But I feel as if my ends are thinning out from the chemicals. My natural hair was full from root to tip. I think this is masked because most people wait 6-12 months before getting a touch up. And, once you clip the thinning ends, and have 3-4 inches of growth, you can't really tell. It would be nice to see a multi-year client's hair.
My biggest complaint is that hair draws up when fully dry (and tangles with slip knots). All of those pictures on her social media sites show semi-dry hair. But when it dries, there is shrinkage - my hair is about nine inches all over, but when dry it barely touches my shoulders (6 inches). I don't recommend it, as it is expensive and only looks good on people who have a lot of density in their hair (I don't) and I love my natural 3c/4a curls much better. Also, I think that the customer service is lacking - if I am going to pay close to $1000 for service (travel/hotel/hair) - I expect to be treated well.

It would be great for more people to see and like your comment. It doesn’t matter what you get, all chemical treatments will have the tendency to dry your hair out, thin it out, and will require maintenance just like any hair type.

I’ve researched and found out. that Gina has trained technicians at her salon who are pros at applying the Gina Curl. She doesn’t do everyone’s hair herself. Also, the amount you pay for a touchup is less than the initial amount. You go in for a touchup every 6 months or so. I’m old enough to remember the Jheri curl back in the 80s. It too was way better for your hair than a relaxer, and people’s hair grew like crazy. Gina’s process combines the concept of a Jheri curl and Japanese thermo straightening to come up with a process that is a far better technique and much healthier for the hair.

(Remember the Poodle Perm.) This is the same thing. You can choose the size of your rods. Not the same as Ammonium Hydroxide Aka Creamy Crack. You can not mix two processes together. If you have one you can not have the other.

It is the glycerine containing curl moisturizers that are used on the hair daily to moisturize the hair. Women also said their hair grew like weeds with the jeri curls from decades ago for the exact same reason of moisture.
Another factor to length retention is the ease of detangling by having a smoother curl pattern which means less tension on the hair detangling and less snapping and breakage.
The last factor is the technique which is just the 1) straightening/rearranging cream. 2) rod set under dryer with no chemicals until fully dry
    3) neutralizing on the rods rinsing and comb out
Honestly, this “new” technique can be done simply with Carefree curl rearranger cream and neutralizer solution alone without the perm wrap lotion period. So the only difference between this technique and other curls is wrapping the hair on the rods with no solution applied and allowing the hair to fully dry under the dryer before applying the neutralizer solution to the rods to set the bonds in the hair to take to the new configuration on the rods you’ve selected.
It does avoid overlapping chemicals into the previously treated ends which does mean less cumulative damage to the hair.
Those who wish to transition from relaxer can simply relax their hair with Carefree curl Rearranger cream instead of relaxer and then simply do wet sets and wraps to wear he hair straight instead of blow drying and flat ironing while they transition from sodium hydroxide relaxer to ammonia thioglycolate curly perm solution straightener. Months later, at some point when they feel they have enough hair straightened with the ammonia thioglycolate chemical instead of relaxer, they can then simply do their next root retouch, and this time also rod set it under a dryer with just water and no setting lotion until fully dry. Then apply thio neutralizer to the rods once fully dry. Allow it to sit a while, rinse rods and remove them. When they do this rod set and neutralizer, the relaxed ends will be obvious because they will not take a curl. One can then trim the straight relaxed ends off or leave them as you see fit.

For a real natural this is like going backwards. The goal is to love the texture you have and to achieve growth. Once your hair grows out you have to keep getting the roots done, like a perm does. Now if that's not your goal then this would be perfect 🙂

So, let's say you have heat damage we can use a milder solution on that area...... When you come in for a retouch the chemical is applied only to the roots and protection is applied to the previous treated hair. I’ve been researching this process because I want to try this for my hair. What I’ve found is that the difference btwn a jerri curl is that the Gina curl is a one time thio chemical processing as opposed to two step thio processing (creme plus liquid rearranger). Gina assures her clients that she has done extensive research and experience to come up with her method. There are no black stylists (that I could find) that have perfected the curly perm process to make it as minimally damaging as can be considering it is a chemical process or offer this service exclusively. I’ve looked all over UA-cam, IG, and can’t find a black stylist that shows application of the perm on virgin hair and then an update with their clients coming back with positive results. Gina’s clients hair look beautiful and they show them coming back with tons of new growth and length retention. People in the comments are hating hard but she’s doing something right and she’s in a market alone. You really can’t knock her hustle.

    Gina,
It’s been a little over 2 weeks since I got my Gina Curl and I am still in LOVE! I wanted to tell you all the things I noticed. Feel free to share it if you like all I ask is that you leave my name off. Also, what do you think about a private Facebook group for all of your Gina Curl clients. It could be great support for Gina Curl newbies (just a thought). On Instagram one of your clients shared Cantu Curling Cream with me and that has me totally on the right track.
    1. My hair is SO soft
    2. Detangling is ridiculously easy
    3. Hair sheds normally but it seems to shed so much less since I got my Gina Curl. I know I am losing much less hair than my old wash days.
    4. No more whole days dedicated to doing my hair
    5. I look forward to wash days now.
    6. I use so much less product
    7. I can scrunch it a lot for a lot of volume or a little for more of a wavy look.
    8. My husband loves it! He fully supported my natural hair journey before but he loves how soft it is. I actually let him touch it now with no fear of him messing it up. After all the work I was putting in before; him playing in my hair was a no go. He loves that I hardly wear ponytails anymore. I was for forever stuck in some sort of ponytail when my hair didn’t turn out the way I wanted it to. And for ease when I just didn’t want to deal with my hair; as a result my hair on my edges was not growing as fast as the rest of my hair.
    9. No more twists for bed at night. Yay!
    10. Unexpectedly, I spend so much less time on my hair daily and I have so much more free time. Now granted you can put as much or as little time into your hair as you would like. I was doing way more than I wanted for inconsistent results.
    11. My hair looks good EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
    12. I didn’t realize I habitually watched UA-cam videos looking for best way to achieve the results I wanted. The best product combos for the best results. Now, I watch them because I just like watching them not because I have a hair issue I want to resolve.
    13. Gina is so respectful and knowledgeable. Her team was so welcoming. And that’s from someone who takes a while to warm up to people.
This has been so freeing/lifestyle changing for me. You have no idea. Before I got my Gina Curl I thought that new clients that had just gotten theirs were carrying on a bit too much in these videos (LOL). It can’t be all that. I am so glad I got over that skepticism and what I perceived to be a negative that people were saying (it’s just a Jheri curl and are we doing that again?). Now having my Gina Curl and I don’t care what you call it. I LOVE IT! We drove almost 11 hrs to get it and it was worth every penny. I only wish that I had done it sooner. I would do it all over again and recommend it to anyone.
    Thank you Gina!

I’m obsessed with the Gina curl and I really want to get one. I don’t care that Gina is not black. I get very frustrated with some black woman where they will complain about not being included of thought when beauty products or trends are happening and then someone does and they still complain. We all don’t need to be the same with our hair. Natural, relaxed, wigs, weaves, curly perms. These are OPTIONS for us! I want to have the benefits of manageable hair but still have a texture closer to mine. I basically look at the Gina curl as a way for me to have stretched natural hair but I can be as close to a minimalist with the type 4 hair I have. It also seems like it is the least damaging compared to other chemical treatments. The Gina curl looks like what my hair would be like if I did a braid out with the constant manipulation of my hair. Plus I don’t have to think about rain or humidity. She is training other people to do her technique so in time I believe there will be more salons offering these services closer to home. Plus if I want my hair straight sometimes I can just do a roller set which is safer and what I like because pin straight hair make my head look big. I think a lot of black women aren’t honest and think struggling with their hair is some kind of badge of honor of being a black woman. No thank you. If I can wear a wig that looks like that why not have it will my real hair and enjoy it more with less struggle, time and stress.

Wave Nouveau, Jheri curl, and The Gina curl all use the chemical thioglycolate cream to straighten and softens hair. I wouldn't try this if I had a 6 inches of new growth. That chemical doesn't mix with relaxers. If the stylist gets the thioglycolate on your relaxed hair it will break off. Some people suffer breakage switching between lye and no lye relaxers. Lye relaxers uses sodium hydroxide and no-lye relaxers, uses calcium hydroxide. The pH level in lye relaxers is approximately 12-14 and no lye 9-11. Your hair should typically have a pH of around 4-5. The pH of thioglycolate aka wave nouveau or gina curl is typically around 10 which does make it less harsher on your. I am not a hair stylist or chemists this is just research I found on these chemicals. Do not take my word for please research this for yourself before doing this.

I see a lot of upset people but honestly I don’t think it’s that deep. I know my type 4 hair is beautiful- it is also quite labor intensive and after almost 25 years, I’m ready to invest my money in my hair *differently* so that I can invest my *time* elsewhere. I wash my hair weekly (biweekly in winter) because that’s what it likes. The amount of time it takes to detangle, wash, condition, detangle again, and style means that quite often, I have no time to do other things (my hair is @ bra strap). My last wash day was more than 6 hours. I’m tired of wash DAY. Why is that equal to me thinking my hair isn’t beautiful? I love my coils, their audacious volume and the diversity of styles I can achieve. I just need for it to not take so long to care for my hair. The cost isn’t a deterrent if I consider the salon x year or a couple good wig units/clip ins or braids. At this point, I’ve done enough with my hair to know it’s not “self-hate” to make a decision for ease. And if YOUR hair isn’t a whole day event then that’s great but we not all living that life.

Let me set the record straight here as someone who has had both a Jheri Curl in the 80s and now has a Gina Curl...THIS IS NOT A JHERI CURL. I would never have gone 10 months without a retouch with a jheri curl like I have been able to do with my Gina curl. In fact, my hair is much healthier and a lot atronger than when I had a Jheri Curl. I have 4C kinky curly hair and I did two years worth of research and emailing Gina before I went to HairsTalent. Also, let me say this, race has nothing to do with someone's professional knowledge and skill..talent is talent. That's like saying people from other races shouldn't sing R & B songs and shouldn't get paid as much as they do for their talent... ridiculous right? Time to evolve people! Personally, I don't care what race Gina is, she is an absolute genius when it comes to her Gina Curl and Black hair. She is so skilled and knowledgeable about her craft, and I like the fact that she is more about hair care than a hair style. Let me impart some facts.
I got my first Gina Curl 10 months ago and I'm leaving in 72 hours to go back for a retouch...traveling about 3,000 miles to get to Connecticut. Honestly, I'd travel to Timbukto if that's where her shop was - she is hands down the best and most qualified person to do my hair. In 10 months, my new growth is stronger today than when I first went to Gina as a 100℅ naturalista. The cost...why is that even an issue? People pay for what they value... in a democratic society where we all have choices, I choose to go to Gina and get my hair done. Sure, there are other products just as there are other hair stylists. But there is a reason why there are vast differences between the quality of what you buy at Neiman Marcus and the quality of what you buy Wal-Mart... I choose not to go the Wal-Mart route for my hair care because its too important to me! But don't get mad because Gina has pretty much cornered the market on her Gina Curl, and rightfully so - this is America after all, the beacon of capitalism! With my Gina Curl, I love the versatility, manageability, and the fact that I use less product than I ever did with a Jheri curl and have healthier, longer, and softer hair than I did with a Gheri curl - I never could have gone10 months without a retouch with a Jheri Curl! So if you don't like the price then simply don't get a Gina Curl.
Lastly, I am compelled to say that I think it's irresponsible of the owners of this vlog to put this video out without ever having had a Gina Curl or without interviewing someone who actually has a Gina curl to give you and the viewers a more informed and more factual point-of-view, especially on the pros and con's, along with insights from their Gina Curl experience. For example, for me, the travel to CT to get my Gina Curl is not a con, and neither is the price. If I average out the cost of a Gina Curl over the 10 months I've gone without a retouch of my Gina curl, it averages out to my monthly coffee payments at 4Bucks coffee shop...so now I just drink tea at home and save that money for my Gina Curl. To me it's worth it because I gained back five hours a week from not having to fight to detangle my natural hair after washing it. And I now have soft, manageable curls that get me out the door on 5-7 minutes with almost no hair strands in my comb. With a few sprays of water and an optional hair product, I am out the door, for 10 months straight. My Gina Curl is a no brainer! Hands down, the Gina Curl is one of the best decisions I have ever made. Even as she gets ready to train others to learn how to do a Gina Curl, I will still go to Gina until she retires. 'Nuf said.

Con#1 Wont be there long. Gina is training stylists to do the Gina curl.
Con#2 is a con, it does take time, but it's worth it. The difference is I dont have to go back every 2 months to get my hair done. When I was relaxed, I sat under the dryer for like 2 hours, making my relaxed day not that different. Plus I work out every day, and my perm fell out, because my relaxed hair did not like me to sweat.
Con#3. You can do all kinds of fun styles to your Gina curled hair. Excess heat will hurt your hair no matter what you do to it, but I braid my hair and did different protective styles all the time.
Con#4 if you add up the money you pay for your annual hair care, the Gina curl is probably less expensive in the long run, making it worth it. Plus your willingness to wear your own hair, and the ability to go on vacations without worrying about swimming, or other things messing up your hair makes it so much better.
No, you can not put a Gina curl on relaxed hair, you have to grow your hair out. I absolutely LOVE my Gina curl, and I'm so happy that I made the decision to get it done. 🥰🥰🥰

I’m natural but I looked into this a little there not a lot of information about it especially the effect long terms. I think this perm is basically the Japanese curly perm / Korean magic curls that she altered for tightly curly Afro hair. The process is similar because both processes takes a long time, cost a lot and involves washing the hair twice. There a option of having straight or curly as the end result.

Exactly this is the Japanese curly perm. When we lived in Japan my mom would get this done and her hair grew almost to her waist. She is rebranding that concept in the US and overpricing. By the way we are black, so my black mom was getting this Gina Curl= Japanese thermo straightener in the 70s/80s. Lol 😂

Hi guys, the GinaCurl is the JheriCurl w/ the exception of using conditioner instead JheriCurl activator. The problem with this is the stylist could easily overlap the straightening solution for any odd reason. Next there's no way to stop the overlapping of the the Perm solution when you reset the Perm rods. Ultimately you end up w/ over processed hair. I could be wrong but having done the JheriCurl before I think it's unavoidable! As for growth the video I watch the girl started off w/ very long hair high shrinkage. The JheriCurl introduce the baggy method w/ constant moisturizer at night so... that will lead to more growth.

You mentioned the money is a lot but you also may need to calculate how much it takes to do a salon relaxer and how often it's done. The Gina Curl is done like twice and in some instances once per year... maybe three times a year the most. I haven't seen anyone yet who does it three times a year. Just something for you to maybe consider. I've not put a relaxer in my hair for 10 years but I can't manage this anymore. I can't wear my hair out though I so desperately want to. I'm always in braids and I can't be wearing braids forever. I like to run a comb through my hair. The Gina Curl is attractive to me and seems like it would work for me but as you said, the fact that she's the only one who does it would put me on a waiting list. It certainly would make sense for her to share her technique, especially now with this global pandemic. I don't want to be travelling to Connecticut. For those results including low maintenance, I could sacrifice a whole day to get my hair done once or twice a year. I just don't want to be on a plane right now... period. A whole lot of money but... something's gotta give... I guess.

Yes, it appears to be very similar to the Jheri curl but another method. From my observation black women get attacked for just about every hairstyle they attempt, enough. If they choose to relax, do Jheri or Gina curl, go natural, do braids, wear wigs or weaves stress seems to be placed on black women; women are harsh on other women I notice way more than they often realize. Personally, I prefer no chemicals at all in my hair and also prefer homemade natural hair products, but I know this is not going to work for some women. I often attach a ponytail or wear a braid with pulled back hair. It seems there isn't much to say around wearing a ponytail attachment from time to time, perhaps we can also thank Jo Lo for that since she wears her hair in an abundance of ponytail extensions.

If the lady wants to make money off of black people at least make it affordable and STOP acting like this is a miracle product.. $500 really. Sorry but going from natural to a $500 chemical doesn't sound good to me in my OPINION.

It’s not much of a difference as people claim. The propaganda.

Ok..._No way would I pay $500+ to have this done. And spend an entire day in the salon? NO NO NO...OMG NO! 😂😂 I’m sorry but that gives me anxiety just thinking about that much time stuck in a salon chair. I am so much like you guys in I am not spending a bazillion hours on my hair. I love doing my hair, seeing the results, etc. There is a limit though...life is too short 🤗 That being said, if someone is doing it, enjoying it...then we should be happy for them. This woman’s ethnicity should not be an issue. Hell there are tons of hair products out there by Blacks that suck....don’t work. I mean it used to be that hair products by Blacks for Blacks was for ONE kind of hair but that’s probably for another video. LOL!! 💇🏽‍♀️ Great video!! ...I’m always waiting and happy when there’s another TWOLALA video!!. 🙌🏽🧡🧡

TwoLaLa LOL! Me too. I actually went looking for more videos I was curious. 😂. I’m sorry but I am underwhelmed ladies. I’m not changing what I said about people’s right to do as they want of course, but there are a lot of do’s & don’ts with this process. It doesn’t seem so effortless to me. I’d love to get your opinion after any follow-up you might do. You’re always so fair!

I did the big chop to embrace my natural hair not to soften it up ...black woman learn to manage your hair ...the real ones that grows out of your scalp ....we are regressing back to gheri curls

some people have very rough natural hair, so if they can get any help I'm all for it. I'm just keeping it real I've seen people keep protected styles and braids cuz they cant comb their hair. I know a woman who says her hair is hard as a brick.

@@karensmith5923 mixed hair tangles up and is hard to control at time ...caucasian hair gets oily and and limp ...but every race deals with whatever challenges that comes with there hair types ...yes ours may be more challenging but we have to teach our children how to manage and embrace our natural hair

It grows because of the moisture retention, just like a jheri curl / curly perm

It's interesting how people be quick to criticize them about how pricey it is but know darn well these wigs out here & weaves be in the same price range.. Even broke people will spend their $$ on certain things if that's what they want. People are hating also calling it the Jheri curl lol if it was that then we'd still be walking around looking a mess so bye- I'm not buying it. Plus Gina better patent her idea before she gives it away lol.. That's what Madam CJ Walker did w/ her products and her family still poop dollar signs

When I was 11, I got a Jheri curl and it changed my hair texture from 3a to about a 4b, but it also made my hair thicken and grow. However, I have been chemical free for 10 years and no intentions of changing.

950 is way too much money, cheaper to buy a curly wig tbh, but if people have the money for it then do you boo. As far as growth goes coiled hair is far more prone to breakage and single strand knots, i know this far too well. Looser hair patterns don't have that issue as much so it is easier to retain length. My hair grew so much faster when i kept it relaxed compared to now in its natural state.

Amen, I agree with u about hair growing faster with a relaxer. I have had long natural but it's too much for me to handle so I relax mine. I've been going to the same hairdresser in Queens to relax my hair for 30 years never had a problem

WE MUST REALIZE WHEN YOU GET A PROFESSIONAL STYLIST THEY ARE ALREADY PLANNING YOUR RETURN 👀... Like where's my $$$! If you are inconsistent you will see a change in service and, attitude. 💀
