I am 75. I played in a band in the sixties, but i sold my guitar about 30 years ago. I suprised myself in this january a new guitar, and began to learn and play again. This video and this guy is phantastic. It is easy to understand and play together. Welcome all guitarist in my age, and the younger and older too.

I played lead guitar in a cover band in the 1960s but quit playing (Army, college, career) except for strumming an acoustic from time to time. I retired in 2017 (I'll turn 76 in May), bought a Telecaster, and am enjoying playing again.

I have been stuck for 25 years until I watched this video. I mean, I threw on a backing blues track in A-minor and can all of a sudden play a simple lead improvisation. I'm kind of blown away.

Then I look at advanced sheet music and the number of symbols etc. just overwhelm me. I'm only about 6 mos into it, playing simple sheet music, and now chords sheet music. My son tells me (he plays) that I should start learning the pentatonic scale. Your thoughts will be appreciated.
I have been picking for around 40 years and this is the most common sense, understandable approach to the Pentatonic scale I have seen. Outstanding! Enjoyed the video and will practice even harder now. ( and may even understand what I'm doing)

This is probably the most practical out of the box way of doing pentatonic scale leads. Knowing the 5 boxes is great, but too many people kinda find a box and stay in it. Even as simple as this shape is, it sounds more interesting because of the movement up the neck. Well done. Great advice for newer players or those who haven't dabbled a ton in pentatonic scales before.

I`m a singer who had to learn chords on guitar to be able to perform solo. I have no understanding of scales and if I try to play more than 4 lead guitar notes I mess up. I would like to be able to throw in some fancy licks with the chords to add magic to my performances but don`t understand how. Not giving up yet though.

I usually don't write comments but this time I have to. My teacher introduced me to pentatonic almost 2 years ago. I was trying to figure out soloing till that time and how to use pentatonic. I was trying many ways of how to understand the pentatonic scale. But this blow my mind. The idea of smaller boxes in different positions. It's so obvious, but no one was able to put it this way. This isn't the only video showing how to get you from the bottom to the top of the neck with pentatonic scales/shapes, but this explains it in a MUCH more intuitive, stripped-down way, which makes the whole idea waaay easier to grasp and understand. Great stuff, keep it coming!
i've been using this shape for about 3 years and I can easily solo the whole fretboard and i can change scales so easily to outline the chord i'm playing over. this is the first video i've seen someone talking about it, I thought I was the only one using it. i'm blown away at how complicated of a system most people use to try to understand the guitar, this one is so simple, you deservedly got over a million views because this is the real stuff, all the "pentatonic positions" is such nonsense, this is how simple it should be because this is how simple it is

I can’t thank you enough for this video. I’ve been playing for about a year and have really plateaued over the last six months. I’ve found myself playing the same chords and the basics but unable to progress because I find all of these scales so confusing as a beginner. But this video explained it all so clearly. I have been practicing with this method for the last 3 nights and have made more progress in the last 3 days than I have in the past 6 months. You need Brian at Zombie Guitar. Amazing teacher. Did you learn all 5 shapes and how to connect them? You should. Then learn all the notes names on the fretboard at a glance. Awesomeness thank you for all you teach us man! I’m mainly just a rhythm guitar player, I taught myself by ear, know how to read tabs if need be, but never really sat down to learn to solo too much. This simple teaching by you helps a bunch!
This was the way I was shown to play lead from the start, it was always the half step notes that frustrated me though, but with a lot of practice (especially if your not exactly pitch perfect naturally, as I'm not ) you start to understand and hear where to play them. I'm surprised no one has explained it like this before, I think you've helped a lot of people start being more comfortable with creating a simple melodic solo, rather than just playing fast and hoping no one notices they're not really playing anything, if you know what I mean. Wish I'd have posted this one years ago, I just didn't think it was a "proper " technique, looks like I should've though, there's no really wrong way to play if it works 😀

This was the first scale pattern I had "discovered". I called it my 2-3 pattern and at 16, without any music theory knowledge, it got me into rock bands playing minor concerts, parties, jam sessions. Imagine my disappointment upon realizing it was simply the pentatonic scale 🤣 I thought I had discovered something monumental 😱
This is the most useful and powerful lesson to teach not only the scale fingering and the box positions... But also HOW to emote when soloing and training your ear to stay in key and on time of the beat and melody rhythm track in the background. This lets you ascend and descend the scalular ladder while practicing your slurs pull off and hammer on techniques and slides, bends, trills whatever. Genius video lesson for any player level to attain better phrases and cleaner more intuitive finger patterns. Join up with normal pentatonic scale patterns or minor scales for building tension with triplets climbing or descending the scale ... Arpeggios for flair, and yes finger tapping for more technical prowess. It's the walk before you shred 😉 method. Love it man.

This is my kind of tutorial. Simple, effective, no silly fret acrobatics to muck up the lesson and most importantly, a teacher who isn't a guitar snob. Kudos🙌. I plan on watching and digesting more simple, to the point lessons. Lord knows, I hate learning scales. This makes it less painful and boring to learn.
i wish i could of started this lesson the first time i ever picked up a guitar more than 45 years ago, unfortunately my progress has been generally various levels of mediocrity, with this you are learning relationships and notes across the entire fretboard and initially bypassing all the pain and frustration of starting with chord sequences or whatever else, thanks so much, i guess in a way i need to find easier ways to play as opposed to the idea that playing well means complicated. If you are 15 and starting out, i'd recommend this lesson, an hour a day, you'll know the fretboard and relate to chords and everything else so much quicker and best of all you'll be playing some impressive enjoyable sounds in no time

I`m a singer who had to learn chords on guitar to be able to perform solo. I have no understanding of scales and if I try to play more than 4 lead guitar notes I mess up. I would like to be able to throw in some fancy licks with the chords to add magic to my performances but don`t understand how. Not giving up yet though.

This is a great stuff. Many legendary players used no more than this. It makes for focused, creative, melodic solos the audience can understand.
I usually don't write comments but this time I have to. My teacher introduced me to pentatonic almost 2 years ago. I was trying to figure out soloing till that time and how to use pentatonic. I was trying many ways of how to understand the pentatonic scale. But this blow my mind. The idea of smaller boxes in different positions. It's so obvious, but no one was able to put it this way. I feel like I finally get it. Thank you so so much for this video. This was one of those ''aha moments''.

This isn't the only video showing how to get you from the bottom to the top of the neck with pentatonic scales/shapes, but this explains it in a MUCH more intuitive, stripped-down way, which makes the whole idea waaay easier to grasp and understand. Great stuff, keep it coming!
i've been using this shape for about 3 years and I can easily solo the whole fretboard and i can change scales so easily to outline the chord i'm playing over. this is the first video i've seen someone talking about it, I thought I was the only one using it. i'm blown away at how complicated of a system most people use to try to understand the guitar, this one is so simple, you deservedly got over a million views because this is the real stuff, all the "pentatonic positions" is such nonsense, this is how simple it should be because this is how simple it is

I can’t thank you enough for this video. I’ve been playing for about a year and have really plateaued over the last six months. I’ve found myself playing the same chords and the basics but unable to progress because I find all of these scales so confusing as a beginner. But this video explained it all so clearly. I have been practicing with this method for the last 3 nights and have made more progress in the last 3 days than I have in the past 6 months. You are a great teacher - please continue making more of these videos.
You need Brian at Zombie Guitar. Amazing teacher. Did you learn all 5 shapes and how to connect them? You should. Then learn all the notes names on the fretboard at a glance. FYI, I just ran up the Watchman Trail at Zion- amazing run. Did Angles Landing too. Ran my fastest mile last week. It's cool since I am getting old! 🤭

This was the way I was shown to play lead from the start, it was always the half step notes that frustrated me though, but with a lot of practice (especially if your not exactly pitch perfect naturally, as I'm not ) you start to understand and hear where to play them.
I'm surprised no one has explained it like this before, I think you've helped a lot of people start being more comfortable with creating a simple melodic solo, rather than just playing fast and hoping no one notices they're not really playing anything, if you know what I mean.
Wish I'd have posted this one years ago, I just didn't think it was a "proper " technique, looks like I should've though, there's no really wrong way to play if it works 😀

Been playing guitar for 18 years since I was 7 yesrs old, never learned to ready music just watched videos when I could. You my friend have made the quickest most effective brilliant video in less than 10 minutes
This was the first scale pattern I had "discovered". I called it my 2-3 pattern and at 16, without any music theory knowledge, it got me into rock bands playing minor concerts, parties, jam sessions. Imagine my disappointment upon realizing it was simply the pentatonic scale 🤣 I thought I had discovered something monumental 😱

This is the most useful and powerful lesson to teach not only the scale fingering and the box positions... But also HOW to emote when soloing and training your ear to stay in key and on time of the beat and melody rhythm track in the background. This lets you ascend and descend the scalular ladder while practicing your slurs pull off and hammer on techniques and slides, bends, trills whatever.
Genius video lesson for any player level to attain better phrases and cleaner more intuitive finger patterns.
Join up with normal pentatonic scale patterns or minor scales for building tension with triplets climbing or descending the scale ... Arpeggios for flair, and yes finger tapping for more technical prowess.
It's the walk before you shred 😉 method. Love it man.

i wish i could of started this lesson the first time i ever picked up a guitar more than 45 years ago, unfortunately my progress has been generally various levels of mediocrity, with this you are learning relationships and notes across the entire fretboard and initially bypassing all the pain and frustration of starting with chord sequences or whatever else, thanks so much, i guess in a way i need to find easier ways to play as opposed to the idea that playing well means complicated. If you are 15 and starting out, i'd recommend this lesson, an hour a day, you'll know the fretboard and relate to chords and everything else so much quicker and best of all you'll be playing some impressive enjoyable sounds in no time
