*Fun Fact:* Nate Stevenson explained that the story's setting of a high-tech, futuristic world combined with a medieval-style atmosphere is meant to symbolize how although the world has evolved so much, issues that have plagued people throughout human history such as discrimination and prejudice remain ever-existent.
Also the fact that antiquated ideas will never fully die and ppl will stubbornly stick to the past when it comes to morality instead of changing with the times. Technology may advance, and they’ll accept it happily cuz it makes their lives easier, but they refuse to change themselves and how they see the world.
the fact that baby Gloreth looked scared with her sword after her parents indoctrinated the fear into her but the director looked in pure hate when she shot at nimona is so accurate in how the indoctrination process is at first genuine fear that grows into illogical hate
An issue with that is... the kid could be reasonably fearful of the giant dragon even after it became a kid with no indoctrination... 😅 I mean, Nimona being different from everybody else made her life difficult from the beginning, 1000 years ago animals avoided her and villagers were scared of her even thinking the entire Gloreth's cult was not a thing still.
@@FrancescaAkira89 they may have edited their comment after you replied, but they were talking about glorith 😅 not the little girl that nimona saved as a dragon
Idk but to me it seemed like gloreth only said what she said to protect her, to get her away from the villagers knowing what would happen if she stayed
Fun thing I noticed (and other people probably noticed, I just haven’t seen anyone talk about it)- Nimona’s last form was a phoenix and phoenix’s are known for rising from the ashes. At the end of the story Nimona comes back, they rise from the ashes. This could a metaphor for how people in the LGBTQIA+ community can be pushed down and hurt but we will always come back up bigger and stronger! (Sorry if that didn’t make complete sense I am quite tired 😅)
When that happened in The Iron Giant, the foreshadowing was about an hour in advance, as we saw the Giant could pull himself together literally. But here, the foreshadowing was right before the epilogue. And yet it worked so well... well, that and she mentioned a phoenix in her first conversation. Point is, unlike so much media invalidating a sacrifice, it wasn't a cop out cause it fits in with Nimona's power to be anything she wants. And it's not just us in the LGBT it symbolizes; there are so many people mislabeled for something that doesn't need to hurt the common people, and true strength for them is picking themselves back up again.
I'm 75, straight male, lost my wife and have a son by her. I love the movie and have cried many times watching it. The movie has to do with everyone that does not fit the mold that others give to you.
@@ItsJustEBro not really 😭 i mean yeah younger people are more common but ive seen enough older people to not be surprised lol, alot of them are even youtubers themselves
One thing that I noticed in the beginning of the movie when Ambrosius cut off Ballister’s arm, it seemed like he genuinely was trying to disarm Ballister rather than actually injure him, as his face afterward was a combination of betrayal and “Oh God. WHAT HAVE I DONE!?”
i also love when i watched it a 2nd time i noticed at the beginning the squire tries to show bal what the director had done, but he got cut off before he could.
Important note. Nimona is not inside the shadow monster. They are the same thing. Human, shadow monster, etc are all Ninoma Also, also, the "need to sneeze, feels worse when I don't do it" thing really resonated with me as a genderfluid person.
Human, shapeshifter, shadow of themselves devoid of the colour of life. The "Nimona" people want. The Nimona that they are/want to be. And the nimona who doesn't feel there's anyone there for them, sick of losing everyone they care about because of wanting to be themselves, and is just wanting the pain to end.
I like the touch that when Balaster says “I see you Nimona” he doesn’t look into the “core” where you would think the “real” Nimona is, he looks her in the eyes.
But what about when you need to sneeze but just don't because it suddenly dissipates? You feel embarrassed, almost like you were building up to something only for it to be pointless. ... I swear, that was not a metaphor for queer people such as myself; I just felt like expressing how I feel about losing the need to sneeze. But I get your message.
They’re not winning fans back after canceling TOH. Maybe in like 5 years when they hire better ppl and stop listening to their executives stupid ideas instead of the ppl actually making the products they sell.
mosco: GET THAT SHITE PINEAPPLE OFF MY PIZZA elijah: I FRICKIN LOVE PINEAPPLE ON PIZZA morgan: this is probably gonna start ww3. chill it's just pizza. three types of people in a nutshell Edit: oh no I’ve started it in the comments
I think a big part of it is how sweet and spicy the sauce and other toppings are. Pineapple and jalapeno is often really good, IMO, whereas just pineapple with a sweet and mild pizza sauce is at best meh and often gross.
As someone who literally almost got killed by a transphobe, this movie broke me, it took me almost 3/4hours to watch it, between the panic attack and the breakdowns 🥺
@@arabellasterwerf7980 It was hard happened young and even with +10 years of therapy, I'm pretty sure I'm broken beyond repair, I try to make the most of it
Having watched the owl house, the dragon prince and now nimona with my 9 year old daughter, its helped her see that there's more to relationships than 'boy / girl'. She said to me the other day that she thought only boys married girls. Using her terms; I've explained to her that not only do boys marry girls, but boys can marry boys and girls can marry girls; its all perfectly natural and that its only parts of society and religion that have a problem with it. p.s. man in my 50s and had tears in the eye with the nimona and the statue scene, very moving.
There's a line that I think of whenever I see this movie. "If you treat people like animals, big shock, they become animals." - Jacob Taylor, Mass Effect 2
As someone who's childhood fave was Batman and also hates superheros I highly recommend watching the Spiderverse. I didn't wanna watch it at first cuz it's superheros but I kept hearing how amazing the animation was, so my art kid self finally caved and watched it. It's an amazing movie. Not about "justice" but about living up to expectations and finding yourself. Any fan of animation or good storytelling should watch it.
Ow I’m glad you said that! I would love to see Morgan react to it and I do think they would rather like it xd It’s an amazing movie, tho I’m bias, I like superheroes. But I wasn’t one of those ppl whos fav is spiderman, but spiderverse become my fav movie in an instant. Granted the first one, animation doesn’t seem sooo revolutionary now(but atill amazing), bc in 5 years all the other animated projects caught up with it (or maby bc I saw it a bilion times). But now the others caught up, the new spiderverse knocked it out of the park completly, and animation industry will be taking inspiration from it for years. Ofc those are also really great writen and emotional movies, not just amazing animation ❤️ especially with the second one having a trans (coded?) character (I don’t think they are coded, I think they are simply trans xd) I really wish Morgan would react to it 😄❤️
Idk how about you, but I din’t know cis ppl who have trans flag on their bedroom wall xd some for sure have, sure she might be an ally, but if I see a trans flag on someone’s wall, I’m like 90% sure it’s their identity xd and that on top of her scenes with her dad, which isn’t trans coming out but very much sounds like one - can be a metaphore for one, she is drenched with trans flag colours, and her dad is acusing her of “killing his son”. and that on top of the fact that the whole superhero thing of hiding identity and stuff, thats been pretty queer coded for a while. It’s just all those things at once xd She doesn’t say she’s trans on screen. but does she have to spell it out? Nimona is a trans metaphor, if she additionally had a trans flag in her bedroom? 🤷♀️
There’s something so special about watching queer people react to this movie. There’s so many messages in there for us that cishet people just don’t catch, and it’s so good to see other people like me take note and talk about it. Nimona as a character is incredibly dear to me as a genderfluid person, and as an aro ace person whose identity is stigmatized constantly. This movie is incredibly validating for me :’)
Omg me too! I’m a genderfluid aroace too! Some of the most misunderstood and stigmatized labels that just don’t seem to belong by other ppl😭 genderfluidity: how does that make sense? Either you’re trans or not. You must be confused. Aroace: so you just don’t feel love? That must be so sad. You must be such a cold hearted person (+the good ol’ bonus: you just haven’t found the right one yet)
It's interesting to me how they played with Nimona's origins when adapting this from the graphic novel. The graphic novel had her as originally being a child who was handed off to the Institute when she developed powers, disowned by her parents as a changeling, and experimented on until she escaped one day. The changeling myth is theorized to have been developed as an excuse for parents whose kids aren't "normal," whether that be queer, neurodivergent, or anything else. Considering being part of LGBTQ+ used to be seen as a mental illness, her being given to the Institute is a clear parallel. Meanwhile, Nimona in the movie just started as a being in nature, a little different from the rest, but looking for acceptance like everyone else. She goes through a lot of suffering as well, but the key takeaway in this version is that she's a natural part of the world. Side not, sorry if she/her pronouns bug anyone in this. Given that Nimona spends most of the film in female forms, I'm working on the assumption that she/they is probably accurate. Frequently comfortable female, but absolutely not locked into it
Considering Nimona never _actually_ seems to take offence to being referred to as female, nor does she ever correct people on it, I just use female pronouns for her.
@@justlivinglife1167 Cool. I'm a straight ally, but I've been making a point to be mindful where pronouns are concerned. It's still not something I'm used to though, which is why I decided to explain my reasoning. Figured whether people justified it or called me out, I'd learn something from the experience
In polish dubbing nimona in the movie uses non binary pronouns for themselfs and I think it's awesome because in poland we don't have almost any representation like this and in polish language we don't use nonbinary pronouns almost never!!!
I see you and you're not alone. That scene is just amazingly done. How many people need to hear that? And how many didn't heat it before it was too late? We came so close to not getting this movie, and I'm glad it was saved.
i don't even know how he came up with such a tremendous idea!! fantasy and tech is a combination no one could've thought of, but Nate? Nate is a genius.
@abysstheanimus the closest thing I can think of is maybe Star Wars. Looking past the robots and spaceships and laser swords, it's a fantasy not sci-fi
Ironically, Nate had no true involvement in this movie, and I think it turned out to be a better-weaved and more impactful story than *She-Ra* *She-Ra* is still a really good series tho
@roo1014 The original novel had all of the elements and I think the screenwriters fleshed out and expanded the world, themes and characters beautifully. Obviously in the wake of Nates transition, there is more emphasis on the trans narrative than in the comic.
22:32 the best part of this for me is that this has been, for multiple years before this movie, the main way I was able to describe dysphoria. it's not exactly right, but as nimona said, it's pretty close. I just can't believe we got this good of representation in mainstream media, and i feel so incredibly seen by it
I love that at the end Nimona changed into a Phoenix so she could come back, and thats why it was that firey red behind bal. Cause she was coming back, still as a Phoenix
I watched this with my kids, it's their favorite movie now they've seen it over and over. I knew going in it was a trans allegory which is why I believe it's so important my kids watch it and understand it. Everyone in our family is cis and straigjt as far as i know but I believe it's important that they understand empathy and the need for human beings to be happy so they can't grow up to big bigoted conservative scum bags. Even at their young ages they understand now from this movie that people are different and diverse and deserve to be who they are. My dream is that my kids will be among friend groups when they are teenagers or adults and someone they know might say something bigoted, and my kids will stand up and speak out. If I fail in other ways as a parent at least I will have succeeded in this way.
The beast they turned into in the end just... FLOORED me. It was so freaking awesome, everything about it was incredibly designed. And the emotion behind everything she felt. I ADORE this movie. Absolutely and completely ADORE.
As an artist, I love this movie for it's animation and creativity. (The venom in my profile was drawn by me) But I also love it for the many hidden messages and how it's able to connect with so many people. Nimona is one of a kind and I hope there'll be more movies like this for the future.
Couple things. 99% of the damage to the city was caused by the knights, just like the fire. It’s not just that they’re provoking Nimona and making her fight back(which they barely even do), but they are literally destroying themselves because of their irrational fear. Second, the director has such a huge power complex. In quoting Gloreth, she is literally trying to play God. She’s not just narcissistic, she is completely delusional. You could draw certain parallels to some people in the real world you may or may not have heard of. Last, on a lighter note, Nimona’s fire breath in the credits is a full progress flag, which is wonderful.
What you said about how Nimona talking about her transformations being a metaphor about dysphoria and sharing your story about how being forced to wear female clothing hit hard with me! I have the same issue wearing female clothing. That scene was a perfect metaphor for how dysphoria feels. Another great reaction Morgan!
I can count on on my fingers (probably on one hand) the number of movies/shows/etc. that have repeatedly made me cry not only every time I watch them, but also every time I watch someone react to them. Nimona is on that short list. I always tear up when Nimona's shadow form screams in front of the statue of Gloreth right before Ballister shows up. Every goddamn time. Every reaction video. Every re-watch (there have been several already). Even a short clip of just that scene will get me. I can't even describe how good this movie is, that even after so many re-watches and reactions that I've honestly lost count, it can still make me feel the same way every time.
About the lights in animals eyes, basically it’s a reflective membrane in the back of the eyes that helps with night vision. I don’t remember the exact mechanics but my understanding is that it reflects a little bit of light from their surroundings and acts kind of like a mini flashlight. I believe it’s mostly nocturnal animals that have them since diurnal animals have little need for them
i nearly broke when Nimona tried to impale herself on the sword. just the agonizing wail of grief that's been kept away for a thousand years... omg... i had to pause and go pet my cats for a little bit.
Watching Nimona reactions from members of the LGBTQ are eye-opening for majority outsiders like myself. These reactors sharing their inner struggles through films, which the general audience empathize at higher level, teaches the public much more than speeches or protest rallies. Thank you for the lesson Morgan Terry. For anyone with suicide thoughts, please have the courage to reach out. More than you realize, there are people in the world, perhaps not nearby, but people out there who see you.
I was onto the director when we saw her visiting our protagonist in jail. She felt comfortable enough to twist the knife in for him even though she was not supposed to be familiar with the weapon used to kill the Queen (He could have had the same weapon on him hidden inside other objects). That was an instant red flag for me.
On the topic of shows and walls, perhaps you were thinking of Hilda? The walls of Trollsberg were a pretty big recurring theme in it, and while people do venture beyond the wall, it rapidly became more and more dangerous. Until it wasn't. Also, I don't want to put words to your feelings, but from what I saw... those were tears of joy at seeing someone who understands. We oftentimes neglect how important it is to be understood; to be heard. The Owl House played with that concept, but Nimona leans hard into it, specifically for LBGTQ+ representation. I also love how Bal, a queer man with a loving and healthy relationship is just as small-minded as everyone else at first; it shows that just because you're a part of a community instantly means you know everything. And yes. Nimona is a masterpiece.
Id definitely recommend watching spiderverse for the chamnel, not just because its georgeous and influential to the animation of basically every (good) animated movie coming out recently and presumably the next decade, but considering all the hype for the second it would likely get a lot of new traffic/viewers(which you deserve❤)
The decade just started, and yet we managed to have our first masterpiece!!! In all seriousness, Blue Sky studios will be missed but it's happy to know that annapurna animation will continue it's legacy 😇😇😇
This is a great reaction to an amazing masterpiece of a movie, so thought I'd make sure to leave a few timestamps for some of my favorite reaction moments. :P Morgan at 3:20- Oh, they're friends? Morgan at 3:37- *breaks because of happiness* Morgan at 5:18- I feel like something bad's about to happens. Morgan at 5:55- Wtf is that!? Morgan at 9:12- I love Nimona! Nimona: If you don't, then you'll die in this closet! *Sarcastic tone* Yeah, that line didn't strike me in an emotional way at all. Morgan at 12:52- I'm getting a lot of queer vibes. Nimona is my shapeshifting icon/role model and I love everything about her(going with she/her as Nate has previously stated she/her are accurate pronouns for the character). I absolutely LOVE the fact that they took the time to make Nimona's storytelling so artistic and creative, just for her to end it by calling him out for being uptight and asking closed minded questions. Thanks to you, I now want pentagram highlights in my eyes! lol I really love the change you see in Ballister when he goes from "why can't you just be normal?" to "what does it feel like to shapeshift? Does it...hurt?" There's legitimate concern in his question along with the curiosity. It's no longer him trying to get her to do what he wants, but him wanting to better understand her. I also really, really love the description of the way it feels to her. The whole "you know that feeling right before you sneeze?" and the following explanation is just...beautiful. Because, pretty much everyone can understand that feeling! Morgan at 25:22- They've got PROOF mothafucka~! Nimona: "Little kids. They grow up believing they can be a hero by driving a sword into anything different. And I'M the monster?" Ugh, STILL this hurts my soul every time I hear it! Nimona: "I don't know what's scarier. The fact that everyone wants to run a sword through my heart. Or that sometimes, I want to let them." Seriously, this whole scene is probably the thing that hits me the absolute hardest throughout the movie(Plus the big scene at the end of course). So relatable to so many people. It really does make me cry every time. Morgan at 28:13- How are we not even at the half way point of the movie? I feel like I've been through the five stages of grief already. Morgan at 30:36- *shocked Pikachu face* The flashback of a shapeshifter literally turning into the exact thing as everyone else, literally forming themself to fit into society, and still not being accepted by anyone...it really hurts. Morgan at 38:46- Oh, the statue holding the sword will remind her of what happened, and that won't be good for anyone I think. Morgan at 39:24- No! No! NO! (Literally my same reaction, with tears, the first time I watched this and every time after) Morgan at 43:17- You MOTHERFUCKERS! Great reactions! Sorry for such a long comment, but this was fun to me. :P
"I absolutely LOVE the fact that they took the time to make Nimona's storytelling so artistic and creative, just for her to end it by calling him out for being uptight and asking closed minded questions." I didn't buy that _for a second!_ She was being passive-aggressively upset about Ballister's question,so it was *clear* she wasn't about to give him an honest answer...yet. P.S. I'm surprised *NO ONE* has yet compared Nimona to Vanellope...the SECOND she started to talk to Ballister I was like:"Oh,ok,so she's another Vanellope."
28:06 something I noticed while I watched this movie, is that the lighting in that scene kinda looked like a sword. Idk if that was intentional, but if it was, it likely symbolizes what Nimona just said, or Foreshadowing of what Nimona was about to do to herself near the end of the movie. Either way, it’s heartbreaking
this movie is so deep and it makes me cry everytime not just as an enby person but as how much i feel for nimona and feel for this storyline and all of the deepness that a lot of straight people seem to not understand from what i've seen.
I'm a cisgender woman so I can't speak fully on the way Nimona resonates with other communities, but I did think it was kind of beautiful to choose to depict her as always being a shapeshifter. Nothing made her that way, nothing "broke" or "changed" her. She just IS Nimona, and always has been, for over a thousand years. She's always been here. ❤
I so rarely comment on videos. Even the ones I like. But oh my f'in god. I loved this movie when I first watched it. But even as a gay man there was so much I missed. Even being gay I am still a white male. There is so much I've never experienced. So much privilege I still had. Trans people. Queens. People of all colors. They were the ones that threw the brick. Your reaction to this video opened so much more than I took from it. So thank you. Thank you for putting yourself out there. Thank you for giving me an expanded view on something that I already loved. A lot of what resonated with you I felt. But you brought so much more to light for me. You are amazing. (And by the way, your hair is friggin amazing.)
I think another theme of this movie which I noticed, is to illustrate just how much that the government (kingdom, ruling party, etc.) will try to weaponize the fear of the unknown to suit their own ends.😬🤷🏻♂️
Regarding the shines on the pupils, Ballister and Ambrosius both have diamonds as shines at first as to symbolize their loyalty as knights, but then Bal’s shines turn to squares when he starts to defy the Institute and Ambrosius’s shines turn to upside-down triangles whenever he’s with Ballister, especially in moments where he has to decide between his loyalty to Bal or to the Institute. They occasionally alternate between the shapes depending on the situation. It is also important to note that Nimona doesn’t have a “main form”. Her human form isn’t even her main one, it’s just one of the many forms she choses to have. All forms are her, all forms are Nimona.
I said it before, but I'll say it again - the fact that the mainstream reaction channels are lagging on this one only means I get to find cool new reactors like you every other day. Subscribed.
You’ve put into words an observation I had at the back of my mind. I expected reactors like Beyond The Trailer, Reel Rejects, Heavy Spoilers and New Rockstars to be all over this gem of a movie. I’m surprised that that hasn’t happened (yet?)
There’s a detail I don’t see people talk about much. When Nimona is in her kaiju form and about to impale herself on the statue she screams. But it’s not the giant beast noises she’s been making up until this point. Right when she’s about to end it all she screams and it comes out in her voice. It’s just a reminder that she hasn’t lost control or been overtaken by her monstrous side or something. She’s still Nimona and she’s still a person who is hurting. I’ve seen this like half a dozen times and that still brings a tear to my eye.
I realized recently what the scene of Nimona's suicide attempt reminded me of - a few years back, there was a high school football coach named Keanon Lowe who helped stop one of his students from shooting himself. He not only got the young man's gun away from him, but he hugged him tight and let him break down in his arms. I imagine if Nimona weren't a fantasy story, that scene would play very similarly.
My absolute favorite part about the "Cold in here?" joke is that she actually says it *before* she looks down. She wasn't reacting to what she saw, she was aiming to eviscerate this man from the word go.
such an amazing and impactful movie that came out at the perfect time. so much to appreciate about it. one of the things i loved the most about it, though, is how it showed that children are not inherently judgmental or cruel to those who are different, it's something that adults and society teaches them, and it's something that can be unlearned. ALSO check the background of the scene where he pulls the arrow out of nimona's leg. there's two pride flags.
I’m not sure if this is what you were thinking of, but in The Lorax, there was a wall around the town and no one ever left. Though instead of there being monsters beyond the wall, there was nothing but a barren wasteland. Also, this movie is AMAZING. Nimona is one of my favorite characters in anything ever, and Todd is a GIGANTIC douche-canoe.
“I don’t know what’s scarier. The fact that everyone in this kingdom want to run a sword through my heart, or that sometimes I just wanna let them” broke me. I don’t know if that’s my favourite line, because it so hard and deep. So I wanna say that every jokes that she make and her humour is my favourite. My favourite shapeshift is the wolf and the phoenix I think. But the otter and birds are also cute.
This might be the first time that the whole Skittle Squad has reacted to one thing all pretty much at the same time. The Owl House, Helluva Boss, Arcane, Gravity Falls, and She-Ra, etc. were all viewed on different timetables between you; but Nimona is I think the first thing that Bill, Elijah, Mosco, and you all watched around the same time. I think that's pretty cool. Also, it does not matter that you're not a fan of superheroes, because if you are at all a fan of animation, you need to watch Spider-Verse. It changed the animation industry and directly inspired the style of countless movies and Arcane. But it's also just one of the best movies ever, and you're gonna want to check out the first two before you miss the chance to at least see Beyond the Spider-Verse in theaters. If not for the story, then at least for the insanely beautiful, once in a lifetime visual experience.
In the intro, the "you can never let your guard down" is more of a comment on society. The idea of being ever vigilant, always on defensive, is very common in totalitarianism and fascism. "Monsters are everywhere, trust the system/government. We will protect you." Even if they have to fabricate the monsters, or label marginalized communities as monsters. Love and peace! 💚💛🌈
Me: *sees a video by a creator I’ve never watched before. Sees that it’s a reaction video to Nimona. I love Nimona. I click. I see Angel Dust. I subscribe.*
I just realized what Nimona turning into a Phoenix at the end actually means. The Phoenix represents immortality and rebirth, as well as overcoming anger. I think Nimona becoming a Phoenix shows that they have overcome their anger and hurt which created the monster they became at the end. And it also probably represents how Nimona is immortal and not actually gone. The symbolism in this movie is amazing
Your reaction is the best one I saw now, you're actually so into the film and are pay attention to every detail you see (which makes you understand it, instead of.. Well, not understanding it because not paying attention) and just so sincere and cute reactions ❤
You know what the best and worst part about nimona is? The fact that what we feel for this character is exactly what real people need to hear, to know that if they're watching this movie, what they feel when they don't want her to die is what someone else would feel for them. Often we cant say the words because those words are too cheap to mean something to that person. But now we don't need words through Nimona. This movie speaks through the characters. Like emotional support from yourself, knowing someone out there feels that way..
The message I got from this movie was that you shouldn't judge people before getting to know them The universe has a funny way of giving you what you want. Expect monsters and you'll get monsters
I knew that u were gonna leave all the best parts in, that's why I couldn't wait for ur reaction. My favourite scene has to be the 1 where Nimona explains her transformation, because I love how precisely she does it, u r able to understand her instantly. And it's also the scene where Ballister finally starts to get her. And another 1 of my favourites is where Ballister saves Nimona by apologising and being with her. It would've been my #1 if it wasn't so sad. As for favourite form, I think the cutest animal forms Nimona took for me personally were the ostrich and the whale. Though tbh Nimona is great in any of her original forms!
at 29:00 she came back from her dark moment so fast, because for the FIRST time in her life, someone would have stayed with her, the First time she was NOT alone anymore....
I hope this isn't weird but UA-cam recommended this video to me because I've been watching too many Nimona videos, and my immediate thought was "oh this person actually looks like a real life version of Nimona" (please take that as a compliment btw, I love it)
Another thing that this movie touches on that i havent seen anyone thats reacted mention is the internal hate in our community. Now a days being gay is not as much of an "issue" now that people have been expanding and expressing themselves more even our own community thats gone through all this same bullshit has turned their backs on anyone thats more than just gay.
I definitely suggest checking out the comic to this movie. It is so good. I also suggest checking out Spiderverse. I don't really care for Superhero movies either generally, but I loved it because it doesn't really play out like they normally do. The animation is also gorgeous. Gwen's story is also very trans coded.
Nimona: To help you do whatever it takes to get revenge on the cruel world that rejected you. Shall we pillage a village? Lay low until they don’t remember you. Then we rise like a fiery phoenix from the ashes to overthrow the government!

Technology may advance, and they’ll accept it happily cuz it makes their lives easier, but they refuse to change themselves and how they see the world.
I guess that's why Nimona is dressed in a punk/modern outfit?
Most so-called "fun facts" aren't fun at all, but this one really is! Thanks for sharing it.
That is some excellent world building! Thanks for that fact!
I love that. It’s true!
the fact that baby Gloreth looked scared with her sword after her parents indoctrinated the fear into her but the director looked in pure hate when she shot at nimona is so accurate in how the indoctrination process is at first genuine fear that grows into illogical hate
@FrancescaAkira89 i mean u dont neat religion to get indoctrinated by ur home to fear and be aggressive to everything thats different

Fun thing I noticed (and other people probably noticed, I just haven’t seen anyone talk about it)-
Nimona’s last form was a phoenix and phoenix’s are known for rising from the ashes. At the end of the story Nimona comes back, they rise from the ashes.
This could a metaphor for how people in the LGBTQIA+ community can be pushed down and hurt but we will always come back up bigger and stronger! (Sorry if that didn’t make complete sense I am quite tired 😅)
LGBTQ SYMBOLISM
No. It makes perfect sense. 👍🏾
Ive rlly noticed that and I thought it was fun that she hinted at that during the scene with ballister
Also at the start she tells Ballister they should rise like a Phoenix from the ashes and overthrow the government

I love everything about this movie. The themes, the characters, the representation, and the Shapeshifting.
Well, Bal was definitely disarmed.
i also love when i watched it a 2nd time i noticed at the beginning the squire tries to show bal what the director had done, but he got cut off before he could.

Important note. Nimona is not inside the shadow monster. They are the same thing. Human, shadow monster, etc are all Ninoma
Also, also, the "need to sneeze, feels worse when I don't do it" thing really resonated with me as a genderfluid person.
Hi, fellow fluid :) I hope you're doing all right.
Nimona is an absolute masterpiece. So 🤘METAL🤘!!!
Take notes Disney, LGBT content like this movie and Owl House is how to earn your fans back.
Disney : Hahaha ha ........ You're serious?
Disney made nimona sorta but didn’t release it
They’re not winning fans back after canceling TOH. Maybe in like 5 years when they hire better ppl and stop listening to their executives stupid ideas instead of the ppl actually making the products they sell.

I think a big part of it is how sweet and spicy the sauce and other toppings are. Pineapple and jalapeno is often really good, IMO, whereas just pineapple with a sweet and mild pizza sauce is at best meh and often gross.

Thanks for teaching your daughter and letting her watch Nimona
There's a line that I think of whenever I see this movie.
"If you treat people like animals, big shock, they become animals." - Jacob Taylor, Mass Effect 2
that fits Nimona so perfectly
Ofc those are also really great writen and emotional movies, not just amazing animation ❤️ especially with the second one having a trans (coded?) character (I don’t think they are coded, I think they are simply trans xd) I really wish Morgan would react to it 😄❤️
YESS as someone who doesn’t like action/superhero movies and refuses to watch marvel, spiderverse is the exception
A 14 year old animated part of the second one.
"I love Batman, but I hate superheroes."
Me: *visible confusion*
There’s something so special about watching queer people react to this movie. There’s so many messages in there for us that cishet people just don’t catch, and it’s so good to see other people like me take note and talk about it.
Nimona as a character is incredibly dear to me as a genderfluid person, and as an aro ace person whose identity is stigmatized constantly. This movie is incredibly validating for me :’)
Trust me, some of us "cishet" people caught every single one.

Same I use she/they too which I feel is most accurate for her (ironically they're mine too which is just one more thing I relate to her with lol)
@@justlivinglife1167 Cool. I'm a straight ally, but I've been making a point to be mindful where pronouns are concerned. It's still not something I'm used to though, which is why I decided to explain my reasoning. Figured whether people justified it or called me out, I'd learn something from the experience
I feel like Nimona goes by all pronouns
nimona is she/they/he/anything. not sure why people forget the "he" when we got
"and now you're a boy" "i am today"
In polish dubbing nimona in the movie uses non binary pronouns for themselfs and I think it's awesome because in poland we don't have almost any representation like this and in polish language we don't use nonbinary pronouns almost never!!!
YO ok that is great!
The audio description also uses they/them pronouns for nimona
That is AWESOME! 💛🤍💜🖤
It's important to note that the statue pose, with the sword drawn, is always shown in the perspective with the sword pointed at the viewer.
I see you and you're not alone. That scene is just amazingly done. How many people need to hear that? And how many didn't heat it before it was too late? We came so close to not getting this movie, and I'm glad it was saved.
Fun fact: the Queen is voiced by the same actress who did Shadow Weaver in Netflix’s She-Ra

@@evancrow2191 LOL good one.
Between this and She-Ra, I hope Nate continues this combining of fantasy and tech. It works so well.
i don't even know how he came up with such a tremendous idea!! fantasy and tech is a combination no one could've thought of, but Nate? Nate is a genius.
@abysstheanimus the closest thing I can think of is maybe Star Wars. Looking past the robots and spaceships and laser swords, it's a fantasy not sci-fi
@@abysstheanimusDoes Arcane count as doing that?
Ironically, Nate had no true involvement in this movie, and I think it turned out to be a better-weaved and more impactful story than *She-Ra*
*She-Ra* is still a really good series tho
@roo1014 The original novel had all of the elements and I think the screenwriters fleshed out and expanded the world, themes and characters beautifully. Obviously in the wake of Nates transition, there is more emphasis on the trans narrative than in the comic.
Nimona struck me as genderfluid with the “I’m a boy today” line. As a genderfluid person myself, I approve😮💨
I was cry-laughing at that line because it was like, "Exaclty, Nimona! Exactly!"
My favorite moment was the " Cold in here?".🤣 I'd definitely recommend giving Spider Verse a watch, but if you don't want to, that's your right.❤
"Don't you pull a Luz-from-the-owl-house on me!"
The movie: *proceeds to pull a Luz-from-the-owl-house on they*
I watched this with my kids, it's their favorite movie now they've seen it over and over.
You're a amazing parent ;w;

Yeah Nimona is definitely queer coded. Also, the metal thing is a vibe and a half. Great movie.
To me she’s a representation for non binary, gender fluid and trans people. /lh
The beast they turned into in the end just... FLOORED me. It was so freaking awesome, everything about it was incredibly designed. And the emotion behind everything she felt. I ADORE this movie. Absolutely and completely ADORE.
As an artist, I love this movie for it's animation and creativity. (The venom in my profile was drawn by me)
But I also love it for the many hidden messages and how it's able to connect with so many people.
Nimona is one of a kind and I hope there'll be more movies like this for the future.
Omg morgan you just made me die dead 😂😂😂 “arm chopping is not a love lenguage… i mean.. in the owl house it kind of is” 😂😂😂 SO TRUEEEE ❤😂
My favorite part of the movie was when Nimona was talking about how everyone wants to drive a sword through her because it's so true. 😭
This movie's expressive animation and comedic timing are just the cherry on top of brilliant writing!
Glad I saw it, glad it exists!
"Do it! Do it! Do it! Do it!"
Nimona: Fcking "dies"
Morgan: "Well, shit."
Did anyone else catch that during the "monster" part, you can hear Nimona screaming instead of a monsters rawr? That little detail broke me! ;-;
"So...Fire breathing IS on the table..."
Me: giggling uncontrollably at the the perfect pun that just happened seemingly unintentionally xD
I love this movie's hard cuts. It is like a lesson in 'just don't write the boring parts.'
This is a great reaction to an amazing masterpiece of a movie, so thought I'd make sure to leave a few timestamps for some of my favorite reaction moments. :P

Morgan at 3:37- *breaks because of happiness*
Morgan at 5:18- I feel like something bad's about to happens.
Thanks to you, I now want pentagram highlights in my eyes! lol
I really love the change you see in Ballister when he goes from "why can't you just be normal?" to "what does it feel like to shapeshift? Does it...hurt?" There's legitimate concern in his question along with the curiosity. It's no longer him trying to get her to do what he wants, but him wanting to better understand her.
I also really, really love the description of the way it feels to her. The whole "you know that feeling right before you sneeze?" and the following explanation is just...beautiful. Because, pretty much everyone can understand that feeling!
Morgan at 25:22- They've got PROOF mothafucka~!
Nimona: "Little kids. They grow up believing they can be a hero by driving a sword into anything different. And I'M the monster?"
Ugh, STILL this hurts my soul every time I hear it!
Nimona: "I don't know what's scarier. The fact that everyone wants to run a sword through my heart. Or that sometimes, I want to let them."
Seriously, this whole scene is probably the thing that hits me the absolute hardest throughout the movie(Plus the big scene at the end of course). So relatable to so many people. It really does make me cry every time.
Morgan at 28:13- How are we not even at the half way point of the movie? I feel like I've been through the five stages of grief already.
Morgan at 30:36- *shocked Pikachu face*
The flashback of a shapeshifter literally turning into the exact thing as everyone else, literally forming themself to fit into society, and still not being accepted by anyone...it really hurts.
Morgan at 38:46- Oh, the statue holding the sword will remind her of what happened, and that won't be good for anyone I think.
Morgan at 39:24- No! No! NO! (Literally my same reaction, with tears, the first time I watched this and every time after)
Morgan at 43:17- You MOTHERFUCKERS!
*A truly phenomenal movie.*
this movie is so deep and it makes me cry everytime not just as an enby person but as how much i feel for nimona and feel for this storyline and all of the deepness that a lot of straight people seem to not understand from what i've seen.
5:58 This is the first time I noticed the Director wasn't surprised
I watched Nimona 3 times and like 5 reaction videos and i cry every time with that statue scene :(
I'm a cisgender woman so I can't speak fully on the way Nimona resonates with other communities, but I did think it was kind of beautiful to choose to depict her as always being a shapeshifter. Nothing made her that way, nothing "broke" or "changed" her. She just IS Nimona, and always has been, for over a thousand years. She's always been here. ❤
when Nimona is in her "monster form" each time she scream we hear a roar combined with her voice screaming in pain
Your reaction has brought me so much joy! Your reaction to Ambrosius and Ballister alone was adorable. ❤
“mosco told me this might get me emotional” might?? MIGHT?!?! lol this movie ran through audience’ hearts like the tomb raider 😭😭😭
I HAVE BEEN FROTHING AT THE MOUTH WAITING FOR YOUR REACTION TO THIS MOVIEEEE YES
23:25 These tears are the tears of feeling seen and not like the world tries to deny your very existence
"We just started!" Somebody forgot the emotional damage that Nate did to everybody with She-ra... ;)
I watched this movie a few days ago and Nimona immediately made me think of you 😅 then chuckled when you said they have your same chaotic energy 😂💖
such an amazing and impactful movie that came out at the perfect time. so much to appreciate about it. one of the things i loved the most about it, though, is how it showed that children are not inherently judgmental or cruel to those who are different, it's something that adults and society teaches them, and it's something that can be unlearned.
ALSO check the background of the scene where he pulls the arrow out of nimona's leg. there's two pride flags.
also your hair looks so cool!!!
This has become one of my favorite movies ever, it’s so good
It's morbidly hilarious how many reactors comment on how cool Ballister's sword is JUST before it goes off and kills the Queen.
I teared up too at the first 5 minutes of Ambrosius and Balister being so wholesome
The message I got from this movie was that you shouldn't judge people before getting to know them
The universe has a funny way of giving you what you want. Expect monsters and you'll get monsters
3:18 The way it just got better😭🤌
I actually cried so much during this movie and this usually doesn't happen, I never cry in movies but nimona makes me fucking sob
Nimona is a great movie!
It's currently 10am and I am uncontrollably ugly crying because of this movie at 10am. Why is this my day so far!
Wholesome moment happens
Morgan:aww
Directer: fire the cannons
Morgan:what the f*** DID YOU JUST SAY
I hope this isn't weird but UA-cam recommended this video to me because I've been watching too many Nimona videos, and my immediate thought was "oh this person actually looks like a real life version of Nimona" (please take that as a compliment btw, I love it)
The tears without it being sad. I don't know but I always thought that that was my brain telling me I know that pain.
I hadn’t finished this video the last time I watched it and I was met with:
“REST IN DISTRESS! MOTHER FOCKA!” Along with:
**gay middle fingers** 😂
I definitely suggest checking out the comic to this movie. It is so good. I also suggest checking out Spiderverse. I don't really care for Superhero movies either generally, but I loved it because it doesn't really play out like they normally do. The animation is also gorgeous. Gwen's story is also very trans coded.
Nimona is such a chaos goblin, and I adore them.
all i'm going to say is, people need to stop letting their fear run the world
Are we not gonna talk about how nimona looks like a Younger you
So much of this reminded me of ParaNorman, one of my all-time favorites.
@@luyolontozini-dc3yo And treating ones they view differently as monsters until they literally become them.
Nimona:
To help you do whatever it takes to get revenge on the cruel world that rejected you.
Shall we pillage a village? Lay low until they don’t remember you.
Then we rise like a fiery phoenix from the ashes to overthrow the government!
Ok loved your entire journey with this movie but I had to add extra love for your Peridot plush with and ace cat pin!
