Empathy is important so how about a few words on Cassandra:
Cassandra is Jayce's patron of 'many years.' She's known him for awhile and considered him bright enough and ambitious enough that she gave him a lot of money to work. When he does on trial, she sees it as her duty to speak in his defense, says he has solid character, and will be a great contributor to society.
... and he's been lying to her this entire time.
Imagine if you gave someone $100,000 and they spent years telling you how they were investing in innovative technology to improve people's lives and then, the middle of a trial, they just said "Actually, I've been cooking meth in my apartment."
She probably feels used and as though she's been made an idiot very publicly, but she still votes for the lighter sentence.
You ask "How does Cassandra think of Jayce? As an investment?" but you never flip that on Jayce. Does he show any regard for Cassandra? Jayce's dream of Hextech required funds and Cassandra was a fat paycheck. Even when he comes to her manor, Jayce is there because he wants someone to help him with Hextech. He says he's there to 'explain' not 'apologize.'

It's an interesting analogy, except hextec IS innovative technology to improve people's lives, so you didn't really make a distinction here, or at least that distinction is diminished because of that. If those were Jayce's words then he didn't lie or deceive.

    • @Yutani_Crayven
      @Yutani_Crayven 11 місяців тому +4

Also, why Jayce went there doesn't even get the chance to figure into such evaluations, not just because it has no relevance on Cassandra as a character, but also because Cassandra doesn't give him the light of day at all - she's completely unwilling to hear anything from him.
So, yes, it's fair to say that she sees him as an investment and as something to benefit her reputation. And once he can't be a boon to her anymore and her association with him tarnishes her instead, she drops him cold.
Moreover, her defending Jayce can be seen in that same light: defending Jayce helps soften the blow on her own reputation just as much as it "helps" him.

    • @sinsei2165
      @sinsei2165 3 місяці тому +2

@@Yutani_Crayven you say hextech is innovative technology but you're focusing on the endpoint. Magic is literally ONE of the banned things in their society. Cassandra is one of the COUNCIL MEMBERS.
If everyone found out that you, a council member, gave your money and your support to help fund research that is considered heretical, a research that you a council member is task to prevent. What would you feel?
Of course we all know that they will end up accepting hextech but that is irrelevant to what Cassandra knows or feels during that time.
Jace did not only appropriate her funding for banned research, he also possibly implicated her as the one who funded the research on a topic that goes against their society. She is very much right to cut him off at that time. It was the logical and right thing to do from her viewpoint.

The thing that I've noticed is the topsiders have never once mentioned the events of the first episode introduction; the war as Ed sometimes refers to it. The Undercity carries that trauma in much more obvious ways, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Piltover cast wouldn't even know what they were talking about if it was mentioned. Which makes sense, they view the Undercity more as Piltover's slums than a separate city and the movement never even made it across the bridge. To them it was probably just a minor riot that got properly handled by law enforcement a decade ago without even reaching them.
Which also demonstrates why Vander was so against violence. They're so outmatched their previous attempt at rebellion was possibly not even noticed as such.

@@DarthRayj yeah, I think the main reason she even knows about it and the details surrounding it is that it’s literally her job as well. The only person who directly acknowledges that event from topsides perspective is the person who was probably in charge of stopping it and surprisingly despite her being a directly antagonistic character towards the rebellion she’s also one of the most empathetic characters we see in the show. It’s very interesting and adds just another aspect to the conflict and further muddies the water of morality.

He really just showed up, started the episode, and immediately explained a major part of Caitlyn's motivations and half her character arc within seconds of meeting her, based only off one line that wasn't even said by her, and the general vibe of the scene. I can no longer tell if he is psychiatrist or psychic. He clearly has some kind of magic powers.
Also just goes to show how good the writers of Arcane are, that they were able to put enough subtext in one scene that it was even possible to psychoanalyze it that accurately.

It makes me insanely proud of the show for it to be analyzed by someone with a doctorate like this and be predicted so well. Also as someone who relates to these characters so much, especially both Powder and Vi (I have some complex family relationships), to be validated almost and to learn more about myself is insanely fun for me.
I am binging this reaction series and I am so excited to watch the rest especially your reactions to Jinx because I have similar trauma and responses. Well, I actually have an alter that was formed because of similar trauma to Powder and when I watched this show it was UNCANNY the way that Jinx is because my alter is basically exactly like her in her perceptions and understandings of the people and actions around her.

Love the science discussion. There’s a great line from a book I read recently that this brought to mind. The main character is with a bunch of scientists on ship, when one of them says “we’re a 100 km off shore, should be good”. The main says something like “for what? Good for what?”. The scientist looks around, pauses and says “TIME FOR SCIENCE!” and pushes the big red button…😂

I'm going to bring this up as I think it's a very world relevant comparison. Most of Piltover (and especially the council and Heimerdinger) view magic the same way that many in our world view nuclear power. Sure, it may have benefits, but the potential for damage is enough to scare off a huge portion of people. It doesn't matter what the possible benefits are. They've seen one too many Chernobyl's or Fukashima's to ever want to risk allowing anyone to even experiment with it again.
Irony here is I'm a big fan of nuclear power. I think it's dangerous but that its dangers have been exaggerated to the point of it being a cultural boogeyman.

Jesus h effing christ. Cait's a preteen here. Give her a break for respecting her parents. Rebellion is isn't due for a couple of years. Cassandra on the other hand has very good reason for being pissed at Jayce. She put her money and reputation on the line to be his patron, then also spoke up for him in the council and his response was to set up what is this word's equivalent of a meth lab. And even then she STILL voted for the lesser sentence. Remember, she has her own life to lead, her own obligations and responsibilities. From her point of view she is keeping Cait away from a confirmed criminal who got her underage daughter involved in illegal and dangerous activities.

If League of Legends is truly something you want to learn to play, I'd suggest playing the mobile game League of Legends: Wild Rift. It's the same concept as teh PC game, games are a bit quicker due to some changed game mechanics like buildings having less armor. But the real reason I advice it is its tutorial. It has an extensive tutorial that will also get you ready for the PC game of League of Legends.
Lorewise, you're not going to get much out of the game though. As an example, while Vi and her sister are both playable characters, that Vi and Powder are sisters is a piece of lore only revealed in Arcane; not in the game itself.
You can however find additional lore on the website for all the other characters of League of Legends (in the Universe tab) and on their UA-cam channel, in the form of little text stories, comics, concept art, short films, dance videos (yes!), and other material.

I'm not sure you need someone to teach you how to play LoL, it's more a matter of download the client and start playing. You can casual the game with very little input. Is best to start with friends though, like most games of that type. That said, if you really want the experience, you should try DotA, the Warcraft 3 map that Riot ripped off to make LoL. =D
Or maybe even DotA2, the LoL ripoff made by Valve. ;D
French! Arcane is French! It was animated by Fortiche Production out of Paris, France. Riot Games, the IP Owner, is Chinese, being a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tencent out of Shenzhen, Guangdong, China. It is still anime though, because it's animated.
CGP Grey has a fantastic video on why Teleportation is actually just suicide, by extension then therefore teleporting someone else without consent is actually murder. ua-cam.com/video/nQHBAdShgYI/v-deo.html for reference, "The Trouble with Transporters".
Come to think of it, CGP Grey's work would be interesting to see if anyone sufficiently well versed in science had reacted to. Making a note to investigate after this video and to drop that in the suggestions box on the discord....
Point of Order: Fox is spicy _dog_. Animalia>Chordata>Mammalia>Carnivora>>Caniformia>Canidae>Caninae. In contrast, cats are Animalia>Chordata>Mammalia>Carnivora>Feliformia>Felidae>Felinae.
The internet is still swimming in submarine jokes, but it's refreshing to know that Ed wouldn't sink to that level.
Side note: you will survive getting your arm mangled. You won't always survive being knocked out, even in training with an EMT/Para present (which is why tapping out is a thing).
It's not that the council wants another war with Zaun, it's that they're so disconnected from reality in their ivory towers that they assume such a thing isn't even possible.
Considering the age of Kha'Zhun/Osha Va'Zaun/Zaun (thousands of years), it's probably impossible to guess who the statues are supposed to be, really.
Quick note about "what the characters represent in the game": LoL doesn't really do in-game lore. There's character sheets, if you happen to read them, but there's no single-player or story mode, so nearly all of the lore comes from outside the game itself. Plus, many of the characters were taken straight from the original DotA game and thus had to be renamed and altered before Riot could use them, like the Blizzard-owned characters such as Kel'Thuzad and Vol'Jin but also characters the map creator (because it was a player-made map) included from other IPs, like Lina Inverse and Black Arachnia (from Slayers and Transformers: Beast Wars, respectively). The same occured when Valve adapted DotA into DotA2, although most of the name changes are less noticable and mainly to separate DotA2 from Blizzard's IP.
Great reaction, looking forwards to your next one. =)
