So important to showcase "failures" as much as successes. So many of us are bombarded by people being successful that we put so much pressure on ourselves and go into a sort of depression. This was great, I love that she's so candid about all of this, and I think many people can relate to this.

Yes! My friend is recently making it big in his profession. He actively says that you need to value the rejections as much as the wins, because if you base your credentials only around success then you probably aren't trying hard enough. Being rejected doesn't mean that people didn't admire your work: they still read/watched it, they still respected it, it's just that there's a sea and you're one fish in it. That's not a *bad* thing; that's progress. I really enjoyed his perspective, I found it enlightening.

And while YOU were wasting time on the wrong people, the right ones were being ignored. Talk to any retired athlete about how arrogantly they turned down offers they'd beg to have now. Same thing for washed-up never-weres in Hollywood. If they focused more on the craft and less on the business side they'd have an actual reason to do business.

skaterccchick yeah but most of the time we think we know what we want to do, and then when your half way into it, you realise it's not what you want. And it's stupid to ask 18 year old what they want to do because obviously we're all going to change our minds and sometimes we just don't know what we want to do. It's even harder when you don't have a lot of experience that's why it's good to dabble in different things, jobs, hobbies so that you find whatever it is you want to do.

I gave up on my dream of being an actress. I had been acting since I was 2 years old. I trained with a pretty famous acting coach, her sister is Morgan Fairchild, starting at age 9. I did a camp with an acting agency at 14 but got rejected. I went to a camp at an acting college, AMDA, and realized that I will always love acting but what I want to do is impossible. I am a horrible actress on film. My face doesn't react like I want it to and no matter how much I have trained, I just can't get it right. I wanted to be on Broadway but I can't dance. I took classes starting at age 5 and I never progressed. I never could get it down. I also can't sing. Training hasn't helped that either. For me, I think I realized acting just wasn't a path I was ever going to make it in. This realization has been super tough for me but I know it's the right decision. Now the struggle is just finding something I love just as much but so far, I haven't been able to find that thing. Hopefully I will one day.

I work in entertainment but behind the scenes. So many broken souls and huge egos, it saddens me. My question is.. why do you want to be famous? Do you want be idolized for your mere existence? Why do you want people to worship the ground you walk on? Why Is fame your end goal? I don’t know. My goal in life is inner happiness and peace. I'm graduating from a BFA acting program in a couple months and am learning about the industry/agent things. From what I understand, you can book a high profile gig through your agency, and if you aren't able to keep working at that level/you don't book any jobs within another few weeks afterwards that they send you in for, they can choose to part ways with you. It's purely a business deal, and if they don't feel like you're an asset to the company, they reserve the right to drop you. Super messed up, especially if you're a client who feels like they have a good working relationship with their agent, but also just another facet of the industry. I hope Claire finds success soon!

At 5:54 when it starts getting into the hypothetical and her response to it...this gets me every time because I think this is so true for anyone who has a dream or who is living a life that is authentic to them even if it never works out. There’s a beautiful acceptance and bravery in that that I love to see.

Claire has the passion and the drive to succeed. But nothing is easy, no matter which job in whatever industry. This video reminds me of Dionne Warwick's song,
"Do You Know The Way to San Jose?"
"L.A. is a great big Freeway
Put a hundred down and buy a car
In a week, maybe two, they'll make you a star
Weeks turn into years. How quick they pass
And all the stars that never were
Are parking cars and pumping gas."
"Fame and fortune is a magnet
It can pull you far away from home
With a dream in your heart, you're never alone
Dreams turn into dust and blow away
And there you are without a friend
You pack your car and ride away."

That’s why most people stay in theatre communities. Especially where I live I have a HUGE theatre community. Everyone is happy and enjoying life and they always have a job at the end of the day. While in New York City or LA that may not be the case. So my teach told us that there are other places other than LA and New York to work at. Atlanta is huge right now. Same with Chicago, North Carolina , and south. You don’t have to live in LA or NYC to make it big.

What a brave woman! It's eerie how the interviewer asked that question at the end, and it has been exactly 5 years since this video was posted and technically she still hasn't had her "big break", but she is in so many short films and still acting. So to me that is a win, because she is doing what she loves and is born to do. Which is what she wanted like she said in the video :)

I know that it is brave to keep going even if the outcome is uncertain, and so I will keep doing that.

I connected with this a lot. As someone who’s been trying to make UA-cam happen for a while now, something really clicked for me when you asked her if she would still be acting even if she knew for certain she wouldn’t “make it,” that’s when I realized that if I knew for certain that I would never find success on UA-cam that I would still be making videos. Thanks for helping me further uncover my passion. Can’t wait to see more videos from this series!

People in the comment section are trying to explain why she hasn’t made it big yet to reassure themselves that “you just have to find a way”, but the reality is that there is only so much room at the top, and for every A-lister that book 3 major pictures per year, they are 20000 actors that just saw an opportunity fly out the window, acting is one of the most improbable career ever, you either are lucky and it finds you ( Natalie Portman, Jenifer Lawrence, Johnny Depp ), or you get off your butt and chase it ( Rebel Wilson , Amy Adams ) but it runs really fast, so you have to be in it for the long haul, with no guarantee of stability or success, I get chills just thinking about how crazy it all is.

the problem is, not bashing, i love all people and support people, she has a ONE character voice, personality, ect. no X factor that would make her appealing. she sounds straight from a lifetime movie. famous actors have dif voices and acting skills. its not always something you can learn but what youre born with.... i was born with a few dif voices and i use that with my music, she has one sound of voice and should stick to roles as such like lifetime movies

This was really great for me to watch today. I packed everything I own 3 weeks ago to fly out to my favorite country in the world to look for a job that foreigners usually never apply for. I have absolutely zero idea if I'll be able to find work, I've just rented an apartment with a year lease, and my family wish I would have stayed and found something from home and moved later. When she said "You don't understand; I need this. I need to be here in LA. I do." I just completely understood... she seems so lovely inside and out - wishing her the best & thanks for sharing this Refinery

Thanks for being brave enough to do this Claire. I live in LA too, I want to be a writer. This city can feel so lonely until you remember how much you can relate to everyone around you. I think we've all experienced family AND strangers telling us to get a real job, or be more practical or whatever, so what you said about continuing to pursue your passion even if you knew it would get you nowhere meant a lot to me. LA feels like this bubble sometimes that people outside of it don't understand because we're dreamers that never grew up. Sometimes I wish I was passionate about accounting 😂 but then I remember what a blessing it is to be an artist, and to have a passion you live and breathe for. I wouldn't have it any other way. Good luck with everything!
P.S. I think the Charmed house is also in your neighborhood, right? Love that show!
