I was raised in GA making these pretty basic like you did. Our meal was always the same...salmon patties, white milk gravy, fried squash, cole slaw and cornbread. Best meal ever, had the ole taste buds doing a dance.
🙋♀️ Hey Mrs Tallie Faye! I came across your videos about a week ago, so I have been watching some of your old posts! Great stuff! I'm a 59 yr old Texan living in Louisiana, I miss home and watching your videos helps me feel still connected to home...I have been taking notes and saving your recipes! Growing up my mama made Salmon Patties. I do remember she mashed up everything before she made the patties (and she put an egg in it too). I thought mashing it up was weird then, but as an adult I understand it. Anyway, I always ate mine with Ketchup but mama likes hers with that Brer Rabbit Syrup. She has quite the sweet tooth, like her daddy did. I'm going to have to fix some soon, these look delicious. I love them crunchy too! 😋
My Mom made these like your mother, bones and all which as an eight year old I was not especially fond of. Mom passed at 90 in 2012 and if she were here today I would thank her for all she did raising me and stretching Dad's hard earned dollars with meals like this.
I'd have never thought to make them like this. I'm lacking in the patience department but I persevered and what a delectable delight! After many decades of making salmon patties, this will be the only way I'll make them from here on out! Yup, that crunch!
Hi Miss Talli, Tracey from San Antonio here. Love your videos and your cooking style! Wanted to say I'm with you about cleaning my salmon. I clean out the skin and bones before I make mine up just like you. Stay blessed. Love you 💜💜
Yay SALMON PATTIES! My boyfriend makes such delicious salmon patties that I asked him to make them for my birthday one year. Can't wait to see how you make yours!
My momma used to make the mackerel version also, she called them mackerel cakes. She didn’t clean them but roughly broke apart, added some spices, diced onion and eggs (one egg per can used) . Then dredge them with flour and fry golden and crusty. To this day (I’m 67 now) I will still make up a batch for dinner when the craving hits (which is fairly often) 😂
Love salmon patties. My mom used to fix them all the time... the canned salmon but she used everything in the can. Good stuff for sure. Loving your channel and have been binge watching. 😂👍😁💛
Tali my mother didn’t clean her salmon either. She added egg, crackers, green onions and salt and pepper. She barely broke up the meat so it wasn’t mushy fish patties. She’d fry them up to a crunchy perfection. ❤I clean mine just like you. I do follow my mother’s recipe because I do not like my patties mushy. ❤ Yours look delicious.
As a kid I always liked those bones for some reason. They were so soft. But, I love a good crunch - on my fried chicken, chicken fried steak and I know I'm gonna love the crunchiness on these salmon paddies. Thank you Talli for a new way to enjoy my old favorite!! ❤
I’m SO HAPPY to see you again!! I’ve not found you for MONTHS!! I absolutely love your videos 💕🙏🙏. I like my salmon patties with finely chopped green onions. Served with mashed potatoes and white pepper gravy with peas YUMMY ❤️
I clean my salmon too. My mom didn’t, but the first time I opened a can I thought nope, that needs cleaning. I make mine like my husband told me his mom made them. She held them together with mashed potatoes. I thought they were sort of bland, so I add Old Bay Seasoning. I also use planko to coat them. good and crunchy. My husband ate them with ketchup. I just eat ‘em.
I watched this particular recipe video of yours Talli because I wanted to see how you got your patties to hold together which is a problem I've always had. I didn't realize you put flour in with them which I'm going to try next time but I have to disagree with you on a couple things. Although I do remove most of the skin I find that nasty for various reasons, I don't take out most of the bones because it's extra added calcium. The only bones I remove is like the little cartilage bones. Also I like other things in my salmon patty such as diced onions and sometimes even a little bit of diced celery and a little garlic powder so my patties have a little bit more to them but thank you so much for giving me the way to make them stick together because I've tried egg and bread crumbs and cornmeal and they still fall apart so maybe the flour will work better.
First time i've seen them made with just flour and salt and no onion or eggs. The last time i made them i got lazy and used tuna so i wouldn't have to pick out the bones or skin. You made me reminisce when you brought up syrup. When i would go to my grandparents house we would have the patties with smothered potato homemade biscuits with syrup. Let the good times roll.
Talli Faye. I'm with you, the skin and bones in the salmon has to go. My Mama never took it out but I do. My family has always loved salmon patties. It was an easy meal I could fix after a day at work. I really enjoy your channel.
Hey Tallie Faye mom didn’t clean the skin and bones either but I’m with you they have to go. I make mine different from you. I add onion flour egg and lemon juice. So very good. Love them.
I’ve got my cans of salmon, & other ingredients like bread crumbs, eggs, & flour (just in case), planning on making salmon Pattie’s sometime in the next few days. But TODAY is all about my Moms round steak, rice & gravy… Here’s to you Mom. 😅
Im with you miss Tillie, i take that black skin and bones off of mine to, I dont like that fishy taste, and i like them crispy. Your makeing me hungry love your videos ❤ 😊😊😊😊
Miss Talli I have to disagree just this once on the salmon patties. You drained away all the flavor through that strainer AND threw away the precious calcium bones. I use the entire can of everything, some dill, Frank's hot sauce, a beaten egg, a good splash Worcestershire, and just enough bread crumbs to bind-so no flour taste and not dry. Fry as is using big scoop for patties, press tops a little with fork when frying, no outside breading-they do brown up and are moist. We love this inexpensive delish meal with fried potatoes/onions, and cream style corn. Grainy mustard for dipping. I could eat it every day. I wish you'd try my recipe just once. Splatter screen!!!
I can't stand the skin,it grosses me out so l have to clean it up,or l cant eat it,that dark part l scrape off too,as it's strong and fishy tasting, but l love it ,once cleaned up,or now, l buy the boneless ,skinless ,it's more expensive for less salmon, but once l clean all the trashy stuff out,you don't get as much as you started with for sure, and it saves wear and tear on by back standing there picking all that stuff out that l won't eat.
I do put an egg in as a binder and a small amount of flour or cornmeal mix,and l add some Old Bay seafood seasoning, and a spritz of fresh lemon juice,l love it with Old Bay.l do love them crispy.
Yes u r right its all about the person that is how u like them I just love your recipes and videos its like beef liver and onions I was raised up. On potatoes 🥔 sandwichs white bread potatoes sandwichs maybe u can do a video on beef liver and onions 😂❤😂❤
