I just finished watching "mother!" And honestly it was a masterpiece..the movie holds so many metaphor that you really need to understand to get what's going on in the movie....i really recommend it

I saw the movie Mother when it came out, and I'm going to be honest, I have no clue what it was supposed to be about. It was really confusing and it got to a point where I wasn't even sure what was supposed to be real and what was just in her head anymore.
It's a very obvious retelling of the Bible. Her husband is God who has already written one book (the Old Testament) and is now writing a second (the New Testament). The first couple that shows up are Adam (hence the bruised rib) and Eve (who angers God by touching something she was told not to), then their sons are Cain and Abel (hence the younger one killing the older one). Jennifer Lawrence is a mix of Mother Earth and the Virgin Mary, and the baby she gives birth to at the time the New Testament is written is Jesus.... That's not guesswork on my part: it was extremely obvious to most of the audience, and the director himself stated that the characters were metaphors for Bible stories in TV interviews he gave in the run-up to the movie being released.
