For anyone confused, flip the diagram (by his head) upside down. This helped me.

OMG!!! You gave me such a big AHA Moment as you explained that the order of the Scales is just a way to learn the Collection of Notes to then improvise and Mess arounf with it.
I never really got this Point. Thanks a lot.

He's showing the diagram the same way as it appears in tab notations. The top E aka the high pitched E string (the thin one) is shown as the topper most black horizontal line with a number 1 next to it on the right hand side of the diagram. The Left side with a row of red dots indicates that you play the open unpressed strings. The first vertical black line on the left indicates the nut itself (that small bridge like thing at the top of the guitar's neck nearest the tuning pegs and furthest end away from the guitar's body, that the strings rest on), aka for tabulation purposes as the zero fret. The second vertical black line from the left is the first fret, the third vertical black line the second fret and so on. You count up from zero at the nut. There 12 semitone notes for instance on the E strings :- one per fret starting with the open string
    (E,F,F#,G,G#,A,A#,B,C,C#,D,D#)
from the bassiest note of the plucked open string to the same string fretted aka pressed down on at the point just above the eleventh fret (the one before the twelfth fret .The twelfth fret usually has two dots marked above it, that's the half way point between the nut and the bridge that the strings rest upon at the body end, there you reach E again but at an octave that is to say eight Whole notes higher) there's usually two dots to show where it is except on classical guitars.
    Pythagoras time...💩

Cheers for the Video clip! Forgive me for butting in, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you thought about - Rozardner Guitar Professionalism Reality (just google it)? It is a great exclusive product for easy guitar learning system for adults without the normal expense. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my cooworker after many years got amazing results with it.

I would suggest you flip your scale graph so the right side is nut side of your guitar then they match as it is now its a mirror and hard to follow.

Andy, just want to say, when you say (2nd) position, you are referring to the first scale position. But it can be confusing because there are 5 positions in minor pentatonic scales....so you could refer to (maybe) the (B) position for your fingers rather than 2nd position to play the 1st. position in E Minor Pentatonic Scales...
Maybe I was the only one that had to work to figure that out....but I am learning thanks to you....Frank

    Hi
I've just been viewing the lesson on basic scales. I'm a beginner just starting out on playing basic scales and wondered if you could give me some tips from your experience as to how I can work towards perfecting the following:
    - my finger stretch across four frets - getting my fingers to comfortably stretch/span the four frets
    - coordinating picking with fretting - hitting the string that is being fretted
I appreciate practice, practice ........practice is key, but would welcome any tips and advice you could give me based on your playing and learning journey.
    Take care Rick
