To be honest it seems like she is a good actress. Good at emoting and expressing but not intellectual enough for this conversation to be able to match Aronofsky's thoughts she looks like she feels off and probably insecure that way. Also they do not seem to have the best in sync relationship the way some actor director duos have but overall they are both good at their jobs.
This was a horribly abusive relationship, horrendous how he treated her. That she didn’t know how to leave. I feel so bad she had to go through this, as many women do 💔♥️
I saw this movie as an ode to "being a woman". Which, in a terrible way, shines light on how hard this was for Jennifer Lawrence to make at the hands of Darren Aronofsky. He somehow managed to capture the plight of being a woman, while also pushing his lead actress to the point where she physically injured herself. Jennifer Lawrence did the most amazing acting in this movie I've seen out of any movie in a while. To be a woman in society is to build something so cherished and loved (the house as symbolism in the movie) and to have a (well meaning) partner allow people in to rip it down. I LOVE that in this move they made the husband so caring and well-meaning, while also making him aloof and slightly unsettling. I am sure a lot of people have wonderful partners, but this is such a beautiful depiction of what it is like being a "sitting duck". You think your life is fulfilled and then people are wanting more, and more, and more. And how could a man understand? The theme of the "man of the house" opening up the home while the wife (who actually tends to the home) is flabbergasted by this intrusion, is so prevalent. She is the one making sure no one sits on the sink, she's the one noticing the blood on the floorboards. The husbands means well, he just has no attention to detail or anything that the wife holds sacred (her baby). The stare-down at the end gave me chills. He was meant to be so loving, so caring, and at the end all he cared about was putting what his wife created on display (as an extension of him). I'm not a "I hate all men" feminist, but I DO think this piece of art points to how many men are complicit in the display of women and what they think it means to "be a woman". They love their partners, but disregard any true fear they have and think everything can be "fixed". And notice, in the movie, he always says "you don't need to do that", in regards to her cleaning up, but never comes up with a solution to who will. I think this movie can also speak to the male experience, of feeling they need to be "bigger than they are" in the sense of fame and putting out things that will keep them in power and I LOVE the fact that the husband is the one trying to "nurture" random people (which is a societal female quality). He is in the balance of being powerful by showcasing his writing and being nurturing by letting people into his home for whatever reason (ex: he is dying, their son died let's let them have a memorial, they just want to see our son, etc). He has no idea how much the people outside his bedroom door idolize him....or does he? I could literally write an essay on this movie, but here I am, drunk, at 3 in the morning and fuck Darren Aronofsky for EVER making her uncomfortable.

He is very odd, he gives me cult leader underhand guy vibes who likes to have a slightly naive pretty face to carry out and live out all his sadistic pleasure and whims in the name of acting and production. she talks like she feels like a victim who is under instruction to not say and her whole demeanour screams I'm not comfortable with what i have had to go through for this movie and what it has took out of me. lile there is more underlying sinister reasons like she had to do too much against her will and for the sake of peer pressure than she was happy to do. its all the more creepy that she is actually dating him. less to do with age more to do with the guy himself. even if he is a director.
Have you noticed her nose? Look how completely different it is, she has definitly had a lot of work done since passengers and in between that movie and this one. She also got a lot of public backlash for the antics she was doing with Amy Schumer and her public statements about wage...A lot of directors didn't want to work with her after that and her movie Passenger bombed, they lost 20 million dollars. I think she needs to take a break, and reinvent herself and get inspired right now. Emma Stone is killing it right now, and Jennifer seems to have lost her spark.
charli churchill she just seems more grown up, I used to be irritated by her bc she'd always talk about how regular and normal she is, a lot of tell and not show. But she really matured
Steven Still - why are you commenting about her nose everywhere lol? it's irrelevant. so what if she go a nose job. it's her life and her decision. also, Passengers didn't lose 20 million lol. I think you should take a break and actually do research.

To me, the movie was about a narcissist and an empath, she restored his life. He benefits from her love and devotion and then allows the world to destroy everything she built for him. He allows her to be ravaged and her only child to be torn in pieces. As she lay dying, she confesses there is still love for him in her beating heart, so he rips it out of her as a trophy. A narcissist only craves love, adoration, and praise they have nothing to give back.
@@gingechicken7394 It can change whether you get to show the world your talents and get paid for it. There are tons of wonderful actors out there. No respect for her getting her fame that way.
Is it also a metaphor that Darren Aronofsky romanticizes his experience as an artist by likening himself to God and then pillages Jennifer Lawrence to the point of physical tearing to answer for his art? And then she dates him? Cmon Jennifer, you're smarter than that, he is using you.
This movie was a modern day Rosemary's baby, that I throughly enjoyed. It made me very emotional with some of the characters. Wow, I was yelling at the people in this movie.
all these comments here prove why this movie is so important and spot on. Do you seriously came here to comment on Lawrence's nose job or her relationship with Arronofsky when they discuss issues like climate change, feminism, etc? I am appaled by how superficial the world has become. I, for one, feel that for the first time Lawrence talks abour her art and the meaning of her movie instead of acting like a clown.
I have never had a movie leave me feeling shook the way this one did. I can't even say that I liked it, I'm not sure if I did or not, but it had me hooked and I'll never forget how it made me feel. I really feel like this was a master peice. every single person I know who watched it, left feeling shook like myself. I can see how people might not like it, but I dont think anyone will forget it.
watched it and I can't get those 2 hours back now, that's my reaction Darren, Darrell, whateveryournameis.. and I'm sharing it with my friends and even strangers.
I will never watch it again because when the passed the baby in the air it felt real. And the whole meaning of the movie was her husband eats his wifes hearts
I came to find out more about the movie and I'm very confused by the title which has nothing to do with the interview and even more confused with the comment section. I mean who cares if they are dating and whether or not they're happy? Their personal happiness isn't what's important here, is it? I mean we want to see these people because of the art they create and their personal lifes aren't important for that. Your own emotions and experiences are what makes the movies you watch fun....
I showed my Christian mother this film and she was literally like "what is this film?????????" like she wouldn't stop talking about it for two days. This film was soooo traumatizing.
Either Darren Aronofsky is emotionally dead inside,or it takes a heroic amount of concentration and will to not Crack up every time Jennifer Lawrence speaks....
I fucking stopped breathing for as sec and ended up feeling empty after the movie without being able to speak as I normally do. I think it was a reaction
This movie is one of the most significant and weird movies I've ever seen. Feminism environment concern biblical without making it cheesy which is so difficult. Please see it you won't be disappointed.
does anyone else think that Jennifer is a whole other person when she's around Daron? like she feels the need to have to tame her wild spirit and impress him with big words and stuff. I feel like she's not being herself because he makes her feel like she's lesser than him or something.
I thought saw the fame allegory more than anything else. The idea that the person you love, the actor/actress, starts belonging to other people-something that generally does not happen to 'your average couple'.
I think it's funny that she said that the movie is feminist because as somebody who often finds myself on the opposite side of modern feminism, I very quickly realized how profoundly feminist this movie really is. Not in a pandering way but in an unflinchingly honest way. I learned a lot from this movie. It is showing feminism(as in what it means to be a female) in its purest form and how it is manipulated and taken advantage of Ed in many ways shows why modern feminism is bastardized as it has become in some respects was completely necessary and inevitable due to men's arrogance and apathy. At the same time it also shows how women can and will trample other women when given the chance. This movie is profoundly deep and has genuinely changed the way I see numerous aspects of existence. I also find it very disturbing and how the director who is the one who created this groundbreaking vision is doing the same thing to Jennifer Lawrence the husband did to her in the movie in this interview. I guess saying something about life imitating art would be fitting.
Everyone misunderstanding the two references of Jane Ayre and The Wide Sargosso Sea, I'll summarize their connection and why Jennifer is correct in the premise of men draining the strength of women: Jane Ayre tells a story told by Mr. Rutherford about his "crazy" first wife Bertha, how he never loved her and why he was justified to lock her in a tower for ten years. The Wide Sargosso Sea tells the story through Bertha's, actually Antoinette, perspective that she was just like Jane but more fierce and less stable, and Mr. Rutherford indeed did squelch her spirit, tame the shrew with force, until she went mad. Jane Ayre doesn't tell this whole story but Wide Sargosso Sea does and they're connected.
Everyone talking about her nose, I do not see much difference but losing weight can change a person's face and also her age could have caused difference . Also, the fact that she is not smiling as much can change how she looks as well. But even if she did it would suck because she looks good just the way she is.
"that's one way to look at fame, false idol ship". at about 4:06. Interesting comment, and I agree. Mother! is an amazing movie that has wrongly been interpreted as an attack on Christianity. The only christian people that should be upset is a Valentinian gnostic christian living in the 2nd century AD (that belief system being almost unrecognizable to traditional Christianity), because Gnosticism's interpretation of creation is the only religious imagery that completely fits, even the "baby" scene, as some gnostic followers were accused of doing to babies well what happened to the baby in the movie. Although no one knows if they actually did. The baby as Catholic Eucharist doesn't fit, Jesus obviously wasn't a baby when He chose to sacrifice himself, that was the point literally offering His body freely of His own will as sacrifice for believers redemption. Babies can't choose, can they.
Gotta love how they're talking about making a feminist film where an aspect is an idyllic life with seemingly loving husband, who slowly takes away her dignity and autonomy... and then the genius director completely bowls over Jen's obvious distress and boundary setting without ever validating or acknowledging her experience or the harm he, as her director, put her in. This video belongs on r/whoosh
He is literally like the author in the movie, and i feel like she literally feot into the character in a way to love, understand and be the character and started to hate men or certain type of men
All the people commenting on their age difference are just disgusting. If you are truly supportive of Jennifer everything you should care about is her happiness. How the hell is it any of your business how old he is? She chose him and that's it.
I immediately thought the same thing...shes had something done to her Nose, it's very obvious if you look at how her nostrils are taken in. She had a more natural look before, I don't think she needed it but shes still very pretty.
Are you an actor? I don't think so. All actors should be able to perform. Snapping out of the role has nothing to do with her ability, in fact, it just shows her deep connection and understanding of the character.
im in the middle of watching it rn and was so like ‘wtf is happening’ but im happy im watching this cuz my eyes are opened lol its pretty good the bit i am on now
If people just perceive it as a movie about fame, then they really didn't see the whole movie. I mean fame is just one aspect of it. The movie then evolves into something totally different.
wow the comments are so disappointing, no one is talking about the movie. just the "awkwardness of the interview" or "how can they be dating?". This says a lot, it confirms what the movie is trying to show.
...merely explaining something so much, so into the ground, as so many people feel compelled to do, especially with reference to film, doesn't actually give credence to the experience of deliberately ambiguous cinema...humans have a distinct tendency or need to feel closure, to explain something laced with faint uncertainty, painting themselves into a corner.
Jeez how does an actor prepare and conceptualize their character when the role they are playing is an allegory for God itself. Crazy to think about as a crappy amateur actor myself.
So she is saying that the movie is pro-feminist meanwhile she five minutes later says that it was complete and total emotional manipulation and she was a victim? She is definitely a feminist. Because she falsely accuses people of things and lies
I see all these comments about J. Law being sad which may be true because I’ve seen the movie and boy oh boy it’s deep dark and all kinds of crazy and you know it was very intense filming that and to go back to those intense memories can be a little sad so yeah. She’s not that sad it’s just that she’s an adult and she knows how to act in certain situations...
She laughed after saying she won’t work with him again, but you can tell she meant that shit

AvgJane19 I don't think maturing means having to lose all the fun aspects of your personality
Steven Still - why are you commenting about her nose everywhere lol? it's irrelevant. so what if she go a nose job. it's her life and her decision. also, Passengers didn't lose 20 million lol. I think you should take a break and actually do research.
Wow... her body language is so different from her passengers interviews. Maybe because the movie is dark.
TheRachag She's dating the director so maybe that has to do with it a bit too?

It sounds like this movie drained her...she seems very tired...she may have been pushed to her breaking point, Which is a shame
Or that she has to turn to her husband because he's sitting on the right, in order to listen to him?? why are liberals so fucking weird
Mr KK He’s actually her boyfriend
Greatest movie I ve seen in a long time. Aaron, Jennifer, & Havier are phenomenal cast & crew.
Javier...
Amazing
That’s exactly what I got out of it. Interesting to hear this Mother Nature take🤔
Love this kid. Her parents did a great job raising her. She has her head on straight and knows the deal.
The "deal" being "sleep with Harvey Weinstein and you have a shot in Hollywood"?
@@vladimirhorowitz she's a phenomenal actress. Sex can't change the quality of her acting.
@@gingechicken7394 It can change whether you get to show the world your talents and get paid for it. There are tons of wonderful actors out there. No respect for her getting her fame that way.
@@denisedoherty4909 she's still a phenomenal actress, I'd rather watch her high quality acting than shitty acting
Darren Aronofsky is like Christian bale playing Steve Jobs 😅
Honestly I loved the movie, the symbolism was everywhere and in my opinion those are the best movies, you leave thinking about it later.
I think their chairs need to be farther apart.
Nicole 😂😂😂
Nicole so true .. !
they dating
Hahaha ur level of sarcasm 👌😂😂
Haha. Seriously. It needs to get to the point where one or the other is out of frame.
My mind can't really differentiate between Darren Aronofsky and Steve Jobs.. lol
No I won't ever forget. In a bad way.Ive seen all of her movies this shouldn't have
This is horrible. I hope she recovered well from this traumatising movie.
"We always go a little too far, sometimes"
Jerrrrk
I know. I caught that too. What an idiot.
3:03 he was just possessed by Seth Rogan..
watched it and I can't get those 2 hours back now, that's my reaction Darren, Darrell, whateveryournameis.. and I'm sharing it with my friends and even strangers.
I kinda like how jlaw can be so serious at times
I knew she'd marry someone older, she's an old soul
This movie was fucking amazing
He's about as exciting as a piece of cardboard. Jennifer is always so cheerful, funny and beautiful. Such a lovely couple!
I will never watch it again because when the passed the baby in the air it felt real. And the whole meaning of the movie was her husband eats his wifes hearts
I like that her feet hit the floor sitting in the chair but his feet are resting on the middle bar like that of a small child. lol
Her feet only go to the middle bar too, her pants/dress is really long though and gives her the illusion of having longer legs
Its good to hear what the director was trying to convey
I came to find out more about the movie and I'm very confused by the title which has nothing to do with the interview and even more confused with the comment section. I mean who cares if they are dating and whether or not they're happy? Their personal happiness isn't what's important here, is it? I mean we want to see these people because of the art they create and their personal lifes aren't important for that. Your own emotions and experiences are what makes the movies you watch fun....
my thoughts precisely. Well, most of them, anyway.
Putting the art back in cinema
she's grown so much
Did anyone else think we were talking about a different diaphragm? 🙋🏻♀️
Lol cause extreme pressure from yelling or screaming can still apply😅
I fucking stopped breathing for as sec and ended up feeling empty after the movie without being able to speak as I normally do. I think it was a reaction
This movie is one of the most significant and weird movies I've ever seen. Feminism environment concern biblical without making it cheesy which is so difficult. Please see it you won't be disappointed.
What scene was it that she tore her diaphragm? There are a couple of scenes I could think of.
all of them
Probably when she gave birth
Giving birth
This movie i can't forget ... touched my emotion deepest
does anyone else think that Jennifer is a whole other person when she's around Daron? like she feels the need to have to tame her wild spirit and impress him with big words and stuff. I feel like she's not being herself because he makes her feel like she's lesser than him or something.
John Lennon+Christian Bale = Darren Aronofsky
+Steve jobs
I usually get speechless and shocked after watching his movies. He would hate to see me in the theater
I thought saw the fame allegory more than anything else. The idea that the person you love, the actor/actress, starts belonging to other people-something that generally does not happen to 'your average couple'.
starting with the Director, good artists ALL.. . working at a high level.
Wow she sounded so eloquent.
looking forward to this! I already saw Refn's The Neon Demon, which was made for the sole purpose, reaction.
Jennifer and her FINE self...♥️
I can see why they are together and what binds them but I can also feel like they're clashing most of their time together.
D- Darren! LOOK at her in awe of him! 😭
Everyone misunderstanding the two references of Jane Ayre and The Wide Sargosso Sea, I'll summarize their connection and why Jennifer is correct in the premise of men draining the strength of women:
Jane Ayre tells a story told by Mr.
Her name was Jane Eyre and his name was Mr. Rochester.
If someone who’s survived three collaborations with David O’Russell is telling you you went too far, then buddy - _you went too far_ .
He is a genius. Mother is a masterpiece!
Everyone talking about her nose, I do not see much difference but losing weight can change a person's face and also her age could have caused difference . Also, the fact that she is not smiling as much can change how she looks as well. But even if she did it would suck because she looks good just the way she is.
I want Darren's glasses. The lenses are so shiny and clean and uv reactive.
I didn't have to know what this video was about. The thumbnail was enough to make me want to watch it.
Shout out to BC!!! Cheers!
He is literally like the author in the movie, and i feel like she literally feot into the character in a way to love, understand and be the character and started to hate men or certain type of men
Saw this tonight...excellent movie
All the people commenting on their age difference are just disgusting. If you are truly supportive of Jennifer everything you should care about is her happiness.
How the hell is it any of your business how old he is?
She chose him and that's it.
freedom of speech
Ryan Voss
lately too many people have come to use "freedom of speech" as an excuse to be assholes
Charlottesville is a good example
oooh.. should I apologize to poor white nationalists for calling them assholes?
lol, what the hell are you on??
if you don't understand what I'm talking about you might be the one who is on smth
she looks really different . also all actors should snap in and out of characters. thats what actors should do
some actors don't. for example, Daniel Day-Lewis
She sounds different and more calm, but her relationship with this guy is creepy
Stephania cat how so??
I immediately thought the same thing...shes had something done to her Nose, it's very obvious if you look at how her nostrils are taken in. She had a more natural look before, I don't think she needed it but shes still very pretty.
Are you an actor? I don't think so. All actors should be able to perform. Snapping out of the role has nothing to do with her ability, in fact, it just shows her deep connection and understanding of the character.
I haven't watched it yet but the more negative reviews I hear the more I kinda wanna see it.
J. L' Ange
I didn’t like it the first time I watched it because I was expecting a horror film but after a 2nd viewing I appreciated it a little more.
im in the middle of watching it rn and was so like ‘wtf is happening’ but im happy im watching this cuz my eyes are opened lol its pretty good the bit i am on now
you can tell he takes her humor away :(
She is not a clown
Did the thought ever occur to you that she has a serious side too? It would be pretty sad if she was 100% clown.
Natalie Robertson that is more what I felt. She needs to be herself like she always is Young & Free
Maybe she’s just trying to sell the movie and humor isn’t gonna sell a twisted, violent film. There is a time and place for everything.
he fully broke her but I reckon it'll make her a better actress
If people just perceive it as a movie about fame, then they really didn't see the whole movie. I mean fame is just one aspect of it. The movie then evolves into something totally different.
wow the comments are so disappointing, no one is talking about the movie. just the "awkwardness of the interview" or "how can they be dating?". This says a lot, it confirms what the movie is trying to show.
...merely explaining something so much, so into the ground, as so many people feel compelled to do, especially with reference to film, doesn't actually give credence to the experience of deliberately ambiguous cinema...humans have a distinct tendency or need to feel closure, to explain something laced with faint uncertainty, painting themselves into a corner.
davidjhughes vvvv
She is soooo beautiful
movie was amazing congratulations
Jeez how does an actor prepare and conceptualize their character when the role they are playing is an allegory for God itself. Crazy to think about as a crappy amateur actor myself.
Mother! is wild. I just watched it. I'm shook😶
This movie is amazing.
I just realized this movie is about him and them.
Idk bout the dislikes but the movie is awesome!👏
She says all that about the way people react to famous people (like to her), but she is over the top when it comes to the kardashians.
So she is saying that the movie is pro-feminist meanwhile she five minutes later says that it was complete and total emotional manipulation and she was a victim?
She is definitely a feminist. Because she falsely accuses people of things and lies
I can't wait to see this
When an angry crowed eats your baby, you definitely would be stressed out of your mind
God I love her so much u can't understand
Why?
I see all these comments about J. Law being sad which may be true because I’ve seen the movie and boy oh boy it’s deep dark and all kinds of crazy and you know it was very intense filming that and to go back to those intense memories can be a little sad so yeah. She’s not that sad it’s just that she’s an adult and she knows how to act in certain situations...
Jlaw look so stress after this movie unlike all her previous interview
Jennifer Lawrence wasn't acting upset or angry or depressed or whatever else you people are saying
If they ever make a movie about darren aronofsky, they need christian bale to play hime because they look alike
She's so pretty and he's not attractive at all. She's such a great person and actress and not shallow or at all superficial.
Very CLEAR Biblical references in Mother. It is about the creation of Christianity and Mother Nature and God.
