Brook Trout fishing is pure American fishing. So often I would have oved to have seen our rivers the way they use to be full of giant brook trout and Atlantic Salmon.

Great vid. Beautiful Brookie shots. When he was talking about the difference between Caddis and Mayfly “takes”. He said “ Mayflies hatch and take off quicker so trout hit them harder compared to Caddis where they tend to stick around and stay on the water longer”. I always thought it was the opposite! Lol But, this could very well be the case for fishing lakes.

ALL fishing is good, but there is something about trout fishing... Even if there is no CATCHING, it is still special, often if only because of the amazing places we typically fish for trout. My personal best brookie day was two guys catching and releasing over 100 small brook trout in a single day fishing the spawn in a small stream in Colorado, but a single cutthroat at the base of Grand Teton was a pretty special trout too.
But I’ve had equally good days catching bream, bass, catfish, crappie near home.
Truth is, fishing is always good, and catching is always a little better. If you like fishing and beautiful places you might want to add trout fishing to your bucket list.
Nice bluegill in your photo, BTW.😁

Good video up to the point where Tom says, "Top Secret Fly I'm not gonna tell you about". I had a similar experience at a remote pond in Maine where I asked a guy what fly he was using and his reply was, "a brown one". I always share my knowledge and keep nothing secret from any other anger. I want to promote the sport and keep people interested in it to the point that I give away flies, hoping the anger I gave a fly to will have some luck. IMHO that's an amateur move and not the way we should educate and help our fellow anglers.

GREAT point. As much as we agree with you, and practice the same mojo of education and willingness to give fellow anglers information on what is working for us in the field, we do honor outfitters and guide's requests to keep local patterns a secret - when asked.

Justify it however you like. Shame on those guides and outfitters. God only knows, if that pattern gets out, there won't be a single brook trout to be had!😂

I love the New Flyfisher but can't understand why a barbed hook is used when the intent is to release the fish as around 4:13 in the video. I use barbed hooks when I plan to kill a fish to eat but not when I go to catch and release simply for my pleasure. Your editing and/or policies and practices need to get withit. The fish at 10:06 was out of the water until 10:30. not a good practice, Yah, Yah the water was 44F. At 24:58 there was a good release with limited air exposure, why not all the time? At 11:23 to 11:40 Tom struggles to get his "secret fly" out of the fish... just bend the barbs down. I can't believe the lodge doesn't make this a policy. I hope I don't have to provide more constructive criticism on future shows. All the best,Tight lines.

Hi Soulo Boater, Thanks for bringing this up. You're correct in you statements on barbed hooks and we, as a production have decided that we will be fishing barbless for this upcoming season. Appreciate your feedback. Good Fishing!

@@newflyfisher Bravo and congrats! Your great show will now act as a leader in fish conservation by reducing fish injury and post release mortality and help to spread the word and change the culture. Thankyou!
