It seems like I have been talking to you for FOREVER about the next step in my 4c natural hair journey, and here it is! Today is the day that I finally get my very first GinaCurl!!! I have to say, I was pretty nervous but so excited! Want to see the results?? Check out this video!
I'll also take you through a review of the process step by step, leaving absolutely nothing out. So come with me to the salon (Hair's Talent) to get my hair done!

The things you learn on UA-cam...I never heard of the Gina Curl!
@Mel Brown - Then if it’s just a Jheri curl, then black stylists should start doing them again to capture those coins.
@Mel Brown - Well, stylists who do Jheri curls can certainly charge $75 per hour and recapture that market. If Gina is charging $600 for 8 hours = $75 an hour. If a Jheri curl takes 4 hour then $75 X 4 = $300. I’d rather pay $300 for 4 hours than $600 to spend 8 hrs getting a Gina curl - especially if it’s the same chemicals. And no matter how much other races specialize in black hair, I buy black as much as possible.

@Mel Brown i have one.... it's totally different. Someone offered to do a jheri curl for me for free....but i said no. I went to her. It looks very natural dry....no lie.
It's a Jeri curl. My mom did say everything comes back.

@@MiracleLSmith-bg4mi Its just a Jheri curl named after a white man who owned Jhirmack products in the 70's. He stole the idea from a black man name Willie Morrow. Thats why ppl call it a Jeri (Jeri Curl) which is nothing but a permanent wave with 1 extra step, softening the natural curls so it can be rearranged into its new shape. Nothing new.

No one that's gotten a GINACURL, has gotten damage specifically from this product. But ask all your questions to Ms Gina at @Hairstalent she'll gladly answer all your inquiries. ☺️
@@applebomb8924 Thank you for your response. I have seen videos of Ms. Gina talking about her product and her procedure. I have also seen a video of one poor woman who flew from France to Gina's shop to get a Gina Curl. Her hair has fallen out and broken off tremendously. She looks pretty bad...
Talking to Gina is not going to help me, at all. It is Gina's job to sell herself and her product. It is her job to reassure people that their money is safe with her. That's what business people do.
I've seen enough. I will not be getting this done to my hair. I want to ensure that my near waist length tresses actually make it down to my waist over the next 18 months.

That's a jherri curls started back in 78/79. Gina is bringing back the curl but for all the new ppl be care of the oil and curl activator
3 hours for chemical process... And few minutes for neutralizer. That is some scary process.
I love it. I really love it. But this is a Wave Nouveau!!! My mother did this process on so many customers in her shop for years ....for a fraction of the price😳. I loved it then and I love it now....but this is nothing new. Looks so beautiful.
This is not a WN I also had one. It's different. I am on #3 and it's just different.
You can still get wn
Wave Nouveau has a curling solution before the neutralizer and you don't have to be under the dryer for three hours, there is probably a fifteen minutes hold time after the curling and neutralizer process. Hairdresser should shampoo and condition hair so you don't have to unless your hair get unusually dirty.
Gina sounds like Jheri. It looks great though. Your joy about this process is contagious! 🙂 Everyone should be happy with how their hair looks and feels.

Glad you enjoyed CT. I USED TO GO TO HAIRSTALENT when I was young because fenny now retired knew how to work with natural curly hair. I am happy to be natural and am not interested in chemically altering my hair(lol my curl pattern looks like a Gina curl 😃)but I am glad you are happy with your experience and visit to our state.

@@victoriarainey-hires2765 I used to think that too but actually the gina curl application is more geared toward keeping the integrity of the hair. I've had a wave nouveau done twice and my hair started to shed like crazy and it became very thin. I would not do that again. I want something that allows me to keep my density and grow my hair long.

It looks awesome! I’ve had 2 Gina curls in dire need of a touch up but my appointment is 4/15/21 😳. Meaning my retouch was almost a year ago then Covid hit. The fortunate thing is I’m still able to maintain my hair with all this new growth. I mean no more 20 minute wash days but I can do my hair in an hour cuz this new growth is crazy!

@@Napsagain09 Back again, lol, pls do a video! Can you explain the retouch process? Is any of the older hair reprocessed? I'm concerned about overlap and that weakening hair overtime. I've heard ppl and even Gina say conflicting things about retouching the older lengths of the hair.

You might get sued if you market your styling process as a GinaCurl, unless it's something SHE specifically trained you to do. Gina's youtube channel has plenty of information on the learning process.

Way back in the late 80s early 90s my sister got a Leisure Curl and I got a Ferm by Avlon. Both gave the ’look of a relaxer, with the maintenance of a curl’. They were both great, at the time. The look was exactly like this. People actually thought I had a weave, they just couldn't believe it was my own hair. Ferm is no longer available to my knowledge. My point is, both then and with this Gina Curl, it's chemical manipulation of your natural curl pattern. It's the 'acceptable’ curl. It's your hair, and you do you, but in my opinion, it's just more of the same junk being pushed for type 4 hair, just rebranded and repackaged for 2021. 😒
Yesss!!!! I'm so glad I'm not the only one that like huh? This is pretty much just replaced regular old relaxers that straighten your hair to look white to this thing. That STILL straightens your hair to look white... Except how you get to claim a half white half black mixed girl look but the intent is still the same. Shame shit, different era. Still sad.

Just an FYI..
You can achieve this same look and retain volume with a texlax, a good leave in conditioner (preferably 6n1 moisturizing lotion)and some hair scrunching. The leave in conditioner will help your hair stay moisturized and keep your hair healthy. And... you will still be able to use a protein treatment bimonthly.
No and do not spread false information bc it is not the same thing or same process and you can easily damage your hair by over processing
Unfortunately no moisturizer or deep conditioner can change your hair type. Your hair will simply be moisturized. It’s also unfortunate for one to spend this type of money just because they don’t like their natural hair

Because it’s not a Jheri curl. The process is changed and the formula is different which is why the hair stays healthy instead of breaking w a Jheri curl

@@amandaday Don't intend to get too personal, but when you say you are not exactly unbiased, does that mean you are you getting some type of sponsorship from GC? Just wondering bc it seems that only a few ppl who get the GC's go on to continue to post videos and pics on social media. The fall off of posters makes me wonder about most ppl's long term results.
This is EXACTLY how my hair looked when I had a Carefree Curl. My hair was strong, healthy, and beautiful! Oooooo how I long to have that style again however, finding a stylist is the problem.

You guys may not be old enough but this Gina curl is nothing but the Dry Leisure Curl. A technique we used after we stop wearing the wet Jheri curl.. Omg

I have experience in All types of cold waves... Care free, Wave Nouveau... The Gina curl is no difference in the process process. I'm in Hampton Va

Thank so much for your kind words! 1) Typically, you get touch ups every 6 months. I think some people push it down to 5 though if they’re fiending lol 2) My understanding is that with a GinaCurl, during your touch ups they only process the new growth whereas with a curly perm, the already permed ends get chemical added to them over and over. 3) yes I have seen some do it with dyed hair! But based on what I’ve seen, results with that could be variable.
So for new growth do you find it hard to maintain the style, like are your roots your natural texture?

Hi Vaehina! Thanks for subscribing ❤️. Unfortunately you can not straighten your hair, at least not with heat. You can stretch it by doing a braid out or in other physical ways but direct heat (other than diffusing with a blow dryer) will permanently damage the curls.

Hi Amanda, if you read this I'm wondering if you have the Gina curl that can also be blow- dried, I love that one.
They say no direct heat! It can be diffused to dry the curls, but it shouldn't be straightened with heat :/

The hair does not straighten over time. My Gina curl ends curl right up as soon as it gets wet and I haven’t had a retouch in over a year...my roots crazy new growth but my ends are definitely curly.
Also update has to be done during like month 6-7 the hair is pretty much the same for 7 months by retouch time it gets a little less manageable but still easier than if your hair was fully natural
@@Napsagain09 interesting. I have actually found that my curls have changed quite a bit in 3 months. Perhaps because I’ve worn them up and pulled back so often. Gina did tell me that would stretch the curl faster, but I’ve had no choice

I got my Gina Curl two months ago. But I’m dealing with severe dryness. Please keep us updated on your progress. I bought the products they recommended but my hair is usually bone dry by the end of the day.😩

@@amandaday No breakage yet for me either! Thank god. Its just weird compared to how my old hair retained moisture for days.

@@eimmioh i’ve only had it for three months now. So. so far they have not straightened. But I would recommend if you want tight curls make sure to get the smallest perm rods. I accidentally got bigger ones than I wanted.
Old school days you didn’t wash your hair but maybe biweekly… mew school girls are washing daily, 3x a week, etc etc. is this what the stylist recommends to? Or is that just a habit left from natural hair care ? Seems like you’d over dry out curl or strip it if washed too much? Just curious about regimen
Our hair creates it's own curl with the right moisturizer.
Exactly but being natural doesn’t always work for everyone. Especially if they don’t like their actual hair texture

Thanks a ton! I did buy the products from the salon, including the Semi di Lino leave in. I still use all but the curling cream. I use Cantu coconut curling cream now.
You can repackage it how you want, it’s a Jheri curl. The Jheri curl was done the exact same way. Back in the day people just chose to spray all that juice in their hair 🤣 they didn’t have to.
Your hair is supper cute. Dont mind the hate (I get it on my page too lol).I will definitely be trying all pink rods when i go next time. I used gray and pink and i love it but i also love the tighter curls from your video!

Sorry for the late reply! It has a smell that last for maybe a week but it’s not a bad chemically smell at all to me. It smells like a conditioner. I actually really like it lol
Can I get the Gina Curl if parts of my hair is still relaxed?
You can’t GinaCurl hair that has been relaxed. You would have to cut those parts off unfortunately.

Was your results way longer than this before she cut it?
My hair was bra strap length when stretched before they cut it and I’d say honestly it was about 3 inches shorter than that after being cut. Hard to say how long it would have been in its dry curly state though. I never really saw it dry before it was cut.
Always sanitize after touching door handles if your a germ a phobe.
Not throwing shade. It's just alot of people forget about door handles n then touch their phones.
Hi Bonnie! It’s great advice. Don’t worry though... My door handle hand didn’t touch my phone lol and as soon as I got up the stairs I went to the bathroom and washed my hands. Haha I do this every day all day, girl. :)
@@amandaday I bout that key for the door handles so i don't have to touch them. All the virus needs is a second to enter your body and I don't want to take any chances of allowing it to even sit on my hands.
Can I get a Gina curl any where or do I have to go to her? What type of hair do you originally have?

Can you still use the same hair products as before or do you have to switch over to the products they sell ?
You don’t have to use their products. I bought them because it made things easier for me. But you can use regular products. There are just certain restrictions. For example, you can’t use any products with significant amounts of protein in them.
